How many times do we go down this road? Surface tablets did a good job of trying to replace laptops 10 years back, and are still going strong, but people still prefer laptops. Just because Apple has finally caught up with a decently powerful tablet doesn't change anything. These are tools, you use the tool you need, laptops aren't going anywhere.
Thanks for the comment Steve! I agree that other companies have already did this and apple is late to the party per usual. 😅 I use both the iPad and MacBook, but this video comes down to if I could only choose one…could an iPad be used as efficient as my laptop while still having the unique capabilities of a tablet? As for my wife’s case, it was! 😁
For me, my iPad is a partial laptop replacement. I use my MacBook or Windows PC at home and I use my iPad 8 with Logitech Combo Touch to do laptop stuff when I leave the house. The iPad is more compact, and it's cheap enough that it's not the end of the world if it's lost or damaged.
There are bands of users that an iPad would work. But if you need extended monitor support or are even a heavy typer, I wouldn't recommend it. Adding a Magic or third-party keyboard can weigh more than an Air. Then there are apps. MS Office works with touch. But if Excel is part of your daily workflow, you'll quicky wish for a mouse or touch pad.. So yes it can work in some limited scenarios where the apps are fantastic or you are just browsing the web.
Considering how the iPad OS is, it isn’t easy to be a power user because I used Windows for a long time and only used iPhone since about five years ago. It won’t replace my laptop completely because my pc does what my iPad cannot, but I am running windows exclusive programs for my engineering degree. For light work loads, the iPad can be a netbook and be used for note taking, and entertainment.
Hey K Reeves, I agree, if it can’t replace your laptop for your specific needs, the iPad is still an amazing tool for notetaking and still recommend getting👌
I agree that the answer is yes and no. From my perspective, the iPad can be a laptop replacement if you use it with a cloud PC service like Shadow. This lets you use a full blown Windows PC through the cloud which can be useful if you need to use desktop applications. However, a good internet connection is required. Without a cloud PC, the iPad cannot be a laptop replacement due to the limitations of iPadOS and lack of “Pro” apps from Apple.
I was wondering if your wife uses the iPad for notes taking in class and for diagrams related to her classes. Also, what about test prep and review summaries? Does she use any note taking software or even one note. What about sharing documents with your classmates? Do you have a shared drive for projects and related documents? Do you have any issues collaborating withyour fellow students or project group members who are on windows? Is there any custom software youuse ass school that is not available for the iPad? (Something windows specific for example...I know some nursing students must use simulation software for practical drills for example. Admittedly more of this is now on an online server but still may require an app to access it to grade and evaluate performance. Plagiarism checking software is commonly used that you must submit written work to and has in the past been tied to Windows)
Hey Wingert, I spoke to my wife to answer your questions! She wrote her notes on paper cause she is old school like that, but for notes, diagrams, test prep I highly recommend Goodnotes. I have a video on my channel showing this app as well. You will not be disappointed with this app! They even have flashcards which is great for studying. For sharing documents and projects she used google drive/google docs and google drive works great across platforms (windows & Mac users) Her simulations were all web-based and no specific app needed. They also used a website to submit for plagiarism and no specific app was needed. So her iPad is able to handle everything you were asking about 👍🏽 Hopefully this helps!
@@Anthonyrolivieri Thank you for the follow up. I figured most of that was the case. But it is nice to have it confirmed. This really says a lot about how the nature of work and education is changing. As long as you can access the internet fast enough it really doesn't matter what hardware you are using anymore. It's to the point where I am likely to not ever buy another laptop again. (I'm 57 and am planning my exit from the tech treadmill at 65) I have a mid-level gaming laptop, a 16-inch XPS and an older XPS 13 as well as three generations of iPad or iPad Air. I just got the 10th gen and it is serving me well. I am going to update my iPad Air just to get the M2 or M3 chip. All my files are online or on my remotely accessible qnap NAS. Processor power is so high unless you are doing cad renderings or video rendering there is no need for "High" powered machines for individuals since most machines are so powerful.
What is the case you used to turn the iPad into a “laptop”? You neglected to give names, brands/models and links to but them. That would be so helpful - thanks!
This is a silly argument. Tablets and PCs are tools. Why not both? Why not just use a Mac for when you need a desktop/laptop and Mac OS -- and then switch to an iPad for all other use cases?
Hey great point, I have both and use them differently for my use cases. But I use MacBook extensively for work purposes. However, not everyone can afford both and that person may want the benefits of both a laptop and tablet in one. If you can buy both, then I agree 2 is better than 1, but it isn’t always necessary!

Spot on 👌 thanks for the insight Mark!
I can probably complete about 85% of my daily tasks on my iPad. There are some things I can't use my iPad & need a PC/Mac

Thanks for leaving a comment and I appreciate the insight. That is a good point using a cloud PC Service! Never thought of that 🧐
First time I see your content, seems like a video made by a youtuber with way more subscribers than around 200. Keep it up!
I appreciate the love Sven 💪 Slowly but surely I’m working this algorithm to reach more people. Lol but your comment helps!
Great vid! Keep up the great content!
Thanks John! I appreciate the support 💪 I got more heat coming 🔥

Your best choice is apple’s Magic Keyboard or a smart keyboard folio case
@@danielszabo5512 thank you. 👍😊
Hey John, it’s the Logitech combo touch for iPad Pro. I recommend it over Magic Keyboard because you can detach the keyboard. 👍🏽
@@Anthonyrolivieri Thank you, Anthony! :)
You can't put a tablet on your stomach when laying down in bed or the couch, laptops provide a better angle as well. Cases help but it's not the same
Laptops do win in the stomach computing category 😅
For excel users you must have a computer
Sorry no adblock for youtube. For me is still a no go.
Hey Daniele, thanks for the comment. I can see that. I still have ads on mine but just got used to it 😂

Just get a laptop 💻 Mac
