I prefer the 4s11’s over a much more expensive, popular audiophile brand. Highs and mids are clean, with a wide soundstage beyond the plane of the speakers and tight bass. And no added inductance from a silly battery pack. Excellent cables for the money.

I bought a set of WBC 6" Canare 4S11 speaker jumpers for my ELAC UBR62 speakers to replace the inexpensive stamped metal "shorting clips" of unknown composition and conductivity that came with the speakers. They were boxed and wrapped very well, better than I expected for $26 purchase. WBC included a sheet describing how they were assembled which leads me to assume they'll last for a long time. I admit to not having done any comparative listening tests because I'm familiar with the Canare 4S11 and figured that they would be just fine for the purpose. The jumpers look good and the spade lugs fit the binding posts on my speakers with no problem. I have no regrets about spending my money on these jumpers to make the connection in the very short gap between the binding poets.

I just got these for my B&W 805 4Ds and there was a noticeable improvement over my previous non bi wired Audio Quest cables which were 14 gage. Normally I would say bi wiring will yield little or no improvement, but I think if you have the equipment to take advantage of it, it can make a difference. The speaker interconnects of the 805 D4s are the best built I've ever seen, this wasn't an after thought like I think most speakers are...very well constructed and heavy duty...they definitely had bi wiring/amping in mind when designing these speakers....out of the box they don't even have the jumpers in place, they are in a separate box. I will be upgrading my center channel to an 8 series center in the future and will be picking up another one of these when I do that. In all WBC makes great cables, I have two of their XLR 10 foot runs for my SVS 4000 subs.

@@morejelloplease I don't believe in the snake oil gimmick but have to admit I own two sets of Audioquest Carbon interconnects. At over 200 each little cable they are somewhat of snake oil contenders. That is probably as far as I go with cables. The WBC cables are a better deal than even Pangea cables.

I just recently purchased WBC's Mogami W3082 coaxial speaker wire with the Eminence Gold banana plugs. The soundstage opened up and the kicker was the bass... I suddenly had more bass? What is up with that? I know I was getting more bass through my KLH Model 5's because I had to turn down the two SVS SB3000 subs I have in this system, a good 4 to 5 db. That is real, not something in my head. I bought the pair, ten foot, for roughly $90 delivered on Amazon. These replaced a pair of 10 AWG OFC I put together myself. There is a marked difference in sound, and I have to wonder what the coax cable does vs the ofc? I'm a cable snake oil guy, and this is a first for me.

The problem is, in recent years the way we shop and receive information has changed dramatically. Anyone with an internet connection can be an expert of their own making. Not everyone is honest. There's just as many junk science reviewers out there, not looking to get the truth, but to build a UA-cam channel. And people like you are the victims in all of it. You upgraded your cables and hear a legitimate difference, and now you're trying to figure out what happened in disbelief. The truth is, your new cables made a difference, and that's all there is to it.
Moving forward, I'd like to give you my opinion. Now that you've heard to the difference, don't go out and buy all new cables, especially ones that cost more than whatever your comfort zone is. Let the upgrades come naturally. You'll soon find out that results vary. Replacing other cables in your system may not yield the same changes. Sometimes, you won't hear a difference, or the difference you do hear is a downgrade. If you had your new cables in the system and upgraded to your old cables, it would sound worse, and your experience would be negative. My point is, just be careful with future upgrades. Results will vary, and its perfectly normal.

I use some really fantastic speaker cables. Zip cord bought at Ace hardware. That said, I have several XLR to 1/4" TRS cables made by this company, for connecting balanced gear to my Audient audio interface. Really well-made, never a connection problem, and I've been using them for about two years with no issues whatsoever. And as an added bonus, they kept the polarity straight on all my cables - which is not a given with some manufacturers.

@@parkersgarage4216 "Zip cord" is just an old term for plain old two-conductor lamp cord, like you would find coming out of the base of a lamp, or like the wire used in old-fashioned extension cords. It was called that because the insulation on one conductor was usually ribbed so that you could tell one conductor from the other, and this ribbed insulation made a "zip" sound when pulled off a reel or run across a sharp edge or corner.
The point is that speaker cable, so long as it's thick enough to carry the current needed without too much loss (which for most home stereos means 18 or 16 gauge), it's perfectly fine. There's no need to pay for anything more than that.

The soundstage opened up and I had to literally turn the bass down in my mainly Denafrips system. My KLH Model 5's started hitting lower, and the only reason I knew that is that I had to turn down my two SVS SB3000 subs 4 to 5 db. Something is going on, the difference between my 10 AWG oxygen free cables I built myself vs this Mogami coaxial cable. @@morejelloplease An easy way to compare speaker cables, while not necessarily scientific, is put one brand on the left and another on the right and use the balance control if you have one to switch back and forth. Just remember the geometry of the cable makes a bigger difference. If you try to compare zip cord A to zip cord B you probably won’t hear much difference. But a braided cable should sound very different than a zip cord or even Star-quad style cable like the 4S11. Parallel zip cord style cables are cheap and get the job done if you don’t care about extracting all of the signal. But a better engineered cable can improve on other aspects of electrical performance such as velocity of propagation. The geometry of the cable can literally slow or smear some frequencies over others. This leads to a less focused sound and loss of fine detail. Zip cord was basically made to pass 60Hz AC cheaply and efficiently. Speaker cables carry low frequency signals with continuously shifting dynamic current draws into a dynamic load. (compared to RF which acts very differently) Nevertheless if you don’t hear differences consider yourself lucky. But don’t assume everyone is like you.

@@thepracticalaudiophile how do you like qobuz? how does it compare to tidal? i have the oppo udp205, not sure if you're familiar with that, it has limited networking and no apps, some have streamed with it but i'mnot sure what the best method is, havent researched it much. i'd love to slowly migrate over to streaming where i can search a website, press a button and have it play on my system. avsforum has 9000 posts and i'm not spending a month on there lol.

Qobuz sounds the best of the four I've tried (all hi-rez). The other three are Tidal, Apple Music and Amazon HD. But the truth is I think they all sound fantastic. I'm sticking with apple music because it's free through my Verizon phone service. But if I had to pay it would be between Tidal and Qobuz. I haven't had a chance to listen to MQA through Tidal yet.

@@thepracticalaudiophile cool, i've been reading good things about Qo, I may be able to hook this little asus chromebook up to the network and run a usb cable out and direct into the oppo 205 usb dac input. it would be nice if i could control it and search/play music from a phone app, i'm very late to the streaming world, just trying to find the best way to stream music with my current setup.

You say more expensive speaker cables are snake oil. Have you listened to more expensive and compared them? If so which ones? What's the rest of your system?

i've played with rip cord, nordost and some MIT's. i have monster cable to some mark levinson fine stranded. i've heard other cables but on speakers or in an environment that i wasn't familiar with so i can't make a fair assessment. most of my speakers are very inefficient and power hungry. if the wire can handle the power i throw at it then it's good enough, i dont split hairs over something i can see on a scope or RTA but can't hear. some of these guys have $10,000 speaker wire, $100,000k+ amps and no power filtration or surge protection :)

It's unfair to call something snake oil unless you've done an A/B comparison on the exact same system. Too many people use that term too loosely. On another note I have these cables in a non biwire setup and love them. I hear no difference between spades and bananas. These sound better than my $400 Morrow audio cable. These are definitely worth the price.

@@thepracticalaudiophile i heard no difference between these and my nordost cables. i heard some MIT's but didnt have a way to directly A/B them, but from what i heard they didn't make me open my wallet, not for $10k lol. I'll buy $10k speakers or amp, but not cables. like saying a sports car won't be it's fastest unless it has a performance seat :)

@@morejelloplease My friend just spent over $2000 for a set of Zu Audio cables in a biwire configuration. I'd like to do a blind a/b test with these and some simple jumpers. Probably won't because I wouldn't want him to feel like he wasted his money. But I won't call them snake oil until I actually do an a/b test. As a closing note we were lucky to have discovered these cables.

Where can I buy them from and how many gauge are they

    • @morejelloplease
      @morejelloplease  2 роки тому +1

Search for them on Amazon, then click "Ask seller a question". They are super friendly and usually respond within 1 day. If you don't see what you're looking for, send them a message and they will custom make your cable. The gauge depends on the wire used. My 4S11 is 14GA but if you run them in parallel they are 11GA. My cables are 10' long and I have no issue with 450w RMS per channel.

Burn-in is a ridiculous concept for most product categories in the audio world -- but seeing this attached to cables makes me instantly lose respect for the company. I certainly don't regret spending $120 today on WBC cables instead of shelling out over $260 for Mogami branded, because I know the parts and quality is legit; But it's obvious they're trying to appeal to the gullible snake oil enthusiasts in the hifi world; customers whom the audiophile industry love to manipulate and hoodwink. Definitely not a tactic that inspires trust.
