World War Navy Veteran Buford Plemmons served as an officer aboard a Landing Ship Tank (LST). In this clip from his full interview, he tells of a time while off the coast of Iwo Jima during the invasion. In the trip to the island, he became friends with a Marine officer. Buford tells of the awful circumstances surrounding that Marine officer trying off-load his DUKW from the ship and it taking water and sinking. Buford watched helplessly and in horror as to what then transpired.
