From what I saw on Twitter the common theory is that Microsoft is worried about changing the core aspects of the game since it’s such a huge money maker which is why the April fools update is so big since it’s meant as a joke and nothing serious
It’s another example of big companies not wanting to take risks
Which only proves that the updates becoming lazier and worse over time isn't entirely Mojangs fault.
Yet, if they did take said risks you would get toxic and complain about it.

The system behind updates for the game needs to change because the devs behind Mojang have proved that when given time they can lock in and produce actual good content for the game. I'm not saying that Mojang doesn't deserve some of the blame here because they absolutely do, but I don't think it's entirely their fault for the bad and lackluster updates we've been getting recently. Microsoft is also to blame.

Quick side note from someone actively pursuing game development and doing side projects, This shit is not easy. From having a good vision, theme, making it creative, then coding it really solidifies how much time and effort it really takes. I envy the employees at Mojang because they have the creative potential to create amazing things but Microsoft just isn't on the same page and I think that's a damn shame. In my eyes, they were promised creative freedom, and then given creative imprisonment.
Honestly couldn't say it better myself. I can't wait for Microsoft to get into the crosshairs of the ground angry with mojang, as that should convince Microsoft to let mojang do their thing, and the amount of cool stuff that will be added will be so fun.

I really don't understand Tellio's argument of "It doesn't go with Minecraft's core design philosophy at all!", I mean, it doesn't make really any sense.
The reason why it doesn't fit Minecraft is because it's new lmao. A new feature isn't gonna strike the same MC feel unlike, say, a Charged Creeper because 1 has just recently been added to the game while the other has been in the game for years now.
What even IS "Minecraft's Design Philosophy"? As far as I'm concerned, as long as it's blocky, it fits MC lol
This same problem happens with Terraria, something new gets added then people say “it doesn’t feel like Minecraft/Terraria thing” complain then forget it was ever not in the game like 2 years later, also I’d like to add Minecraft is a sandbox style game with some survival game aspects just to add the feeling of progression imo so almost anything could be added (fitting with the art style and themes they’ve now established obviously)

I can guarantee you the most popular SMPs were modded or edited from the base game. The most entertaining Minecraft tournaments and games are from modded versions of Minecraft.
These people gatekeeping Minecraft's evolution is the reason why people complain.
It also incentiveses not installing mods if its already in the game.
Floatater is cool and all but why do people say it should be added in base game? Several people complained that the Elytra already made other forms of transportation (like minecarts) useless.
But then they want a block that can move a ton of block at lightspeed.
(Unless it received heavy nerfs or was creative only I dont get why people want this in the base game)
It seems like something that would be added in the end update. Imagine the end city ships moving.

Minecraft updates in recent years
2018: Revamped the entire oceans of Minecraft that usually cover over 50% of a world
2019: Revamped the entire Villager systems, added Pillagers and tons of new functionality blocks
2020: Revamped the entire god damn nether demention and added a massive new structure, a new advanced mob with tons of new functionality
2021: Revamped the entire Cave Generation and entire World Generation, basically the single biggest update in Minecraft History, added 2 new cave biomes and many new overworld biomes
2022: Added the biggest structure in the game, one of the most unique and advanced technical mobs in the games history
2023: Added a bunch of customizable features, including Armour trims, a new Cherry Blossom biome literally everybody loves etc
2024: Added the most technically advanced structure in the game, a new type of chest that will solve looting issues in multiplayer, a new type of spawner thats more renewable, a new unique weapon that everybody loves, new combat features that will reshape minecraft pvp
Oh lets not forget Minecraft has 2 versions both coded in entirely different software, so they practically have to do these updates twice and make it compatible with every type of device.

Well guess what, a Minecraft developer revealed that none of them actually worked on the April Fools update, it was some other studio randoms that dont even work on the main game
2022-2024 could have all been added in one update IMO. Also I don’t remember 2022 adding the biggest structure in the game, can you please tell me what that is? I looked it up but I can’t find anything, because they added practically nothing in 2022.
Or at least, 2022-2023 could’ve been one update. IDK the fact that some random developers that aren’t related to the main game made an update with features that would be game changing, like a grappling hook, just kinda seems like someone corporate (not the devs themselves) is holding things back. The grappling hook and airship thingy features would actually add game changing features for the better, adding so much possibility and creativity, which is what minecraft is all about. IDK, that’s just my opinion tho.

2. I’ve been playing minecraft since ~ 2014 and now all I do is play hypixel or start servers that last two weeks. It’s a little sad that mods are needed to make the game more enjoyable (in my opinion), so that’s why I would prefer if some of these things were in the game.
3. I have beat terraria and also tried modded, but there was a lot of stuff that I didn’t exactly understand, and got quickly overwhelmed. If they added BIG updates to minecraft every year (bigger than they currently are) we get time to figure out what things are and how to use them (unless it’s copper 😭). But a new boss (which we have been asking for), a grappling hook, and a block that makes redstone flying machines so much simpler are SO much more than copper, spyglasses (which most people just use a client to get) and a few new biomes that are mostly retextured old ones.

Its not a little sad thats mods can make the game enjoyable. Its literally the opposite.. Minecraft has tens of thousands of mods, youre encouraged to try them out after youve done everything from the base game. Minecrafts modding community is by far the best and I dont see how thats “sad”
Tbf the update being pushed rn is really good. Basically being a dungeon update, massive changes to the pvp meta, really cool new mobs. Generally pretty up to standard for minecraft updates. 1.20 and even 1.19 however, yeah they were ass in retrospect
They werent “ass updates” they added good quality features. The problem is besides the cherry blossoms and the armour trims, the features are just not very common to come across
i dont think people realize the reason real updates take so long is because they're serious, go through days of playtesting, and have actual thought in them, and this is just retextured blocks and mobs

People need to realize the reason why we're not getting more content on actual update is because Microsoft won't let Mojang cook a lot of the time and very strict at it
Put it this way if enough people complain about not having these things like a grapple hook then the developers at mojang will have more of a voice pushing it into the game. Just watch. The grapple hook will be a real thing soon with durability, enchantments and anvil fixing.
Or maybe the community can just be patient for once, april fools features are a way for mojang to test new features before adding em

@@trulybarr5341 grapple when you fall into a chasm? Grapple items to you? Grapple enemys? Swing across lava? Grapple up to a boat when you're in water running out of breath? Fast ascending? Created courses? Trust there's plenty of uses mojang can add this to the game. You could add tnt to it and create a bomb on a chain?
@@MetalGearMk2 fishing rods already pull items and mobs toward you, grappling in cave systems seem pretty niche though since most of the time, the ceiling is too low. Using it in maps and courses seem pretty cool though
the complaining is pretty exaggerated considering the nether update was in 2020 and caves and cliffs came soon after, completely overhauling world generation - it’s still valid, but often exaggerated

I want to think that mods are the main reason they haven't been able to go buck wild of the updates. Mods are semi more safer and let you customize how you want the game, but it takes effort and sometimes just isn't as fun as some official updates.

Jokes aside, I feel bad that April Fools is where Mojang gets to stretch out what they can do, That comment about Mojang being bogged down by bureaucracy is definitely an important one. I think Microsoft should let Mojang make the game and not care about how the updates turn out like the currently do. I despise Minecraft Live Votes because it's done in the worst way. There's so many things Mojang has promised for the game in past Minecraft Live Votes, making additions to the Savannah, Desert and Badlands biomes with new mobs, flora and fauna to give examples, though we've already seen them add Swamps and Frogs, which remains the exception. "It doesn't fit Minecraft" is beneficial for Microsoft because it means Minecraft doesn't need to do much to keep someone interested and consuming the product-rather than seeing it from the angle of making an enjoyable game with updates that keeps players excited. That doesn't mean every update has to be big, but I think it means content updates for games shouldn't be held back by the level of approval and marketing in the way it currently is, think about "Bedrock Parity" when you have no Furnace Minecarts or Bundles on Bedrock Edition, when if Minecarts were introduced in an update now-a-days they would not be left in the current state they are in (not only can you not couple Minecarts together, but switch and crossover tracks are nonexistant, something essential to making a Minecart network, for how boring that sounds to me (because I can't make the minecarts look like rail railroad things that I built myself out of blocks and glued together).
i completely agree, it's like the same people who want more updates have never heard of mods and they literal want exactly that, if the base game is to plain play modded! the base game should stay fresh and clean and more importantly optimized for those with not the best computers

This might sound weird but what if mojang like with bedrock edition from what I remember, add specific worlds like this update should be its own world that you can go in and you are able to play around with the update. IDK just an idea

Floatater is very cool but it would make the point of minecarts in survival pointless (which people already got mad at the elytra for doing)

If mojang was smart they'd take some of these concepts and add them to the base game (grappling hooks, new bosses, floatator,). each of these things would add something for a type of player to enjoy.

Microsoft shouldn't be afraid of "bloat". Minecraft feels bloated with content already as it is, just lean more into it, that's what it's all about.

The end has been roughly the same since it was first added to the game. Every other dimension got some kind of rework or update to make them more appealing and modern.
It just needs new content. Plenty of mods have changed the end while still keeping the core feeling of the dimension itself.

April fools day has always been a way to test ideas the developers have for the game in a safe environment with the facade of being a joke, a great example is beds, which were originally an April fools day feature.
Mojang has a plan for minecraft and its development, if they were to just implement every idea they have then the gamme would be a unfun unpolished mess. The game needs slow mundane updates alongside the big bombastic ones because it makes it so that when people eventually come back to the game they see abunch of new things big and small that draws them back in.

I have to say that this joke update was more interesting than many of the real updates that the game has received.
