Daigo is just super awesome. I don't know any word to describe him better than this. He's so kind for sharing all of his thought and tactic, not scared of doing so. So much thought behind all of the match. Result in 10-2. AMAZING.
"I hope everybody find this useful when fighting against opponent with strong low attacks. When your opponent crouches, you crouch at the same time." Easily one of the best tip I've heard.
Daigo is the best. Showing once again...a winner is not whom always wins, but the one who learns from his defeats and reaches higher levels. When infiltration destroyed him on 2012 and then eliminated him from EVO 2013 , I thought he was done as a player... I'm glad to be soooo wrong.
This is deep. Finally someone explaining the advantages that certain characters have over others and not just saying the matchup is 7-3. I use to wonder what players would analyze to determine which characters were high or low tier.
This is amazing. Thank you Air for translating this, I'm sure it wasn't easy! Amazing to get an insight into the thought process of one of the best. Inspiring for all FG players.
Great effort for bringing this interview with subtitles! Very interesting to hear how a player such as Daigo approaches the the game. Have to say though Japanese sure like to beat around the bush, instead of being direct :p
This is the best Street Fighter video. Every aspect of play described. Approach: research to discover an advantage, a strategy that exploits it, the tactics that support that strategy, and the skills I need to make the tactics work. Strategy: use Shakunetsu, Ultra and life total-based damage advantage to win. Tactics: Advance, jump forward and use air-to-air to keep meter-building fireballs safe and to stay out of the corner to maximize the ground-game advantage. Execution/skills to develop: jump from the perfect distance as defined by tactics. Be able to crouch when he crouches. Beautiful. Whole problem-solving model applies to life in general. Now all that stands between you and victory is hours of practice, a little luck... and whatever your opponent has thought of that you haven't. Which, in this case, wasn't a problem. :)
whatshendrix In japan saying that often is a polite way to say _I'm listen_, in japan people are much more polite even exist a entire grammar for politeness talking desu!.
EliosMoonElios My bad then. I didn't realize it was embedded in their conversation etiquette. I still find it distracting, but I guess that's just their way of relating to each other.
LMAO 2 minutes in, interviewer nicely introduces Daigo's book, perfect plug for Daigo, which didn't even take the time to promote, but when back to what he was saying about the match up LOL
I know the subs were getting the gists but i like the way he mentions basics stuff but in some deep manner. only daigo could apply those advanced thought processes into a match. very nice
I think a lot of people will take this information away but will find themselves struggling to get the balance right. Don't forget, the reason why Daigo can afford to analyze a match in real-time with such depth, is because his Ryu is 100% under his control, meaning there is a lot less of his focus aimed at the character itself.
daigo knew at what distance akuma could focus through ryu's fireball and hit him and kept his ryu dancing at that range and threw fireballs just beyond that range. that way he could bait infiltration to fa thru his fireball and whiff punish. that way he could limit infiltration's options in approaching his ryu on the ground and he could concentrate on catching infiltration when he tries to jump in. daigo also changed his fb game and avoided being predictable. infiltration read daigo almost perfectly at evo 2012.
Thanks for the translation AIR. I hope his new gameplay style isn't implemented until after EVO'14 we need to see Daigo in another SF4 Grand Final. Curious to see what style of play it is though...
This is why Street Fighter is literally one of the best games around, regardless of genre. The amount of forethought that can be implemented to circumvent difficult or seemingly impossible situations can actually pay off. The game has a depth and presence not really seen elsewhere. I don't stick with games for long, but with Street Fighter I've been playing it since it started. It never grows old, and it always feels good. Love gaming. Love Capcom. Absolutely love Street Fighter.
It has depth without a doubt. However, there are many games of different genres which give the same depth and reward for thought and good play. Starcrat and DotA are a couple of examples. If you've got the bug, check out some other titles, there's a lot of fun to be had with games on that level. Good luck!
FilthEverywhere When I typed that post, one other genre I was going to mention was RTS games. I just happened to not bother, but I agree with what you said.
This is about the best translation job that you will find for this interview, the subtitles aren't 100% accurate but they cover the gist of what is being said. They aren't exactly speaking in simple/easy japanese, lots of weird terms and analogies being thrown around.
Well one big thing that's wrong enough for me to get really bothered, is that when they talk about the Akuma Ryu ground matchup, it keeps saying Akuma has faster pokes, when he is actually talking about Akuma's faster walking speed (compared to Ryu).
Daigo was exploiting that Akuma cannot get through EX Fireballs; with focus, ultra or any move except jumping in. Then the 'Red Focus' thing in USF4 will be a nightmare for him. xD
***** I see it mostly as being a godlike anti - air, a way for characters to deal with divekicks and leave themselves in a decent position after an empty jump.
I see it as giving every character gouken's ex parry. absorb some hits and get a crumple. I wish they make a good decision after their testing locations.
He's so fucking long winded. Is this a trait in japanese language or what? His lecture put me to sleep but I got the jist of how he approaches matches. Start from the basics. I love how he totally neutralized infiltrations vortex by walking forward and low jabs, simple and genius, he made the matchup look unfair in ryus favor.
So interesting they talking, like the world is gonna end because a big asteroid is gonna hit the earth and daigo telling really serious, we ned to put bomb on the asteroid like movie armaggedon hahaha. These japanese people so interesting.
I cant stop laughing at the interviewers constant duhr duhr slobbering sounds... its really distracting. Many thanks for putting this together though... lol im sorry
Sometimes he sounds like game is a science... like it's a really serious topic... I love games but, even if I would able to make money with games, I would not take it like a science... but ok, there's people for everything...
fozymilograno it isn't just a game when things get as big as this, do you see football, world cup, NBA as game? yes if you play like 2 hours a month, no if you are professional, in a competitive league and your life grow with it, esport is exactly like this, It is both an art and science, it was like this for a long time, keep up with the speed!
There's a science to many things. There is definitely a science to playing games at the level that people like him play. Knowing the technical data of the game (damage scaling, frame data etc) is a REAL thing that players use to gain advantage, in addition to psychological interpretation and manipulation. That, in tandem with supreme hand/eye coordination and there's much more to playing on their level than meets the eye, but it's what they do day in and out so it looks a lot simpler than it actually is. Again, I'm ONLY referring to playing on the level that people like Daigo play on. No different than sports, but obviously on a MUCH less physical scale. The same coordination and focus can be said of games like Pool, whereas on the psychological side, that's more at its height in games like Poker. To people like you and I, the casual gamers, it's a game and nothing more. To these guys, they have to take a different approach. That's why they take it that serious, because they ARE getting money. As for pTruong's comment...the science and tech of the game stays the same. That's unchanging. Clearly nothing is guaranteed, especially when you're talking about something being controlled by a man, whose calculations are never 100% spot-on 100% of the time. There's a science to the game, but an art to how you manipulate it. Simply put, 2D fighting games are really just a colorful fancy way of playing chess. the mental mechanics aren't very different.
Daigo is just super awesome. I don't know any word to describe him better than this. He's so kind for sharing all of his thought and tactic, not scared of doing so.

Agreed. I've been playing SF4 since vanilla and never really gave this much thought. Crouching here I come!
Is this really possible online? I never thought of that cause my mind is like "what he is going to do next" all the time.
Wtf! That’s awesome! How tf would I have figured this out on my own 🤯
Lets all share and give air a big thumbs up ! great job man !
i got the shaft
This guy is something else. He´s a mastermind.
Daigo is the best. Showing once again...a winner is not whom always wins, but the one who learns from his defeats and reaches higher levels.

thank you for taking the time to do this, we appreciate it!
Air you're fucking awesome. It must be a pain to do these translations. Very much appreciated.
Daigo works hard like many Street fighter players, you can really see it in his eyes in this interview, don't think he has had any sleep for some time
This is why he is the greatest Street Fighter player ever.
Great effort for bringing this interview with subtitles! Very interesting to hear how a player such as Daigo approaches the the game. Have to say though Japanese sure like to beat around the bush, instead of being direct :p
no thats probably just daigo.
thanks for translating really wanted to see
Incredible strategy wow!!! This guy is truly legendary! Props to Infiltration as well, absolutely brilliant players!

Air, what about translate the Daigo Book?
He's too polite and respectful to just admit "I am smarter and I have the best reactions in the FGC"
What's an interesting thing in his theory is that he has to perfectly block Akuma's move on wake up in order to make it work. That sounds the hardest.
megalopolis4 For you of course. For daigo... well... Its easy
Awesome Air it's great to see Daigo's deep technical talk of the game, which is something he talks about a lot here.
20:55: Announcer tries to lower the volume, but R's hype cannot be lowered
Daigo at 23:30 was like, "Don't do this shit right here, DON'T do what I did" xD
Daigo seems like a cool guy to go drinking with.
Then play SSFIV: AE drunk x3
"Hiy. Ehhh. Hiy. Ehhhhh. Hiy. Ehhhh. Hiy. Ehhhh."
*Hai
lol, its kind of like saying "yes" or "i see" in english.
Squarion Except nobody says it that often under any circumstances, especially not while someone else is talking.
whatshendrix

Thank you Daigo for being the best Ryu player of the world!
lol at the volume adjustment for the commentator when he yells
Awesome work Air! Thanks a lot.
Thank you Air for translating this!
LMAO
2 minutes in, interviewer nicely introduces Daigo's book, perfect plug for Daigo, which didn't even take the time to promote, but when back to what he was saying about the match up LOL
Thanks Air and Daigo, ryu legends
HELL YEAH THANK YOU AIR, YOU'RE THE BEST!
Daigo is a mastermind of fighting games, he could be treating cancer, but he is doing this instead, not sure which is the best gain.
I miss your SF4-Ryu Air. I was looking for different Roos to learn from. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with Mike Ross in that 1 hour tutorial.
I know the subs were getting the gists but i like the way he mentions basics stuff but in some deep manner. only daigo could apply those advanced thought processes into a match. very nice
Thanks for translation.
His mindset and view is so different, it's crazy. Definitely a legendary fighting game player
Thanks air!!!!!!! I have been seeing tokido post these videos!!
you did amazing Air...so good...
I think a lot of people will take this information away but will find themselves struggling to get the balance right. WISDOM UPON WISDOM ALL HAIL DAIGO ALL HAIL THE STREET FIGHTER GOD
I'm glad I understand nihingo cause reading the subtitles would kill me. my romanji is awful. Domo
thx for thetranslation!!!
Thank you!
Thank you Air
thank you Air!!
Wow, Daigo has a book out! Nice!!
thanks for the translation!

He is surprisingly buff. I thought he was a toothpick stick, but you can see he's worked out quite a bit.
awesome, tyvm
Good job Air
thanks!
Thanks for the translation AIR. I hope his new gameplay style isn't implemented until after EVO'14 we need to see Daigo in another SF4 Grand Final. Curious to see what style of play it is though...
you are awesome, Air :))
hai... hai... hmmm.... hai... hai... eeeeeh.... hai... hmmmm....
The interviewer is so intense loool
The man's a living Legend...great tips! Annoying interviewer, lol.
I'm not really sure how to define Daigo. The closest thing that comes to mind is a Rubics Cube.
I had to download this because it was gone for a while

This man is a fcking legend!
im sure this guy is now a millionaire.God of All time
thanks a lot.
The GOD has spoken
ty air
After watching this, i can only say that Daigo is the reincarnation of Mr Miyagi
Daigo is a solid dude… I wish him the best
This interviewer might be running one off to the Beast's greatness
i asking me if Daigo would starting playing BB what char would he choose
"ehhhh...hai...ehhh" giving me asmr tinglies :3
this guy is a crazy strategist. not a beast.
hai ehh haihai ehh haihai wtf
By the way, this is going to be similar to the conversation we had previously.
I'm a ryu player myself and I never know what to do against Akuma
Focus attack is like juggernaut in marvel super heroes lol
are the subtitles accurate?
This is about the best translation job that you will find for this interview, the subtitles aren't 100% accurate but they cover the gist of what is being said. They aren't exactly speaking in simple/easy japanese, lots of weird terms and analogies being thrown around.
Xuvial Sylvester gotcha. thanks!

i wish someone could translate all comments below into japanese and send it to him, he would probably be very happy =)
yea...hes really good
What’s the name of his book?
his best matches were against either momochi, mago, filipino champ's dhalsim, itabashi zangief , well mainly asian people lol
👍🏻
I really tried to understand it, but without a good amount of demonstrations of what he is teaching, it gets very hard to grasp his explanation.
i got the beast signature on the 25th anniversary.. i can die happy now.
Have Daigo ever played infiltration with yun?
when i see the eng sub in the comments . iclick and subs immediately.i think thats what everybody did.:) tnks air.
Is Tokido interviewing him?
Daigo was exploiting that Akuma cannot get through EX Fireballs; with focus, ultra or any move except jumping in. Then the 'Red Focus' thing in USF4 will be a nightmare for him. xD

Nice intreview, but thouse hai, eeeee, hmmmm....=)
...the only thing I can think of right now is how ugly his shirt is...man...
They should dumb it down and only have one attack button...
He's so fucking long winded. Is this a trait in japanese language or what? His lecture put me to sleep but I got the jist of how he approaches matches. Start from the basics. 28:29 daigo fart
For fucks sake the interviewer doing random "eeeh" "haihahia" "eeeh" sounds is so annoying D:
Great video air btw!
You are ignorant. If you're Japanese, it's because the act is absolutely necessary.
You have insulted the Japanese.
shijou takane Why is it absolutely necessary?
It's a japanese thing Na5k1
Sean Carrington
excessively saying random Ehs, and uhms and ahems during interviews in english is annoying too
Accidental comment..
Hai! eeeeeehh.... hai... ehhhhh
lol 19:45 diago being sexually assaulted
So interesting they talking, like the world is gonna end because a big asteroid is gonna hit the earth and daigo telling really serious, we ned to put bomb on the asteroid like movie armaggedon hahaha. These japanese people so interesting.

jeez he likes to talk alot...
