Toyota Tacoma | How to Viper Cut & Fender Flares | (2017 Tacoma)

- Hello and welcome, thanks for stoping by. Today we finished up the makeover for sporty spice to include a viper cut and some chopped up fenders. For the viper cut I went with the less aggressive of the two lines which could be cut. Not at all difficult and super easy to cut with the right tools. For the fender flares it was a bit of a process and truthfully up close they don't look great. I went too hard on the flare cut. By cutting too much of the fender flare it exposes the clips holding the flare on. I have several clips that are super close to the edge. I recommend, for cutting the flares to stay at least an inch under the flare line where the clip mounting points attach to the fender. Stay below that line. It will cover the clips and then you still have a little material to be able to smooth it all out. I will most likely be redoing the flares in the future. They don't look bad from 5 feet away but up close, the flaws are visible. Also, my apologies as several times in the video I refer to the fender flares as the fender. As always, thanks for watching hope you enjoy. Don't forget to like and subscribe. All links below.

Thanks for your time on this mod/vid. Been contemplating the viper for a while now. Have not seen anyone go after the fenders. You make it look eeeeasy
Thanks for the kind words. It took some time to get it all set up. Also, I went a little too hard on the flare cut, they don't look great up close.
Sweet cut!Like how you can see the KINGS now!🤙🏼
Yes sir, thank you.
Pure functionality, love it. Gotta do this myself as well.
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.
Looks badass brother.
Appreciate it, thank you.
Dude, it looks fantastic. You did a great job. It's a good thing I've got a pavement princess, because I would totally frack up my truck.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
Looks great..much props.i wish i had the guts to try this myself
Thank you, I appreciate it. You can, you got this, just take your time.
Looks pretty damn good to me. Alot better than what I could have done.
Thank you for the kind words.
Getting ideas thanks for the video!
Awesome, I hope to inspire. Glad you liked the video.
New subscriber here 😂
I enjoy watching you work truck is awesome my friend
Thank you very much. Appreciate it.
Looks good bro 👍
Thank you.
great job ! good video
Thanks for watching.
Looks good to me. I respect the work
Much appreciated, Thank you.
Great video and work! I put some 35 geolanders mt on yesterday and there rubbing on my upper control arms😕 so I had to order some 1.25 wheel spacers. I don’t have any negative offset on my method wheels. I’ll be doing this trim soon. Just installed a HC bumper this past week.
Awesome, thanks for watching.
Great video and nice Taco!
Thanks!
Very nice built!👍
Thank you.
Beautiful
Thank you. 😊
Nice job 👏
Thank you.
Done full pack po host ..sending my support po God Bless you..
That is a lot to decipher, but thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it.
When you guys get one side cit I wish you guys would show us the front of the truck so we could see the difference if we want to do it or not
If I cut another one, I'll get you the pics you you. If you're savvy with photo shop you could always combine before and after images. Just a thought. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video man, personally think it would have looked better if you kept the quicksand color and just put some of that black trim on the edges
Thanks for watching. I was on the fence about the black, but after I do like the contrast.
Cut grind prettyfy repeat 3 more x got it 🛠
Yup, it was a long afternoon.
nice video. did you end up cutting more? I got the bushwackers flares but also running 35's. considering just going with no flaires
They are still the same height as the video and work well for the 35s. My cut is high on the fender flare as compared to others, so if you cut this high be ready for a big gap between the tire and the fender. I like it, and I need that gap for when I hit the trails. If you take the flare off you can get an idea of what it will look like with no flares. Thanks for watching.
What kind of sliders are those, thanks
Those are Cali Raised Trail Edition. I have an install on the channel for them as well. Thanks for watching.
Maybe reinstall the flares with some added 3m dounle sided tape like it was from stock. To get a bit extra hold. I like the viper cut 💪
Not a bad idea, thank you.
I like the look of your rock sliders, which ones do you have on there?
just saw the post--Cali Raised, thanks!
@@WestGAKayakfishing no worries, thanks for watching.
What Milwaukee ratchet are you using? New cuts looks good
The Mil ratchet is the M12 3/8. Thanks for the kind words.

Do you need to cut if you have 3.5” inches lift to put 35s?
Easy answer is yes. How much cutting depends on what and how you enjoy off roading. The more flex you need, the more cutting you're going to need. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the answer. Ohhrah !
@@juancahuasmendoza2575 Semper Fi
How high are you lifted? Looks like long travel on 6" lift. But I don't see a drop bracket lift
I'm at a little under 4 inches of lift, just a mid travel lift. Thanks for watching.
This is possibly the cleanest Viper Cut I've seen (& i have seen tons of vids) and I am still afraid to cut into mine lol. What size tire are you running? Regeared? if so, which ratio. Thanks
Thank you very much.
what was that tool you were using for the viper cut with the flat-looking blade?
It a Dremel multi tool -- here is a link -- amzn.to/2UCQ2ew Mine is an older model but this should get you going.
@@ClassyTacos Thank you so much
@@voodoobluetaco No worries, hope it works out well for you.
Also it's easier if you use a laser light
Thanks for the tips.
I want to do this mod with my Taco as well but out of all the videos I've seen you're the only one to use a Oscillating tool instead of using a rotary tool with a cutting wheel. I wanted to know what attachment you're using for the oscillating tool? I'm hoping doing this mod will help out with tire rubbing for my 33''s I put on plus it just makes the Taco look like a BEAST.
You really could use either tool. It comes down to what you feel the most comfortable with. For the cutting blade I used this kit.
amzn.to/3BNeTMJ
Thanks for watching, good luck.
@@ClassyTacos thanks a lot for putting a link keep up the videos I’ve seen a lot them very descriptive and great mods.
You had quicksand fender flares, and then applied blacked OEM that were grinded down?
No, i cut the QS fender flares and then painted them black.
Did you chop off as well the bolt that holds bumper at the bottom?
Most probably, it really depends on your cut line. The higher the angle, the more stuff you will be removing. Thanks for watching.
Rah
ooh.
Is that a skull at 12:24 inside the wheel well?
Damn, it does look like a skull. Nice catch.
So the fender cuts give you about 2"more of finder clearance
Thats about right, I did not measure it. 2 inches seems about right.
@@ClassyTacos so putting 35" in my truck could work even better, with this finder and flare cut, did you remove fender liner's to
@@raymonde.tanneratomic-rc9370 yes fender liners are removed as well. This is the first step into getting 35s to fit right. Also recommend a CMR. Thanks for watching.
looks like shit bro, but that dosnt matter, its function over form. nice work
Function over everything. This is not the Taco for everyone
Could you give me any advice Prior cutting my fenders this weekend? Lol
Tale your time, don't rush stay at least an inch under the fender flare line.
Whoo, first commenter 😂
Why are we up so early!
@@ClassyTacos Currently 4:46 AM here in SoCal! Had to stay up to get some work done! 😂 Probably gonna head to bed after this video 😆
Sleep tight.
Can you show what the top of the snorkel area looks like
Ya I can post up a pic in the community section. I will have it for you later today.
@@ClassyTacos was looking to get it, out of stock right now, was wondering on the top part of snorkel, the angle of the end of the snorkel, worried about water from rain and snow getting in
@@raymonde.tanneratomic-rc9370 email me at the website on my about page and I will send you a couple of pics so you can set it. Thanks
@@ClassyTacos how do I do that

Lift height and tires
????
right under 4 inches, Kings 2.5 all around, 35 Yoko Geos
I need to get me a flapper wheel
Yes, those flapper discs come in real handy. Thanks for watching.
I just realized this is you. I have an extra one I can give you. I can bring it by with the phone mount.
haha! im just another fan. i acutally went to buy one at harbor freight. it made my bumper chop so much more fun lol. thanks tho!
CRINGE
HOW TO RUIN THE FRONT BUMPER ON A TACOMA
LOL 🤣
Yup, this is not the Taco for everyone.
