Leaving the jack is smart. If you park the trailer on soft ground or it gets soft due to rain, you may be able to recover it more easily. It has happened to me a couple of times. Where it had sunk too much to get the ball under it, and I wasn't near other resources.

Nice job Ed. You have made a great start in transforming your trailer. May I suggest where you have the old tires and rims, that you jack up the trailer and place the rims under the new tires. That will give you great ground clearance to get under the trailer for all your re-wiring of the lights and brakes. Hitch to the truck to the trailer hitch coupler to secure it and you are good to go.
I'm just trying to help... Dan ☺

Nice work Ed. An easy way to wire something. Take an old wall plug in 6 volt to 12 volt charger transformer. Like for an old battery powered tool that doesn't work. Cut the plug off and test to find the hot wire. Put small alligator clips on the appropriate wire. Red for power black for ground. Then you can check your wiring without hooking up to your truck. You can also trace broken wires that way. Just plug in to a 110 outlet and you have DC power coming out your wires. Hook your ground and then your power and take your time checking wires. Just remember if only one brake light lights up that is turn signal for that side. Have a great day.

i have been welding for around 30 years now. i do it everyday for a living. with the little wire welders as you have here there is one rule of thumb that will help you... when using a stick welder drag it, when using a wire welder you push it. You was doing it right just backwards. always push wire and drag a stick. run wire hot and a stick cold as you can with out sticking and slow. hope this makes since to ya, it works and handed down from the old guys. 👍

Can't wait for your next video. I added Harbor Freight KENWAY 17" LED SLIMLINE STOP, TURN, and TAIL Lights to my trailer. 4 1/2 stars and only cost $12.99 each. I use electrical conduit pipes to protect my trailer wires.

I got me an ArcCaptain Mig200 after watching Lucas welding on his BX 3pt arms on Peak’s Peak. Maybe the best $350 I ever spent. Who knew I would love welding so much?!

Nice! I think I paid $400 for this welder used. I love it so much more than my old Lincoln stick welder.

I've had that problem while welding outside. It should hold just fine. I added 2 folding jacks on the rear of my dove tail trailer helps when loading heavy vehicles and not lifting my truck on the approach. Used both Eastwood encapsulator and Por 15, though more expensive I prefer the Por 15 more permanent.

Knowing how to weld is one skill I would like to have. Over the years I have picked up a few useful skills but welding is not one of them.

I just took old welding gloves and cut them up and pop riveted them to the edge of my helmet so it stops the sun and most importantly the sparks

I have the handler too, really nice 120 volt to have around the shop for everyday stuff. Your right mig welding with gas is so much better than flux core.

I’ve used other brands of rust encapsulator and in talking to tech support it’s not uv tolerant. It should be topcoated with paint. Really enjoy your channel Ed.

With the side jack you can probably let your tail gate down without hitting the jack.

Funny, new trailer but added jacks in back and LED lights. Dewalt grinder - same issues. The new blue logo batteries seem much better, but I have a HF corder grinder as well. Also, reinforced tailgate frame and added three extra hinges I made. Buddy got me a 16’ tandem trailer for $2,500. With upgrades, it’s pretty nice now.

On that welding cart change the casters to larger ones and get yourself a larger set of tires. You'll have an easier time dragging that set up in and out of your garage or shop. I have the same cart. I'm sure Harbor Freight or Northern Tool will have them.

That side jack is way better and faster. The center jack will end up bent and not being able to use. Just leave both of them on.

I have removed my tongue jacks and installed the side jack as you have. Reason is with the tongue jack you cannot put your tail gate down without hitting it

You need better wheels for the card. Also it is hard to weld with tht machine on 120. Nice bringing the trailer back.

Nothing is as satisfying as cleaning up some rusty metal and slapping a coat of black paint on them. I’m sure you should replace all the wires on that trailer as you could bet dollars to doughnuts that once you get the lights in place, the wire will have a break in it or mice will chew it. Will look forward to a fully loaded test run to see your big rig skills in action! Cheers🎉

    Great Job Ed..
Yes welding out side is a challenge.. I had never used one of those automatic welding shields until recently..
The first time I used mine it was like I should have gotten one a long time ago.. I was amazed.. I have been welding for almost 50 years.. It was an Awakening for me.. hahaha
As far as doing your wiring on your back on the ground.. WHY???? You have a tractor throw a chain on it and tip it right up… If you have to do one side at a time.. That’s how I do it on my trailers if I need to do that stuff…
You have the tool use it.
    Just my two cents..
Can’t wait for the next video..
    Cheers

We always show a bright led light close to the area we want to weld. That seems to help with the glare or shadows. Great job getting it done, it looks good with paint
