- The Steamed Taro Cake turned really good and I am very pleased with the result. It is soft with a light firm texture and chock full of yams in every bite.
Steamed Orh Kueh (Savoury Taro/Yam Cake)
Ingredients
1 Medium Size Taro/Yam, peeled & diced
You’ll need about 400 grams of Taro)
10 Shallots, peeled & thinly sliced
6 to 8 Tbsp Dried Shrimps (soaked for 10 minutes, and reserved 1 cup of liquid), chopped
Chili Sauce
Sweet Sauce
Topping
Chopped Scallions
Chopped Coriander
Crispy Fried Shallots
Crispy Fried Dried Shrimps
Seasoning
1/2 tsp 5 Spice Powder
1/2 tsp Chicken Granules
1 tsp Oyster Sauce
1 1/2 tsp White Pepper
1 1/2 tsp Sea Salt, to taste
Batter
200 grams Rice Flour
30 grams Potato Starch
20 grams Corn Starch
2 Cups of Water

I love that the taro is cubed, not grated! And the shrimp, onions, and shallots are used as fresh toppings, not added to the mixture and cooked! This looks great.

Total liquid +- about 705 ml/grams (3 cups). 2 cups of water + 1 cup of soaked dried shrimps liquid. Anyway, hope you like my recipe and thanks for your support dear :-)

Thank you my dear for the information. I went to buy the yam this morning . the lady told me to buy sank yam you have to choose the light yam so less water in the yam then it won't be stickly.one small yam now cost ten ringgit.I will let you know.

Hello: At last they are having orh kueh , instead of orh nee Which I alway end up with. Instead of using fork they have to used spoon.Anyway thank you my dear for the lovely recipe. I just finish cooking the La la bee hoon again.

Can I substitute potatoes starch with tapioca starch?
