Both songs are about Bono's wife Ali Stewart Hewson - his real name is Paul David Hewson - and the challenges of loving a rockstar and being a rockstar who is married. "All I Want is You" is "our song" for my wife and I. We heard it first the night we met when watching the movie "Reality Bites" and it was our first dance wedding song. (Which I can't really recommend as it's 6+ minutes long with a long instrumental ending). One of the world’s greatest rock super bands with a huge body of work for you to listen to. Also one of the best live bands you will ever see. Maybe check out some stuff from the Zoo TV concert in Sydney.
This was the song that made them world famous. I was a teenager when it came out, and I knew who they were before its release, but after...it was like night and day in terms of their popularity. Thank you for this!
That "whistle tone" is actually the guitar. The guitarist (The Edge) basically helped a friend to invented a tool to make the guitar sound like that. True pioneers of their time
The “Infinite Guitar” was made by Edge’s friend, Michael Brooks. I own one that has a derivation of that system. WOWY is probably the only song where the infinite sustain system was put to great use. Radiohead uses a similar system on one of their guitars, but they haven’t come near what it’s done on this song.
@@CathyHolton-jh1xvits used a ton by The Church. It’s just an E-Bow. Edge’s innovation was to implement it in the guitar (like a modern sustainiac pickup) - so he didn’t have to hold the E-bow - the e-bow has been around since the 60’s though.
@@zoeherriot I like the Sustainiac system. I’m not sure if you’ve ever used it, but it keeps all strings at the ready in the force field and the player has to control it. Play with a slide and use the tremolo and it sounds like an entirely different instrument. I play around with the Ebow every now and then, but switching strings takes a moment. The Sustainiac is always ready. I put the Sustainiac on an older, cheaper off-brand Stratocaster and it’s more satisfying. It’s like punting a midget when no one is looking.
@@CathyHolton-jh1xv lol - yes, I’ve used it - it’s really cool. I know Ed O’brien of Radiohead has a signature strat with a similar system built in. It’s good enough that the Edge actually uses them on tour. :)
Basically, U2 took over where Led Zeppelin cut off, and they carried the banner of conscious rock'n'roll with an emphasis on conscience for the next 25 years. They aren't as improvisationally dazzling in some ways, but with a vast perspective and carefully crafted effects and meanings. They wrote anthems about both personal struggles/evolution and social/human-rights issues around the world. So many great songs! "Pride" "One Tree Hill" "Mothers of the Disappeared" "Bullet the Blue Sky" "God Part 2" "Rattle and Hum" "One" "Sunday Bloody Sunday" "The Fly" and on and on... They became such an important voice in human rights and policy that they were literally consulted by senators and prime ministers and top church leaders for inspiration and advice. Their fearless passion for the human condition, both personal and social, affected the world in important ways. They made it COOL to care... to REALLY CARE... what happens to both your own soul and your fellow humans right here on earth. Right now, you are living in a better age to some extent because they dared to stand up and challenge poeple to make better of themselves, inside and out, and to throw off the tyrant, both inside and out. The also had a sense of humor about themselves, and they made it fun... and perhaps that makes just as much difference.
Great reaction, U2 is a proper rabbit hole. Their first 20 years from their debut album is outstanding. They moved with the times album on album changing their sound and image. Sometimes losing fans along the way but also gaining a lot of fans with their new direction. The song is written from Bono’s perspective of being a rock and roll frontman but also being a married man. Not being able to live without the one or the other. You need to do U2 live though they are arguably the greatest live band of all time You need to hear One Where the streets have no name Still haven’t found what I’m looking for Mysterious ways Stuck in a moment Vertigo
One of the best albums of the 80's, seen them live a few times, Cardiff, Wales in 2009 they played a stripped down version of this and 80,000 people sang their hearts out - wonderful experience,
I love this band. When I set up my U2 playlist, I told myself to not get carried away with it and just pick the "good ones". My U2 playlist has 62 songs. So many to choose from, "MAGNIFICENT" and "VERTIGO" are nice picks, highly recommend. After that, you've only got 59 more to experience. ;)
The album this is from "The Joshua Tree" is their master piece . It is a don't skip a track album that is best listened to in one sitting to properly take it all in . For a Truly Emotional performance check out their performance of "Bad" at LIVE AID in '85 . Everyone always talks about Queen stealing that show but U2's performance that day was just as good . BTW the "whistling" tone is guitarist The Edge , playing & controlling his guitars feedback . He is not a traditional "shredder" type guitarist but he uses the instrument to "paint" colors of soundscapes on the bands songs .
U2 were a great band from the 80's - with some massive worldwide hits - some must-listening songs: "Sunday bloody Sunday"; "New Year's Day"; "Pride (in the name of love)"; "Beautiful Day"; "Vertigo"; "I still haven't found what I'm looking for".
When U2 War came out in the 80s it was my soundtrack for the summer… the cassette had the entire album on each side of the tape so you could listen all the way through uninterrupted and then it would flip… good memories
Having seen quite a few of your reactions now, I can confidently recommend that you listen to U2's All I Want Is You. It's a gorgeous song that I think you'd absolutely fall in love with!
Stacey, This is the song in the Summer of 1987, I went from 🇸🇪Sweden to work @ Diabetic Kids Summer Camp in Penn State (Spring Mount Camp Firefly)!!! My Coworker from Scotland, promoted the song & made it known to all of us, so after about 8 weeks we all had a hard time into the end of camp's to separate with kids, staff & other staff! We became like a Family! After Camp break, travelling around visiting Coworkers, Kids etc we finally hapened to visit Boston & @ the "Old" Garden we sat in the Ice hockey Penalty box & first saw Little Steven & Disciples of Soul as a warm up to the all summer hyyped U2 in their "Josuah Tour" Concert! Still reading?!😉 Anyway, still 37 years ago... This Great piece of music - Gives me chills & Great memories back!🫶 A very special reaction, Thank YOU! Take care & Keep it up! Greetings from 🇸🇪! B🙃
I fogot what a great voice Bono has. I remember the first time I learned of U2 when I was a kid. MTV was playing a U2 concert at Red Rocks which is an ampitheatre cut into the side of a mountain in Denver. The mist was rolling in from the mountains while they were performing and it was magic. I believe "The Joshua Tree" was voted best album of the 80's if I'm not mistaken. "Bullet the Blue Sky" was the best song on that album IMO.
Welcome to the U2 rabbit hole. They are amazing and world famous and universally loved for a reason. Maybe check out Where the Streets Have No Name, live at Slane Castle. Actually the version where they perform All I Want Is You which evolves into Where the Streets Have No Name. It’s absolutely incredible and gives one a good understanding of how great this band is live. Love your content ❤
HI Stacey! Thanks for coming into U2...This band spews emotions on all levels and that in combination with inspiring lyrics will move you every day! They go back a long way and I can't wait for you to dive in to more of this journey...Thanks
I met my wife when this was in the charts, so it always has a special place in my heart. 36yrs later and two very grown up daughters, it's still special, and oh my, how time has flown by.
How many drum patterns are on this song? I noticed at least 2 changes; they’re typical for big U2 songs. I counted at least 2 drum patterns on “Pride” also.
U2 is my favorite band ever. The Joshua Tree was my first album I bought by myself back in the day. Oh I love the 80s forever. Best music decade in my opinion. Most number 1 hits. Glad U2 is still there performing.
The whistle tone that you refer to in the background is actually a guitar played with an E-Bow, which is what gives the song its high pitch whistle -esque effect in the background. It’s an underrated effect, but gives this song its beautiful sound.
@@uv77mc85 Yes, I did. They came to Baltimore MD. That was in the early 2000's. That band has been my favorite since the early 80's! Bono is so interactive with the crowd! Bring people up on stage. Getting the crowd hyped with lots of love for the world! It's definitely a "Bucket List" moment. 😀
Nailed it. This song is about being presented with a rock and a hard place, when all you wanted is for everything to work out. If you can't give up your rock and she can't give up her hard place then it's not going to work out and you know that. This is about realizing that's where you are in that relationship.
I am sure this girl is very interested in the 1970s Northern Irish political shenanigans. Maybe you could link her to a collection of Ian paisley speeches. i am sure her seat will be soaking wet in minutes.
🎼🔥🔥🍀 ... these are the famous rockers from Ireland. .. they have been megastars for over 35 years. It is hard for someone my age (.. college in the mid 80s ..) to think that someone has never heard of U2. That really seems impossible, but you are younger. Not only are they phenomenal artists .. but they have been world statesman for equality , peace and for feeding the hungry. They have large voices in the world of celebrities trying to make a difference. I will suggest one of my favorite songs for you... it is " Desire " .. from one of their early albums .. - Rattle And Hum - Looking forward to your discovery of U2. 🍀🔥🔥🔥🎼
I was a big fan in the 80s and then early 90s but my interest waned over time, but still really like their late 1970s and 1980s albums. Thank you for the nice reaction.
One of your best reactions yet. As I have stated before, I never miss one of your shows. Your totally honest and from the heart . Keep up the good work pretty lady
U2 is an all time great band in music history. Too many songs to suggest, but I will recommend reacting to their song "One" - a song Rolling Stone magazine listed as one of the top 50 songs of all time.
My all time favourite rocky ballad (The only thing matching the feels for me these days is 'Daydreaming' by Band-Maid...also a little of that chiming guitar style early on). U2 were the biggest ticket in the world for a while...epic songs, Bono a great poet, and what comes to mind next is 'Pride (In The name of Love)'...their tribute to Martin Luther King.
Where The Streets Have No Name... is a must for any music lover. It's an upbeat partner to With Or Without You. Both songs have a couple of amazing live versions.
This song brings your heart in places it doesn't even imagine they exist... those places in wich you realize there's someone or something you can't live with or without. Everytime I listen to this song I feel a sort of "happy sadness"... it's a masterpiece. Greetings from Italy!
Gotta give The Sweetest Thing a listen. Ive been a fan of U2 since i was 14 and seen them live in Vancouver bc when i was 17. Loved all of their music since. If you like an emotional connection to your music, U2 will do that for you.
Great reaction as usual Stacey . I saw U2 at Wembley Stadium London in 1997 on the Popmart tour . It was spectacular complete with a 40 foot tall lemon which turned into a mirror ball that opened up to reveal the band inside . Crazy sight . 🙂
One of my favorite bands of all time! Glad to see you getting exposed to their signature sound. The best Of 1980-1990/The B-sides is a double album CD i got in the very late 90s and almost all those songs are on my regular playlist. Pride (in the name of love) and Where the Streets Have No Name are two of my favorite iconic songs from that decade.
Love U2 ! a great band for sure. sonority of guitars are so special of this period: 80-90's. But check the live version of this song in the "Live in Boston 2001". A great moment for a fan girl. she will remember for all her life !!! here another one to check: "the cure" !
Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart; you are a beautiful, Bright Angel letting the music flow through you and expressing how it touched your heart - so you are the music. All your hard work and commentary are greatly appreciated. Thank you for all the diversity of songs and genres you play. Try their song "It's A Beautiful Day".
If you want to fall in love with U2 there's only one album that fits the bill. Their live "Under A Blood Red Sky" is an iconic album that stands above all other U2 and sits in the pantheon of "greatest live albums of all time" It's their earlier stuff before they got into power ballads. "This song is not a rebel song. This song is Sunday Bloody Sunday....."
arguably U2 is the one of the biggest pop rock bands from the 80's this is one of their best, I would also recommend Mysterious Ways, I still Haven't found what I'm looking for, Sunday bloody Sunday, Where the streets have no name, One, New Year's Day and Desire. Bono is an Icon of human rights and enviornmental issues as well as a powerful frontman.
Saw them on The Joshua Tree tour in 1986 at Wembley Stadium - London. No snazzy screens, or on-stage theatrics - just four musicians, playing to around 70000+ adore fans, and we sang along to ever song - for a live concert experience nothing matched it since. Now you feel its the show that is more important than the song - not then
So much fun following your reactions. You are definitely hitting the best of the best bands in each era. U2 were a top band with some very relevant songs of the time. Love all your content.
Early U2. I will follow. New years day, Sunday bloody Sunday. Their major break thru was unforgettable fire. Bad, a sort of homecoming, MLK. A unforgivable fire. The big mainstream albums.
U2 is one of the real supergroups of all time. More than 20 years after the release of this song, they still sold out their 360 degree world tour at all the biggest venues. I saw them in Johannesburg in 2011 with a crowd of more than 100000.
Growing up in the 70's and 80's, I always considered U2 as the last of the UK (sorta), stadium filling, rock "superbands" (they were the first "new" band of my life/generation that could fill 80,000+ stadiums, so they were "our generations supergroup"). Plenty of really good stuff since U2 came on the stage, but I will always view them as both closing and opening a chapter of rock history. They have some really good stuff you will enjoy, particularly their earlier 80's to early 90's stuff.
This "whistle" sound in the back was the "infinite guitar" played by the Edge (only 3 made owns by the creator, the Edge and Daniel Lanois). You can hear it in the first part of the song and at the end. That sound saved the song as they were not convinced by the song. The Edge got the guitar, started to play and Bono, who was in a close room trying keep the song heard the sound and understood that was the key they were looking for.
U2 are one of my favourite bands. They released their first album in 1980, this song is from their 1987 album "The Joshua Tree". I would recommend you check out "One", "I still haven't found what I'm looking for", "New Year's Day", "Pride (In the name of Love)" and "The Fly".
There was a time when we would go to the movies to watch U2's documentary: "Rattle and hum". It was awesome. Idk how we all already knew and loved all of their songs. They've always had that aura, sort of speak. U2 is basically a musical force, melodically, harmonically and pretty deep and emotional in terms of lyrics. Thanks for your reaction. It's clear that you get U2's vibes all over it.
Nice reaction and a great introduction to U2. They were a huge band back in the 90s and 2000s, from Dublin, Ireland, but became probably the biggest band in the world and I'm quite astonished that you've never heard of them, even if you are in your 20s and haven't heard the songs they were still around when you were younger when becoming aware of music they were still around so you must have been living under a rock!!! The lead singer Bono is still one of the biggest rock stars in the world. Look forward to hearing you react to more of their music as they have so many great songs. Take care and have a great day.

@@clarkbarrett6274 Wow. My U2 music twin.
One of the world’s greatest rock super bands with a huge body of work for you to listen to. Also one of the best live bands you will ever see. Maybe check out some stuff from the Zoo TV concert in Sydney.
Especially “Love is blindness” from that Sydney concert. That moment with the fan near the end.
This was the song that made them world famous. I was a teenager when it came out, and I knew who they were before its release, but after...it was like night and day in terms of their popularity.
Thank you for this!
Every 80s boy and girl in their teens fell in love and got their hearts broken to this song.
Fact bro!
Yeah, me 2.
This song and "One"
That "whistle tone" is actually the guitar. The guitarist (The Edge) basically helped a friend to invented a tool to make the guitar sound like that.
True pioneers of their time
The “Infinite Guitar” was made by Edge’s friend, Michael Brooks. I own one that has a derivation of that system. WOWY is probably the only song where the infinite sustain system was put to great use. Radiohead uses a similar system on one of their guitars, but they haven’t come near what it’s done on this song.
Its not a guitar. It's a microphone plugged into a stylaphone inserted into bonos arse.
You need to do U2 live though they are arguably the greatest live band of all time
You need to hear
One
Where the streets have no name
Still haven’t found what I’m looking for
Mysterious ways
Stuck in a moment
Vertigo
One of the best albums of the 80's, seen them live a few times, Cardiff, Wales in 2009 they played a stripped down version of this and 80,000 people sang their hearts out - wonderful experience,
"New Year's Day" is my favorite U2 song. It's haunting and evokes post-apocalyptic images.
I know a girl, a girl called party...
❤❤❤
"were"
Big fan of their earlier work. New years day and Sunday, bloody Sunday are amazing.
They are musical geniuses. Nobody sounds like U2. Amazing reaction! Thank you.
You should try their live version of "All I Want is You / Where the Streets Have No Name"
When U2 War came out in the 80s it was my soundtrack for the summer… the cassette had the entire album on each side of the tape so you could listen all the way through uninterrupted and then it would flip… good memories
Pink Floyd and U2, my two faves!
High five! 🙌 Two of my faves as well!
Having seen quite a few of your reactions now, I can confidently recommend that you listen to U2's All I Want Is You. It's a gorgeous song that I think you'd absolutely fall in love with!
U2, one of the greatest rock bands ever to exist. Truly unique, talented, and rated so by musicians and non musicians alike.
Great reaction.
Another great U2 song to react to is "All I want is you" it is a great song and the film clip is beautiful.
This is a truly beautiful and deep song. Utterly perfect! U2 has many great songs, this is one of the best.
Still reading?!😉
Anyway, still 37 years ago...
This Great piece of music - Gives me chills & Great memories back!🫶
A very special reaction, Thank YOU!
Take care & Keep it up!
Greetings from 🇸🇪!

One of the best outros ever in a song. So simple and beautiful.
Their hit's from The Joshua Tree album would be the next logical place to go.
Im 20y and U2 has been my favorite band since i was 10y, Bono, Edge,Adam Clayton, Larry M together make you feel so touched in so many ways.
The drums are the best part for me on this one ! Use to play it over and over beating my desk to death ! Back in 87 when it was released ! lol
How many drum patterns are on this song? I noticed at least 2 changes; they’re typical for big U2 songs. I counted at least 2 drum patterns on “Pride” also.
@@CathyHolton-jh1xv Their awesome drummer is way underrated, i myself cant even remember his name right now, dammit, lol.
@@joescott8877 Larry Mullen Jr.
She must have lived under a rock for her whole life if she has never heard of U2.
don't expect anyone under 30 to know music like U2. They haven't done anything in like 2 decades. And the world has changed.
@@fb-gj7yi The Beatles have not done anything since 1970, so you expect her to not know them either?
U2 is my favorite band ever. The Joshua Tree was my first album I bought by myself back in the day. Oh I love the 80s forever. Best music decade in my opinion. Most number 1 hits. Glad U2 is still there performing.
The whistle tone that you refer to in the background is actually a guitar played with an E-Bow, which is what gives the song its high pitch whistle -esque effect in the background. It’s an underrated effect, but gives this song its beautiful sound.
Hi Stacey. make sure you're gonna watch the 2001 live version in Boston. All I say is: "when a dream comes true" 😉
Great reaction again Stacey. For U2 it all begins and ends with the song “Bad” at Live Aid. A must watch.
OMG, yeah, i saw that with friends as it was happening! That girl getting on stage and Bono holding her as they swayed to the tune!
My favorite song of all time!!! Seeing them in concert was epic!!
Did you see them before Bonos voice fell to pieces?
He wrote it about his father
Hello Stacey,😁 You should listen to their song Sunday Bloody Sunday 😁
👏 Yes .. but the1983 Live at the Red Rocks version for it is far more electrifying than the studio.
I am sure this girl is very interested in the 1970s Northern Irish political shenanigans. Maybe you could link her to a collection of Ian paisley speeches. i am sure her seat will be soaking wet in minutes.
The instrumental at the end of this song is fantastic
U2 " I still haven't found what I'm looking for"..........."bad" (live aid performance) x 😊
U2 is an amazing band, and they are amazing humans. They give back.
Where the streets have no name, all I want is you, one, I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, pride (in the name of love) I could go on and on
One of my favorite rock ballads. Melancholic and thoughtful.
This song/album propelled them to superstar status. Never looked back since.
🎼🔥🔥🍀 ... these are the famous rockers from Ireland. .. they have been megastars for over 35 years.
- Rattle And Hum -
Looking forward to your discovery of U2.
YES! Do more OFFICIAL VIDEOS (of ANY artist, not just U2) as it's really different from a live performance, but really cool ART!
An Irish band with a DEEP catalog of wonderful music! Terrific reaction by you!
ANOTHER BANGER FROM U2...I LOVE THIS BAND
Somehow this song will always remind of "Friends" when Rachel sat in the window....can't remembering why though🙈😂
There is a live performance of this, were Bono pulls a girl from the crowd and sings the song lying next to her. Incredible!
My U2 favourite..
Love the 2 Guitars playing complementry but different music, especially towards the end.
Part of the sound of my 80’s childhood, I miss those times to no end.
U2 ROCKS. And Bono is a genuinely lovely person. Please check out "One" and "Vertigo" !
Love U2 I grew up listening to them.
That “whistle tone” is just The Edge pissing about 😂
Great reaction as usual Stacey .
Music is the divine way to tell beautiful, poetic things to the heart; you are a beautiful, Bright Angel letting the music flow through you and expressing how it touched your heart - so you
are the music.
They're a great band, and an excellent live band. If you have a chance, I would recommend reacting to a live version of the next U2 song you watch.
arguably U2 is the one of the biggest pop rock bands from the 80's this is one of their best, I would also recommend Mysterious Ways, I still Haven't found what I'm looking for, Sunday bloody Sunday, Where the streets have no name, One, New Year's Day and Desire. Bono is an Icon of human rights and enviornmental issues as well as a powerful frontman.
This is one of my favorite songs by U2.
Saw them on The Joshua Tree tour in 1986 at Wembley Stadium - London. No snazzy screens, or on-stage theatrics - just four musicians, playing to around 70000+ adore fans, and we sang along to ever song - for a live concert experience nothing matched it since. Now you feel its the show that is more important than the song - not then
The Joshua Tree Album is worth a listen top to bottom. The flow is nice.
U2 was the first band to play a series of concerts at The Sphere in Las Vegas starting Sep 30th last year.
U2 album All that You can’t Leave Behind.l
Spiritual through path.
The Josuah Tree, from whence this song is from, is perhaps the greatest album ever released. You cannot go wrong with any song.
I love these videos of kids discovering real music and real bands for the first time.
It amazes me kids havnt heard this before. Top 10 80s songs if not top 5 of all time
U2 are one of my favourite bands.
Great reaction, Stacey! I really enjoy seeing a younger generation appreciate music from the past.
My favourite band in my teens. Thanks for doing this. There are so many great songs to choose from.
It's by far their best commerically recognisable song.
