  • Marshall Gilkes performs his composition "Cora's Tune" together with the WDR BIG BAND.
    Recorded as part of the concert "Fresh Start" at WDR JAZZCLUB / Cologne in November 2022.
    From 2010 to 2014 Marshall Gilkes was a member of the WDR Big Band, since then he comes to Cologne again and again with new material. With "Fresh Start" he reports back as trombonist, composer and bandleader: "A lot of the music I write these days is inspired by people and places, especially my two kids."

      Came back again - sounds better every time!
      When you have musicians that nail the intonation like these guys - yes, hard to beat. Those luscious chords are locked in!

    I am a die hard sax player, but when I hear Marshall Gilkes play this I cant shut it off... I would learn trombone just to play this like he did.

    As always it goes without a hitch. Impeccable composition by Marshall Gilkes and his solo that takes a breath away. WDR Big Band sounds at its best!

    Like Pat Metheny on trombone! But it's new and fresh! And definitely different from Pat Metheny.
