I feel like the only person who doesn’t want to go to law school to help people or make a difference or be all glamorous in court, but because it seems like an interesting job and an intriguing world to enter into (plus, money is always a bonus). Then again, my goal is corporate law. I think I’ll feel like such a badass negotiating mergers and company purchases and such. So powerful! Plus, I don’t want to be in court all the time; I’d rather work directly with clients and whatnot.
This video was such great timing for me because I want to do my undergraduate in sociology, but I was afraid it would not benefit me for law school. Thanks!
Lynnea thank you for making such informative videos! I am currently doing my undergraduate degree and aspire to go to law school. I would highly appreciate if you could make a video dedicated to how you got into law school. I am sure a lot of your followers would want to hear from you including me of course! Please and thank you! wishing you the very best in everything you do! :)
I love all of your videos! They are all really helpful and informative, keep doing what you're doing! :) I am currently a senior at Penn State and I've been applying to a bunch of law schools over the last few weeks. I know a lot of people who are either in law school currently or have graduated from law school recently, so I would like to think that I have at least a good general idea as to what I should expect. Do you have any tips or pointers as to what was different about law school from what you expected, or things to help better prepare me for my 1L year in the fall? Also, I'm glad you're enjoying school! I can only hope that I enjoy it as much as you! Good Luck!
I would say that it's a lot more reading than I expected, so be prepared for that. But it was also less strict and intense than I anticipated, if that makes sense? Check out my "Myths" video because I believed all of the myths until I got to law school. Hope this helps, and good luck!! :)
Question! (For next video) "how was the process in applying for law school, your requirements, and what did they look at for your undergraduate?" > I understand each school varies, but I'm interested in your experience
I'm so glad you mentioned how old you are and what age most people are in law school. I'm 21 and I graduate undergrad next month and want to take two years off before going to law school. I'll be 24 around then so it's good to know that's he average age. I was thinking people just go right after undergrad.
I love watching your videos Lynnea! :) they are very helpful, you talk about important topics! I just wanted to ask if Law school can change your personality and how? I'm in my senior year and I'm interested in law and political science. thanks!
I've been watching your videos for a while and I' really enjoying them. You are doing a great job. I am a law student as well, but in Brazil. It's interesting to see how different things are in another country.
hi Lynnea! I'm a 15 year old aspiring lawyer from Montreal. I hope to do my undergrad at U of Toronto and my dream school is University of Ottawa, just like you! It's only an hour and a half away from my hometown, meaning it wouldn't be too hard to come and visit my family. I am so in love with your channel and you are so inspiring. So much love for a fellow Canadian current/future lawyer :)
Hi Mia! Thank you so much! :) I wish I had known that I wanted to come to law school at 15 - you're ahead of the game and that's awesome! You can absolutely achieve your dreams :)
I really enjoy your videos! I am also aspiring to go to law school after I finish my undergrad! Would you be able to do a video on the process of administration at the University of Ottawa and what you did during your undergrad to be admitted? I'm currently doing a double major in Crim and Psych at uOttawa!
Hi, I have 2 question, 1st, Is it true that the tuition fee for law school is 60,000 per sem or is it for the whole sem? 2nd I'm watching moot court in harvard and I'm really amaze on how they do that? Are there course for that? If you have oralist course exclusive for law, what are they teaching there?
Tuition is different for different schools - most in Canada are under $30,000 per year. And yes, there are oral advocacy courses you can take and some are moot competitions. They teach you how to write and present your arguments!
Hi, Ms.Love, You are from harvard, how much is per sem there? Can you give us some reference book abour improving our argument. I'm Gerald from Philippines. I already graduated law school here. I'm thinking of going there :)
Hi I have a question...so I like sociology/psychology as well, and I'm not into politics and government topics...would you recommend for me to go to law school? (I'm interested in criminology as well.)
I didn't like politics either! Check out my video, "Should You Go to Law School". I discuss my opinion on going to law school, and hopefully it will help you!
The "E" word was electives. Also, you did say U of O before you answered the question. :) Lastly, how do you feel like U of O compares to other schools for environmental law? What other schools did you consider or would you have considered for similar reasons?
Hey I have a business law book written by Cheeseman which covers Business Law I and II for undergraduate business students. I would like to know if the information in that book is similar to what you would read in a business law class at a law school. Just from looking at the covers of law school books, they look pretty awkward and different. Thanks!
Hello, I also am from Ottawa and I wanted to know what school did you go to that offer law programs cause mine sadly don't but I am interested in the subject.
Lynnea, I saw one of the vlog that you did an LSAT Prep studies, can you post it on here on all the books and its ISBN numbers so I may purchase those or similar test preps? Also how do you find out on each law school's strong core and specialize in such as family law, criminal law, etc? Haven't look on LSAC but I will. Please let me know thanks.
Thanks so much for the video! Can you talk about any legal summer internships/programs you completed during your undergrad? As you know, a lot of law related firms and organizations look for JD students to hire, so how can I start to get involved as an undergrad?
Hi! Could you please make a video on whether you think that extracurricular activities are crucial to obtaining a summer job at a big Law firm and if so, what kind of extracurriculars are the most valued by employers? Thank you!
Tang Yuenshan You dont have to start that early. But it is always helpful to know about the legal system of HK. An introductory book I would recommend is Legal System of Hong Kong by Michael J Fisher. In fact, one of your first courses in your first year would be about the legal system:) - Im studying law in HK, best of luck to you!
I go to uOttawa too and I'm doing my undergrad there right now! I've been wanting to go to law school since grade 11 law too haha! I just wanted to say that your videos motivate me and are so helpful! Thank you so much and best of luck to you! 😊
The bar is the exams you are required to pass to get your license to be a lawyer. After that, you can provide legal advice to people. The LSAT is the test required to get into law school (in Canada).
Can you shed some light on smart studying in the first year with the following modules : Criminal, Contract, LSM and Public? Please talk about all these modules in detail.
Lynnea - I am a civil litigator and legal English tutor in Brazil (I teach legal vocabulary for Brazilian attorneys.) Do you mind if I ask you to show us the law books you're currently using at the University of Ottawa? In the past, I spent some time in Toronto studying Introduction to the Canadian Legal System; I read a book authored by Gerald L. Gall. Anyhow, please show us your books' covers. Thank you. Tarlei
Do you enjoy it? That's what matters the most! If you have the opportunity, try taking some lighter courses next semester or year. But a couple of bad grades is normal! Grades matter, but they are just one important part of an application - at least in Canada they are. Keep your head up :)
I really love your channel..it's so relevant for student life all over the world ( by the way kisses from Israel). i wanted to ask you how are you recommend to organize the material during the semester? and what is the most effective way in your opinion to learn a large amount of material? thanks:)
For the most part, for me, all course material is organized by the professor - so I have certain readings to do for each class. And as for how to learn a large amount of material, it depends on how you learn. I would suggest keeping up with the readings in each class and taking notes on them. Try to engage with the material, doing any practice questions in your textbook and just reflecting on what you read. Then, when you have to study for exams, you won't have to re-learn everything! Hope this helps :)
Hey! Can you tell about how international students fund their legal education in your university if they are pursuing JD? Also, a rough idea of proportion of international students in a JD programme at your school. Thanks!
vinayak khanna Don't you have to study law in the same country that you want to practice? It's quite risky to spend so much on law school and then not even get citizenship.
lol! electives ...and btw great video, very informative, and im just here contemplating how useless of a degree political studies will be as pre law, but since im overly interested in how politic work, i guess knowledge comes first (starting this fall @usask)
I wanted to take criminal law. And I dont know if I could do this. Cause all ive watches movies or tv series about criminal law is heavy to take it. And yes me too im not so fan of politics. Actually I hate politics. But my mind and heart wants this course to take it. And im not also into everyone to be watch for. And being a lwayer should be brave infront of everubody. While me,if someone is watching me. It distracts me. What to do? Ps: someday cause still im in 3rd yr high. But my mom told me that i shall pick one course for my future. That now,i shall know what course im going to have someday.
I'm so glad you love Ottawa! That's my hometown :) You've really inspired me to try to become a lawyer after my undergrad!
Aw, that's wonderful!! :)

Plus, I don’t want to be in court all the time; I’d rather work directly with clients and whatnot.
You are not on your own I'm quite odd and I'm 13 and I've known what I wanted to do for 2 years now and I'm pretty well educated so I plan a lot
This video was such great timing for me because I want to do my undergraduate in sociology, but I was afraid it would not benefit me for law school. Thanks!
No problem :)
I just discovered you and thank you so much for posting these videos! As someone who is considering law school, this is incredibly helpful.
I love your channel so much! I'll be applying for law school soon and this is very helpful!
That's great to hear, thank you! Good luck with your applications :)

I don't go to Harvard, so I can't really help with that. Sorry!

Hey Lynnea, I'm currently a second year undergraduate at Carleton University and I was wondering when you suggest starting to prep for the LSAT?
Sara Ho she's done a video on it!
Oh okay I'll definitely check it out thanks!:)

I'm curious what the method of teaching is in your classes? Is it a Socratic way of teaching? like do you have recitations everyday?
Some of my classes have been socratic, but I would say that most are not. Hope this helps!
Hi! I am a Form 3 students(15 years old) studying in Hong Kong and I wanna to be a solicitor in the future so what kind of books should I read now?

What is the bar and l sats I know they are tests but when do you have them ACS what do you do after them.

I'm wondering if doing a law undergrad isn't worth it, I have some tough professors that are killing my GPA
Do you enjoy it? That's what matters the most! If you have the opportunity, try taking some lighter courses next semester or year. But a couple of bad grades is normal! Grades matter, but they are just one important part of an application - at least in Canada they are. Keep your head up :)
