    Just got my Bucktool 4x36 sander out of the box last night and needed to get the general unboxing/set-up on it. Thanks for the objective review.

      It is a nice little tool and we still use it today. Not sure you can get them any longer though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Direct drive makes sense. Maybe you can get different belts. Keep on trucking. Thanks. Tony

      Thanks Tony, and yeah... I have to look into different belts. I also want to get a 200+ grit. Right now I have 80 grit and 150 grit. Thanks for watching and all the support!

    I looked to see if there was a follow up video and couldn't find one. was just curious if you was still happy with this sander. Looking to buy one. Good video by the way.

      X OIL .... Still have it and still working. Haven’t much time to do too many follow up videos of late. Maybe this winter if and when things slow down a bit.

    Really glad I found this vid! Looking to buy a good disc sander and I was intrigued by the direct drive connection to the belt and disc. Its quite a bit pricier than the "others" so wondering if its worth it? Just wondering how's your impression now (pros and cons) that you've had this for four years. ;) Still recommend it?

      Still have it. Works great. I’ve upgraded to a JET drum sander but still use the Bucktool once in awhile

    Do you recommend the bucktool 2" x 42" model for knifes and swords? I loved your review on this one and wondered if the HP difference was a big deal (3/4 vs 1/3) when sharpening. Seems affordable for a new blacksmith like myself since ya know, the budget breaks the higher quality you go!

      just one bite .... Although a good unit, I wouldn’t make a knife or sword on it. I’ve seen a video where a fella made a knife on it but the steel and quality wasn’t at what I would say is a good knife to seek to someone. I’d recommend build a grinder like I did when I started. There are online plans to guide you through making one. It would last longer and be of better quality to get into making knives, even as a hobbyist.

    You're such a genius! ;) Hey, with the proper belt, do you think it would work well to surface grind knife metal? Say I wanted to put a flat grind on a blade. I realize should use something more akin to a proper knife grinder, but... I don' t do it for a living and want a little more surface area than my WorkSharp and the KO knife grinder attachment. What would you recommend as a belt for it?

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  6 років тому +1

      TSG ... well, when I sharpened knives in the past I started at 120 then 220, then 400, then 600. After that I used a ceramic rod and Leather to home and strop. This was before my Wicked Edge. I’d say, if you know a knife guy, maybe he’d sharpen some of your blades. Otherwise, I still use a Chef’s Choice electric sharpener. The white body one you can get from Amazon, Cabelas, etc... As for using this for blade though? Not sure it’s stable enough. I think it has too much vibration to give a good edge.

    Looks like a better machine. Time will tell. Is the table for the disk able to be ate at an angle so if you want to do angled glue-ups (bolster and scale)?

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  6 років тому +1

      The table can be mounted to the 6" round or the 4x36 belt. And yes, it can be angled. So far so good! ;)

    CK Knife....Are you getting plenty of power from that motor...how does it work when you put some pressure against the belt as you are sanding ?

    • @CKKnifeandTool
      @CKKnifeandTool  5 років тому +2

      marbleman52 .... I am getting good power. The WEN would stop under light pressure but this Bucktool has been doing quite well. I just finished processing 29 blocks of stabilized wood. That equaled around 50+ individual knife scales. Those and the other 90 so scales and I’m pleased with the Bucktool. I’d look into belts other than on Amazon though. Maybe Combat Abrasives. Thanks for watching!

    already watched 3 reviews of this sander and none of the reviewers have mentioned how much it costs. Seems like an important detail. I know you included the Amazon link, but it's sold out everywhere and they don't show pricing for sold out items. So please let me know about how much it costs, thanks!

      The video is over a year and a half old so no, I can’t give you the price. They may have stopped making. 🤷🏻‍♂️

      @@CKKnifeandTool I followed up them directly (thanks to you providing their email address). They said they'll have them available again next week at around $190-$200.

      Joseph Gonzales, I just bought the Bucktool sander for $219 on Amazon. The one I bought has an 8" disc instead of a 6" disc but I believe the motor is the same and mine uses the same 4"×36" belt setup.

    You have my sub for this vid alone. I've read in the comments below that you seem to still be happy with the sander. That's great news unless it's changed since your last comment. Have you found a particular set of belts your happy with for this unit yet? The Bucktool is a little over double what the harbor freight unit is but seems like it's at least 100 times better so worth the price. Also do you think the extra $40 for the BD4801 with the 8" disc and the work table for the belt side is beneficial and worth the price. I'm looking at getting into making my own resin stabilized scales and pen blanks for a personal hobby. Being a hobby and personal use I don't really want to go in on heavy duty equipment.
    Thanks for this review and any answers you may have, it's been quite helpful.

      I think it is a great tool to have. It's rather heavy and quite stable. My son uses it quite a bit and I do still have it. We don't use the disk sander option as much as the belt though. As for belts? Other than Amazon, you can check Phoenix Abrasives or Combat Abrasives websites for options.

      @@CKKnifeandTool Great, I will be grabbing on this pay period then. I will probably mold the belt shroud right away so I can rework the ill placed dust collection nozzle which between that and time in swapping belts seem to be the only real complaints. I don't see a way to make it easier to swap belts but relocating the dust collector should be pretty easy. Then I'll be on to finding a good quality inexpensive compact band saw. Right now I'm just using a table saw to square up and split scale blanks. It works but isn't ideal.

    I took the shroud off trashed it. It just takes up sanding space & is useless anyway.

    "We got a power cord here.." Seriously? You screw the sander tho the workbench and throw the dust shroud and belt table support leg away. And you didn't even turn it on til 6:00.
