James Dean - "I don't want any kind of love anymore"

  • A clip from the movie East Of Eden (1955). Starring: James Dean as Cal Trask, Julie Harris as Abra, and Raymond Masssey as Adam Trask (Cal's Father). In the ending of this scene, Cal confesses to his father that he doesn't want his love or anyone esle's anymore. Lines that I think, goes deeper than the script, and may have pertained to Jimmy's personal life as well. And the way he expresses it in this scene is very heartbreaking.

James Dean was one of the best actor of all times. East of Eden , the best of his movies. Unforgotten.

The best performance of James Dean's career; he accomplished more in his three films: "Rebel Without a Cause", East of Eden" and "Giant" than most actors could ever hope for in a lifetime. I think had he lived as long as Marlon Brando - he would have had a career just as accomplished and significant as his.

The final scene of this film, when Cal forgives his father, and himself, James Dean pulls emotions from his guts that are so honest and overpowering, I am decimated to a weeping mess. My eyes are welling up now, as I write, just thinking about it. We'll never see anything like him again. Men are too scared to reach that deeply into their souls nowadays.

I love his mumbling after he goes in the house. In great film acting, the line between "reel" and "real" is invisible.

I love this scene! The way he used the swing in this scene made it so much better & the scene before this when he tells his brother to say hello to his mother & he looks like a total psychopath grinning at his brother's misery. He was such a great actor!

This is fantastic. Phenomenal performance. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. James was Cal. His performances throughout East of Eden like this were so personal and moving. It was just so real...HE was just so real. He was a real as you could get 'em. I love you Jimmy

James Dean was one of the greatest actors ever. Being overrated is impossible for James. You can never give James too much credit...because he deserves every bit of it.

Just found out we are having a son today, had the 20 week scan! His name? Caleb. I always vowed if I had a son I would call him Caleb. I have loved James Dean all my life!

It seems Dean turns a switch at 1:36. He becomes so personal. What a beautiful, tortured legend.

Camera swinging. Flips. Off kilter. Hearing "righteous" words as a child, but something deep inside ringing a bell as if to say, "There's something wrong in Bangkok, or Eden as the case may be." This scene stays with me always. There is such sadness in longing for love, and the measures to which we go.

The line is taken from the Bible: "Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"
Cal and Aron are meant to be allusions to the biblical character Cain and Abel.

I haven't seen this movie in this entirety yet but I've read the book numerous times. Caleb Trask is probably my favourite fictional character of all time. I'm changing my name when I'm older (for honest reasons) and Caleb is the name I chose. Firstly because I love the meaning of the name, and secondly because Caleb Trask is an amazing character.

    2. going to read the book that its based off of
    3. James Dean is HOT!

actually, he worked incredibly hard to get to where he got to before his passing. He was a star in Broadway before movies and also did some notable TV work as well. To say he got to where he was on looks is laughable as all Hollywood actors from that time were not only talented, but incredibly good-looking. Brando? Clift? Newman? Hudson? All good-looking, but talented like James Dean was.

Why did he have to leave is so early??? ;-( It was the same with Bruce Lee. I'm not comparing their acting ability, but It's a shame we didn't have just a few more films to remember them by. Even just 1 more film each would have been great. Both died so young & left only a small body of work, but what they DID leave,...shall be eternally treasured & remembered.

I agree that Heath was an exceptionally talented actor who died young/before his time. Had he lived, there's no doubt he'd only have gotten better. BUT he had a fairly substantial # of films (19). My list was more about actors who died before their time & left only a small # of films (w/many or all of them regarded as classics/masterpieces). So in the respect, I'd sooner add an actor like John Cazale, ("Fredo Corleone" in The Godfather) but exclude actors like River Phoenix, John Belushi, etc.
