A300 Ultima Patrol is American just like the 940 Pro. The former was made in Tennessee and the later is made in Texas. But yes the 940 Pro has superior features objectively, no comparison. I just wish there was someone comparing the two shotguns scientifically. Rate of fire, maintenance comparison, trigger pull weight, trigger break angle, trigger reset/overtravel length, muzzle rise/recoil comparison, etc.

Hunt Fish Shoot did a video comparing the two about a month ago if you haven't seen it. He personally liked the A300 more. One particular reason was that his 940 had a wobbly handguard and overall meh fit and finish compared to the A300

I personally wouldn’t run birdshot or any light recoiling ammo. A lot of people like to do that but I think the recoil mitigation of semiautomatic gas operated shotguns negate that; that would be better for pumps in which the recoil goes straight back into the shoulder.

The buckshot shells are probably just a bit longer than the bird shot. I have trust issues with Mossberg after my experience with a semi auto hunting shotgun from them. It was very unreliable and it also had a catastrophic failure on a turkey hunt. Yes I know turkey loads are hot, but seeing as it was marketed as a waterfowl/turkey gun.

asfar as the magazine tube not fitting the proper capacity of shells, I think the Barrel clamp perhaps may be too tight and is pressing on the tube, that was an issue on my 940, so I put on blue locktite and adjusted the tightness to be snug but not giga tight to where it presses on the mag tube.
Im still somewhat new with semi auto shotties, but in my experience, there are break in periods of around 200 rounds until things really start to smooth out and become much more fluid and consistent with the majority of ammunition loads and such as far as regular cycling and such. I don't know how many rounds you have but into it but yeah, to me from an outsiders perspective, that's what I think may be the issue with some of the ammo cycling.
as always tho, top tier content dude, mad props for sharing.

Those cartridges which failed to eject were steel based? I had issues with mine out of the box but I sent it back to Mossberg. Since then I've shot Winchester slugs with a 100% action success rate. I still have some poor quality cartridges (Turkish with steel base) which I'm getting rid of over time. They jam. I own both any have no complaints. In the past auto shotguns were kind of a pain. If you were hunting with high vel. you had to turn the gas piston one way. then if you wanted to skeet shoot, you had to dissasemble the gas system and flip the piston over to get the gun to cycle the low power shells. I have not had that issue with either the Mossburge or Berretta. Try both and buy the one you like best.

I think the A300 has a single action bar whereas the 940 has twin action bars. Not sure what impact that would have on the rigidity or if it would have a serious impact on weight but that's just one of differences between the two. I love my 590A1 so the 940 is on my short list but the A300 Patrol is getting great reviews as well. If I had the money, I'd get the 1301 but those are getting more popular it seems and the price is reflecting that. An odd issue I have the the 940 is the lack of QD points but there's a Thunder Ranch version and an upcoming Professional series of the 940 that has the QD points on the stock and forend.

  • @joehardway

Picked-up a 940 Thunder Ranch, last week! When I got'r home, I could only get 6 intha tube. Removed/replaced extension tube, then I could only get 4! Abit of research revealed the diff betwixt roll-crimped n star/fold-crimped shotshells, which I'd failed to consider, and, as I'd been usin Rio 2 3/4" buckshot, this turned out to be my issue, as they're approx 1/4" longer than my star-crimped shotshells. The extension tube spring's also very particular about how it likes to go intha tube, and, once I removed/replaced tube again, payin VERY close attention, to how I fed tha spring in, I was able to get all 7 in there.
Really thought I'd done my homework on this 1, but I'm only now seein all tha probs ppl'r havin w/940's, and learnin of crappy customer service from Mossberg, with no shipping costs covered, and guns bein returned in same condition (Or WORSE!), with Mossberg claimin they're fixed.
I have yet to shoot'r, but, if this thing don't run, I'm puttin Mossberg on blast!

Was all set to remove/replace ext tube, but, as soon as I loosened barrel clamp screws, I hear tha follower break free. I was skeptical, but I guess overtightening clamp screws can induce issues.
I feel like the angle of tha pistol grip's too shallow, and it forces my trigger hand into an uncomfortable fwd cant. 1 look at'a pic of an A300, and u can see the grip angle's deeper! All in all, it shot well, but I still feel like the A300's tha clear winner, at this price point... @@coldeadhands

The stock 940 weighs about a pound more than the a300. I've got both but I can definitely tell the difference. It's not that big of a deal to me but you can tell the difference

@@uncompliant Here is my update on my 940 Pro Tactical. I installed the Sig Romeo X Compact Open Emitter Red Dot. It has built in rear sights and it does line up with the front fiber optic. I zeroed the red dot to co witness so everything lines up. it is fantastic. Wen i purchased it i took it 100% apart, cleaned everything and lubricated the entire firearm wtih 100% Synthetic Lubricant heavily. Then I assembled and cycled the shotgun 500 times, Took everything back apart and cleaned everything. noticed some metal shavings and cleaned it all out. re lubricated everything and shot over the next 2 range trips roughly 250 - 350 rounds of slugs, bird shot and 00 buck shot rounds. The shotgun ran flawlessly both times. I have cleaned and relubricated ready for range day #3 probably this week to run more through it. My friend who has the Beretta 1301 we shoot side by side. It is a nice shotgun however that shotgun is also polymer wrapped the receiver metal is not as thick as the mossberg. the action feels smoother however i have no doubt i believe the Mossberg will out last the Beretta in the long term. the beretta is very nice however everyone likes the way my Sig Romeo X Compact mounts directly on the frame and co witness. You can't have this setup on the berettas. So for me will see i am super happy with the 940 pro tactical purchase.

The big thing with these shotguns is this. The 940 was based off of the 930, the 930 had alot of problems. Current shoot more than 200 rounds through it without cleaning. The beretta a300, is based off the 1301. Witch has never had a problem. Ide rather take the cheaper model based off arguably one of the best shotguns. Than a shotgun patterned off of one that has many problems. That's my thought process.

1301 and a300 are completely different guns the a300 is closer to the mossberg

@luisuribe5432 not completely different. It's the same gun with a different/older style bolt. It is "closer" to the mossberg but it's made by Italians.

I take buying American very seriously and would rather get the mossberg but also by your logic save up more and get the m4 which is the best of the best. No arguments when it comes to truly battle tested.
