Hi Peter! I've been involved in aviation for nearly 50 years, and I am constantly inspired by your videos! I was wondering, have you considered launching an RC plane with GPS, goPro, and autopilot by weather balloon to 120,000 feet, then releasing it so that it records the event all the way back to the ground?
Having GPS and autopilot will enable it to find its way back to you - much less likely to be lost! :)
Thanks for all the great vids.

The counter rotasting fans permit a higher air pressure to drive the ir through server heat sinks. Great engineering. but as a consequence, you can duct the air to release at a higher velocity to correctly load up the fan motors. This will improve your power to weight ratio. They aren't designed to run without the counter rotation because the blades are quite high pitch and will result in spinning air more than pushing it if run individually. I had the same thought as you watching those runs running at hish speed on the air frame you made for slow regular PC fans 😄

You mean it worked?
@@jamesbaker2092 well… it could lift just enough to kinda “hover”, and, by controlling the speed of each fan with the controller (that’s how it maneuvered), it could kinda be directed, but then it lost the little lift it had and would touch the floor hahah

By drilling holes in the side of the fan you have airflow going out acting as an airbrake, like reverse thrust works on comercial jets. The centrifugal force of the blades throwing air outward flows out of the holes. Those walls are designed to stop that and throw that flow back.

The cross wires and vertical columns - have more drag than the entire wing
The _Gossamer Condor_ (the first successful human-powered aircraft) showed that wires aren't that important at very low speed - something to do with the Reynolds number. Previous craft with cantilever wings failed because they were too heavy; later craft were able to eliminate the wires again because they had access to better materials like carbon fiber.

When I was a kid I used to hook computer fans up to the Dremel and you'd be surprised how much air would blow from one of those at 10,000 RPM. More than the leaf blower for sure
I wonder if it becomes better if you put them in a paper tube that narrows at the end.
You forgot to change CG when you mounted havier motors. So they stalled because of a wrong cg.
I'd love for you to build one of these super light/fragile airplanes, make it radio controlled and put a huge motor on it. See how fast you can push it before it breaks under aerodynamic stress alone.

He wakes up every morning and does various things to take off and fly (which obviously don't work). He then gets heartbroken when he falls down. Id love it if you could do a video with a really basic airplane that I could make at home with home equipment and step by step instructions and that would fly.
Idea for measuring the thrust of each fan:
Construct a Pendulum with a rigid stick and attach the fan to the bottom along with a set mass.
Turn on the fan and measure the angle the pendulum moves from its natural resting position (θ)
Then use F=mgSin(θ) to determine the the thrust of the fan, proportional to how much the pendulum moves.
