I got this set today for Christmas and I am so unbelievably excited!

Bought fall 2023. Love the paint. New to Gouache painting. Learning to use this highly pigmented, opaque, matte when dry material.
My HIMI set is coming up to 2 years old now and I still enjoy using it. The cover is good enough not to dry it out and even if its slightly harden I just add drops of water, let it sit and stir it with mini spatula. Works like new. I’ve been on a creative grind lately after a year of nothing. I get excited just watching these kind of videos. It gives me motivation to start a new piece everytime ❤

2 Years?! It didn't caught mold? my set caught mold after not using for 4-5 months. How did you maintained it may I ask? I'm hesitant to buy a new set

Omg I just got their pastel version and you touched on SO many of my issues... Even a year ago. I tried to look them up beforehand but nothing came up ofc until AFTER I got them...Literally everything you said, still a problem but WORSE. Now there are 4 clamps, one on each side, all hard to open (Which I actually appreciate I guess bc it's not gonna spill), it took me almost an HOUR to get the plastic off the tops of the containers themselves, most of the time it was trying to rip up the actual plastic the paint was SITTING IN. The rare times it wasn't doing that, it squeezed the paint out onto my hand, because of how hard I had to hold it to try and rip the lids off. The brushes stained instantly, even using the pastel colours. Ughhh I wanted to love it SO much, but it worked exactly like my acrylic paints, and those didn't leave me with bruised fingertips from pinching so hard to try and remove lids >.>
Oh and for the swatch cards, I had assumed (wrongly) That was the swatch post-drying, and painted accordingly. That was not the case and now I have a pastel neon portrait that has peachy skin tone instead of orange (As it was on the swatch card) ._. welp lol

I wonder if warming them slightly with a blow drier would soften the glue enough to make them easier to open.

There is a simple and easy way to open it turn on the iron beside you and pass the color with the sealed side on the iron when it’s hot and the glue will loose-up a bit so you can tear it easily try it when you buy a new one again👍🏼
Mine did not have any card. But even if I got a return my set is brand new and I really really like them they beautiful colors and they non toxic so you can flush mixed water in the sink. ❤

I got this set a week ago, I had to use tweezers to open mine but they were sealed really good, I agree the colours on the card were off by a lot but other than that it was really good kit
I would say DONT DROP IT , I had just opened all of the colors and it dropped ( maybe one foot ; my desk is on the floor) it completely mixed with the colors inside, even though the top was still on and it dropped on the correct side [ the bottom] 😢 so have a it designated spot 😅. Literally had to scoop out every color 😢so be careful.❤

Didn't find out about this set until after I bought the Michaels artist loft brand, so I probably won't buy it for now, but I ran into the same issues. Struggled opening the seals, the brushes were easily stained, and it took a bit to pop off the lid cause it was basically suctioned on lol
i knoww rightt ! when we open the seal its so harddd but there are also some seals that are easy to open...and one of the gouache accidently went into my mouth...
While it's a beautiful set. You got to use them often or else they dry out
can you not rehydrate it with some water?
@buffpathfinder3607 You can, but the problem is too much it becomes extremely liquid, you can accidentally make a huge mess with your set and mix the paints up

After using it's suggested by artists to lightly spritz with distilled water and seal carefully storing in cool, dry area. If not using frequently, important to check regularly to rehydrate with a light spritz of distilled water if they are in jeopardy of drying out. I added drops of honey to each tub to preserve and guard against mold/mildew (live in very humid environment), and stirred each gently with toothpick to incorporate water and honey. I find this activity very calming and meditative.

Is the closed case good enough to keep them from drying out once the seals are removed? Also do you spray them with water while using them to keep from drying out?
Yes, as long as you keep the lid closed and spray the paints when you use them, it should stay fresh. 😊👍🏻

How do i open thé gouaches easier my fingers hurt just trying to open them
I’ve heard if you use a blow dryer on the heat setting it might work 🤷🏼♀️. The heat should soften up the adhesive which should make it easier to open. Please don’t hurt yourself tho 🤗.

I would suggest getting tubed gouache 🙃. I feel like they will last much longer. The Himi gouache tubs dry out really fast so you have to maintain them to stay fresh.
For tubed gouache you only squeeze out the amount you need.

what to do when it dries ?
I only stir the paints with water. It does look like oil on top but it is not 😊. If it were an oil based paint then it would not be water soluble. Hope this helps 🤔

@@molly25716 no need to be embarrassed 🥹 I totally understand. To be honest I would not recommend them (sorry) they are really hard to keep fresh. I would recommend getting gouache in tubes so you can pour a little at a time.

Did you get brush with it or bought separately?
The brushes came with it 🙃. But they were not very good (this is after using them for a little under a year) they eventually split down the middle 😩 and started to fall apart.

@@BLANK-vc6ws sure thing 😊. They were pretty good. They were opaque and could be easily rewetted. I would totally suggest getting tubed gouache tho, because it really is a chore to keep them fresh and not dried out. 🤷🏼♀️
