In my experience, it is important to not add water to the palette. Take some paint out and work with them OR use distilled water (for reactivation). These things can go moldy.... D: Also, there is Gouache Medium for reactivation from different brands. X3 I love to work with all kinds of gouache and sometimes this stuff is tricky.
Goofy walks into a room and sees Mickey Mouse painting. Impressed with what he saw, Goofy said "Gouache Mickey!!!". Mickey replied "No Goofy, I am using water colours"
Thank you very much for the 6-month update, Kasey! I'm so happy the paints handle perfectly fine, even after a long period of neglect. They really seem ideal for casual painters who don't do anything with them for ages, and then suddenly want to paint that very minute. I've ordered mine from China a while ago, and I'm really looking forward to playing with them.
Quick tipss~ -keep a wet(damp)300 gsm (mainly thick cotton paper) cotton paper on the tray (not the color compartment) if you're planning to store them unused for a couple of months. majority of the paints are gonna stay moist without drying or cracking. - open one of the white paints (if there are 2), then open the other one once you've run out of the first one. this way you have a new white paint when you do run out.
good idea but the whites arent the same. one is titanium white used for highlights since its more opaque. The other is a regular white which is more transparent and generally used for color mixing.
I know this is like a super old comment but was just wondering would the damp paper make it susceptible to molding? Or does it just depend on the temperature since I've been wanting to buy the set but scared it could grow mold due to the hot humid temperature in my country. I wouldn't care if it dried out since I know we can just reactivate it with water, its just the molding that scares me lol
After a little more experience I prefer covering the top with saran wrap and you're good for a couple of months, but after 3 months spray it down and you're good for another 3

You're comparing high end acrylic gouache to pretty cheap water soluble gouache. That's probably the reason why you like the consistency of acrylic gouache so much more 😁
Ehh There are high end water based/soluble gouaches out there that are of premium professional quality... it’s more of a preference, it has a lot to do with viscosity & technique too. There are pros and cons between both when comparing two professional brands together 🤷🏻♀️ I’m not claiming he the Himi brand is that grade though. It’s more of a student grade paint that probably doesn’t hold up over time compared to higher end lines. You get what you pay for! You can also just use a white and your preferred darks as a base and add watercolor for a custom tint.
@@sarahbocinsky as a person who’s had some himi gouache for two years I can confirm it’s not worth it... Caran D ache pans are definitely more worth it or their tubes ... yikes
