Dark Cloud is a very special game from my childhood that contributed to shaping my creativity and imagination. This project took several months to complete with some moments where I wanted to abandon because I wasn't satisfied enough with the quality. But I pushed through! It's not as perfect as I'd like but I am proud of the final result, please enjoy and thanks for listening! 😄
I can't believe I'm 3 months late! Well, better late than never hehe. Honestly, Dark Cloud is the same for me, it's my favorite video game of all time and a factor as to why I'm a writer!
The Music of Dark Cloud is what makes the game feel so much better to play, digging into my soul as I play the game about Loss, losing friends thanks to the Dark Genie, a forest kid losing his dad to a serpent, a fisherman losing his love who drowned herself, even a king who sold his soul to a warlock to save his kingdom only to lose his love.
Why are all these talented Dark Cloud fans coming out of the woodworks these past few years to make amazing stuff like what you just did? I am totally here for it and I hope the franchise gets a resurgence, I'd settle for a remaster series but one can hope to finally see a third installment.
Jesus, when this came up on my feed so many things went through my head. "No fucking way someone did this, this is so much dedication." Was the main thing. xD THANK YOU for providing an experience for people. To be able to reimagine and relive the entire game in 8bit just with your creation here isn't something I'd ever expect to get for free. I really love your rendition of The Spirit King, which is my favorite song without a doubt.
The fact that you managed to recreate that ominous droning sound that plays throughout and fogs up "The Spirit King" in retro 8-bit style is insane to me, you really did these tracks justice. Incredible work.
Oh my goodness, this is amazing!! I’m currently playing Dark Cloud again for the billionth time (just got to Queens) so I couldn’t have found this at a more perfect time 💜 thank you so much for making this masterpiece!!
Holy SHIT, I can't believe I just STUMBLED onto something this cool! This must have taken a lot of work and time, and it SHOWS! Thanks for the nostalgia and straight JAMS!
Dude I'm a huge audio nerd / independant producer and I think you just inspired me to take on this challenge for the 2nd game. I love this so much you dont understand how much nostalgia you bring back with this, this game and dark cloud 2 was my entire childhood. Thank you for not only taking this on but doing so to such a high standard. I think I'm going to start chipping away at these! I'd love to chat with you on your process sometime, i'll hit you up on twitter if you dont mind.
The music is my favorite part of the game I wasn't a big fan of the hydration mechanic or dual I enjoy the second game more than the first game but I still enjoy it
This is absolutely incredible. The Dark Cloud soundtrack is gaming's best and this is an absolutely faithful recreation. You've done exceptionally well
Dude, this genuinely makes me wanna cry. Dark Cloud was the first game I ever completed as a kid. It's still my favorite game ever. The dedication and love put into this project is astounding. ;; Thank you
This can't make me any happier with the reason being it's litterally uploaded upon my Birthday...you did my day today, it's so perfect this game and the community behind it...💙 I'd love to see if the tracks would be downloadable and listen them to my PC somehow
You took a timeless classic and made it into a retro masterpiece. Absolutely phenomenal job! I've been thinking about this game lately so it was a really nice surprise coming across this. Made my day.
Been listening to the soundtrack all day then this. It’s strange. I didn’t know I cared as much as I did about this game. Listening to music and getting to it emulate on my computer after buying a physical copy I’m shocked how much I find myself tearing up just playing it. Mechanically as a game has issues and I acknowledge that but damn I didn’t realize how deep this was really embedded in my heart. This is my first exposure to your content. As far as I’m aware I’m glad it was this Godspeed.
This brings me so much joy ;0; thank you. I am astounded that a chiptune version, or really any remixes of Dark Cloud even exist. BUT NOW I KNOW. I will treasure this soundtrack you've made
The fact you spent time and effort out of your life to show appreciation for this game is outstanding! Thank you for making something we can all admire!
Oooh, that chiptune version of Queens sends me back man. The early days of downloading VGM midis from websites with marble backgrounds and running them through a crusty converter to turn any midi to a chiptune that probably gave you a couple viruses. Great work, this is all real impressive (and a lot better than the autogenerated ones I used to make, haha)
Just last year I could finally play this game on a ps2 Emulator! I grew up only having played the ps2 demo and was so happy to finally revisit the game and actually completing it. You combining these relatively fresh memories with lovely chiptune energy was a pleasant surprise, it made the start of the new year much more comforting. Thanks a lot 💜 My favourite track from the OST is Wise Owl Forest and you made it sound soooo magical !
I can't even start to describe how thoroughly impressed I am with this FULL OST masterpiece! Let alone how much I appreciate all the work and effort, but also love and care that went to create this for the whole world to hear. This game was a big part of my childhood and it was a very important game to me and my brother. We played it through many times. And we loved the music especially. So many exceptionally well created tracks here! The divine Beast Dran track sent countless chills down my spine and made my skin on goosebumps. Battle theme was also amazing, so was Queens, main theme, La Saia's theme, Dark Genie battle theme... Heck, they were all amazing! I hope you know you have made many people really happy with this! 😊 Liked and subscribed! I wish I could have these tracks in the actual game as an option! 😁
OMG, you nailed it man. I love this soundtrack, especially that opening theme, and hearing such a nostalgic song somehow turn even more nostalgic with the chiptune is just incredible. Dark Cloud is one of those games I'll always go back to. It's so good and had so many cool ideas, I really wish people kept making games like that.
If it werent for this game, id have never learned to play piano. Such a small cliffnote in the grand scheme of everything but such a fundamental building block in my character and personality. 😭🫡 youve done a wonderful thing with this
A teen gamer back in those days, this RPG was so unique and enjoyable. I am glad there exist a great Dark Cloud fan community doing these works. Greetings from Spain 🇪🇦 💚🧡
I'm glad to see some Dark Cloud love all these years later. This game is absolutely amazing and was easily one of my favorites growing up alongside Jak and Daxter and Ratchet & Clank
Just wow. How much effort and dedication you must have put into this project. The result is wonderful, my most sincere congratulations and gratitude, listening to versions of a game that is unfortunately so undervalued and that it is from the entire OST, is a gift
Holy wow, FlameCheese, talk about a labor of love! The sheer scale and magnitude of this project is insane, and I'm just in pure admiration of your drive to see this project to completion. It really warms my heart to see such passion and dedication towards a game. Across the board, I really enjoy the instrumentation here, with chipsynths that sound especially reminiscent of GBC music - I'm a huge sucker for that. 😁 And wow, making everything sound so tight in terms of drums and percussion is no small feat - given the limited selection of percussive sounds available to work with, you've created an amazing variety of beat styles with drive and energy! The amount of mileage you get with these sounds is remarkable, and the potential of each instrument is really maximized! And honestly, I think your choice to deviate a bit from using only official hardware sounds was well-made - if a project sounds better in the end for it (and this does!) then why not take some creative liberties? There are too many things that I enjoyed to list specifically (literally), but I do want to mention some of my favorite pieces... (also, I've never heard Dark Cloud's OST prior to this, so it's all a new listening experience for me) "Dark Genie Resurrection" is such a fantastic remix, and I love the percussive groove - it just sounds really cool when things get moving at around 7:06. The mood is dark and brooding, and it reminds me a bit of what you might hear in an intense section of Oracle of Ages or Seasons, like in a final castle level. "The Daily Life" just sounds very simple, yet poignant, and it's a pleasant tune. I'm especially fond of those grace notes - they add a lot of character to the melody. And the piece still retains a lighthearted energy, even in the absence of drums. "The Forest Guardian" - I love this one! Maybe it's partly because it sounds reminiscent of the G/S/C Game Corner theme, but that aside, it has such a fantastic groove in the drums and supporting harmonies. This is one I had to keep repeating before moving on... "Muska Lacka" is such a _cool_ piece, and I can see why it's one of your favorites, as well! It has this ominous atmosphere, but with a driving rhythmic element. The chords are complex and a bit unsettling, and the constant tension really keeps the listener on their toes! "The King's Curse"... okay, what?! That falling pitch in those upper notes is just perfect, and I love how slowly the pitch descends - it's definitely quite eerie, but it never sounds dissonant in a way that's unpleasant. The timing and volume of those descending notes are balanced superbly so they can be heard, but not to an overpower extent. And man, when you have it join in harmony with the sustained notes at 54:32, where one note stays on pitch but the other gradually falls is such a creative technique - that might be my favorite moment in the entire project, honestly, and it's something that's going to stick in my mind for a long time! "Black Shadow" sounds really dang cool, and it has that quintessential "you really don't want to be here" vibe, making you feel on edge, between the booming kick notes, the relentless hi hat and those mysterious ascending notes in the B section of the piece. "Gallery of Time" integrates some really cool techniques, like having those un-quantized notes at the start - that alone had me intrigued from the get-go, and the piece delivers with some interesting melodies laid over unsettling harmonies. Like, I imagine this place isn't meant to be evil, but there's something that you need to be wary of, or maybe that it's been corrupted somehow - that's the feeling I'm getting from listening! "Dark Genie Final Form" is my favorite, straight-up. It's such a complex and cool song, and it gets me so pumped up listening to it! The beat is fantastic and has such incredible syncopation, and the supporting harmonies add even more drive with those unrelenting 8th and 16th notes. Also, that sort of eerie siren-like sound playing in the upper octaves just adds a layer of intensity and danger, and everything comes together perfectly to create such a distinctly powerful atmosphere. I was dancing in my seat while listening to this one, I kid you not! And these are the gems among gems for me. Again, I can't express enough how much I admire your dedication to this project. From the timestamped tracks in the description (with markers on your personal favorites, which I love), to the visuals clearly displaying each track name with a nice bit of animation in the background... and of course the massively diverse selection of music. I don't know how you did it in mere months, but it's crazy impressive! I'm happy to see this get such a solid response already, and I hope it gains much more traction over time, as well! Fantastic work, my friend! 💛
Thank you so much for the kind words and analysis ❤ It is nice to have a point of view from someone who never listened to the original soundtrack. It's true that Forest Guardian sounds like G/S/C Game Corner haha I had not noticed until you mentioned it. About Gallery of Time, you are right it's not meant to be an evil place but it has been corrupted by darkness, it's the last dungeon before the final boss
@@FlameCheese Yeah, of course! :D Thanks very much for the detailed reply! It's nice to know that I wasn't too far off the mark with how I perceived these songs - you did an excellent job conveying the atmosphere for each piece through the music!
the way i am going absolutely feral, frothing at the mouth, and convulsing on the floor over this :3 this is my favorite game soundtrack and i feel like im listening to it for the first time thank u for making this!
Thank you for doing this, they sound amazing! I loved the Dark Cloud games, and for someone to have the dedication to do this... my eyes lit up when I saw this video.
Just want to say I'm so glad this was recommended to my feed. UA-cam has been recommending me smaller channels that make incredible music now because I'm into the scene too. Can't believe you arranged the entire soundtrack. I never owned Dark Cloud but I played the demo as a kid and it was such a cool game I wish I had. These video games and anime for example can really define who we are and our creativity. These composers put their heart into these compositions and so did you in remixing them. I'm subbed! 😁
Dawg, I almost never take the time to actually comment on YT videos, but this is deserving of praise. The Dark Cloud soundtracks are legendary, and you've done an incredible job remaking DC1 in 8-bit. Sounds soooo good, dude. Trying to decide which track is gonna be my new ringtone. Huge respect, homie. No pressure, but can we expect a DC2 remix? :)
As someone who has the Dark Cloud sound track on their everyday playlist. This is actually amazing. I am sorry I haven't found this sooner. Gives me the same chills as when I hear the original sound track. Thank you.
I actually started to tear up when the beginning of this started to play. I wish I'd found this sooner, because it's awesome. So much love for this game and its soundtrack and I love hearing or seeing any content related to it. It's a very special game to me, and it's so awesome to see that others love it too.
I respect and thank you a lot for your work on this. It's so nice to see this game get attention these days, and it really hits the nostalgia nerve. Amazing job!
Dark Cloud is a classic i have returned to multiple times. And there's always been a part of me that would love seeing it remade and enhanced with modern technology... but this music is so great and perfect i now believe a retro remake wouldn't be amiss either❤ (as an edit if it ever was remade i anlm of the opinion that they should do more than just "remake" dark cloud 2... that needs a full rework)
This is...impressive!!! Heck, I could see this in a GBA or DS de-make of the game, lol!!! Level 5 is one my my favorite developers...played everything of theirs on the PS2, and all of the Professor Layton games. Dark Cloud is what started it all!!! Would you consider doing Dark Cloud 2 / Dark Chronicle?
Dark Cloud was one of the first games I played on PS2, probably before I knew how to properly read LOL I played it throughout my childhood, and even as an adult, I still play it from time to time. It has a special place in my heart, so I wanted to thank you for sharing your hard work and talent. I've been listening to this on repeat as I'm studying for my board exams and it's really helped me focus. Thank you!!!
Normally i dont really Comment on YT, but Damn, thats some Next Level Thing going on here. Awesome Piece of Work. Keep it up pls. Love the 2 Games and it reminds me of my Time with my Gramps who got more than 300h in it.
This is actually amazing. Dark Cloud has always had a special place in my childhood too. The soundtrack is 100% underrated. Let me find out you have midi files available for download!
Ive played DC through multiple times since I was a kid. One of my siblings and I stayed up playing it late into the night every time they were with us. I adore this version, its so playful and familiar!
This game came out after I was born, but still holds to be my most nostalgic and favorite game. You've done something so incredible and beautiful, and brought back so many memories through your creativity. Thank you so much
love love love dark cloud! Definitely a childhood of mine along with other folks I see. Still have the PS2 game on my shelf and Dark Cloud 2. We need another Dark Cloud game...just sayin.
Hell yes! Dark Cloud was one of my favorite games growing up, it still holds a special place in my heart, and the soundtrack is one of if not the best in my opinion. Props to you for putting in all this effort, including the cutscene-only tracks. These sound great, thank you for making this!
I'm glad I came across this, spent the best part of a day with this looping in the background. Always enjoyed some chiptune music and loved Dark Cloud as maybe my first PS2 game (not entirely sure, but first I remember for sure). I never completed it til maybe 2017 at a guess, but it'll always be a fantastic game, revisiting it then reminded me just how great it was. Certainly some tracks that stand out among the rest, but hearing the whole soundtrack like this is great. Definitely did an amazing job with it.
holy shit?!?!?! This is amazing!!! I love it so much. You did such a good job!! Also the pixel art for it is amazing too! I've been trying to get into game dev and my hope is to create a 2D/pixel version of Dark Cloud as a personal project, and as a way to practice pixel art. I think that is still a long way away and I can only hope to get as good as you.
Dark Cloud is a massive nostalgia trip for me, and you've done an awesome job on this soundtrack. I hope people keep discovering this, you deserve recognition
I cannot stress how impressed with your project I am. Seriously, If art is a medium for imagination and creativity, I was literally picturing the game in 8 bit as perfection itself accompanied it. This, my friend, is art. Thank you for your hard work, and I can only imagine how looking back at this project, you feel pride that you persevered over your fears and procrastination. That's an accomplishment on its own, and what you did is truly amazing. Thank you. Sincerely, for your hard work. -Knox
Nice work! This was one of the very first console games I ever played. Still love the hell out of it to this day and its music remains fantastic and well suited to this kind of remix. Kudos!
Dude, this honestly rocks. There's a lot of love and dedication put into it, the sounds just click so perfectly and faithfully, and you do it in such a clean, true-to-original manner that it can't help but bring a smile to the face of an old fan.
Amazing stuff Flamecheese! I never played Dark Cloud but the soundtrack sounds dope and among the better jrpg OSTs. My favorites are Divine Beast Dran, If you Strain your Ears, Dark Genie Final Form and Black Knight Pendragon!
Holy Freaking Cow! This is amazing! I was doubtful when this popped up in my feed, but this is amazing! I subscribed after hearing the first track! I am still in awe of how you turned Wise Owl Forest into a more of bop than it already is!
Coming from someone who avidly played Dark Cloud like a fucking mad child, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. This game is so special to me. Growing up with my cousins, we could barely afford the new consoles, so we always had our aunts and uncles hand me downs. One day, we walked into a game rental store and purchased this game for $5. Those next 8 years of my life were nothing but an obbsession over that game. I remember fondly having so much difficulty with the Dran fight because my 6 year old mind wouldn't put it together that I needed Xiao to take him down (I never leveled her weapons up and whenever I reached those dungeon zones that had forced me to use her, I had mild panic attacks😂). I had to have my cousin help me because I spent months trying to figure it out. I would sit in area's and leave the PS2 running as I listened to the soundtrack, Queens, Broken Promise, and Legend of Ungaga were some of my favorites. You've done exceptional work recreating every single one of these tracks, If at all possible, would these be alright for public use? With full credit, I have been planning on making a deep dive or sort of a breakdown to this game and why it's so charming and magical to me. Going over various topics from the games gameplay system to its lore and soundtrack. It would be an honor if these chiptune covers are available for use as BGM music for said video, just a thought, of course!
All tracks in .mp3 are now available to download! You can use these tracks in any project you want, credits are not necessary but appreciated.

As an avid and fellow Dark Cloud fan, I thank you for this masterpiece.
I feel the same about this game and dark cloud 2, them two gems of the PS2 library.
Best game series of all time. Love the pixelated Dark Genie - you gotta make that a sticker or slap it on a t-shirt!

Thanks! Yes I couldn't just do a couple of songs 😅
@@FlameCheese You're one devoted mofo of a fan.
Matataki Village and Wise Owl Forest! 😍😍🔥Those alternating keys in WOF are really cool
Warms my heart to see love for this series twenty years later. Thank you for this.
The Battle Theme just sounds like I'm in a pokémon battle.
Love most of the soundtracks!

One of the best videogame soundtracks ever, and this reimagining is perfect! Thank you for making this. Here’s hoping for a Dark Cloud remaster!
the way i am going absolutely feral, frothing at the mouth, and convulsing on the floor over this :3 this is my favorite game soundtrack and i feel like im listening to it for the first time thank u for making this!
FREAKING LOVELY JOB! I loved Dark Cloud growing up, and hearing this just brings so much joy!
Thank you.
This is amazing! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this!
The Wise Owl Forest track kicks ass!
I wish I had the talent to do this for Dark Cloud 2. This is amazing!
Criminally low view count on this. Excellent work!
Normally i dont really Comment on YT, but Damn, thats some Next Level Thing going on here. Awesome Piece of Work. Keep it up pls.
Love the 2 Games and it reminds me of my Time with my Gramps who got more than 300h in it.
OMG I LOVE THIS??? you captured the songs PERFECTLY!!! 10/10!!!
Dark Shrine Ceremony sounds a-maze-ing!!! Perfect for spooky season 😍
I’m most excited to hear the cover of Queens, personal favorite track of mine.
As expected of Queens, masterclass
This game came out after I was born, but still holds to be my most nostalgic and favorite game. You've done something so incredible and beautiful, and brought back so many memories through your creativity. Thank you so much
This is awesome. Love it! Dank Cloud is one of my favorite RPGs of all time :D
Brother, what the hell, this is amazing! Just what i needed
Never knew how much I needed 8-bit Queens in my life. Thank you!
Awesome! I hope you also make Dark Cloud 2's OST. If this one is so cool, I'm sure the latter will be even better.
this is INCREDIBLY impressive, and deserves a lot more attention. so much love in here.
love love love dark cloud! Definitely a childhood of mine along with other folks I see. Still have the PS2 game on my shelf and Dark Cloud 2. We need another Dark Cloud game...just sayin.
If you haven't already you should post this to the dark cloud subreddit. Awesome job! What is your process??? Do you do this by ear?
wise owl sounds amazing, and other tracks as well, thanks!!!
The way you recreated the "vocals" for divine beast dran... Perfect!
holy shit?!?!?!
Now someone needs to make a full GBA version of the game because this could be straight up copy pasted into it. This is absolutely amazing! 😳
If U play on an emulated on pc or android U can just copy and paste into the music files obviously replacing the he original normal ones.

Absolutely amazing, a dream come true. Thank you so much
Whaaaat an absolute banger! Thank you so much!!
Came for Norune Village theme... was not disappointed.
This is SO cool!! Thanks for making 🤗
Holy moly. You're a God. Thank you for this.
-Knox
This is amazing! Massive props bro
Omg I’m so glad I found this!
Nice work! This was one of the very first console games I ever played. Still love the hell out of it to this day and its music remains fantastic and well suited to this kind of remix. Kudos!
OK, now this is awesome!
🔥💯 Good cover 👍
Dude, this honestly rocks. There's a lot of love and dedication put into it, the sounds just click so perfectly and faithfully, and you do it in such a clean, true-to-original manner that it can't help but bring a smile to the face of an old fan.
Amazing stuff Flamecheese! I never played Dark Cloud but the soundtrack sounds dope and among the better jrpg OSTs. My favorites are Divine Beast Dran, If you Strain your Ears, Dark Genie Final Form and Black Knight Pendragon!
Awesome work. Love this game. Thanks for sharing!
Holy Freaking Cow! This is amazing! I was doubtful when this popped up in my feed, but this is amazing! I subscribed after hearing the first track! I am still in awe of how you turned Wise Owl Forest into a more of bop than it already is!
Incredible. Well done 🤘
Thank you for your hard work on this! I love it.
I honestly fn love this. This is so well done!
Hey yeah feel free to use the music in your project, there is a link with all the tracks in .mp3 in the pinned comment
