- The backbone of any restaurant are the systems and procedures that are set up. Without them, no one knows what to do and nothing is consistent.
My motto is Manage Systems, Develop People but how exactly do you start doing that?
First, you have to realize that management and leadership are two completely different things. You also have to change the way you think about systems. It’s not this big hairy monster in the corner, it’s what’s going to allow your team to do their jobs effectively.
Watch the video to see exactly how to start building your restaurant systems.

What is the one thing that bugs you the most in your restaurant that really needs a system attached to it?
What if not a single other person in your team understands the value of systematizing things? (And they think you bringing it up is a way to distract them.)

Saving money, saving time or getting faster isn't the goal.
Creating structure /systems is the goal. That is how you/things get better.
An astute observation! Of course saving money, time and being more efficient are natural byproducts of creating systems. Not many people are ever going to say that they're true goal is to have a bunch of systems - what they really want at the end of the day is what it gets them by having them in place. -Dawn, Team TRB
