Well in a sense. The chunin exams didn't get interrupted. Sasuke would have lost to Gaara cuz its just... not possible. Like. Sasuke wouldn't have gone curse mark stage 2. Just stage 1. He didn't have the 3rd tomoe yet. And he JUST learned Chidori. Gaara would have done Sasuke in high diff with partial transformation. And Naruto and Gaara would just renact the fight that actually occurred. Either that or the exam would have stalemated the match for the sake of NOT breaking shit and potentially killing people.

I have a feeling if this happened, Shino's role would've been expanded on as he would be a fan favorite, and likely promoted alongside Sasuke and Shikamaru.
Sasuke would not have been promoted. Every fight in bracket 1 is a power fight, and the finals likely have an exhausted Sasuke versus an exhausted opponent. Sasuke would just press with raw power attacks (likely 1 or 2 fire style attacks and/or his speed) and be near the point of collapse. Since only strategic fighters were promoted in this particular exam in the source material, Sasuke isn't getting promoted.
None of the fighters had a answer to Shinos bugs maybe Gamabunta using his long range water attack other than that Sasuke dindt know genjutsu so he can't use it on the bugs, Gaara has the perfect shield but that also doesn't stop the bugs.
@glcsander Sasuke has fire style. Gaara and Naruto have more Chakra than the bugs can remove. The name of the game is getting past the bugs to get decisive blows on Shino. Temari even has a decent chance. Neji would have been in trouble.

Even if you get past the bugs Shino is no slouch at taijutsu and u would give him a favor as he wants you to be close, that way he can put the female bug on you, IMO people realy underate how broken Shinos is on the first half of Naruto and its a shame how Kishimoto used him later in Shippuden.
@glcsander why would we have this same finals participation list if Sasuke didn't get the curse seal? There would be no reason for the sound team to be sent if the invasion was canceled before the first stage. The second stage literally started the same day as the first stage. Sasuke, without the curse mark, has around 2 chidori's in him. He likely has half a dozen of his grand fireballs. He straight up beats Shino in close range before we even bring in any theft from Lee or break from the exam training. Shino is good. That isn't up for debate, but if we are talking about a finals scenario between him and Sasuke or even a fully rested match between the two of them in that arena, Sasuke has the advantage. The lack of cover doesn't help Shino in the slightest, Sasuke is faster, so it will be difficult if not impossible for him to keep range in this fight. Shino, at this point, does not have any finishers that work quickly. Shino could win, but it would take a really good play to do so against Sasuke. Naruto and Gaara, if they made it to the spot, instead shut down Shino's only win condition. Temari can keep the bugs away from her for a time and, in theory, get close to knock Shino out. His biggest issue is lack out quick knockout power without his bugs swarming the opponent and his lack of cover on this particular battle field.

To be honest, I don't think that the argument of "partial transformed Gaara lost to Sasuke/Naruto so Dosu losing to him means Shikamaru wins" is a great one, Shukaku might be the weakest tailed beast, but it STILL IS a tailed beast, practically anyone would lose to him without plot armor

Neji didn't lose to "one punch" He barely was able to pull off rotation in that last confrontation causing both their chakras to basically explode. This severely damaged both of them. Neji was on his last legs as he walked over to naruto. Hell he couldn't even keep the byakugan active. he was drained and that's when naruto delivered a blow to his chin.
Oh I thought it was cause he was out of chakra and when in that state anything can take you out. Even with my understanding of it though I hate to watch that fight because of the 1 hit KO

Think of an explosion with the nine tailed fox chakra backing it. the fact neji stood back up and walked over to naruto after tanking something like that just shows you how insanely durable he is.

Neji is barely able to walk over to naruto and can't even keep the byakugan active. Neji tanked that hit and barely came out in one piece. that's why the punch from naruto was able to finish him off. go rewatch the fight man.
Shino vs Kankuro is the most underrated fight in Naruto, it's so fucking good but both characters are relegated to the background after so sometimes even I forget it happened.
I think the one thing you overlooked with Shino vs Sasuke is that Sasuke used 2 chidoris which means his chakra tank is pretty much on E. 1 Chidoris vs Gara. 1 Chidoris vs Naruto. Shino used barely any chakra throughout his fights because of the style of his fighting. So a completely gassed Sasuke means slower movements, no fires and no chidoris. This would come down to a pure taijutsu fight. Shino is pretty much at half tank likely after his fights. In this scenario, 1 v 1 with just taijutsu, the second Sasuke closes distance, Shino overwhelms Sasuke with an insect barrage and eats what's left is Sasuke's Chakra. Shino beats Sasuke here.
Also, people underestimate Shino and think he is JUST the bugs, when he in fact is really good at Taijutsu as well. The man was a beast in Part 1 and imo he would have been a good contender for the exams, I think having him defeat Sasuke would have helped show his threat level

There's also a point that was overlooked. Okay, Sasuke is fast enough to dodge the insects, but only those he can see. Maybe a byakugan would have helped against insects trying to come from blind spots, but a sharingan wouldn't. I believe the fight would have gone like this: Sasuke closes the distance and engages into a taijutsu contest. Shino helped by his insects could possibly resist a little bit. In a pure taijutsu fight, eventually Shino loses, but in this instance he just needs to stall Sasuke enough until insects find a way to get to Sasuke. Sasuke could be able to use fire to kill some of them so I still think there's 2 ways it could end. Shino is virtually fine and healthy, but a lot of his insects die or are damaged and he withdraws simply from respect to his insects, not wanting them all to be obliterated, or Shino stalls enough for Sasuke to be be swarmed, also keep in mind Sasuke chakra is low, so there's not a lot of insects that are needed to eat Sasuke's remaining chakra, either way I'd say the fight would be 65% chances for Shino and 35% for Sasuke, but in both scenarios Sasuke is pretty much at his limits, while Shino is barely phased.
One thing you missed is that Sasukes speed is attained by using his chakra. I think i remember lee said that he was as fast as lee but it consumed a lot of energy. So by the time he fought shino, Sasuke wouldnt be able to spam rock lee speed. Thats also adding the chakra his sharingan uses, and the fact its not fully developed. In fact it was only in the final valley that Sasuke got the ability to know which one was the real naruto. So shino would use a bug clone and the moment sasuke punched shino bug clone, the bugs would grab a hold off sasuke and suck his chakra
The only person ever shown to see through the clone jutsu was Madara, and some people think it could be one of his MS abilities (seeing through illusions or something to that effect). For anyone else, they mostly just have to guess or if their eyes are fast enough (like Sasuke in that fight), they can see which Naruto is real by tracking his movement since he makes clones out in the open

Dosu ended up being the weakest member of his team, seeing as how Zaku & Kin ended up as the 1st & 2nd Hokage... Speaking of which, I feel like it's not harped on enough that Orochimaru sacrificed two 12 year olds. And it was almost a WHOLE MONTH until the finals. Were Zaku and Kin sacrificed while alive? Zaku was pretty much destroyed by Shino, but Kin was probably the least injured ninja besides Dosu, Kankuro, and Temari. Was she just locked away for a whole month before the ritual sacrifice? That's a crazy dark situation no matter which way you paint it.

He had plenty of options before sacrificing his own people. Shiore's team, The escorts for the Kazekage, a forest full of genin that could go missing without notice, who all signed death waivers. Orochimaru could have easily saved Zaku's arms and put him and Kin on a chunin assault team for the crush. Where every ninja matters. And Don't get me started on how stupid Kabuto was for setting up dosu to be killed by gaara was. What if he went on a rampage it was a full moon and in a populated city. How did nobody wake up. Kabuto would have ruined Orochimaru's plans.

With Sasuke vs Shino, obviously Sasuke would win if they were both fresh. But after his fight with Garra and Naruto. Due to his fatigue he would lose. You forget to consider and mention that Shino doesn’t have to send his insects to Sasuke straight up. Due to Temari all his insects are already scattered all over the arena, some even in the tunnels that Naruto dug. Unless Sasuke has a fire tornado that that will cleanse the whole arena, Sasuke won’t be able to dodge anything. Shino easy victory.
Shino nearly died in his 1v1 against konkuro, I don't even think that shino would have beaten both Konkuro and Temari let alone win vs them both and be in any better condition than Sasuke.
I didn't even think about that. And it would definitely fit the character and themes in part 1 where you have to be 10 steps ahead of the opponent. Shino would definitely win. Sasuke only knows one fire style justsu at that time, being fireball jutsu. And several characters were able to dodge that. I don't see why Shino can't.
And Sasuke already used 2 chidoris which means he's running on fumes at this point while Shinos style barely uses any Chakra. Shino stomps in this scenario.
To be fair, I kinda disagree on two points: - I don't think Neji and Lee are so far away in terms of speed. Neji's speed doesn't show much because Neji doesn't move around as much, but it's pretty much implied Neji is the strongest genin from the leaf village at that point, at least in base (he of course would lose to curse mark Sasuke, gates Lee, etc). Iircc it's even stated that Neji always beats Lee up to that point, and he wasn't surprised at all phased at all by Lee's speed (granted it wasn't a surprise for him, but I take it as he probably sparred with a weightless Lee before). Matter of fact, when Sasuke fights Naruto at the top of the hospital, he uses his Sharingan from the get go. - At this point in the story Naruto isn't a great fighter, but he already is very good with tricks. Basically every fight he wins is through underhanded (ninja, if you will), tactics. He doesn't overpower Neji, but outsmarts him. So while I'd say Sasuke should win this round, I think there is room here for a possible Naruto victory by pulling something on Sasuke. And yes, he doesn't do that in the hospital and the valley, but in those fights their animosity was much stronger. Naruto fought the way he did because he wanted to beat the shit out of Sasuke, not just win. In the chuunin exams he doesn't have reason to be that angry, so although he still wanted to prove himself I think he would try at least a few tricks on Sasuke like the one he pulled on Neji.

Yeah I agree. From what Lee implied he needed the Hidden Lotus to defeat Neji. So It's safe to assume he's at least as strong as 2nd Gate Lee. Granted sometimes move sets and compatibilities against opponents comes into play. I know even post training in a fight between Naruto and Lee, Lee's simple overwhelming power and speed likely would destroy Naruto. Meanwhile Naruto barely scraped by against Neji granted how strong the Nine tails boost made him being questionable. And of course his victory against Gaara full power pulling a W. But yeah mental and plot amp. But I still think it's fair to say between Sasuke and Lee a fight between them would definitely be in Lee's favor. Probably needing Curse mark to keep up with Hidden Lotus Lee but even then he'd really just be doing his best not to get one shot. So I guess between Rock Lee, Neji and Sasuke there's a bit of a rock paper scissors thing at play. Neji > Lee (not counting Hidden Lotus) Lee > Sasuke (not counting Curse Mark) Sasuke potentially high diffing Neji if Chidiri can get past palm rotation but honestly I have no idea. It can go either way if you ask me. Things definitely get tricky including Hidden Lotus and Curse mark. But even Neji managed to beat a Curse mark level 2 user. Granted that was after the Chunin exams but I'd imagine he hasn't gotten much stronger since then. Did Naruto get lucky against Neji? Yeah, as a fan of that fight and satisfied Naruto won I'll definitely say if Neji was more concerned with a decisive win he shouldn't have went for it immediately. His time of playing around and underestimating Naruto was a factor. Against Sasuke and more importantly Lee who he's aware how strong he is, he likely wouldn't be playing around as much.
shino is so underrated, back then i found his combat smarts nearly on lvl with shiko. he is good in planning out his moves and he uses jutsus and strategies which many people arent used to and have issues countering in advance.
The question is: Would the chunnin judges change their veredict about Naruto? (They were not impress with Neji and Naruto fight) In the original, only Shikamaru was promoted because he had shown the necessary chacteristics of a Chunnin (tactical awareness sheit). Sasuke and Shino were kinda robbed of their chances of showing their capabilities because Orochimaru. What would be the final veredict? Would they still promote Shikamaru? Would a Naruto vs Sasuke fight change their perception of Naruto?
Shikamaru would 100% be promoted, even more with an extra fight of showcase. I think Shino, Kankuro and Temari would have a good chance of being promoted, in that order. Sasuke wouldn't have the opportunity to show chunin capabilities due to him needing to rush down and overpower his opponents to win so I guess he wouldn't be promoted in the exam but would be called for an interview or a trial mission

As far as the chunnins are concerned, Sasuke used the very Sun Tzu notion of mobility so well that Gaara made a Sand shell out of fear. GG, well played, now the hypothetical chunnin platoon can easily surround Gaara. Sasuke should have been promoted. Also Naruto, he used his jounin-level clones to delay Neji and counter attack. He was somewhat competent to keep up against a fighter who everyone thought the favorite.
I don't think you're giving enough credit to how smart Naruto is in battle. In every other situation he is an idiot but he's actually capable of coming up with some pretty great strategies. I'm thinking the wind shuriken against the mist ninjas, underground uppercut against negi and sexy jutsu against Kagara . I can imagine Sasuke thinking he's about to finish off Naruto with a chidori and bam it's a shadow clone.
That was my thought exactly. How many times have we seen Naruto go against an arrogant opponent, only to blindside them at the end with a rasengan showing how strong and battle smart he ACTUALLY is. I could see it going very similarly to his fight with Negi. Also, he kinda glanced over just how much Sasuke can get under Naruto's skin. If we got pissed off Naruto with some nine tails juice vs over arrogant Sasuke without using the curse mark, I think Naruto stands could win.
He also forgets how resilient naruto is. He would definitely tire sasuke out a lot more this man has huge chakra reserves and never gives up, admittedly he did expend the most energy out of any of the fights against Neji, but he has been waiting for this opportunity to defeat sasuke in front of the whole village he isnt giving up that easily. And as you say he is a very out of the box quick thinker which throws off his opponents time and time again. Naruto does just activate the nine tails chakra when he is emotional when he is on the brink of death if sasuke lands the chidori the nine tails chakra will come out and naruto will heal and grow stronger while sasuke will only continue to grow weaker until he uses the curse seal in which case quite unfairly kakashi stops the fight but who knows they could stop the fight if the nine tails seal is weakened enough as well. I could see this going either way
Everyone underestimates Naruto's reflex speed and brute strength in BASE form. I highly doubt that Sasuke will ever land that chidori. Naruto wasn't even trying to dodge it in the valley. Sasuke relies on his Chakra to mimic what he learned from weightless Lee. That includes his speed and strength. When he ran out of Chakra while fighting gaara in the forest he couldn't stand strong against gaara's charge and got knocked back a couple times. Base Naruto without the mental amp, sent gaara flying the other direction, mid charge, with a kick to the face. If Sasuke actually hits harder than that all the time then why didn't he flexed weightless Lee's moves on him. . . oh right, it relies on Chakra cuz he copied it he didn't actually master it. If Naruto landed that kick on Sasuke's face he would be writhing in agony on the ground like Kiba. The ONLY genin capable of tanking a direct shot to the face like that (before the Sasuke retrieval arc) are Naruto, choji, gaara, and rock lee. Remember the beat down Sasuke took from itachi in the hotel. Well that was nothing compared to what Naruto dished out in the retrieval arc. Sasuke was much less durable before that and putting him against Naruto, rock Lee, or neji would make it a high difficulty fight for Sasuke .

In certain fights like the valley of the end fight Naruto wasnt fighting 100% serious for at least half the fight instead trying to talk sasuke out of leaving and that's after getting whipped by kimimaro. Even the final blow he scraped sasuke headband instead of hitting him directly on although he might have killed sasuke if he was able to scratched the headband he could've hit a vital point. Of course that was never his intention. Who knows how it would've played out if naruto came at sasuke at the intensity that sasuke 1st came out, he falcon dropped him on his head and pierced his lungs with a chidori. I am not saying any of their fights would be easy by any means just that a hypothetical naruto vs sasuke chunin exam fight could honestly go either way. I think there's a misconception about Neji's speed. Lee states that he needed the 5 gate to beat Neji, with could very well imply that Neji is indeed able to content with Lee until that stage. With then also means that naruto is way faster than you're portraiting him here. Great video nevertheless
It could also mean that neji can put up his rotation after noticing an attack from lee in 4th gate before lee can hit him which we kinda see him do against Naruto his reaction speed is a lot higher than his fighting speed so in those terms Naruto in that state would be slightly faster than 4th gate lee considering he matched neji in that attack.
Which is completely stupid, let's be real. Naruto got rolled by Lee using one hand and one leg before the first of the Chunin Exams. Scaling Naruto up to someone being able to keep up with Neji or Rock Lee in terms of speed after less than 2 months is absolutely ridiculous. Main character plot armor, nothing more and nothing less.

While I do think Sasuke would probably win, I feel like Shino’s bugs would still be a bigger issue then you let on. This was back when strats played a role in a battles outcome and Shino has had simple, but effective strats in most of his fights. Sasukes smart, but both he and Naruto have an issue with trying to brute force a situation and I feel like that by itself could bite him in the ass during this fight, especially if he’d been getting win after win. Sasuke’s best option during the fight is range. Getting close, even with his superior speed, is an all around bad idea. If he physically attacks Shino, and shino disperses into bugs, that by itself could essentially be a game over. As a small aside, at the time of Sasukes fight, I think he was also still slower then Lee was. Lee was damn near teleporting, but we see most of sasukes movements during the fight. Again, sasuke would like win. I’d ratio the fight 70/30 with Sasuke having the 70. Especially since he’s a fan favorite and has way more screen time then most of the cast. Way more feats to go on. It really makes me wish other characters would have gotten more screen time so we can really see what else they have to offer.
Exactly!! Touching Shino even once is not a bright move. You touch him once and he'll get bugs on you. Given the circumstances I'd give Shino this fight with hard difficulty
And, as another comment stated, after Temari's battle Shino's bugs are around the field, he only needs to get a female bug on Sasuke, who after fighting Gaara and Naruto is probably low on chakra
power level aside, i think it would be cool narratively to see sasuke get cocky and underestimate shino and get bit (literally) for it. Shino likely looked into sasuke and his weaknesses, and sasuke had already used 2 chidoris after the garaa fight and would be exhausted physically form the naruto fight, so he would be a lot slower and weaker. And we know saskue loves pushing his limits so him losing to shino (or at least getting close to losing) would be a cool twist.
shino can have bugs land on sasuke during taijutsu bouts and i think people forget that shino's dad has him going on missions with him. shino has done at least b-rank difficulty missions with his own father who is the leader of his clan.
Naruto would not have become chunin. The chunin proctors literally state that neither Neji nor Naruto do not have qualities to become chunin, but that they make good genin.

Sasuke would become Chunin but not Naruto. Naruto’s powers are unreliable and he isn’t skilled enough in ninja combat or stealth. Sasuke’s abilities are perfectly suited for ANBU and he’s smarter than Naruto so he would be promoted.
Great video, but using the whole “Temeri at this level” referrering to her feats against Shokamaru as her true extent of her abilities is false. She was holding back the whole time buying time for Sasuke to come to the arena and for the invasion. She lost with some smart gimmick from Shika, she never felt in danger, so she was saving all her chakra. She is hard a counter to Shino and even Shikamaru. Because she will destroy the trees and their cover. Then they would take on the full power of Ranged attacks.
I feel like the same could be said about Dosu. When we see him lose it was either in a safe for him environment with all of his pals to cover for him or curbstomp by Gaara (which can be addressed to a)factor of surprise; b)Kishimoto trying to establish Gaara as this unstoppable force of nature). But that's just me being salty that both my favorite characters at the beginning were instakilled

In shikamaru's original fight against temari, the passage of time mattered. She had to adapt to the increasing amount of shade in the arena as the day passed. If they fought later in the day, that would only be more in shika's favor with even more shade. All the shade in the world wouldn't regenerate his chakra but, he's the type to notice and exploit that arena advantage. It'd probably still be a dope, close fight
I just realized that Shikamaru could've been stalling for the late afternoon to pass by so his strategy increases in effectiveness. His act of laziness and unwillingness to fight Temari was only to see if he could stall a bit more time before Temari forcibly started the match. All while making Temari underestimate him due to his nonchalant attitude.
There's something I admire about putting so much thought and effort into this hypothetical that you realized the shadows would be longer in shikamaru's fight

I get Temari probably couldn't kill Shino's bugs, but you are upping them by not letting her blow them away and send another 2nd attack at Shino. Your scenario just has her just attacking swarms of prepped bugs. Even Konkurro caught Shino without bugs to land attack. Tamari could physically move them with 1 attack, and then follow up with another. I think Shino is an absolute monster, but Tamri just to me seems like a hard counter
Temari is cool and all but she was facing shikamru. Shikamaru is a big brain for sure but the fact he was able to pressure her so much despite having no offensive jutsu mean that shino would drop her. His bug can come from all sides and when they get her it's over. She was unable to destroy the place where shikamaru was hiding . Shino can just camp here while his bug get her gg easy. Also isn't kankuro stronger than temari ?
@@notforyou2893 I never got the impression that Konkuro was stronger than her. She loses once against Sasuke, and ties with Shikamaru. Every other fight she wins, and it's a stomp. Konkuro always struggles, and has like a 50/50 win loss ratio.
@@notforyou2893 Another big thing is that she wasn't destroying trees or doing big damage because she had to stay so far away from Shikamaru. He was using trees and stadium to boost his reach. At big distances it just blows you and cuts you like it did in this fight. If she gets closer she can float you in the air and cut you up helplessly like she does Tenten.

Shino bug arent that nice . When they get you your chakra is gone and there's no way to remove them beside setting yourself on fire or almighty push or teleportation or making water around your body lile kisame. Temari just can't remove them herself. The fact kankuro survived his fight against shino is just plot armor. Because lets be real shino had no reason to not have his bug suck kankuro dry until he dropped dead. The opponent kankuro faced are stronger than the one temaru faced : - Orochimaru henchmen for kankuro/ Freaking tenten for temari. - Shino for kankuro/ shikamaru for temari - Sakon and ukon for kankuro/ tayuya for temari. - then we have sasori for kankuro while temari did nothing. Again no disrespect for our boi shikamaru but his shadow possession jutsu require him to take a specific stance while shino just here chilling with his hand in his pocket while his bug eat you up.
@@notforyou2893 You aren't giving Shikamaru the respect he deserves for his Temari fight. Woods on side of arena plus stadium walls gives him crazy reach. He also is deceptive about how far he can reach. Not crazy strong, but the environment is good for him. He has cover and it's in huge shaded area. Sound ninja guy Shino fought had 1 arm. Not an impressive oppent, but it was a good stomping by Shino. His blast waves did scatter bug swarms, so I don't know why Temari who could ragdoll a person with her wind wouldn't be able to scatter them. Konkurro sound 4 guy was exhausted to the point his fighting head wasn't even in control. Dude was just waiting for someone to kill him at that point. Temari lands against healthyish oppent and 1 shots her easily. I don't know why you would point out Konkurro vs Sasori. He got stomped hard by an oppent playing with him. Not exactly an impressive feat. Cool he fought him and Temari didn't I guess?
My only thought is that Sasuke might be struggling with the Curse Mark after fighting 2 Jinchuurikis in a row, so he might be either handicapped or amped up by it while fighting Shino, which might provide Shino with openings to exploit. I still think Sasuke wins, but I feel like Kishimoto might've handled the fight like that.
I think Naruto wins because in the valley of the end Sasuke won against Naruto holding back because he wasn't trying to kill him but in the exams Sasuke won't try to kill him either
Weightless lee isn’t faster than neji only when lee opens the gates does he state to neji that he was saving it for him see what you have to look forward to and that’s when we actually see neji look impressed up until then neji was calm and looking like he’s seen this all before which implies neji has fought and defeated lee without his weights at the very least neji has speed equal to weightless lee maybe even faster
I really wish we saw Neji's footwork speed because it's really hard to believe he would be able to move at lightning speeds. His fighting style is based off of Tai Chi, which is very slow and grounded on the legs and relies on fast and technical arm and hand movements to its advantage. We can kind of see it in the games, but it's hard to consider the games canon.
I'd say Neji's reaction speed is much greater than Lee's, why Neji looked bored during the first few gates. The Byakugan giving him a massive advantage in tai jutsu over Lee. Its not until the later gates, where Lee's raw speed could overcome Neji's reaction speed. Though I still don't see how Lee gets past rotation until like gate 6 or 7 where he can make shockwaves large enough to overcome the rotation. The biggest issue here is you can't stay gated for long. And I'd say Neji has enough chakra control, and raw chakra, to outlast Lee. Lee could only go to gate 5 during this arc. Lee's only hope is to go straight to gate 5 and blitz. But if he hit rotation straight on, Lee is a dead man. Lee doesn't have a chakra buffer in the form of a tailed beast, excess chakra tends to just leave the gated body and not stick around. While Neji had that wtf look....I still don't think he could have lost to Lee after he mastered rotation during the chunnin arc.
@@mellothirty I say lighting speed because their fastest movements make them disappear in a blink of an eye. I'm pretty sure the delay in movement is only for dramatic effect and to give us time to process what's happening. It's especially apparent in Lee vs. Gaara where nobody could even track Lee and only the viewers can see him for clarity. I know there's the whole debate of Minato and his speed, but that's more like teleportation than sheer speed output through physical means. It's not really something that can be beat through training.
I feel like with Dosu you have to factor in that his fight against Gaara existed to hype up Gaara's transformation so idk if you can scale him with it. Also you should assume he would have trained some new techniques for his weaknesses. Maybe something mid range. That would wear down Shikamaru and make him adapt more(the fight would be boring otherwise) Not that I dont think Shikamaru would still win
Narratively Shikamaru vs Dosu is interesting because they both took out a member of their squad and both are considered the leaders of their squad. In general it’s an interesting match up that no one talks about. I think in practice even if Shikamaru beat Dosu he would likely use like 70% of his chakra and lose to Temari quickly since Shikamaru barely scraped that fight and still lost.
I think Dosu pretty much stomps Shikamaru and Temari, yes if they are far in the stadium their technique are in advantage but honestly Dosu is the most dangerous if his technique works.

Sasuke vs Shino, at that point how much chakra does Sasuke have left for weightless taijutsu and fire style? Going from Gara to Naruto without the curse mark the fight might actually be closer if Sasuke is nearly out of chakra that his speed doesn’t last and if his fire can’t be spammed or as huge.
Temari was saving some chakra against Shikamaru for the later as well since she knew that theyre going to attack the leaf. In this scenario, theres no reason for her to hold back, she would have blasted Shino's bugs with the Kirikiri right away leaving him with no bugs and no treest to hide. Wind is an extremely useful countertechnique against bugs as even if it doesnt kill them, it will definitely pusg them away from her giving her time to reposition and with her strategic abilities I can it imagine her finding herself surrounded by bugs. Easy win for Temari.
30.38 Byakugan does give you that "precognition", even more so than the sharingan. as kakshi said: the Byakugan's "eye of perception" abilities are stronger than the sharingan's, and reading your opponent's movements falls under that
By the way sasuke isn’t nerfed at all outside of the hospital we know that the uchiha are amped by hatred and after he was forced to relive his parents dying and got slammed by his brother his hatred would be strong as shown to us by how aggressive he was when naruto visited him before the rooftop fight. The reason i think it amped sasuke is because he was clearly being outperformed by kyuubi naruto in the forest of death and while you may at first think that naruto having kyuubi amp makes him stronger and faster than on the rooftop we know that a better chakra control makes it so shinobi are better able to use their chakra in order to amp their speed and jutsu so think of it like if i had a really large fan and a slightly smaller fan. While the large fan might cool the room down a little faster the smaller fan consumes less energy so I’m able to keep it running for a longer time so it would outperform the large fan.
I agree with most of this, the only different thing i could see happen is if naruto decides to summon a "medium" toad, like pain arc gamakichi, that would probably be enough to beat sasuke at that point, maybe if he accidentally summons ma or pa or both they might help him out of curiosity, or guide him during the fight.
People try so hard to not let Naruto summon lmao. 😂 they make up unknown rules and information to favor the other characters. Winning the exam or not, Gaara and Naruto stomp everyone at their full power Sasuke included.
Gamabunta being summoned is out of the question. Another toad could be used in his place though, Gama (the toad that blocked Samehada) and because of size considerations may be a better alternative anyway if he felt inclined to help Jiraiya's soon to be protégé. Probably would require less chakra than the big boss as well.
Personally I think part one naruto doesn’t have enough summoning skill to choose what he summons. He just throws all of his chakra into it and hope gamabunta comes out
I disagree - Part 1 Naruto is, well, absolute garbage at Chakra Control. He would either not throw enough in and get Gamakichi like in the forest, or be so hyped by the fights/see Sasuke prepping a Chidori, panic, and get Gamabunta from using too much chakra. I doubt he'd hit the happy middle ground to get a different toad, especially since he doesn't actually know any other toads at that point.
Nope. Shino beats Sasake. He is drained after two Chidoris and fighting against Naruto and Gaara, both very difficult fights. Without enough chakra, he's blowing smoke, not spitting 🔥. If he resorts to the curse mark, Kakashi would shut down the match. Shino could use smoke bombs, explosive kunai, and shuriken to put Sasake on his heels. Then use an insect clone substitute to get away, while infecting Sasake with his bugs. Game over. Honestly the idea that Sasake is the most powerful genin in the Leaf isn't backed up by facts. Yeah, he's strong and has some powerful jutsu, but at this point, he's completely beatable.
One small mistake was made here which is actually that neji is faster than weightless Lee lol Lee says he needs the gates to beat neji so the gates unknown number but the gates is actually where nejis speed is second Naruto actually beats Sasuke here due to the curse mark not being available since Naruto will as he has get his will of fire amp not hid protection amp tho so yeah he actually does beat Sasuke here
A perfect weapon for Shikamaru would be the needle spewing umbrella from the forest of death. Hundreds of needles scattered into the ground would all leave shadows, extending his range and precision.

One scenario I really like to imagine, is if Sakura passed through the exams and got to fight with the other characters that got into the finals, including Dosu in this version. Of course that, in this scenario, I wouldn't imagine her being ''useless'' and actually had some help from Kurenai since Kakashi was with Sasuke. It would be really cool to see a fight between her and Dosu since it would be an rematch between them, which would make things really interesting, and also making the statement that she's a Genjutsu prodigy true with many genjutsu attacks and Taijutsu on the fight. It would be such an great fight and it would also develop Sakura more if she concentrated hard on the fight and won against Dosu, who would see that she had potential all along, and just started to blossom.

Her, fighting with Dosu, does make sense, because it would be an interesting rematch, where he would think that she wouldn't be able to defeat him again, because she received help the last time. This would be the perfect opportunity to show her true skills and abilities in Genjutsu with the training she received. Sakura draw against ino was purely plot as ino was easily stronger than Sakura. Kishimoto let Sakura went to tsunade for training at end of Naruto and in shippuden we get she learned both healing ability and physical taijutsu skills from tsunade but ino failed who too went to train. Sakura got character development for her personality into more serious, caring and have more feeling of love rather than lust for sasuke and kishimoto also wanted Sakura to be stronger as she is main female lead by training with tsunade like Naruto with jiraiya and sasuke with orochimaru etc. From being lusting for a guy who didn't give a damn about her and was petty useless in fight and weakest character to become strongest female character in shippuden just by going to tsunade is massive plot armor. I know where you get at with Dosu but we have to consider that he had still a month left to train from the point he attacked gaara so he perhaps got to a higher level than his current form because he wants to fight Sasuke and doesn't want to get possessed by Shikamarus shadow again.
A big thing you ignore is that the sand siblings were hiding their abilities / nerfed in the arc Temari didn't use summoning Gaara didn't use the stuff he pulled against Kimmimaro and Kankuro didn't use a lot a tricks he used on Sakon fight. Also people talk abt Naruto but Shika had the biggest plot armor considering how Temari wrecked Tayuya she should have bombed him like how do you go from not being able to cut a tree to wiping out a whole forest in 1 arc.
Because they didn' have that stuff in the Chunin exams. All characters in the Sasuke retrieval arc got stronger and learned new abilities, including the sand siblings
Temari fought Sasuke while he was pursuing Gaara. Konkurro even tells her she won't hold out long. She doesn't do anything huge even though she definitely would if she could. She legit thinks she is fighting to the death to protect Gaara
to give Shino some credit. I believe he would take a blow from Sasuke, grab his arm or put him in a hold of some kind and then have his insects crawl over to Sasuke's body. That's game over for Sasuke unless he brings out the Curse Mark and overfeeds the insects with too much chakra. I don't see that happening considering Kakashi's warning though.
Crazy thing if this was set in the Yu Yu Hakusho universe, they would still proceed with the tournament (or what's left of it) after the interruption is concluded despite the chaos. haha.
if i were Dosu, i would put an alarm clock in the arm device. Assuming theyre both standing 20ft or so apart from each other, as soon as the match starts, he rushes Shikamaru to get close, throwing kunai and shuriken, knowing he has to interupt his hand signs so he cant start shadow possession. With the chance that he still gets shadow possession off and Dosu doesnt get his own jutsu off, the clock starts vibrating, allowing the device to activate, and use his chakra to direct it towards Shikamaru. Earplugs arent going to work because of the fight with Choji proving he doesnt need a direct line to the eardrum, any kind of earplugs will lessen the effect but not enough to maintain shadow possession. Dosu then breaks free and takes him out quickly unless Shikamaru jumps backwards to create distance and try to put him out of range of Dosu's chakra directed soundwaves. At that point you could then say that Shikamaru technically wins in the same way he won against Temari, by getting the capture. If however Shikamaru doesnt create distance then he would be incapacitated. Shikamaru would have to have learned a new technique to handle sound waves which is unlikely due to his character, as seen with how he came up with counter-attacks on the fly against Temari. So i give it to Dosu. However with Temari having control of wind and air with her fan, she would probably nullify Dosu's jutsu outright and win. But you cant just say "Shikamaru would know how to win" and leave it at that.
The fact that my favourite character Shino made it to the finals is good enough for me! One of the most underrated characters in Naruto in my opinion. Loved the video and logic behind all your arguments! The only thing I’d say that was missing would be the fact that if Shino did make it to the finals, I’m pretty sure he’d be training as well (Like Naruto, Sasuke etc did) and he might’ve acquired new Jutsus, or ways to counter his weakness being fire style. But all that would be speculation. Nonetheless I do agree that Sasuke would win the Chuunin Exams. Great video keep up the amazing content!
Neji low dif Sasuke no cap. Sasuke was able to use the same speed as weightless lee but at the expense of his stamina dropping fast. We see him exhausted and lee even comment on that . Attrition isn't for him i tell you. We know from lee that the 5 gates is the hidden move he was preparing to drop neji. That mean weightless lee isn't a problem for neji . That is also reinforced when we see an unimpressed neji witnessing weightless lee drop gaara. Also the neji who dropped kidomaru in the Sasuke rescue arc is the same one from the chunin exam. There is nothing thing that imply he got stronger. If you are going to say the 128 strikes well there is nothing that tell us he didn't already knew the move before but chose not to use it because he didn't taught it would be necessary to drop naruto which is true since naruto fell after the 64 strikes. Been a while since I've watch it so I'll just analyze the thumbnail: I remember Naruto being stronger than Sasuke at this point. When they went after Gaara it was Naruto who saved him and put up a better fight even before summoning Gamabunta. Assuming Gaara keeps his bloodlust in check, he should still beat Sasuke, and Naruto would not have as much motivation to go all out with Kurama's chakra, so he would also lose. Pretty sure the guy from the sound (Dosu?) was killed by Sasuke already. Shino and Gaara would be the finalists in ghat image, and I would expect Shino to win against a relatively calm Gaara.
Honestly here's a what if scenario: what if the sound team became allies, rather than the sand siblings? Or at least, what would have happened if Dosu stuck around as an Ally, with the goal of destroying orochimaru?
Sasuke would be one of the more obvious choices, but I believe Shino has a higher chance of winning. He has more favorable matchups due to how his insects function. He's essentially a checkmate shinobi. Once his insects are where he wants them, it's essentially his win or a tie. His chakra devouring insects could shut down Gaara's magnet release if enough of them are mixed into his sand. For insance, if the insects managed to get inside his gourd (which is filled with chakra-dense sand that Gaara used to grind rocks and minerals in the ground into more sand to control via his Magnet Release), it would prevent Gaara from doing much without infusing sand with more chakra. The insects would likely manage to swarm him before that could happen. Gaara would have a very uphill battle unless Shukaku was released. As for Naruto, he tends to fall victim to just about every enemy jutsu at least once. He would almost certainly fall victim to the chakra insects and wouldn't have a reliable means of getting them off him during the Chunin Exam Arc. He would have the chakra to power through and attack Shino even if he got covered in the insects, but would likely go down without relying on the Nine Tails Chakra. Sasuke is the only matchup I think Shino would have a problem with, but Sasuke's chakra reserves are low and he would go down quicker than the other. But considering he could use Fire Nature jutsu and had trained to move nearly as fast as Rock Lee, he could just as easily put Shino on the backfoot.
I don't buy at all Sasuke beating Naruto at that point in the story. Sasuke lost against phase 1 Shukkaku and Naruto beat it, that's also part of Sasuke inferiority complex. The mental amp argument doesn't keep up because guess who also got a mental amp saying "I am an avenger" and remembering Itachi, that's Sasuke. We could speculate all we want, but the evidence about the scaling and feats of these characters say otherwise.

I like how it DID play out in the show, in a way that's no hold's barred. Shino tied with Kankuro. Sasuke lost to Gaara (cursed seal shenanigans) and Naruto beat Gaara (Gamabunta vs Shikaku). The only question mark was Temari.
I think that was handled in two mindsets. 1. She was really beaten by Shikamaru. He definitely had more chakra left than he said given what he accomplished not much later. He just used the least amount possible to prove he COULD beat her, cus winning would've been a drag. 2. Sasuke beat her before really fighting Gaara. She basically just had to do what Shikamaru was originally going to have to do- fight an extra match.
Considering what naruto did to gaara, i’d say him easily. like he fucked him up. sasuke was losing his mind seeing them duke it out. like who is stopping that menace who just learned to tap in to kurama’s chakra?
I really feel like Naruto vs Sasuke here does depend on whether or not Naruto manages to tap into Kurama's chakra. And also, the timing of it - he probably loses if it triggers pre-Chidori, but if he can use it to reg from the Chidori, he may be able to push Sasuke into a corner. This Might force Sasuke to trigger the Curse mark, but if he does that he's doomed against Shino
We basically got all of the Chuunin Exam matches even though Orochimaru interrupted. Naruto beat Neji, Gaara beat Sasuke, Shino and Kankuro tied, Shikamaru gave up against Temari, and Naruto and Gaara tied leaving Temari as the winner by default.
Honesty I can see Shino taking the win high difficulty in this scenario. Sasuke would be very much drained compared to Shino going into the fight (Having to use his 2nd chidori, his sharingan and a few fire jutsu against Naruto). Now if Shino manages to drain Sasuke even more this is gonna be bad for him, especially when you consider Sasuke didnt notice Shino placed a bug on him
Also with the gamabunta bit I think its a bit silly to compare him to Akamaru. One is a ninja hound with techniques specially suited to their owner, Kiba is a fundamentally incomplete fighter without Akamaru. Although I do think Naruto would summon Gamabunta, it would just be for a gag moment to disqualify him, while at the same time setting Sasuke up to leave the village. Might even effect Sasuke's fight against Shino since he's shaken.
Except for it being too big it might not even fit in the arena/would be nearly impossible to not get bystanders involved, I don't see why Gamabunta would disqualify Naruto. The point of the chunin exams, besides the obvious of promotion, is to showcase the strength of their respective villages in the hopes of getting more missions, which means more money and status. If a mere genin of Konoha is summoning this gigantic ass toad, that makes Konoha look good.
I think it’s funny when people point out Chief Toad won’t fight when it doesn’t matter you just need him to be summoned on top of your opponent and in a small arena it would be even easier

I think Shino vs a tired and weakened Sazuke would be much closer than you think. Shino would likely not use his insects by having them fly straight towards Sazuke as he knows about the Ushihas using fire style. He would maybe use some insects like that as a distraction, but he would use most of them in a more hidden way. I could see him coating himself with insects so when Sazuke attacks him with Tai Jutsu, some of those insects on his body would stick to Sazuke and either dig into his skin or hide in his cloths. Shino would act like his insect shield has failed due to Sazuke being still so strong and fast, but that would be bait. In fact those hidden insects would emit some kind of ferromone that would attract other insects from around the village that would then go attack mode on Sazuke - those insects would not be controlled by Shino, those would be wild insects attacking on their own due to the ferromones, so Shine would not need to use Chakra for that attack. I think Sazuke would need to use a big fire jutzu to get out of that situation which would cause him to use up even more chakra, but he would be getting out of it and start launching his own attack - which is when Shino's second plan comes to play. He has other insects being hidden in the ground who attack Sazuke from below and start eating up his chakra. Because Sazuke's chakra being already diminished pretty much I would say that this would lead to the curse mark breaking out and likely Sazuke winning the fight with the cursemark before colapsing afterwards due to the negative effects. That would then also reveal the curse mark to everybody which then would mean the Hokage would try to remove it, but Sazuke would want to keep it for the extra powerboost it grants and because of that Sazuke would join Orochimaru and that would bring us back to the original story to some extent.

Shino thinks of a strategy quicker than you thought and he high miss her. And with Naruto vs Sasuke I don’t see a scenario where Naruto is unable to battle. He’d never give up until he’s out or dead.
I don’t think naruto would be able to use that much of kurama’s power like he did against gaara because against gaara, naruto’s life was in danger. In a fight against sasuke it would just be a rival fight without much stakes. I don’t even think he would be able to use gamabunta because he’s so big he might destroy the stadium. (Same reason I don’t think gaara would be able to fully release shukaku the way he did against naruto.) Naruto used kurama’s power against sasuke in the retrieval arc because the stakes were so high. Yet, naruto still lost that fight. Naruto was able to beat neji because he had to prove a point. Naruto wanted to beat sasuke and he would’ve put up one hell of a fight but I don’t think he was ready to push himself the way he did against neji. (Plus at this point in the series, naruto and sasuke were arguably getting along the best they did in the whole series. Especially since before the prelims, sasuke acknowledged naruto’s strength and that he wanted to test his strength against him which solidified them as friendly rivals on an equal ground.) Though I could definitely be wrong.

Sasuke would not have been promoted. Every fight in bracket 1 is a power fight, and the finals likely have an exhausted Sasuke versus an exhausted opponent. Sasuke would just press with raw power attacks (likely 1 or 2 fire style attacks and/or his speed) and be near the point of collapse. Since only strategic fighters were promoted in this particular exam in the source material, Sasuke isn't getting promoted.
None of the fighters had a answer to Shinos bugs maybe Gamabunta using his long range water attack other than that Sasuke dindt know genjutsu so he can't use it on the bugs, Gaara has the perfect shield but that also doesn't stop the bugs.

The name of the game is getting past the bugs to get decisive blows on Shino. Temari even has a decent chance. Neji would have been in trouble.

Even if you get past the bugs Shino is no slouch at taijutsu and u would give him a favor as he wants you to be close, that way he can put the female bug on you, IMO people realy underate how broken Shinos is on the first half of Naruto and its a shame how Kishimoto used him later in Shippuden.
@glcsander why would we have this same finals participation list if Sasuke didn't get the curse seal? There would be no reason for the sound team to be sent if the invasion was canceled before the first stage. The second stage literally started the same day as the first stage.
Sasuke, without the curse mark, has around 2 chidori's in him. He likely has half a dozen of his grand fireballs. He straight up beats Shino in close range before we even bring in any theft from Lee or break from the exam training.
Shino is good. That isn't up for debate, but if we are talking about a finals scenario between him and Sasuke or even a fully rested match between the two of them in that arena, Sasuke has the advantage. The lack of cover doesn't help Shino in the slightest, Sasuke is faster, so it will be difficult if not impossible for him to keep range in this fight. Shino, at this point, does not have any finishers that work quickly.
Shino could win, but it would take a really good play to do so against Sasuke. Naruto and Gaara, if they made it to the spot, instead shut down Shino's only win condition. Temari can keep the bugs away from her for a time and, in theory, get close to knock Shino out. His biggest issue is lack out quick knockout power without his bugs swarming the opponent and his lack of cover on this particular battle field.
Shino fans are just happy to see him with a seat at the table.

Neji didn't lose to "one punch" He barely was able to pull off rotation in that last confrontation causing both their chakras to basically explode. This severely damaged both of them. Neji was on his last legs as he walked over to naruto. Hell he couldn't even keep the byakugan active. he was drained and that's when naruto delivered a blow to his chin.
Oh I thought it was cause he was out of chakra and when in that state anything can take you out. Even with my understanding of it though I hate to watch that fight because of the 1 hit KO

Think of an explosion with the nine tailed fox chakra backing it. the fact neji stood back up and walked over to naruto after tanking something like that just shows you how insanely durable he is.

Neji is barely able to walk over to naruto and can't even keep the byakugan active. Neji tanked that hit and barely came out in one piece. that's why the punch from naruto was able to finish him off.

Shino vs Kankuro is the most underrated fight in Naruto, it's so fucking good but both characters are relegated to the background after so sometimes even I forget it happened.
It's so evenly matched and it's won for one attack Kankuro didn't see coming. It's the perfect fight.
I mean Shino was such an overpowered character there had to be excuses for him to basically never be anywhere important.
I think the one thing you overlooked with Shino vs Sasuke is that Sasuke used 2 chidoris which means his chakra tank is pretty much on E. 1 Chidoris vs Gara. 1 Chidoris vs Naruto. Shino used barely any chakra throughout his fights because of the style of his fighting. So a completely gassed Sasuke means slower movements, no fires and no chidoris. This would come down to a pure taijutsu fight. Shino is pretty much at half tank likely after his fights. In this scenario, 1 v 1 with just taijutsu, the second Sasuke closes distance, Shino overwhelms Sasuke with an insect barrage and eats what's left is Sasuke's Chakra.
Shino beats Sasuke here.
Also, people underestimate Shino and think he is JUST the bugs, when he in fact is really good at Taijutsu as well. The man was a beast in Part 1 and imo he would have been a good contender for the exams, I think having him defeat Sasuke would have helped show his threat level

There's also a point that was overlooked. Okay, Sasuke is fast enough to dodge the insects, but only those he can see. Maybe a byakugan would have helped against insects trying to come from blind spots, but a sharingan wouldn't. I believe the fight would have gone like this: Sasuke closes the distance and engages into a taijutsu contest. Shino helped by his insects could possibly resist a little bit. In a pure taijutsu fight, eventually Shino loses, but in this instance he just needs to stall Sasuke enough until insects find a way to get to Sasuke. Sasuke could be able to use fire to kill some of them so I still think there's 2 ways it could end. Shino is virtually fine and healthy, but a lot of his insects die or are damaged and he withdraws simply from respect to his insects, not wanting them all to be obliterated, or Shino stalls enough for Sasuke to be be swarmed, also keep in mind Sasuke chakra is low, so there's not a lot of insects that are needed to eat Sasuke's remaining chakra, either way I'd say the fight would be 65% chances for Shino and 35% for Sasuke, but in both scenarios Sasuke is pretty much at his limits, while Shino is barely phased.

One thing you missed is that Sasukes speed is attained by using his chakra. I think i remember lee said that he was as fast as lee but it consumed a lot of energy. So by the time he fought shino, Sasuke wouldnt be able to spam rock lee speed. Thats also adding the chakra his sharingan uses, and the fact its not fully developed. In fact it was only in the final valley that Sasuke got the ability to know which one was the real naruto. So shino would use a bug clone and the moment sasuke punched shino bug clone, the bugs would grab a hold off sasuke and suck his chakra

The only person ever shown to see through the clone jutsu was Madara, and some people think it could be one of his MS abilities (seeing through illusions or something to that effect). For anyone else, they mostly just have to guess or if their eyes are fast enough (like Sasuke in that fight), they can see which Naruto is real by tracking his movement since he makes clones out in the open

Speaking of which, I feel like it's not harped on enough that Orochimaru sacrificed two 12 year olds. And it was almost a WHOLE MONTH until the finals. Were Zaku and Kin sacrificed while alive? Zaku was pretty much destroyed by Shino, but Kin was probably the least injured ninja besides Dosu, Kankuro, and Temari. Was she just locked away for a whole month before the ritual sacrifice? That's a crazy dark situation no matter which way you paint it.

He had plenty of options before sacrificing his own people. Shiore's team, The escorts for the Kazekage, a forest full of genin that could go missing without notice, who all signed death waivers.
Orochimaru could have easily saved Zaku's arms and put him and Kin on a chunin assault team for the crush. Where every ninja matters.
And Don't get me started on how stupid Kabuto was for setting up dosu to be killed by gaara was. What if he went on a rampage it was a full moon and in a populated city. How did nobody wake up. Kabuto would have ruined Orochimaru's plans.

With Sasuke vs Shino, obviously Sasuke would win if they were both fresh. But after his fight with Garra and Naruto.
Due to his fatigue he would lose. You forget to consider and mention that Shino doesn’t have to send his insects to Sasuke straight up. Due to Temari all his insects are already scattered all over the arena, some even in the tunnels that Naruto dug.
Unless Sasuke has a fire tornado that that will cleanse the whole arena, Sasuke won’t be able to dodge anything.

Shino nearly died in his 1v1 against konkuro, I don't even think that shino would have beaten both Konkuro and Temari let alone win vs them both and be in any better condition than Sasuke.
I didn't even think about that. And it would definitely fit the character and themes in part 1 where you have to be 10 steps ahead of the opponent. Shino would definitely win. Sasuke only knows one fire style justsu at that time, being fireball jutsu. And several characters were able to dodge that. I don't see why Shino can't.
And Sasuke already used 2 chidoris which means he's running on fumes at this point while Shinos style barely uses any Chakra.
Shino stomps in this scenario.
To be fair, I kinda disagree on two points:
- I don't think Neji and Lee are so far away in terms of speed. Neji's speed doesn't show much because Neji doesn't move around as much, but it's pretty much implied Neji is the strongest genin from the leaf village at that point, at least in base (he of course would lose to curse mark Sasuke, gates Lee, etc). Iircc it's even stated that Neji always beats Lee up to that point, and he wasn't surprised at all phased at all by Lee's speed (granted it wasn't a surprise for him, but I take it as he probably sparred with a weightless Lee before). Matter of fact, when Sasuke fights Naruto at the top of the hospital, he uses his Sharingan from the get go.
- At this point in the story Naruto isn't a great fighter, but he already is very good with tricks. Basically every fight he wins is through underhanded (ninja, if you will), tactics. He doesn't overpower Neji, but outsmarts him. So while I'd say Sasuke should win this round, I think there is room here for a possible Naruto victory by pulling something on Sasuke. And yes, he doesn't do that in the hospital and the valley, but in those fights their animosity was much stronger. Naruto fought the way he did because he wanted to beat the shit out of Sasuke, not just win. In the chuunin exams he doesn't have reason to be that angry, so although he still wanted to prove himself I think he would try at least a few tricks on Sasuke like the one he pulled on Neji.
Sasuke realized how truly powerful and destructive Naruto is when he saw the backside of the water tower on the hospital roof. He then found out if Kakashi hadn't interfered Sasuke would have been done for.
Yeah I agree. From what Lee implied he needed the Hidden Lotus to defeat Neji. So It's safe to assume he's at least as strong as 2nd Gate Lee. Granted sometimes move sets and compatibilities against opponents comes into play. I know even post training in a fight between Naruto and Lee, Lee's simple overwhelming power and speed likely would destroy Naruto. Meanwhile Naruto barely scraped by against Neji granted how strong the Nine tails boost made him being questionable. And of course his victory against Gaara full power pulling a W. But yeah mental and plot amp. But I still think it's fair to say between Sasuke and Lee a fight between them would definitely be in Lee's favor. Probably needing Curse mark to keep up with Hidden Lotus Lee but even then he'd really just be doing his best not to get one shot. So I guess between Rock Lee, Neji and Sasuke there's a bit of a rock paper scissors thing at play.
Neji > Lee (not counting Hidden Lotus) Lee > Sasuke (not counting Curse Mark) Sasuke potentially high diffing Neji if Chidiri can get past palm rotation but honestly I have no idea. It can go either way if you ask me.
Things definitely get tricky including Hidden Lotus and Curse mark. But even Neji managed to beat a Curse mark level 2 user. Granted that was after the Chunin exams but I'd imagine he hasn't gotten much stronger since then.
Did Naruto get lucky against Neji? Yeah, as a fan of that fight and satisfied Naruto won I'll definitely say if Neji was more concerned with a decisive win he shouldn't have went for it immediately. His time of playing around and underestimating Naruto was a factor. Against Sasuke and more importantly Lee who he's aware how strong he is, he likely wouldn't be playing around as much.
shino is so underrated, back then i found his combat smarts nearly on lvl with shiko. he is good in planning out his moves and he uses jutsus and strategies which many people arent used to and have issues countering in advance.
The question is: Would the chunnin judges change their veredict about Naruto? (They were not impress with Neji and Naruto fight)
In the original, only Shikamaru was promoted because he had shown the necessary chacteristics of a Chunnin (tactical awareness sheit). Sasuke and Shino were kinda robbed of their chances of showing their capabilities because Orochimaru.
What would be the final veredict? Would they still promote Shikamaru? Would a Naruto vs Sasuke fight change their perception of Naruto?
Shikamaru would 100% be promoted, even more with an extra fight of showcase.
I think Shino, Kankuro and Temari would have a good chance of being promoted, in that order.
Sasuke wouldn't have the opportunity to show chunin capabilities due to him needing to rush down and overpower his opponents to win so I guess he wouldn't be promoted in the exam but would be called for an interview or a trial mission

Also Naruto, he used his jounin-level clones to delay Neji and counter attack. He was somewhat competent to keep up against a fighter who everyone thought the favorite.

I don't think you're giving enough credit to how smart Naruto is in battle. In every other situation he is an idiot but he's actually capable of coming up with some pretty great strategies. I'm thinking the wind shuriken against the mist ninjas, underground uppercut against negi and sexy jutsu against Kagara . I can imagine Sasuke thinking he's about to finish off Naruto with a chidori and bam it's a shadow clone.
That was my thought exactly. How many times have we seen Naruto go against an arrogant opponent, only to blindside them at the end with a rasengan showing how strong and battle smart he ACTUALLY is. I could see it going very similarly to his fight with Negi. Also, he kinda glanced over just how much Sasuke can get under Naruto's skin. If we got pissed off Naruto with some nine tails juice vs over arrogant Sasuke without using the curse mark, I think Naruto stands could win.
He also forgets how resilient naruto is. He would definitely tire sasuke out a lot more this man has huge chakra reserves and never gives up, admittedly he did expend the most energy out of any of the fights against Neji, but he has been waiting for this opportunity to defeat sasuke in front of the whole village he isnt giving up that easily. And as you say he is a very out of the box quick thinker which throws off his opponents time and time again. Naruto does just activate the nine tails chakra when he is emotional when he is on the brink of death if sasuke lands the chidori the nine tails chakra will come out and naruto will heal and grow stronger while sasuke will only continue to grow weaker until he uses the curse seal in which case quite unfairly kakashi stops the fight but who knows they could stop the fight if the nine tails seal is weakened enough as well. I could see this going either way
Everyone underestimates Naruto's reflex speed and brute strength in BASE form. I highly doubt that Sasuke will ever land that chidori. Naruto wasn't even trying to dodge it in the valley.
Sasuke relies on his Chakra to mimic what he learned from weightless Lee. That includes his speed and strength.
When he ran out of Chakra while fighting gaara in the forest he couldn't stand strong against gaara's charge and got knocked back a couple times. Base Naruto without the mental amp, sent gaara flying the other direction, mid charge, with a kick to the face.
If Sasuke actually hits harder than that all the time then why didn't he flexed weightless Lee's moves on him. . . oh right, it relies on Chakra cuz he copied it he didn't actually master it.
If Naruto landed that kick on Sasuke's face he would be writhing in agony on the ground like Kiba. The ONLY genin capable of tanking a direct shot to the face like that (before the Sasuke retrieval arc) are Naruto, choji, gaara, and rock lee. Remember the beat down Sasuke took from itachi in the hotel. Well that was nothing compared to what Naruto dished out in the retrieval arc. Sasuke was much less durable before that and putting him against Naruto, rock Lee, or neji would make it a high difficulty fight for Sasuke .

In certain fights like the valley of the end fight Naruto wasnt fighting 100% serious for at least half the fight instead trying to talk sasuke out of leaving and that's after getting whipped by kimimaro. Even the final blow he scraped sasuke headband instead of hitting him directly on although he might have killed sasuke if he was able to scratched the headband he could've hit a vital point. Of course that was never his intention. Who knows how it would've played out if naruto came at sasuke at the intensity that sasuke 1st came out, he falcon dropped him on his head and pierced his lungs with a chidori. I think there's a misconception about Neji's speed. Lee states that he needed the 5 gate to beat Neji, with could very well imply that Neji is indeed able to content with Lee until that stage. With then also means that naruto is way faster than you're portraiting him here. Great video nevertheless
It could also mean that neji can put up his rotation after noticing an attack from lee in 4th gate before lee can hit him which we kinda see him do against Naruto his reaction speed is a lot higher than his fighting speed so in those terms Naruto in that state would be slightly faster than 4th gate lee considering he matched neji in that attack.
Which is completely stupid, let's be real. Naruto got rolled by Lee using one hand and one leg before the first of the Chunin Exams. Scaling Naruto up to someone being able to keep up with Neji or Rock Lee in terms of speed after less than 2 months is absolutely ridiculous. Main character plot armor, nothing more and nothing less.

While I do think Sasuke would probably win, I feel like Shino’s bugs would still be a bigger issue then you let on. This was back when strats played a role in a battles outcome and Shino has had simple, but effective strats in most of his fights. Sasukes smart, but both he and Naruto have an issue with trying to brute force a situation and I feel like that by itself could bite him in the ass during this fight, especially if he’d been getting win after win. Sasuke’s best option during the fight is range. Getting close, even with his superior speed, is an all around bad idea. If he physically attacks Shino, and shino disperses into bugs, that by itself could essentially be a game over.
As a small aside, at the time of Sasukes fight, I think he was also still slower then Lee was. Lee was damn near teleporting, but we see most of sasukes movements during the fight.
Again, sasuke would like win. I’d ratio the fight 70/30 with Sasuke having the 70. Especially since he’s a fan favorite and has way more screen time then most of the cast. Way more feats to go on. It really makes me wish other characters would have gotten more screen time so we can really see what else they have to offer.

And, as another comment stated, after Temari's battle Shino's bugs are around the field, he only needs to get a female bug on Sasuke, who after fighting Gaara and Naruto is probably low on chakra

power level aside, i think it would be cool narratively to see sasuke get cocky and underestimate shino and get bit (literally) for it. Shino likely looked into sasuke and his weaknesses, and sasuke had already used 2 chidoris after the garaa fight and would be exhausted physically form the naruto fight, so he would be a lot slower and weaker. And we know saskue loves pushing his limits so him losing to shino (or at least getting close to losing) would be a cool twist.
shino can have bugs land on sasuke during taijutsu bouts and i think people forget that shino's dad has him going on missions with him. shino has done at least b-rank difficulty missions with his own father who is the leader of his clan.

Sasuke would become Chunin but not Naruto. Naruto’s powers are unreliable and he isn’t skilled enough in ninja combat or stealth. Sasuke’s abilities are perfectly suited for ANBU and he’s smarter than Naruto so he would be promoted.
Great video, but using the whole “Temeri at this level” referrering to her feats against Shokamaru as her true extent of her abilities is false. She was holding back the whole time buying time for Sasuke to come to the arena and for the invasion. She lost with some smart gimmick from Shika, she never felt in danger, so she was saving all her chakra.
She is hard a counter to Shino and even Shikamaru. Because she will destroy the trees and their cover. Then they would take on the full power of Ranged attacks.
I feel like the same could be said about Dosu. When we see him lose it was either in a safe for him environment with all of his pals to cover for him or curbstomp by Gaara (which can be addressed to a)factor of surprise; b)Kishimoto trying to establish Gaara as this unstoppable force of nature). But that's just me being salty that both my favorite characters at the beginning were instakilled

In shikamaru's original fight against temari, the passage of time mattered. She had to adapt to the increasing amount of shade in the arena as the day passed. If they fought later in the day, that would only be more in shika's favor with even more shade. All the shade in the world wouldn't regenerate his chakra but, he's the type to notice and exploit that arena advantage. It'd probably still be a dope, close fight
I just realized that Shikamaru could've been stalling for the late afternoon to pass by so his strategy increases in effectiveness. His act of laziness and unwillingness to fight Temari was only to see if he could stall a bit more time before Temari forcibly started the match. All while making Temari underestimate him due to his nonchalant attitude.

I get Temari probably couldn't kill Shino's bugs, but you are upping them by not letting her blow them away and send another 2nd attack at Shino. Your scenario just has her just attacking swarms of prepped bugs. Even Konkurro caught Shino without bugs to land attack. Tamari could physically move them with 1 attack, and then follow up with another. I think Shino is an absolute monster, but Tamri just to me seems like a hard counter
Temari is cool and all but she was facing shikamru. Shikamaru is a big brain for sure but the fact he was able to pressure her so much despite having no offensive jutsu mean that shino would drop her.
His bug can come from all sides and when they get her it's over. She was unable to destroy the place where shikamaru was hiding .

At big distances it just blows you and cuts you like it did in this fight. If she gets closer she can float you in the air and cut you up helplessly like she does Tenten.

The fact kankuro survived his fight against shino is just plot armor. Because lets be real shino had no reason to not have his bug suck kankuro dry until he dropped dead.
The opponent kankuro faced are stronger than the one temaru faced :
- Orochimaru henchmen for kankuro/ Freaking tenten for temari.
- Shino for kankuro/ shikamaru for temari
- Sakon and ukon for kankuro/ tayuya for temari.
- then we have sasori for kankuro while temari did nothing.

He also is deceptive about how far he can reach. Not crazy strong, but the environment is good for him. He has cover and it's in huge shaded area.
Sound ninja guy Shino fought had 1 arm. Not an impressive oppent, but it was a good stomping by Shino. His blast waves did scatter bug swarms, so I don't know why Temari who could ragdoll a person with her wind wouldn't be able to scatter them.
Konkurro sound 4 guy was exhausted to the point his fighting head wasn't even in control. Dude was just waiting for someone to kill him at that point. Temari lands against healthyish oppent and 1 shots her easily.
I don't know why you would point out Konkurro vs Sasori. He got stomped hard by an oppent playing with him. Not exactly an impressive feat. Cool he fought him and Temari didn't I guess?
My only thought is that Sasuke might be struggling with the Curse Mark after fighting 2 Jinchuurikis in a row, so he might be either handicapped or amped up by it while fighting Shino, which might provide Shino with openings to exploit. I still think Sasuke wins, but I feel like Kishimoto might've handled the fight like that.

I think Naruto wins because in the valley of the end Sasuke won against Naruto holding back because he wasn't trying to kill him but in the exams Sasuke won't try to kill him either
Weightless lee isn’t faster than neji only when lee opens the gates does he state to neji that he was saving it for him see what you have to look forward to and that’s when we actually see neji look impressed up until then neji was calm and looking like he’s seen this all before which implies neji has fought and defeated lee without his weights at the very least neji has speed equal to weightless lee maybe even faster
I really wish we saw Neji's footwork speed because it's really hard to believe he would be able to move at lightning speeds. His fighting style is based off of Tai Chi, which is very slow and grounded on the legs and relies on fast and technical arm and hand movements to its advantage. We can kind of see it in the games, but it's hard to consider the games canon.

I'd say Neji's reaction speed is much greater than Lee's, why Neji looked bored during the first few gates. The Byakugan giving him a massive advantage in tai jutsu over Lee. Its not until the later gates, where Lee's raw speed could overcome Neji's reaction speed. Though I still don't see how Lee gets past rotation until like gate 6 or 7 where he can make shockwaves large enough to overcome the rotation.
The biggest issue here is you can't stay gated for long. And I'd say Neji has enough chakra control, and raw chakra, to outlast Lee. Lee could only go to gate 5 during this arc. Lee's only hope is to go straight to gate 5 and blitz. But if he hit rotation straight on, Lee is a dead man. Lee doesn't have a chakra buffer in the form of a tailed beast, excess chakra tends to just leave the gated body and not stick around.
While Neji had that wtf look....I still don't think he could have lost to Lee after he mastered rotation during the chunnin arc.
@@mellothirty I say lighting speed because their fastest movements make them disappear in a blink of an eye. I'm pretty sure the delay in movement is only for dramatic effect and to give us time to process what's happening. It's especially apparent in Lee vs. Gaara where nobody could even track Lee and only the viewers can see him for clarity.
I know there's the whole debate of Minato and his speed, but that's more like teleportation than sheer speed output through physical means. It's not really something that can be beat through training.

I feel like with Dosu you have to factor in that his fight against Gaara existed to hype up Gaara's transformation so idk if you can scale him with it.
Also you should assume he would have trained some new techniques for his weaknesses. Maybe something mid range. That would wear down Shikamaru and make him adapt more(the fight would be boring otherwise)

Narratively Shikamaru vs Dosu is interesting because they both took out a member of their squad and both are considered the leaders of their squad.
In general it’s an interesting match up that no one talks about.
I think in practice even if Shikamaru beat Dosu he would likely use like 70% of his chakra and lose to Temari quickly since Shikamaru barely scraped that fight and still lost.
I think Dosu pretty much stomps Shikamaru and Temari, yes if they are far in the stadium their technique are in advantage but honestly Dosu is the most dangerous if his technique works.

Sasuke vs Shino, at that point how much chakra does Sasuke have left for weightless taijutsu and fire style? Going from Gara to Naruto without the curse mark the fight might actually be closer if Sasuke is nearly out of chakra that his speed doesn’t last and if his fire can’t be spammed or as huge.
Temari was saving some chakra against Shikamaru for the later as well since she knew that theyre going to attack the leaf. In this scenario, theres no reason for her to hold back, she would have blasted Shino's bugs with the Kirikiri right away leaving him with no bugs and no treest to hide. Wind is an extremely useful countertechnique against bugs as even if it doesnt kill them, it will definitely pusg them away from her giving her time to reposition and with her strategic abilities I can it imagine her finding herself surrounded by bugs. Easy win for Temari.

30.38 Byakugan does give you that "precognition", even more so than the sharingan. as kakshi said: the Byakugan's "eye of perception" abilities are stronger than the sharingan's, and reading your opponent's movements falls under that
By the way sasuke isn’t nerfed at all outside of the hospital we know that the uchiha are amped by hatred and after he was forced to relive his parents dying and got slammed by his brother his hatred would be strong as shown to us by how aggressive he was when naruto visited him before the rooftop fight. The reason i think it amped sasuke is because he was clearly being outperformed by kyuubi naruto in the forest of death and while you may at first think that naruto having kyuubi amp makes him stronger and faster than on the rooftop we know that a better chakra control makes it so shinobi are better able to use their chakra in order to amp their speed and jutsu so think of it like if i had a really large fan and a slightly smaller fan. While the large fan might cool the room down a little faster the smaller fan consumes less energy so I’m able to keep it running for a longer time so it would outperform the large fan.
I agree with most of this, the only different thing i could see happen is if naruto decides to summon a "medium" toad, like pain arc gamakichi, that would probably be enough to beat sasuke at that point, maybe if he accidentally summons ma or pa or both they might help him out of curiosity, or guide him during the fight.

Another toad could be used in his place though, Gama (the toad that blocked Samehada) and because of size considerations may be a better alternative anyway if he felt inclined to help Jiraiya's soon to be protégé. Probably would require less chakra than the big boss as well.
Personally I think part one naruto doesn’t have enough summoning skill to choose what he summons. He just throws all of his chakra into it and hope gamabunta comes out
I disagree - Part 1 Naruto is, well, absolute garbage at Chakra Control. He would either not throw enough in and get Gamakichi like in the forest, or be so hyped by the fights/see Sasuke prepping a Chidori, panic, and get Gamabunta from using too much chakra. I doubt he'd hit the happy middle ground to get a different toad, especially since he doesn't actually know any other toads at that point.

Nope. Shino beats Sasake. He is drained after two Chidoris and fighting against Naruto and Gaara, both very difficult fights. Without enough chakra, he's blowing smoke, not spitting 🔥. If he resorts to the curse mark, Kakashi would shut down the match. Shino could use smoke bombs, explosive kunai, and shuriken to put Sasake on his heels. Then use an insect clone substitute to get away, while infecting Sasake with his bugs. Game over. Honestly the idea that Sasake is the most powerful genin in the Leaf isn't backed up by facts. Yeah, he's strong and has some powerful jutsu, but at this point, he's completely beatable.

A perfect weapon for Shikamaru would be the needle spewing umbrella from the forest of death. Hundreds of needles scattered into the ground would all leave shadows, extending his range and precision.

One scenario I really like to imagine, is if Sakura passed through the exams and got to fight with the other characters that got into the finals, including Dosu in this version.
Of course that, in this scenario, I wouldn't imagine her being ''useless'' and actually had some help from Kurenai since Kakashi was with Sasuke.
It would be really cool to see a fight between her and Dosu since it would be an rematch between them, which would make things really interesting, and also making the statement that she's a Genjutsu prodigy true with many genjutsu attacks and Taijutsu on the fight.
It would be such an great fight and it would also develop Sakura more if she concentrated hard on the fight and won against Dosu, who would see that she had potential all along, and just started to blossom.

It would be obvious that she would beat Ino in this version, and would be more developed and proactive at this point in the story! Her, fighting with Dosu, does make sense, because it would be an interesting rematch, where he would think that she wouldn't be able to defeat him again, because she received help the last time. This would be the perfect opportunity to show her true skills and abilities in Genjutsu with the training she received. She wouldn't be another Naruto, per say, but she would get an incredible fight and character development.

She never ever takes fights seriously except lusting for sasuke and only fight to impress him. Tenten had more skills when her character was shown who also sees tsunade as idol sadly she wasn't main female or even major side characters. Sakura draw against ino was purely plot as ino was easily stronger than Sakura. Kishimoto let Sakura went to tsunade for training at end of Naruto and in shippuden we get she learned both healing ability and physical taijutsu skills from tsunade but ino failed who too went to train. Sakura got character development for her personality into more serious, caring and have more feeling of love rather than lust for sasuke and kishimoto also wanted Sakura to be stronger as she is main female lead by training with tsunade like Naruto with jiraiya and sasuke with orochimaru etc. From being lusting for a guy who didn't give a damn about her and was petty useless in fight and weakest character to become strongest female character in shippuden just by going to tsunade is massive plot armor. Dosu at chunin was shown as one of strongest character along with sasuke, Naruto, gaara, neji, 6 gate Lee, shino. I know where you get at with Dosu but we have to consider that he had still a month left to train from the point he attacked gaara so he perhaps got to a higher level than his current form because he wants to fight Sasuke and doesn't want to get possessed by Shikamarus shadow again.
A big thing you ignore is that the sand siblings were hiding their abilities / nerfed in the arc Temari didn't use summoning Gaara didn't use the stuff he pulled against Kimmimaro and Kankuro didn't use a lot a tricks he used on Sakon fight.
Also people talk abt Naruto but Shika had the biggest plot armor considering how Temari wrecked Tayuya she should have bombed him like how do you go from not being able to cut a tree to wiping out a whole forest in 1 arc.

Temari fought Sasuke while he was pursuing Gaara. Konkurro even tells her she won't hold out long. She doesn't do anything huge even though she definitely would if she could. She legit thinks she is fighting to the death to protect Gaara

to give Shino some credit. I believe he would take a blow from Sasuke, grab his arm or put him in a hold of some kind and then have his insects crawl over to Sasuke's body. That's game over for Sasuke unless he brings out the Curse Mark and overfeeds the insects with too much chakra. I don't see that happening considering Kakashi's warning though.
Crazy thing if this was set in the Yu Yu Hakusho universe, they would still proceed with the tournament (or what's left of it) after the interruption is concluded despite the chaos. haha.
The biggest weakness of puppet master jutsu is the user. If Kankuro was exposed like that on an open field, shino would've won much easily
Naruto never summons the toads to be honest, so many moments he could have used in the series, and he just doesn't do it.
if i were Dosu, i would put an alarm clock in the arm device. Assuming theyre both standing 20ft or so apart from each other, as soon as the match starts, he rushes Shikamaru to get close, throwing kunai and shuriken, knowing he has to interupt his hand signs so he cant start shadow possession. With the chance that he still gets shadow possession off and Dosu doesnt get his own jutsu off, the clock starts vibrating, allowing the device to activate, and use his chakra to direct it towards Shikamaru. Earplugs arent going to work because of the fight with Choji proving he doesnt need a direct line to the eardrum, any kind of earplugs will lessen the effect but not enough to maintain shadow possession. Dosu then breaks free and takes him out quickly unless Shikamaru jumps backwards to create distance and try to put him out of range of Dosu's chakra directed soundwaves. At that point you could then say that Shikamaru technically wins in the same way he won against Temari, by getting the capture. If however Shikamaru doesnt create distance then he would be incapacitated.
Shikamaru would have to have learned a new technique to handle sound waves which is unlikely due to his character, as seen with how he came up with counter-attacks on the fly against Temari.
So i give it to Dosu. However with Temari having control of wind and air with her fan, she would probably nullify Dosu's jutsu outright and win.
But you cant just say "Shikamaru would know how to win" and leave it at that.

The fact that my favourite character Shino made it to the finals is good enough for me! One of the most underrated characters in Naruto in my opinion. Loved the video and logic behind all your arguments! The only thing I’d say that was missing would be the fact that if Shino did make it to the finals, I’m pretty sure he’d be training as well (Like Naruto, Sasuke etc did) and he might’ve acquired new Jutsus, or ways to counter his weakness being fire style. But all that would be speculation. Nonetheless I do agree that Sasuke would win the Chuunin Exams. Great video keep up the amazing content!

Sasuke was able to use the same speed as weightless lee but at the expense of his stamina dropping fast. We see him exhausted and lee even comment on that . Attrition isn't for him i tell you.
We know from lee that the 5 gates is the hidden move he was preparing to drop neji. That mean weightless lee isn't a problem for neji . That is also reinforced when we see an unimpressed neji witnessing weightless lee drop gaara.
Also the neji who dropped kidomaru in the Sasuke rescue arc is the same one from the chunin exam. There is nothing thing that imply he got stronger. If you are going to say the 128 strikes well there is nothing that tell us he didn't already knew the move before but chose not to use it because he didn't taught it would be necessary to drop naruto which is true since naruto fell after the 64 strikes.

Been a while since I've watch it so I'll just analyze the thumbnail: I remember Naruto being stronger than Sasuke at this point. When they went after Gaara it was Naruto who saved him and put up a better fight even before summoning Gamabunta. Assuming Gaara keeps his bloodlust in check, he should still beat Sasuke, and Naruto would not have as much motivation to go all out with Kurama's chakra, so he would also lose. Pretty sure the guy from the sound (Dosu?) was killed by Sasuke already. Shino and Gaara would be the finalists in ghat image, and I would expect Shino to win against a relatively calm Gaara.

Sasuke would be one of the more obvious choices, but I believe Shino has a higher chance of winning. He has more favorable matchups due to how his insects function. He's essentially a checkmate shinobi. Once his insects are where he wants them, it's essentially his win or a tie.
His chakra devouring insects could shut down Gaara's magnet release if enough of them are mixed into his sand. For insance, if the insects managed to get inside his gourd (which is filled with chakra-dense sand that Gaara used to grind rocks and minerals in the ground into more sand to control via his Magnet Release), it would prevent Gaara from doing much without infusing sand with more chakra. The insects would likely manage to swarm him before that could happen. Gaara would have a very uphill battle unless Shukaku was released.
As for Naruto, he tends to fall victim to just about every enemy jutsu at least once. He would almost certainly fall victim to the chakra insects and wouldn't have a reliable means of getting them off him during the Chunin Exam Arc. He would have the chakra to power through and attack Shino even if he got covered in the insects, but would likely go down without relying on the Nine Tails Chakra.
Sasuke is the only matchup I think Shino would have a problem with, but Sasuke's chakra reserves are low and he would go down quicker than the other. But considering he could use Fire Nature jutsu and had trained to move nearly as fast as Rock Lee, he could just as easily put Shino on the backfoot.

I don't buy at all Sasuke beating Naruto at that point in the story. Sasuke lost against phase 1 Shukkaku and Naruto beat it, that's also part of Sasuke inferiority complex. The mental amp argument doesn't keep up because guess who also got a mental amp saying "I am an avenger" and remembering Itachi, that's Sasuke. We could speculate all we want, but the evidence about the scaling and feats of these characters say otherwise.

Naruto literally got a mental amp and sasuke had none, he also used pretty much all of his chakra by going over the limit of the chidori he should be able to use at that age
I been saying my boy Shino shoulda got promoted with his performances, bro was putting in work and got done dirty because Kankuro dropped out.
I like how it DID play out in the show, in a way that's no hold's barred. Shino tied with Kankuro. Sasuke lost to Gaara (cursed seal shenanigans) and Naruto beat Gaara (Gamabunta vs Shikaku). The only question mark was Temari.
I think that was handled in two mindsets.
1. She was really beaten by Shikamaru. He definitely had more chakra left than he said given what he accomplished not much later. He just used the least amount possible to prove he COULD beat her, cus winning would've been a drag.
2. Sasuke beat her before really fighting Gaara.
She basically just had to do what Shikamaru was originally going to have to do- fight an extra match.

I really feel like Naruto vs Sasuke here does depend on whether or not Naruto manages to tap into Kurama's chakra. And also, the timing of it - he probably loses if it triggers pre-Chidori, but if he can use it to reg from the Chidori, he may be able to push Sasuke into a corner.
This Might force Sasuke to trigger the Curse mark, but if he does that he's doomed against Shino
If Sasuke triggers the curse mark, then Kakashi would put a stop to the fight and Sasuke would lose.

We basically got all of the Chuunin Exam matches even though Orochimaru interrupted.
Naruto beat Neji, Gaara beat Sasuke, Shino and Kankuro tied, Shikamaru gave up against Temari, and Naruto and Gaara tied leaving Temari as the winner by default.
Well we did see Temari lose quickly to Sasuke after trying to slow him down from chasing Gaara.

Honesty I can see Shino taking the win high difficulty in this scenario.
Sasuke would be very much drained compared to Shino going into the fight (Having to use his 2nd chidori, his sharingan and a few fire jutsu against Naruto).
Now if Shino manages to drain Sasuke even more this is gonna be bad for him, especially when you consider Sasuke didnt notice Shino placed a bug on him

Also with the gamabunta bit I think its a bit silly to compare him to Akamaru. One is a ninja hound with techniques specially suited to their owner, Kiba is a fundamentally incomplete fighter without Akamaru.
Although I do think Naruto would summon Gamabunta, it would just be for a gag moment to disqualify him, while at the same time setting Sasuke up to leave the village. Might even effect Sasuke's fight against Shino since he's shaken.

Except for it being too big it might not even fit in the arena/would be nearly impossible to not get bystanders involved, I don't see why Gamabunta would disqualify Naruto. The point of the chunin exams, besides the obvious of promotion, is to showcase the strength of their respective villages in the hopes of getting more missions, which means more money and status. If a mere genin of Konoha is summoning this gigantic ass toad, that makes Konoha look good.

I think Shino vs a tired and weakened Sazuke would be much closer than you think. Shino would likely not use his insects by having them fly straight towards Sazuke as he knows about the Ushihas using fire style. He would maybe use some insects like that as a distraction, but he would use most of them in a more hidden way. I could see him coating himself with insects so when Sazuke attacks him with Tai Jutsu, some of those insects on his body would stick to Sazuke and either dig into his skin or hide in his cloths. Shino would act like his insect shield has failed due to Sazuke being still so strong and fast, but that would be bait. In fact those hidden insects would emit some kind of ferromone that would attract other insects from around the village that would then go attack mode on Sazuke - those insects would not be controlled by Shino, those would be wild insects attacking on their own due to the ferromones, so Shine would not need to use Chakra for that attack. I think Sazuke would need to use a big fire jutzu to get out of that situation which would cause him to use up even more chakra, but he would be getting out of it and start launching his own attack - which is when Shino's second plan comes to play. He has other insects being hidden in the ground who attack Sazuke from below and start eating up his chakra. Because Sazuke's chakra being already diminished pretty much I would say that this would lead to the curse mark breaking out and likely Sazuke winning the fight with the cursemark before colapsing afterwards due to the negative effects. That would then also reveal the curse mark to everybody which then would mean the Hokage would try to remove it, but Sazuke would want to keep it for the extra powerboost it grants and because of that Sazuke would join Orochimaru and that would bring us back to the original story to some extent.
Shino would also be tired.

Shino thinks of a strategy quicker than you thought and he high miss her. And with Naruto vs Sasuke I don’t see a scenario where Naruto is unable to battle. He’d never give up until he’s out or dead.
I don’t think naruto would be able to use that much of kurama’s power like he did against gaara because against gaara, naruto’s life was in danger. In a fight against sasuke it would just be a rival fight without much stakes. I don’t even think he would be able to use gamabunta because he’s so big he might destroy the stadium. (Same reason I don’t think gaara would be able to fully release shukaku the way he did against naruto.) Naruto used kurama’s power against sasuke in the retrieval arc because the stakes were so high. Yet, naruto still lost that fight. Naruto was able to beat neji because he had to prove a point. Naruto wanted to beat sasuke and he would’ve put up one hell of a fight but I don’t think he was ready to push himself the way he did against neji. (Plus at this point in the series, naruto and sasuke were arguably getting along the best they did in the whole series. Especially since before the prelims, sasuke acknowledged naruto’s strength and that he wanted to test his strength against him which solidified them as friendly rivals on an equal ground.) Though I could definitely be wrong.
