Anyone who played it would know it was way more fun than any other shooter or physics games around. I really don't think any game has managed to top it.

Wow, someone else played PSI-OPS. I loved this game with a white-hot passion, bordering unholy. I like that this video had a telekinesis/physics focus but let's not forget the sweet telepathy powers. The pyrokinesis and astral projection stuff wasn't as deep but using everything in conjunction was an absolute joy. PSI-OPS needs a sequel. I don't exactly recall the story but there was some sort of cliffhanger about psychics deriving their powers from the moon.

Well-put. PK and AP were clearly secondary skills to TK and MC (the obvious main attractions), but they still rounded out your skillset nicely and were occasionally useful or could be used in silly ways. Thanks for the comment! -Nick

Midway went out of business, but also they lost an infringement law suit involving the games story so they also lost rights to anyone making any sequel. if they're was a "sequel" it wouldn't be allowed to have same name characters or plot. But it would be awesome to have that sequel where Nick Skryer has his memory fully recovered, and capable of picking up and throwing helicopters, trains, etc.

As of 2007, Midway Games was engaged in a legal battle with Mindshadow Entertainment for the Psi-Ops video game rights. Mindshadow alleged that Midway copied Psi-Ops's story from a screenplay written and owned by their client. On December 2, 2008 Judge Florence-Marie Cooper of the United States District Court for the Central District of California issued a ruling granting summary judgment on all counts in Midway's favor. Judge Cooper found no evidence of copyright infringement.[21]

Psi-Ops will forever be one of my favorite games. This game is unique, you have so many choices and customizations to choose from as the game progresses. Once you learn Telekinesis, this game becomes SO much fun! And thats not the only powers you get. Eventually you get things like Pyrokinesis, throw walls of flames at people, Mind Drain, Remote Viewing, which let you see through doors and walls to plan your next moves, Aura View, which let you see things from other dimensions, or secret passages, or my personal favorite: Mind Control. Target an enemy and have HIM destroy your enemies, or make him jump to his death, your call. The storyline was gripping, and at the very end, *spoiler alert* when all the action seems to escalate and the story gets intense... black screen, followed by ''To Be Continued.'' I'm still waiting...

I know the game had co-op but both players control the same person which is kinda odd. Nevertheless this game should be rebooted. Also the music from that game was pretty good I still have the music disc that came with the game which you don't see other games do that.

Agreed 100%. The Jedi Knight games on the PC, with all the community created maps, mods, models and skins, were easily the best Star Wars experiences I've ever had (outside the films of course).
It's a shame that so many game companies don't know what makes a game fun or successful or we probably would have another installment in the works.
Instead we're getting a new Battlefront.. which is okay but nothing like what the Jedi Knight series brought to the table.

I'm really happy you brought this up Nick. I posted a topic on it a while back in a game forum asking if people would like to see a reboot or sequel to it, and most agreed. The ending alone of the original left it open-ended enough for their to be a sequel. With today's improved physics engines, particle effects, and gameplay improvements to the Action/Adventure genre, there's plenty of room for one.

Such an amazing game! Despite the odds against the IP (Midway's collapse, Midway Chicago's rebranding as NetherRealm, a lawsuit, lackluster sales) it boggles my mind that a sequel was never created. (Especially considering the "To Be Continued" cliffhanger.) With today's tech, the IP could be even more impressive.
The Cold song "With My Mind" written for the game was great too. One of my favorite moments came in an elevator sequence, hearing a stripped down, easy listening version of the song. Like the robust mechanics, it was such a great little detail that put the game over the top for me.

Psi-Ops was one of my most beloved games as a kid. Watching this video listening to you talk about how you spent dozens of hours in the training room brought back immense nostalgia. I did the same thing back then, almost to the point of obsession. I remember I had a demo of Psi-Ops on a Playstation Underground Jampack disc and spent weeks playing the two missions and the training room that it came with until I was able to purchase the full game. This game deserves the sequel we were promised but never received. I'll be one very happy individual if that ever happens. I'm going to listen to "With My Mind" by Cold now. Thank you for creating this video.

My favorite thing to do in Psi-ops was slowly push the enemies into the the laser defense things in front of the doors, so they could have time to scream before being vaporized. I also liked to hold enemies over fire. I was a sadistic person in that game...

Nick you have become one of my favourite hosts of Rev3Games. It's rare that I find someone as passionate about the 6th generation as me.
There are so many overlooked and forgotten gems of the 6th generation and Psi Ops is one of them.
I think that if you want to find some great hidden gems look no further then the Original Xbox. There are a lot of exclusive franchises that Microsoft dropped off that I would love to see reboots of. Like Brute Force, Blood Wake, Crimson Skies, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Otogi, Azurik, Stubbs the Zombie, Gunvalkarie, Advent Rising, Jet Set Radio Future, Blinx, Voodoo Vince, Mech Assault, Armed and Dangerous, Ralisports Challenge, Project Gotham Racing, and Fuzion Frenzy.

Fun fact: PSI-OPS laid the groundwork for the control system behind Bioshock. Anywho PSI-OPS was one of my favorite games when I was a kid and I really feel like it was so under appreciated for its time. The controls work phenomenally even though it's pretty old and all of the powers were pretty amazing and caused my obsession with the idea of having telekinesis as a kid.

InvadeGalaxy15 Man, some of those boss fights were amazing. I remember this amazing glitch where if you got to the Barrett fight while using the Barrett skin, the game couldn't tell you apart and let you use all HIS advanced telekinesis - including the ability to throw enormous shipping containers and 18-wheelers around, which the game never lets you do otherwise! Good times. -Nick

    Psi-ops was my life!
The training room aspect was on one of those PS2 Jampacks (I think it was Jampack 10?) And from that moment I was hooked to the game.
Although it would be rendered useless nowadays with the way tactical cameras and camera angles work in games now I was really impressed with the Remote Viewing ability as well as the TK. It was a neat way to strategize in game. They had quite an extensive list of abilities going on that I appreciated.

This game really made my childhood so damn fun, the psychic powers and bosses were mind blowing to me at the time and continue to hold a special place in my heart. My buddy had it. He never let me play it because he was kind of self-absorbed, but I got it later so I could play it on my sister's Xbox. Like you, I played the game for dozens of hours (mostly in the training room because I was bad at video games). Its what made me want any game involving psychic powers, and convinced me to play Psychonauts, a game I might not have otherwise tried.

I always thought about this too. One of the MOST underrated game ever. So fun. I cant believe no one has used this in any other game having been perfected in psi ops. You even upgradedyour powers further into the game, like pyrokenesis. Im so glad that someone made an intelligent argument for this game. Definitely needs a sequel or reboot. I remember back I the day hearing that the sequel was canceled.

i loved that power, I also liked taking an enemies mind then running them into fire, and make them just stand there and burn to death. The only bad thing about it, when you took an enemies mind, the other enemies had a bad habit of immediately running directly to where you were hiding ... I hated that lol.
I also remembered mind drain where you popped their heads while draining psi energy from them. Tk, pyro, yeah I've always wanted a sequel to this, afterall it did end on a cliff hanger

I 100 percent agree and have always wished for a Psi-Ops sequel. It's been awhile but if I remember correctly the game ends on a cliff hanger so it seems the hope for a franchise was there. Always bummed me out.
Nick I wish you had talked about the other powers you get in the game because they are a lot of fun too. You couldn't experiment with them as much but you could still do really creative things. Some of the best gaming moments were setting a grunt on fire with your pyro ability while you then proceed to throw him at his comrades creating mass panic, good times! Oh well just glad someone is talking about it after all these years. Great video Nick, maybe we'll get a Phantom Dust situation for this one too.

I actually played this is a kid, I don't remember a ton of detail because I was 10 at the time but I did enjoy it and I think back to it from time to time because I've always love telekinesis and being able to use it within a game was a very memorable experience even if I only played it for a very brief time. I think it went hand in hand with my interest in super heroes and super humans at the time and eventually became one of the reasons I loved Bioshock so much. I'd love to see the mechanics improved upon and expanded but I don't think the Psi Ops world is all that unique to warrant a sequel, maybe a reboot with a new style instead.

I was hoping one day someone would bring up PSI-OPS. I think that was something that was great about PS2 era games is because it was more about freedom and trying to explore freedom to make it fun. It is very surprising that with all the game concepts that telekinesis physics game is very few and far between. I mean I guess Bioshock has that but the game wasn't about that.
