man I remember as a child we didn't really know what we were doing so grandma and I would just set up the figures and use them as toys and pretend to battle each other's countries instead.
I still have ours from the 70's or early 80's that used the caltrops looking plastic pieces instead of army men. If you asked me how it was played I'd have no idea it's been so long lol
I used to live this game as a kid back in the 80's. It's been going for well over half a century now. The only problem I found was in getting players. I had the same issue with D&D and Warhammer as I got older. I'd be lucky if I could get three people in on a game. It was inevitable that the role playing/strategy board game past time would decline as computers began to get powerful enough to run complex mathematical/graphical engines. When I look at RISK for example, I naturally think of Europa Universalis 4.
Yeah that's the problem. There are programs you can use to play these games online such as ROLL20 for D&D although it's not the same as being there with one another and enjoying the experience in person. I can remember having to go to the Games Workshop here in the UK if I wanted to play a game of Warhammer. It was cool in that it facilitated social interaction as you were constantly meeting new people but it's not the same as enjoying a game with your mates.
There is a game on steam or on your phone called Risk: Global Domination. It's a great game with a lot more options. And of course a lot of players to play with
i recommend this online game called Call of War. It has the same idea as risk but its just a little different. Ive been playing the game for well over 2 weeks and im still trying to get my first win.
It's a shame I didn't know that until my brother told me that tonight..... 25 years later lol Edit: let me say, I haven't played in at least 20 years and he used to always beat me when we were kids and I just sucked at playing. Bought the newer version recently and my relatives play the game and we played tonight. My brother didn't, he just wanted to observe. He gave me the tip of conquering Australia first. My aunt was mad because that was her strategy and I messed it up for her lol! Ultimately, we stopped the game as it was getting late and decided that my mom won.
You attacked a square with 3 dice against one, then said you can move as many troops in as you like. You had 4 there and moved 2 in. I think you have to move at least 3 in , if you roll 3 dice, then deploy one back if that is the end of your turn. If you wanted to just move 2 , I think you have to only roll 2 dice against the opponents one. 4 men in a territory is the minimum you need to roll 3 dice, any less than that and you can only roll two or one, as one is always counted as holding the territory you are fighting from.
I know this was three years ago but new people might read this, the max you are allowed to attack with at once is three. You can attack nonstop in one turn, you decide when your turn ends.

Hey thanks. Quite question though, You never explained about the 5 and 10 unit prices and how you use them. Whether you can attack with them or how to get them?? Can you please explain
Correct, every tim 3 cards are turned in, it makes a step. So ever next set of 3 gets more units. Some people (when able) will delay turning in their 3 cards because it will profide more units later on. On some of the old classis risk games, it worked differently. 3 canons had a different value then 3 soldier, 3 horses or a mix of 3, but the amount stayed the same during the entire game.
Conner Liepa the multiple army pieces are just there to prevent clutter on the board. Image if you got like an army of 30, how would you fit 30 pieces in one little space?
So wait, you can only obtain units in one individual way, or do you count every controlled territory AS WELL AS a controlled continent and add those two numbers, and trade in a set of cards in the same turn?
A turn ends after you fortify. Before this stage is the attacking phase when you attack as much or as little as you'd like, so long as you have enough troops to do so.
The problem of risk that rolling dices when attacker and defender has more than 20 or 30 units. You roll dice forever. They should find an easy way to solve this problem.
When this happens in games I play I usually make an agreement with the person Im attacking to do either double or triple odds (depending on how many units/how wild Im feeling) this means that when you lose 1 unit you'd actually lose 2 or 3 depending on what odds youre using. To make it fair we usually say that the person who asks for the lowest odds will be what is chosen (if one person says triple and the other says double then it is double odds until decided otherwise). I know this can mess up the mathematics of it so it isn't for everyone but whenever Ive done it it has really added to the excitement of the game, especially triple odds where you risk losing 6 units with a single dice roll
Ok But what is the ise of cavalry & artillery How do they fight Cavalry vs cavalry or artillery Suppose the attacker.has only.4.units and there is artillery.or cavalry in defender territory then how do they battle.??
I have one question,,, if i destroy my opponent AND take his cards (do i have to use IT righth now Because i already have 3 cards) or shold i Wait for next turn AND use ALL 7 cards(cuz i Will have one more at the End of turn) thank you

Does the golden calvary stay at 60? Seems like a lot of armies everytime we turn in cards at 60. Floods the board and we get no where. Sometimes a battle is like 70 vs 40? That's a lot of rolling. Doesn't seem like were doing it right
Board Game Museum: Home Of Classic Board Games Man you would have to be a Harvard educated lawyer to understand this game..Its the most complicated game ever made.Wish I woulda left it alone.
I have a question, Lets say you have 10 units in Brasil and you attack 1 unit in Argentina, you attack with 3 units and you win the round, therefore you will move those 3 units to the Argentina. Now can u continue attacking other countries with remaining 7 units from Brasil ?
So I am trying to set up a 2 player game and my rule book(if I'm correctly understanding it) says to place all 40 infantry pieces from each army amongst the territories. This has me confused on how to receive more troops on the first turn since i only have 14 territories and receive 4 troops, since cavalry is worth 5. Can i just substitute infantry with cavalry or artillery at setup?
The attacking side always rolls first right? If the attacking side rolls three high dice, can the defendant decide to defend with just one army instead of two. Or does the defending side have to decide with how many they'll defend in advance of the attacking dice roll?
Hello BGM! Very classic game - But you explained it a little wrong. If you decide to attack with 3 units (3 dice) and you defeat the other country, you HAVE TO MOVE 3 units there. Same counts for one or two of course. :) Greetings from EUROPE (5) XD
So I have a question. Say I take 3 out of my 6 guys from one of my territory's to invade and battle my opponents territory who only has two armies left. I roll three dice and defeat both of my opponents armies. Now I MUST take at least 3 armies I committed to battle into that conquered territory because I rolled 3 diced, that makes sense. So say I decide to bring in 2 more of my army men that held the territory I just attacked from. Would this count as a reinforcement and end my turn? Or can I continue with my attack phase elsewhere on the board.
So I'm still a little confused. So lets say after my 3 out of 6 armies (from the same territory) conquer my opponents territory I decide to move 5 of my armies (all from the same territory) into the new territory. Can I continue the attack phase with another one of my territory's on the board? Or can i only choose to attack with 5 armies of the new territory I conquered since i moved in more than the 3 armies i battled with. I promise this will be the last question lol sorry
I thought you can attack from one country and what ever it surrounds on one turn. You cant move to another complete country to attack on the same turn. I think thats what you said. Or are you explaining both sides of the spectrum.
i have a question:can you get troops all of your turns? like *turn 1 i go* *i divide my territories for 3 then i get x troops* *turn 2 i go* *i divide my territories for 3 and then get x troops*? because people just spawn the pieces where im attacking them, how do i prevent this, the game guide isnt as practical
I took a quick look and it's tricky. Because there's so many versions the company's only going to make one that covers most of not all of them. You might have better luck going on eBay and trying to find a rulebook
So I'm confused on what happens when you turn in your cards to get more units, do you lose the territory or do you keep it but you lose the card? Thanks.
Is it true if you conquer a country you can move in as many troops as you want and then continue attack various countries? I thought it was the troops that survived stayed in the country and you had to wait to move any pieces until you were done attacking.
Interesting... I play a simpler version (as for newer players it's easier to understand) ... - To "speed up" the game (instead of it lasting for HOURS) we place 3 units at the beginning of every go - just to push the game forward quicker - We only use 1 die each - Extra units only increase when a full territory has been taken by one player Nice video though dude!
Yeah, there's a much more complicated version that me and my friends play but it requires roleplaying and all sorts of other things...kind of like a DnD/Risk hybrid ahahahaha
Yes. There are three ways to place new armies on the board at the start of your turn. The number of new armies is based on (1) the number of territories you occupy, (2) any continent bonuses, and (3) any cards you trade in. Just note for the first method - the “divided by three” method - the minimum number of new armies you must place is three. So even if you occupy only one territory, have no continent bonuses, and have no cards to trade in, you’ll be able to place three new armies.
or combination of wildcard with 2 same units/symbols or 2 different units/symbols. You get also additional 2 units if any of the cards shows a territory that you occupied, however you can only place both units on that territory. if you occupied all territories shown in the cards you are trading, you get only maximum of 2 units and you can place it anywhere among the 3 occupied territories
If you have a combination of the three cavalry, infantry and artillery cards*or* have three cavalry, infantry or artillery cards. You do this at the start of your go.
One last question: when you eliminate a player and take their risk cards and play them, do the troops received by trading cards continue to go up (15, 20, 25, etc)? I ask this because the player that was just eliminated presumably played the cards before that.
if you have anytime, a set traded. It would go up (classic way/progressive), but there is an alternative called (fixed), which a 3 solidiers give 4, 3 caveliers give 6, 3 artillery give 8 and a all three give 10.
man I remember as a child we didn't really know what we were doing so grandma and I would just set up the figures and use them as toys and pretend to battle each other's countries instead.

So I'm confused on what happens when you turn in your cards to get more units, do you lose the territory or do you keep it but you lose the card? Thanks.
You just lose the cards
Is it true if you conquer a country you can move in as many troops as you want and then continue attack various countries? I thought it was the troops that survived stayed in the country and you had to wait to move any pieces until you were done attacking.
you can attack as long as you wish, provided your country has at least 2 units on it.
Interesting...
I play a simpler version (as for newer players it's easier to understand)
...
- To "speed up" the game (instead of it lasting for HOURS) we place 3 units at the beginning of every go - just to push the game forward quicker
- We only use 1 die each
- Extra units only increase when a full territory has been taken by one player
Nice video though dude!
Yeah, there's a much more complicated version that me and my friends play but it requires roleplaying and all sorts of other things...kind of like a DnD/Risk hybrid ahahahaha
nukebacon876
Hey!
Sorry, I'm late but could you share that complex version?
Thanks!
Would be fun if there was Pearl harbour
Thanks for the video =)
so if you take 2 territories do u get 2 cards or just one?
You can only get one card per turn regardless of how many territories you claim that turn.
Does anybody knows where i can find Secret Weapons cards for Risk? We played with them long time ago but now i not find them on any place on internet
what happened with the cards? what to do with that?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Is there a limit for the number of times you attack?
can you get reinforcement from occupying a continent, and from the number of areas (divided by three) occupied, at the same time?
What's the point of the third die?
increases the attacker's odds of having superior top 2 dice to defender
What is the version in which you are playing?
thanks very helpful i sb
if atacker atack with 1 armies does defender can defense itself with 2 armies?
Luka Jovanovic yes
do another video plz about the whole game about mission card plz
Is it true if you conquer 5 countries on your turn, you only receive one risk card?
if you play it as same as most players do, then yes.
I have question, how do we know when we can trade the territory cards?
or combination of wildcard with 2 same units/symbols or 2 different units/symbols.
I like the fact that there is New ZELAND
They should make ones for the oceans
What addition is that
They have defeated *The Red Army*
Im confused how do you move ur army to and or across the sea on ur turn

Dominate your prey. She's prey.
Not gay
Imagine if it happens in real life
One last question: when you eliminate a player and take their risk cards and play them, do the troops received by trading cards continue to go up (15, 20, 25, etc)?
I ask this because the player that was just eliminated presumably played the cards before that.
if you have anytime, a set traded. It would go up (classic way/progressive), but there is an alternative called (fixed), which a 3 solidiers give 4, 3 caveliers give 6, 3 artillery give 8 and a all three give 10.
good video!
