- What if Shino went in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc with Naruto, Neji, Shikamaru, Kiba, and Choji after the Sound 4? Could Shino beat the Sound 4? Would Shino make a difference as Kimimaro, Rock Lee, Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari arrives in the battlefield as well?
We are going to discuss how Shino would do against Kidomaru, Tayuya, Kimimaro, Jirobo, and Sakon, as well as the impact he would have in the different scenarios of him bein in the Sasuke Retrieval Arc. We will use Shino vs Kankuro and Shino vs Zaku as basis for the analysis.

Shino was about to have the best moment in his entire career during the war with Torune before the annoying Naruto clone got there with his bullshit. Kishimoto just couldnt allow any of the side characters to shine even for a moment.

Just because they hoed him like they did Lee doesn't mean he isn't a potential problem. In fact, I would say that Shino is one of the most powerful non jinchuriki in show.

If sakkon tried to enter shino the insects would reject him and eat him alive he would have probably the most horrifying death in the series
Maybe they could try to enter the body of one of the insects inside Shino? We don't have much info on how the twins invade bodies but in case that's possible then it's GGs since the moment one of the brothers try to get a limb out, Shino will burst from the inside out.
But that's assuming that they would even get close to Shino, think about the possibility when one of them is getting BUGGED or simply not discard the idea knowing that Shino is a hive man.

Shino and the Aburame are so under used in the story for the incredible potential they had.
Kishimoto could have made the Uchiha genocide more realistic by having Danzo make the Aburame Root members poison the Uchiha Shinobi (without Itachis Knowledge) with slow acting poison from those nasty Aburame bugs before Itachi went in there, so that the Uchiha cant put up an effective defense against itachi.
It would make more sense from a tactical perspective from Danzo's position, instead of trusting that a 13 year old who just awakened the MS (which we are not sure Danzo was even aware of) could take out the entire clan cleanly)
It would lend more credence to the itachi as tragic hero retcon too, than the "he was sad about it" bullshit.
I mean yeah it would make more sense- strictly speaking- but it won't be as dramatic and tragic...
There not under used, 9/10 if they are there the fight is decided it’s just do you die immediately or slowly. It’s actually quite comical cause if I’m remembering something, majority of the root/anbu are filled with Aburame clan members

It needed to be Itachi. Having an entire clan wiped out over night would cause every other clan and even civilians to rise up AGAINST the higher ups and start their own coup. They needed a fall guy, and painting Itachi as a psychopath who murdered his clan and fled fits the bill. Uchiha's are still respected and they go down in history as an unfortunate tragedy rather than traitors.
Danzo needed itachi to kill the Uchihas because he is an Uchiha as well, if Anbu were found responsible to that masacre, people of Konohagakure would loose faith and fear the leaf high-ups, plus that could turn he Aburame clan into the new "Uchiha" as the clan feared by the whole village for their powers and cold blood. The leaf would be incredible vulnerable in that scenario, that's why Itachi accepted the mission. Also, it's hard to imagine anyone exept an Uchiha could walk around the Uchiha quarters after they were isolated, and right before a coup, I'm sure they had people on guard with sharingan, and Itachi went in, well, because he is itachi Uchiha.
Also granted , we are talking about the "Chunin exam" Shino. While everyone from the group of 5 got stronger POST Chunin exams , we dont know what Kishi would give Shino have him went to the mission. Perhaps more OP insects , a summoning jutsu for bigger and better insects , better tracking insects , or hell HE BECOMES A KAMEN RIDER LOL
he would get those insects that set traps, so suddenly a hole appears on the ground and a big ass ant bites you.
Honestly he just needs to buff himself. He doesn't really need better insects he just needs to get better at using him. Lets be honest, most people at the chunin exam would have lost to him. The hell would they have done in that situation? Shino is honestly broken vs. most people unless they are strong enough to overpower the bugs which would be kage level opponents.
@@Delimon007 Or they're fast enough to pummel him, or have ranged attacks to destroy his swarm. So Sasuke, Lee, Gaara, Neji and Naruto would beat him, with Kiba in the maybe category.

He could use flies as a makeshift sharingan or byakugan, or attach quicker insects on his body to make him quicker and improve his taijutsu.
Its really hard to counter "My insects swarm over you and bite you and drain your chakra" None of the Sound 4 have good speed or defensive feats, so they would just get swarmed.
Almost the entire Sasuke Retreval Arc team was entirely Taijutsu based, all of their plans generally became "hit the enemy really hard"
Literally ANYONE with an alternate strategy would beat the sound 4 and Shino has that alternate way.

@@AlteredNova04 How long can he maintain the armor and does it drain his chakra while doing so? Remember he put it on to counter neijis taijutsu and then let it drop off him.
I think he needs to maintain it in order for its effectiveness to work, which costs chakra, else he would put it on all the time
@TheCrowing14321 I don't know how long he can maintain it for, I'm just pointing out that he does actually have a technique that could probably save him from just getting swarmed and one-shot by bugs. I think his webs would be an even better defense, though. He could probably surround himself with thin, nigh-invisible webs, and a lot of the bugs would get stuck and trapped trying to reach him. I'm also not sure if Shino has any way to dodge or block his arrows reliably.
Basically, while I agree that Shino would easily defeat the other 3, I think he would struggle against Kidomaru, and maybe even lose.
Jirobo and Kidomaru do have defensive feats though. Jirobo tanks 2-pilled Choji without getting a scratch, can the bugs pierce this durability? Kidomaru has his armor.
Couldn’t Shino have just placed an insect on Naruto to be able to track him? I imagine he would place a tracker beetle on everyone in the squad just as a precaution.
Also, great video! You covered some minor plot points that I (and I feel many other people too probably) took for granted, which does change the landscape of how the events go down.

Shino had so much potential to be one of greatest. I personally think that it is the character most underutilised in the whole anime.
Shino, Tenten and Lee are probably the holy trinity of characters with incredible potential that just get squandered
They really tried to boost side character screentime with the filler arcs, but that goes about as far as you can throw it obviously

As a joke, you should do a video on how Sakura, Ino, Hinata and Tenten all together would fare against each member of the Sound 4 individually.
The Tayuya match up would be funny since she can summon 3 other teammates to "even" the game.

I'd say a way less powerful version of Gaara, but with slightly more hax. Shino's limited to the amount of insects his body contains. Gaara has an entire gourd of it, and by the SRA, he could create it from the ground iirc. Shino's bugs don't have any speed feats either to say they could tag people as fast as Sasuke or Lee.
@@VTWS yeah i dunno why the academy just puts all 3 different types of ability to a genjutsu master lol. The only common thing those 3 shares are their tracking ability. (Byakugan, insects and smell tracking). Other than that they just had nothing in common, i guess that's why kishi just made kurenai pregnant and disappear from the series because he messed up badly lol. With ino shika cho they have that combination, gai's team all share the taijutsu traits and kakashi's team just left him for the sannin lol. But these 3 just got abandoned i guess or they just learnt nothing from kurenai and instead learnt more from their own families lol.
He could clog up Tayuya's flute, keeping it from making sound. For Kidomaru, they could eat through webs. Theoretically.
Shino if developed and had accesss to all types of insects could’ve been one of the most op characters ever, some bugs are far better trackers than dogs and some carry deadly poisons and some can cause severe pain when it bites and that’s all in the real world, imagine how it would be in a world where they get enhanced by Chakra and be given abilities
I believe kishi only pushed shino aside after realizing how hard it is to draw him fighting with a swarm of bugs. Shino was cool calm and calculated, he literally had the craziest win at the chunin exams.
I like adding Shino to the team instead of replacing Kiba because that moment when Kiba busted out the Cerberus it was just so sick. Really wish the Konoha 11 kept on getting more and more abilities and new tech like that. He's also one of my favorite characters, so it'd be a real shame missing out on that moment.
I think Kishi kept Shino out of the arc because he's just like a hard counter to the Sound 4 and would have made it so easy and changed the outcome he wanted, unless he just found a way to cheaply take him out during their mission.
They could've just made Kidomaro counter Shino's insects. It's a known fact that spiders hunt and eat insects as a part of the food chain. It's not a bullshit excuse since it correlates with nature and it's an opportunity for growth.
This could be Shino's motivation to breed and develop insects that fight back against arachnids. Or heck, have him use arachnids as a part of his Jutsu.
Honestly I think Shino would’ve battled Kidomaru instead of Neji and we could’ve seen bug guy vs bug guy lol
neji is the only person who could cut the chakra threads and is kidomaru's counter.

It wouldn't even matter if Shino could beat the Sound Four or not.
All Shino has to do is get one tiny insect on either Sasuke or the Sound Four and then just have his insects track them to Orochimaru's hideout
and have that information returned to the Hidden Leaf. It's like recon and intelligence gathering is vastly underutilized in the Ninja world of Naruto.
Shino is just the most broken character. He stacks up against almost any character. I think that's why the author didn't get into the clan much. If you think about his power, it is just too powerful. It's a direct counter to everything that has chakra, or is made of flesh.
Only maybe lava release would melt the bugs.
Also his bugs could easily sap a Susanoo since they literally eat chakra and unlike a flesh and blood summon, Susanoo is pure chakra
Well in the anime he was defeated by Mecha Naruto's cluster bombs, since his bugs only ate the outer bomb
How fast is he? How fast are his bugs? If they're slow, then he's toast against most of the mid-high tiers.

@@aceclover758 They should definitely be able to increase in speed. But there's nothing to suggest that, in this time, they did so.
Shino has never lost a fight, so Kishimoto knew he couldn't let Shino go with them for dramatic tension. But it still would have had a good plot moment for Shino. He couldn't catch up to Sasuke after his fight with Kankuro, but that would push him to catch up this time around.
Also, this made me realize two of my three favorite characters (Shino & Tenten) were both left out of this mission. At least Shikamaru got a lead role in it, but alas... Shino is too strong to be allowed on screen and Tenten is too fast to even be seen. Either that or Kishi knew she'd out rank the other girls for cutest character and had to keep her hidden to give the others a chance.
Yeah Kishi probably stopped using Shino because he realized he made him too broken for a side character, and we all know Tenten is too OP, but seriously we got all the same favs, Shikamaru was great throughout the series, Shino was disappointing after part 1, and Tenten was disappointing the whole series lol
I wish Kishimoto made a mini series for every significant side ninja. That way, we could see all of the unused, but powerful characters use their abilities to the max

Shino is very powerful and I wish he had more fights because insect fighting is unique and adds a layer of intelligence and strategy in his fights
What really interests me is what would happen to Sasuke when he gets brought back. Tsunade believes in Naruto, without a doubt, and would try to reason with him, but I would think Danzo would have tried to take him out to prevent Orochimaru from getting him like in Shippuden.
I think it's funny how adding one member to the team pretty much grants the now Konoha 6 the ability to stomp everyone.
Also, I think Kakashi would be incredibly grateful to the team leader too in that situation (Shikamaru) and develop somewhat of a liking to him due his qualities being quite similar to himself at his best.
The biggest question in a Shino fight is how well people can clear away a whole cloud of insects and the sound 4 doesn’t really have much of a way to do that. You can’t typically punch an insect cloud. Only one with a chance is spider boy thanks to being able to summon the baby spiders that might be able to wrap up Shino’s bugs because, y’know, that is what spiders do
However if said bugs can eat the chakra in the webs to break them then that will be a problem

Short answer: Yes. Shino could probably solo them all together including Kimimaro. Thats why Kishimoto had to keep him out of the arc. I mean theres endless possibilities with Aburame bugs. We already saw him using them stealthy to drain chakra or clog chakra etc. And thats just what we've seen. Imagine he could use some bugs as chakra bombs or full body paralyze. At that point he could verry well be at the power level of a jonin. Thats why in Boruto he even got nerfed
I agree except for kimimaro. He isn't dumb and is extremely fast. If he can doge sand, he can dodge bug clouds.
Shino is powerful but he ain't soloing them all together even if we ignore Kimimaro.
@@Naul6892 even beating spider boy is a stretch. The webs will be useless because the bugs will crawl up them and drain the chakra, but the armor is gonna be a problem.

The bugs could be a good way to tag the sound 4 and follow where they go making things easier.
Though if he had to take a fight I'd say tayuya or sakon would be best in a stall game as shino could easily set up especially in the Forrest if the sound ninja in the arena got jumped when nothing covered shino
I was waiting for a video like this, I always said that they woulda got Sasuke back easily if Shino was there, I think Kishi left him out because he realized that too, I think Kishi realized he made Shino too broken and decides to stop using him, that’s probably why they joke about him being forgotten all the time too.
Probably but I think there are plausible ways to make him less broken. Doing things like limiting the amount of bugs he can use, making the bugs very chakra-costly, making the bugs' chakra absorption take longer for stronger ninja, etc. These could go a long way to make a battle where theoretically Shino should win low-diff into a struggle for him.

I might be wrong, but i think Kimimaro can buff his defense to the point where Shino can't do much. If he keeps a layer of bones on his skin there is no way for the insects to bite, and drain his chackra. This only works if Kimimaro can protect his eyes though
In the manga he opens up his flesh. That sounds horrifying to imagine bugs crawling under his fingers and spine.

For Kankuro to beat Ukon in a 1v1 while standing INFRONT of him and not hiding, tells me shino would’ve wiped the floor with those guys.
He beat a tired Ukon, not both of them together at their best.

People also forget due to his bugs being immune to genjutsu, they can always break Shino out of it.
As I was thinking about it before and after watching the video Shino just matches so well against the sound four in individual fights... I thought of a theory.
Perhaps Shino who normally doesn't show emotion is so visibly hurt by not being part of the team, that maybe that was a secret nod from Kishimoto himself sort of giving a hint or jab to the readers who may have wanted to have seen Shino the secret "Yeah he would have been VERY useful in those fights that's why he wasn't included ;)"
Ofc they would succeed. Remember their first meeting with sound four? When Shikamaru set a trap, but into another trap. Shino is perfect shinobi to counter this case, it would a trap inside another trap inside another trap. In other words things would go rough for sound four from the start, they would have to use cursed seals early to break out...
Shino was cracked all through the original Naruto. Then they turned him into a joke from Shippuden onwards. He probably could've given them all a run for their money

Like, Shino is just ONE Aburame, he is a genius on his own right?, heck yeah, but still, imagine the scenario of ''What if the Uchihas din't stop the attack and Itachi was on their side''
Short result : They would be destroyed, it would not be a war by any means, it would be a full on massaquer on all Uchihas by the : Aburames, Hyuugas, Akimichis and Naras, mostly, the Aburames that probably are immune to the most of the genjutsus and they cannot have their insects copied.

Sauske retrieval is one of the greatest arcs in anime history, saying it's just one of the best of the franchise is underselling it

Basically the reason Shino wasn’t involved isn’t because he was on a mission with his dad, it’s because Kishimoto realized that if he was involved his bug justu would have just completely broke the story.
So in a nutshell Jirobou has no chance, Kidomaru might snacks on Shino's insects, Tayuya's flute would get clogged, Sakon or Ukon would be traumatized by becoming one with Shino and Kimimaro is basically fighting discount Gaara with bugs
I feel like if it played out the same. Shino would have stayed behind to fight kimimaru. And Lee and Garra would have been there to back him up later. I think kimimaru was just the strongest there, even more so than sasuke, and if it wasn't for his illness, he would have killed Lee and Garra. So I don't think shino would have changed anything

If Shino replaces Kiba, nothing changes.
If it's a 6-man team, then that means Naruto doesn't waste time against Kimimaro and catches up to Sasuke early, but he still loses that fight so nothing changes. Unless Lee or Gaara somehow catch up to them at the Valley of the End, in which case... nothing would change either as Sasuke would win a one-on-one fight with either of them at that point.
Then wouldn't that be a 2 vs 1 or even 3 vs 1 fight i doubt sasuke can win against everyone alone if he couldn't even win that easily against a damaged naruto
@@jersont.3339 I'm assuming Sasuke would have already won before Lee or Gaara arrived because Naruto would have caught up with him earlier due to him not needing to fight Kimimaro, but if any of them do show up mid fight then yes, Sasuke wouldn't be able to win a 2v1.
@@KaoruMzk actually, sasuke was still inside the drum when naruto fought kimimaro and immediately as he got out and left the drum, lee appeared and saved naruto. Hence why naruto was able to catch up and fought sasuke. So nope, sasuke won't win anything yet and just got 2 v 1 against either naruto + shino or naruto + lee.
I personally think that even if they retrieved sasuke and brought back to leaf. The stubborn ass sasuke would be again try to escape the village bc of the will of his brother and seeking greater power thru revenge. ALSO DO NOT FORGET Orochimaru seal!!
On another note i think that even if sasuke would be brought back to the village maybe DANZO would be the one who would want to experiment on Sasuke.
You should cover what danzo is, and how powerful he is (politics), as the hidden villain in the story (spoilers), how he transformed his hands thru eyes and wtf he is doing in the underground of leaf village

Shino vs Jirobo isn't as one-sided as you think. Unlike Choji who can destroy Jirobo's earth prison, Shino has no counter against it. Also, you assume that Shino's insect one-shot everyone. Not necessarily, the problem is we don't know how fast he drains people of chakra. But FWIW Konan fought all the Aburame's clan for hours and she didn't seem to have been drained of even a fraction of her chakra.
Konan could probably just shed whatever part of herself a bug latched onto - very bad matchup for the clan.

Yeah the thing here is how much chakra those CM2 folks have. Not sure how that kind of evil chakra and/or nature energy works with the bugs, either. Maybe they'd just keep fighting with the bugs on, or drain nature energy from the bugs, or whatever. Jirobo MIGHT be too dumb to notice a bug is sitting on him though.

Regarding Jirobo vs Shino, we have to remember that Jirobo has the ability to drain chakra either with that rock dome or, in CM2, with just his hands. He still probably loses most of the times, but we don't know how would his ability interact with the insects. Could he actually drain the insects' chakra? With just his hands or through his whole skin? If he is able to "eat" their chakra, Shino pretty much loses. But Shino could hide or flee, I don't see Jirobo killing him. Yet, Shino is pretty smart, so he has that advantage.
Imagine Jirobo being the only member of the Sound 4 with a chance to beat Shino despite being the weakest overall just because he is a hard counter to him (in CM2, as tbf I'm assuming he can't drain chakra by just touching the opponent in weaker forms).
I’ve always felt that most of the time in Naruto (especially part 1) Shino got left out because Kishimoto couldn’t figure out how to make him not OP against the enemy types presented.

I feel like everyone is forgetting Shino’s character and the specific events of this arc… the most logical course of events is the 6 genin are stopped by jirobo and Shino being the guy who likes to chill and support from the background will let Choji stay and fight jirobo, and Shino would continue to do this for all the weaker sound 4 members until Naruto and Shino make it to Kimimaro. We gotta remember that in the original timeline Naruto fought with Kimimaro a bit before Lee shows up to let Naruto move on, so in this timeline it is in character for Shino to take on the strong Kimimaro to let Naruto go on to fight Sasuke. Then Lee shows up to save Shino, and Shino and Lee still can’t beat Kimimaro because Gaara and Lee couldn’t even do it. Then Gaara shows up and tbh the three of them might beat Kimimaro before his sickness takes him out and they could rush to Naruto’s aid, but we gotta consider the original timeline, in which Naruto vs Sasuke starts while Lee and Kimimaro are fighting, and in this timeline, Naruto vs Sasuke starts before Lee even arrives most likely, meaning that even if the 3 beat Kimimaro, Naruto vs Sasuke would be over and nothing really changes.
I don’t see why Naruto vs Sasuke would start any earlier with Shino being included. If the idea is for him to stay back with Kimimaro then he’s just replacing Naruto’s attempts to fight but Lee still arrives at the same time and so does Gaara, only difference is Shino might actually be able to push Kimimaro more and make him exhaust himself a bit faster

To be fair,Shino would definitely provide a greater tactical and faster solution against Kimimaru,since Shino’s bugs would be able to catch Kimimaru off guard in the middle of fighting a drunken Lee,who’s already unpredictable.
So Shino would catch Kimi from behind (Shino’s bugs can catch even jonin) while fighting drunken Lee and his chakra would be a good bit drained and he’d have to somehow block out Shino’s bugs with his bones,but his chakra would already be greatly dampened and he’d be tagged by Lee probably,so with that,his sickness might kick in even faster
Kidomaru is the only sound ninja that might beat shino. And it's entirely because of that armor. Shino's insects wouldn't be able to get through it. He would need to create an opening. And it's hard to do that on an opponent like kidomaru.
His spiders should also be able to eat Shino's bugs.

@@258Loures Kidomaru has a giant spider summon that can birth other spiders of many sizes, no way Shino can have a bug powerful enough to eat all of them at that point in the story.

A factor you forgot is that the cure mark is a copy of jugo's bloodline ability to passively absorb nature energy and make sage chakra. So the chakra boost they get is safe chakra, which tends to turn the people who absorb it and don't know how to control it to stone. So if shino tries to absorb their chakra in stage 1 or 2 chances are his bug will petrify before they can make a noticeable dent

It's similar but it's not the same. There no reason to think people would turn to stone if absorbed. I honestly believe that the curse mark don't have enough nature energy to make the transformation.

If you are talking about the curse mark sage chakra, there might be a chance it is diluted enough to have no affect, especially since transplanted kekkei genkai are not as powerful as a born user.

I'm pretty sure they passively build up a well of nature energy and capped at just enough to trigger the transformation for a certain amount of time. They drain this energy then have to wait till they build it up again. Never enough to turn to stone. But I suppose if someone with a tiny amount of Chakra absorbed nature energy from someone with large Chakra stores it could happen.

Shino have some of the best feats in all of early naruto, never losing a fight and having great battle IQ. Even in shippudden he’s undefeated and has beaten a resurrected kage with no difficulty. They would’ve retrieved sasuke in seconds. Plus his bugs drain chakra.

Damn, Shino and Fuu almost interacted in the second Chuunin exams in the filler. He was able to detect her status as a jinchuriki when she breathed on one of his scout bettles. Their dynamic as people misunderstood by what they hold inside them, their insect affinity, and contrasting personalities (Reserved Shino and Outgoing Fuu) and appearances (Pale skin, hidden eyes, dark hair, and very concealing clothes VS Tanned skin, vibrant eyes, bright hair, and very revealing clothes) would have been super interesting.
It could have been one of the coolest and well thought out romances in Naruto that would have HAD to end in tragedy, as Fuu needed to die for Akatsuki's plans. I think it's implied that Kakazu, the rogue Taki nin, took her, the Taki Jinchuriki, down.
Imagine Shino teaming up with Shikamaru to take on the Zombie Duo, one to avenge his Sensei, the other his only love. Plus, the threads vs bugs fight would have been amazing, imagine Shino about to lose to Kakazu, cornered by all his masks, only for Shino to reveal his insects had infested each body and ordered them to eat out the hearts. It would give Shino, this stoic, stoney character a foil in Kakuzu, a glimpse into what he could be if he lost his humanity. This would be the only time we see Shino express strong emotions, maybe this is when he uses the forbidden nano beetles and sheds his cloaks and glasses, and we see the raw pain in his expression as he seeks to avenge Fuu and rid the world of the (ironically) heartless Kakuzu

The original Naruto really painted Shino as such a powerful and resourceful ninja even from 12 yrs old. You have made me realize how much he was slept on in the series and how he really could have shined, I think he is actually one of the top 3 strongest in the konaha 12 maybe too 2 since sasuke is the only one who has the sharingan (to spot the bugs that are attacking him) and a wide area of effect attack in his fireball

I know Boruto is all about the next generation, but Shino, Lee, Hinata, Ino, Shikamaru and Choji realistically all have great matchups for the otsusuki. If you’d like to say choji is too big and too slow alright. If you want to say their minds are too complex or different for ino’s mind transfer to work, okay. But their weaknesses are physical attacks. Lee should be as useful in the 7th gate as Sasuké’s chakra-less ass. And shino’s bugs like Gaara’s sand can’t be absorbed.
In the match up against Jirobo, you didn't mention that Shino has a way to instantly beat the guy. Jirobo needs to keep his hands on the rock to use Earth Prison Dome. And the walls of the dome clearly have gaps. Shino can just order his bugs to exit the dome and swarm Jirobo, starting by his hands. Jirobo won't have time to activate his curse mark, and the Sasuke Retrieval team doesn't even need to leave Choji behind.
Shino's bugs feel like the perfect counter to the Curse Mark, either keeping his opponents from being able to activate it or depleting their chakra to the point they can barely maintain it.
Well, they almost got the Sasuke, so of course adding any other member remotely capable would have result in bringing Sasuke back. He walk alone to Orochimaru, with no Chakra and wounded, it was enough for somebody to get there and take back Sasuke after he was weakened by Naruto. But the story was meant for Sasuke to go to Orochimaru, that's why no jonin get there, why Kakashi was late, and why those members were chosen. I can just guess Koshimoto would change the abilities of one of the sound 4 if it were Shino instead of Kiba there, to get another close match. Maybe it would be revealed that the guy who can split is imune to poisons for some reason, and that the cursed seal (which add natural energy, its a form of artificial weak sage-mode) counter the Chakra consuming insects, thus Shino would have to fight in taijitsu and only use insects for clones, tracking, diversión, shield etc.

Well, there are ultrasonic sounds that kill pests, so maybe Tayuya has a special justsu that uses these ultrasonic sounds which act as an insect counter. If I was a writer, I would do something like that and maybe have a coordinated attack injure Shino before they all get separated.
Or maybe when Kiba smells the Sand Siblings in the area and was put on edge. Shino volunteers to do some recon as a fellow tracker. They now have the manpower to make the attempt, but this would remove Shino from the fights.
I would put Shino in the squad, but as a secret Ace in the hole that Shikamaru kept back. To counter Shino on one side, I would probably add a much weaker version of Jugo that would show up with Kimmimaro. He would be the one to fight Shino and would come close ro killing him, but Temari and Kankuro would show up to assist after their battles to force Jugo into a retreat.
I'm more interested in how Shinos bugs would react to the nature energy being drawn into the curse marks.

I feel like Shino staying behind and fighting Jirobo with Choji would've allowed them to win decisively... then both of them could move forward together and team up 3v1 on the next enemy... 4v1 on the next... and so on and so forth. Eventually they would almost all come upon an exhausted Sasuke and drag him back to the village.
Shino was low key a top 4 member if the konaha 12 in part 1. He was super strong and got done so dirty by kisimoto the rest of the way
bro, if Shino went on the Sasuke Retrieval Mission, he would have brought his unique bug-based jutsu to the table. It would have been interesting to see how he contributed to the mission.
You know what would have been really effective?
Having the party not split up every time they encountered a sound nin.
Think about this for a moment.
The Sound Nin had a dramatic head start in getting away.
The Team had no idea where they were.
The Sound Nin have been long distance sprinting this entire Team.
Yet, somehow, the Team caught up to them, multiple times, through Kiba.
In my opinion it would seem to me that distance and obfuscation will not help the Sound Nin get away. If this were the case the Team would not have been able to catch up to them in the first place.
So now we have multiple 5v1s.
Because it's a 5v1 the fights should dramatically quicker. The team should also be able to pull these victories off with less expended resources, making them less fatigued for the other battles.
Additionally, since they are traveling together, their chances of retrieving Sasuke goes up.
After all they do not know if the Sound Nin or not. If they do, and the Team keeps living members might, they might be opening themselves up to a future curb stomp.
They also have more resources to use to ensure they actually beat foe.
They don't know if their left behind members will win their matches. If they don't those Sound Nin could catch back up and hurt the Team.

Idk, maybe you have him backing up Kiba? Sakon and Ukon are 2 basically, so the sound 4 are actually the sound 6 with Kimimaro and Ukon. He is Kiba's teammate after all, they should work fine together, as for Kankuro, make him retrieve Neji and Choji. I honestly think the fact that a 12/13 year old was required to go on a mission with his jounin clanhead father is far more impressive than going into the retrieval arc. Shino was done dirty in Shippuden, he would've really been a good way to give more depth to the Anbu and characters like Yamato, Danzo and Sai had the author make him join the organization, that would also explain his lack of action in the story. It's the same thing with the Byakugo seal retcon of Boruto, instead of having Sakura say the new info about the jutsu, they had Mitsuki and Sarada, why lol? Back to my Shino in the Anbu comment, Kakashi didn't really help with the depth of the Anbu (in canon), use Shino, a stablished character to do so since he has the requirements to join would be clever and organic.

If Shino was added, I like to think things play out exactly how they originally did, but Shino is still with Naruto when Lee shows up, so they leave Kimimaro to Lee and run after Sasuke together. But as soon as Naruto starts yelling about their friendship, Shino is just like “A lot of intense personal feelings between you guys here. I’m just gonna step back and let you two have this, this seems important.” And just does nothing the whole time.
That fact that shino was sulking about the retrieval mission shows how all of their friendship grew since they left the academy. Man was jealous and angry at the same bc he wanted help his friends as well

Without going into the video (might edit this) here is how I'd imagine certain situations to go:
Shino when entrapped with the others
- Uses his Chakra eating Bugs and disperses them among the rock which will cause it to crumble due to the overload of chakra needed to keep it up again because them insects be many and nasty.
The other Sound 4 Ninjas will still do the same escape but won't travel that far this time. Allowing two people to stay behind with not so much sensory skill needed to follow up after leaving 1 or 2 behind to fight Jirobo.
Shino against Jirobo:
- My estimation in this would be scenario would be, that Jirobo does not know about the bugs and will confusedly slowly die in this battle even with curse mode. Shino will get a beating in curse mode though.
- My more accurate estimation would be that Choji and Neji/Kiba (one of two tracker/sensory) would stay behind and this would cause an even harder beating with both surviving enough to move up to the others after winning against Jirobo. I can also imagine that Shino would leave some surprise bugs that could attack Jirobo unexpectedly.
Shino against Kidomaru
- Shino would outplay hard on this one. Again this comes down to the feats of how vulnerable Shino would be to the Curse Mark Arrow Shot of Kidomaru. Otherwise I can easily see the same reason Kidomaru lost to Neji would happen with Shino but with bugs instead of a Hakke Kushou.
Against the other 3
- He will not fight against anyone here but Tayuya.
- He will outplay once again with bugs in the dense forest
- He has been shown to be very resistant to Genjutsu. His bugs will probably help him break free (The only Genjutsu we see affecting him has been the Infinite Tsukuyomi)
- He will have run out of Chakra at that point and will be unable to continue fighting against Kimimaro or Sakon/Ukon since he wasn't able to consume all the Chakra due to the nature of the mission.
- Those two will have an even harder fight since the Chakra reserves of the Konoha Nin are higher this time with always one 2 v 1 possible at their end.
Again this is highly speculative since Part 1 Shino is still a big mystery character in terms of bug abilities compared to Shippuuden and his damage resistance apart from the feats shown vs Kankuro/Zaku
Shino diffs 3 members of the sound 4 pretty easily. The only argument for Jirobo is his earth prison technique, but Shino’s bugs drain anything that has chakra, not just flesh. This is evidenced by when the bugs ate the chakra out of some explosive tags to make them rendered ineffective. Jirobo’s dome has chakra infused to strengthen it, Shino’s bugs eat the chakra and then they bust out easily. Otherwise Jirobo is easy to take out. Then there’s the other issue, Kidomaru. Like I said before, Shino’s bugs can drain chakra out of constructs, however Kidomaru’s advantage is not his armor, but his stealth and faster attacks. If Shino doesn’t immediately get at least one of his bugs on Kidomaru, then Kidomaru can hide and snipe him long range. Shino is intelligent, but this fight isn’t the 9/10 stomp that the other ones are. This is more of a 6/10 in favor of Kidomaru because of environmental factors and depending on whether or not Shino had time to get a tracking bug on him it could be a bit closer to 50/50. Kidomaru has always seemed like the most powerful sound 4 member though. And then there’s Kimimaro. We really don’t know how fast Shino is at this point in the show, so he may be speed blitzed. But if Naruto and base Lee weren’t speed blitzed immediately then I doubt Shino would be. Then it’s just a matter of getting his bugs on Kimimaro. Since Kimimaro is primarily a close range fighter, and he won’t know Shino’s abilities, there’s actually a fair chance Shino catches him in a bit of a trap. So if that is the case then the question is how fast can Shino drain Kimimaro, or how much more chakra does Kimimaro have than a relatively average ninja at this point in the story. Shino is able to incapacitate Kankuro (not that Kankuro is an average ninja) pretty much as soon as he has his bugs on him. It takes around 3-10 seconds to drain him of enough chakra that he can’t move. If Kimimaro has around 10x as much chakra as Kankuro (which would actually be kinda generous) then it would take 30-100 seconds to drain him of chakra completely. Any attempts to get the bugs off of him would likely be futile, as Kimimaro doesn’t have any known counters to the bugs (just bones wouldn’t work they can still be drained and are unlikely to kill the bugs). Curse mark early changes the game, but curse mark late only slightly helps. Curse mark pulls in nature chakra automatically giving a pseudo sage mode (based off of Jugo’s kekkei genkai), however due to this you need your own chakra to mix with the nature chakra. If Kimimaro is low on his own chakra before using the curse mark, then he likely only has seconds before dying. He could still beat Shino in this time, but it’d be difficult. Depending on circumstances, Kimimaro wins this 1v1 fight 7/10 times
The thing we gotta remember every single person who participated in the sasuke retrieval arc was stronger the chinium exam except for Lee. We gotta give Shino a power boost.

I worked this out in a fanfiction of mine involving two original characters plus Haku going after Sasuke as well, but AFTER the gennin were already dispatched. My conclusion was that Black and White Zetsu would get involved to assist in helping Sasuke escape, which Sasuke would take advantage of because he actually DID want to leave. So there would have been no stopping him. Even my two OG characters would have had their hands full with Zetsu and would not have been able to capture Sasuke even after his battle with Naruto. And I think this is how Kishimoto would have written it in order to force an outcome where Sasuke leaves to train under Orochimaru.
As for Shino joining in, they might succeed in retrieving Sasuke, despite him wanting to leave. It would depend on them getting the coffin back before Sasuke could emerge though. Once he's out of it, there's no catching him, as the Zetsu factor would come into play. But in theory, if Shino were to stay behind with Choji and help him, the match would have concluded faster and the two of them would have been able to move on to help Neji. This would then snowball toward Kiba and Shikamaru until they finally caught up to Tayuya who would not have been able to keep the coffin away from them. Kimimaro would have arrived too late to intervene as the squad would have been returning to the Leaf with the coffin. Lee would meet up with them as well. Kimimaro would then face the same problem the squad had with the Sound 4, with one or two members hanging back to block Kimimaro while the lead escaped with the coffin.
At 1st: I always liked Sasuke & I was right all along. I'm glad I chosen Shino on my favorite character list.😊
I would sell my soul to get a spinoff manga just about the Aburame clan ngl, cause besides the Uchiha they are the most interesting clan in the leaf village in my opinion ofc.
Shino vs. Jirobo is pretty straightforward, no discussion there.
There's a lot of fanfics that posit that Kidomaru is from a Spider-theme Clan that got destroyed by the Aburame during the Ninja Wars, much like Suzumebachi and her Bee-themed Kamizuru Clan from the fillers. Kidomaru's skin tone also indicates his clan might be from Kumogakure, much like the Kamizuru Clan comes from Iwagakure. It's a fun idea that each Hidden Village has an insect-themed Ninja Clan, just like each Hidden Village has their own Jinchuriki, just another part of them Ninjutsu Arms Race Cold War shtick. Definitely a missed opportunity for an interesting thematic fight and worldbuilding there. I like Neji vs Kidomaru, but frankly it would pale in comparison to Kidomaru vs Shino's potential family feud vendetta match. I think Shino could win this, but he'd be only slightly better than Neji was.
Tayuya was able to put Shikamaru in a tight spot, so I wouldn't count her out of potentially winning against Shino. Cause Shino's insects are overpowered, but Shino himself isn't necessarily a PHYSICAL power house or very fast. Those Doki Summons hit pretty fucking hard, and Tayuya was smart enough to place Shikamaru in checkmate before Temari came save his ass. Hard to say who's smarter between Shikamaru and Shino, though Shino's advantage is that he's cold-blooded and not lazy like Shikamaru.
Uh, your logic on Sakon here is forgetting a crucial point: Sakon and Ukon have a Kekkei Genkai that breaks down anyone's body they come in physical contact with. Given the crazy shit we see Kabuto pull using their Demon Brothers Kekkei Genkai later in Shippuden, I think Sakon ironically would be a death trap to any Aburame Bug that touched their body. Kankuro's advantage is that he uses non-organic puppets. Also, again, Shino isn't exactly the best physical fighter. I think Shino COULD win, but he'd be carried home by Kankuro afterwards, cause Sakon was leading the Sound Four after Kimimaro's illness took him out of the team for a reason.
Yeah... Shino's my favorite Konoha 12 character, but Kimimaro would massacre him. Kimimaro TANKED Lee and Gaara. Shino's good, but again he isn't anywhere near Lee's level of martial skill, and Gaara's Sand Control definitely overpowers the insects in many ways (example: Gaara can literally turn any battlefield he's in into a desert, whereas Shino could run out of Insects). We never see canon-Shino pull any insane Ultimate Jutsu stunts like those from the Ultimate Ninja Storm games as a Genin, but most of Gaara's insane Ultimate Jutsu from those games are easily feasible even pre-Shippuden. And Kimimaro's lungs were the only reason Gaara didn't get the Vlad Dracul treatment. Kimimaro takes this, sorry Shino.
