Wow. This is totally awesome. I am NOT a keyboardist. I am a guitarist. I can do all the Alex Lifeson stuff. But this kinda stuff you're doing is out of my comfort zone and fun to watch be created. Very awesome & fun vid here!!!😎👍
Thanks for the hints! I tried to replicate the sound on my Microfreak, and ... well... I failed miserably. But interesting exercise anyway! :D I did get the sequence right, though. :)
Glad you found the video useful! I've never played a Microfreak, but I hear they're awesome. I used to have a Microbrute and loved it. Thanks for the comment!
Great work! I followed your procedure and made a step sequencer on Casio XW-P1. But I used different settings on the lead tone. I used 2 saw slightly detuned and low pass filter with envelope and resonance. The timbre is not exactlty equal to original song, but it works. Now, I'll try your suggestions for timbre, but have some doubts. 1) did you used high pass instead of low pass? 2) And it's not so clear by the angle of your picture what waveforms was used, but it seems to be Saw plus square. Am I right? Or one of the osc was turnef off?
Thanks! Sorry if the angle of the picture doesn't show it clearly, but it's sawtooth waves for both oscillators. The high pass filter is all the way open (slider all the way down). This means that it's not filtering anything - essentially the patch is not using the high pass filter at all. It's just a basic sawtooth patch with some resonance and the filter envelope closing the low pass filter with a pretty short decay. Sounds like your patch is likely pretty similar to what I used. Glad you found the video useful!
@@PolaroidsofthePyramids thank you for the reply. It's my second year using my Workstation and I was postponing use of arpegiator and step sequencer. Your video encoraged me to initiation on these resources (that are very useful and present on many songs)
Glad you enjoyed the video! The JP-08 is docked in the Roland K-25m. It’s designed for the boutiques. I replaced the original side panels with wood ones I fabricated. It was a pretty easy mod.
Glad you like the video! The tempo is 140 bpm. You adjust the tempo by holding down the dual button and sliding the pitch bend ribbon controller. You can’t enter the tempo numerically, so you’ll have to adjust it by ear.
I have no idea. Geddy would just need to start the sequence at the beginning of the song, which he was definitely capable of doing, but I don’t know if that’s what they did.

Thanks for the comment! You set the tempo in the sequencer mode by holding down the dual button and sliding your finger up or down on the left ribbon controller. You can also control the tempo using an external MIDI clock.
Nicely done. I wish more people would do these Rush Synth and sequencer tutorials like you have.
Thanks! I hope you found it useful.
One of the best tutorial I've seen for a while. Right to the point and with no unnecesary speech. Thank you.
Thank you!
Amazing, wasn’t it?
Thank you for the explanation. I just bought a JP-08 and was able to easily recreate this thanks to you!!
Awesome! Glad the video helped!

In my head I was playing Alex Lifeson's guitar part then Neil coming in on the drums.

Same !
Thank you very much for this tutorial! I was able to step sequence it perfectly on my Behringer Poly D.
Awesome - glad you found it useful!
awesome job. Something I will have to program and loop in my sequencer to trigger on my bass pedals when we tackle this one.
Thanks for the comment and good luck playing it!
Thank you for showing this awesome RUSH Vital Signs piece Getty Lee electronics / keyboards and how great you are at doing that , so im subscribing.

Do you happen to know what tempo this is in? Also, how do I adjust the sequencer’s tempo on the JP-08?
Great video, and thank you!

nice man!! how did you save the preset patch?
During live performances, was this Getty's responsibility or was it handled off stage ?

I love this song. 👍😎🇨🇦
I agree - it's one of my favorite Rush tracks. Thanks for watching!
