@@SpillingTheMilk all the while it’s still a wild ass take considering both kung fu panda and httyd are pretty much on par with each other in terms of animation. Especially when we look at the scene when toothless has hiccup pinned down. The level of detail in his eye alone is better than most animated films today. Even in later installments in the franchise it gets even better especially in the sequel

I liked movie Hiccup more than the book one but that wasn't the main factor, I just didn't like the dragons in the books. They were either dog sized or kaiju sized and they could talk yet didn't feel like good characters. Also if I remember correctly, no Astrid which sucks because she's a pretty good character for the series. Fishlegs was actually pretty funny in the book though wish they brought some his sense of humor here.

Yeah HTTYD was really good, though one thing I don't like is that for the ending of the trilogy they have the same ending as in the book just for the sake of having the same ending as the book, which doesn't make sense since they're COMPLETELY different from one another and the whole theme throughout the past 2 movies was that they made each other stronger and would go on together despite the hardships, but now they're giving up under the pretense that "we don't deserve you... yet". (Which doesn't make sense at all)

This is one of those rare series that reaches out through generations. On a whim, I showed these movies, and the entire series, to my grandfather. At the age of fourteen, I kind of... _needed_ Berserk, but passed it up. I rectified this later on, but, with Gpa? It's like he _always_ needed this in his life. It's something special.
I know this channel is kind of... well, notorious, for taking the piss out of a series, _even one they like,_ so hard it could give the creators a complex, but I'm really hoping they don't continue onto the _modern_ HTTYD series. That they legitimately enjoy this.

    • @RealK4_
      @RealK4_ Рік тому +8

@Spilling The Milk The initial hook in most movies isn't meant to sell you the character. It's meant to establish a baseline for the world of the story. Throwing a first time viewer into the deep end (the relationship between Hiccup and Toothless) right off the bat just confuses viewers.
So here they have a baseline:
      1. Hiccup is clearly inferior to those around him
      2. The conflict between dragons and Vikings is the major issue
      3. Hiccups father, the chief, and him have conflicting views and he fails to live up to them
Most movies establish a baseline before they delve into the main plot. Gladiators opening sequence has nothing relevant to the plot other than establishing our main characters and the world. Same goes for Inception and the Kung Fu Panda movies.
But some movies like Interstellar take a completely different approach and start slow and pick up pace as they go along. Nothing really picks up until around the 15 minute mark (I can't remember the timestamp) but none the less the introduction sequence is important none the less because it sets the pacing of the movie.
Yes I used movies with a much longer runtime as an example but here with the "This is Berk" opening scene, we know everything we need to know about Hiccup and his world. It's in fact one of the best opening sequences ever when you pair it with the score, which establishes all the central lite motifs associated with each character.
Now I get no viewer will ever see this in a first time watch but here they start off hard with the opening scene and slowly build to Hiccup meeting Toothless. I've personally never heard anyone online say the opening sequence was boring but I guess that depends on what you find boring and interesting.

Fun fact, if you read the books they explain that Hiccup got his name because he is a runt (with Hiccup meaning mistake). In the Hairy Hooligan tribe (Stoic's tribe) runts are supposed to be thrown in the ocean in a basket for Odin to decide if they are worthy of living or not, but Stoic decided to spare his only son. Seriously though, read the books. The movies are great, but the books are even better!

T.J. Miller plays one of the twins, and he sadly went insane before production on the third movie began, so he had to be replaced, and it’s SUPER obvious. Especially since he also voiced the character in all of the TV shows.

I like the beginning of this movie as it does take its time to establish the relationship between hiccup and his father. So much these days seems rushed. Doubt they could get through watching Rocky if they think this was a slow beginning.

I'm pretty sure the reason this one specifically is not as good looking as the sequels, is bc the dude who was originally directing the movie had a very different vision that was a lot closer to the books, but he was taking so long to do literally anything that they had to change directors and then the vision of the movie changed pretty dramatically, leading to the one we have now, which btw is like a lot better written than the books. And the artstyle is better too.

11:36 yessss give John Powell the credit he deserves, that man is such an incredible composer. He also worked on music for the Kung Fu Panda films, partnering up with Hans Zimmer, aka a god amongst Film Composers. Hans Zimmer wrote the score for Interstellar, The Lion King, The Prince of Egypt, etc.

There's 2 TV series as well as the movies for this series, both are pretty fun and have some fun characterization for some background characters and introduces some new ones. As well as plenty of other dragon designs they can focus on individually compared to the films. Both series take place between Movies 1 and 2, but the 2nd series came out after the 2nd movie. I highly recommend watching those too at some point.
