Warren and I were friends and band-mates back in New Jersey in the mid to late 60's. His immense talent was evident then and it's so joyful to get to hear him with one of my favorite big bands.
@@WDRBIGBAND Sadly, not on a regular basis. We have each other's email and use it sparingly. Another well know musician was part of our early days in high school, namely Alan Pasqua. How lucky am I to have the pleasure of seeing both careers blossom from those days playing store openings and any other venue that would have us. BTW, we all went to different high schools in NJ but they were neighboring towns and it made it easy for us to get together, mostly wood-shedding.
@@WDRBIGBAND BTW, I'm a big band arranger and would love to gift some of my charts to your organization. I wrote mostly for dance bands, Les and Larry Elgart, Warren Covington and for vocalist Johnny Hartman but I do have some concert charts I'd like you to try, no strings attached.
IT'S 6:58 AM ON A COLD 34 DEGREES IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA/WASHINGTON DC. BUT.........WARREN VACH'E S HOT TRUMPET CERTAINLY WARMED ME UP. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. SHARON RAY
I keep imagining how would it be to be a musician of this band -- not necessaruly a star; or even not a musician; maybe just the guy who brings coffee&dougnuts -- and be present to every rehearsal... listening to such music... wow!
So that was the rehearsal....wow.I really enjoy the camera work, especialy when you cut to the Hammond B3,nobody on it🤔😇, but for me what a instrument and great to see it.I will have one in my own gospel big band one day, + four French horns, once I've moved to NZ. You ladies and gentlemen of the band are such an inspiration world wide to how to listen to each other and bring this great music to us. Bring it on Pete. UK
Tremendous bass saxophone player , all of this band members are more than blessed in music world , the arrangers are more than geniuses. Awesome job , better than good
Big Band ! Fabulous" playing & arrangement ! To this great old standard" lovely-laid back' swinging drummer ! -when an good artist paints, there is always - light and shade ! - this is what this band and arrangement have , ! One of the best sessions I have ever seen on the net ! - I keep this first on my list! ( the solos " are just " great ! ( great’ solos from all - cheers to” Warren” & All etc - from , South Wales U.K.
superb semi-discordant harmonies by a top b.band. Great arranger(DeRosa), great composer(Porter), great cornettist(Vache) - all three are clever. Quelle magico combinatione jogadores
Trumpet can sound just as mellow. Listen to George Rabbai on here playing Take me out to the Ballgame which he played on the Ken Burns Baseball Documentary. Warren, a brilliant player, never had any lead chops and instead crushed jazz. Both are tremendous players of inestimable talent.
that note at 0m40s sounds off (The piano) ......You'd be so nice so come home (sour note on "to").... I can't take it when that happens....The WDR Big Band is really so good....wow!
Question: are the musicians reading the notes the whole time while playing? I never knew that the ones & twos needed to read notes! Is a ritual for the mbrs to be so stiff & stoic while playing? I need to know that they feel what they’re putting out…like pianist just did😊
I’ve listened to Warren Vache since his days on the Concord Jazz label. Thanks WDR Big Band for all the great music.
Thank you for watching us!!!

I absolutely love how this cooks down to a legitimate wind ensemble sound for a nice change of phrase.

👍 thomas!
What a giant!
Excellent. Would have been nice to have some reaction from the band afterwards.
One brass player who favours the cornet over the trumpet.
Charles Barry ñ
The people who prefer the cornet like it for its mellow sound. It is less strident than the trumpet. Others prefer the flugelhorn for the same reason

Good! HOPE to See you in Tokyo Soon.
Hi hiroyuki! That would be real fun, playing in Tokyo!

@@WDRBIGBAND VERY GOOD !!!
I know that I have said it before, is Karolina the next “Bird”?!!
🤫 Brooke!
It looks like a strange flugel but sounds like a trumpet. What is it? Who made it? Great chart, btw.

Yes, they are reading the notes while playing.
Nice. Who wrote the score?
It`s written by Cole Porter. The arrangement is by Richard DeRosa.
Decent band - drummer sucks - Warren was great in his early days...nice Phil Woods type young lady on alto
adhanda2017 drummer sucks? Okay.
