Here is a free course featuring Brent Roth about different ways to set up rappels through a canyon. This considers ease of rigging, abrasion, ease of rescue and how efficient it is to move people through the canyon.
    Episodes 1-5 show the systems,
Episode 6 shows how it can all be done with 1 device,
    Episodes 7-8 are friction tests,
Episodes 9-10 are break tests of the hardware and the knot blocks.
All the episodes are in the textbook

This series is so perfectly timed for the season! Canyoning isnt a huge sport in California and therefore there aren't a lot of (healthy) bolts on canyon routes. Do you guys have a natural anchors video? Retrievable and non-retrievable..? What rope systems/retrieval systems work best for which anchors (trees vs chockstones etc...)

Good question matt. I’m also interested

retrieval/anchor design will have more to do with the direction of pull and extension(or not) to the ledge, and obstacles to the pull than it does tree vs stone, etc. Having redundancy in your anchor is based on need and availability. Meat anchor if you can do so safely. Get familiar with slinging existing features and extending with webbing plus building deadmans, that will cover many situations needing natural anchors. They had a good video on the fiddlestick which is the go to retrievable in many instances. There's also retrivalable Deadman type equipment things ...bags you fill with sand then release but I've never used one.
And most importantly as to what works best: ua-cam.com/video/5r50PN99rGI/v-deo.html

I came back to the video without my glasses on, and the pattern on Brent's shirt blended with the rope so well I was trying to figure out if it was some crazy body rappel wrap or the result of a horrible accident with lot of rope lash.

Sooooo keen for the next video where Ryan gets quizzed. Haha I’m going to pause the video and think of what I would do and then see what’s actually being done

Been loving these canyon videos, and been wondering how this device works

We love our PaliKoas. Doesn't seem any bulkier and besides the added versatility than the critr or hoodoo, I like the consistency of the friction points.

The naming of the isolated and compound systems is so counter intuitiv, because in the isolated system the ropes to descend are connected and in the compound system the ropes are basically isolated from each other, to where it can be done with two not connected ropes.

I think once you get above 10 to 1 redundancy sort of takes care of itself
