Anyone with a Tech-Air 5 and maybe the 10 if it's the same, need to check it out immediately. I was out for a ride recently in the hot weather with two friends We were all wearing a Tech-Air 5. We stopped at a cafe for a brew and we took our vests off. My mate was looking at my vest when he realised that the actual airbag was not fixed inside the jacket but lying loose in the bottom lumbar area. We checked the other two jackets and they were the same. The airbag is fixed into the jacket using Velcro tabs and there's no way that the airbag can detach itself under normal use. It has to have come from the factory like that. I dread to think what would have happened if the airbag had inflated on my lower back. I phoned the supplier and they said they'd check their stock to make sure the airbags are fitted into the jacket properly.
@@badforme1457if they’re all like that couldn’t it be that it’s supposed to come like that? Haven’t bought one yet or really seen it, I’m looking into buying one tho
@@_TwoDot I mean I don’t think they’re supposed to because it felt like it was not in the proper place when I was wearing it and also the rest of it was attached to the Velcro straps on one side. I wouldn’t be surprised it if it had come undone itself tbh
I just purchased a Tech Air 5. I looked at the Tech Air 10 but I like the idea of a system that I would use both on the track and on the street. I don't think I would go through the hassle of putting on the 10 every time I wanted to hop on my bike for the street.
@@UWfalcin Stripping down to my underwear to put on the 10 and then putting back on my normal cloths and then riding gear to go out and then undoing all that for every ride sounds like more of a hassle than I want. The 5 is just putting another jacket on before my riding jacket.
Thanks for the review Alex. I ridden aerostitch on the street and traditional leathers on track days. Airbag vests are a great advance and well worth the cost.
Great content because more riders need to start wearing airbag vests. I recently bought the Helite Turtle 2 vest in Hi-Viz. I like the convenience of yours, but am scared of a "tech fail." Thanks again, man.
Yeah i dont want a computer model to decide whether im crashing or not..plus what if a sensor goes out...you wont know, battery degradation..lots of tech in these things..shit can happen. Plus alpinestars wants like 200 usd to send it back after 1 deployment of the tech air 5..cmon..
The added tech can have some downsides but also brings some upsides too. The helite for example won't work as well in a lowside until you get separated from your bike. Given that that's the most likely sort of crash to happen in the twisties, that concerns me. What if I'm attached to my bike and slide into a guardrail? I'd like the airbag to go off immediately rather than wait for a physical separation from the bike. They all have their pros and cons. But it's better to have any airbag than to not have one at all!
@@FadilKarim That's a great point, and one I honestly hadn't considered before purchasing the Helite. Also a great point that's it's better to have any airbag as opposed to none at all. I plan to keep the Helite until the tech advances enough that we may all be entirely certain it's fail-safe.
@@FadilKarim I’ve crashed once and it was a lowside crash. The bike went away from me instantly and a Helite would have worked great. But then again, not all crashes are the same.
Have purchased tech air 10,after the second one have decided it's going back, its definitely not as comfortable as tech air race did a couple of track sessions and it was so hot with pro skins underneath, let alone trying to go for a wee ! Tried without pro skins and it just stuck to me,shame there didnt make the liner from pro skins material.lots of problems with the charging of the unit Alpinestars have just updated the software but the battery still doesn't hold charge mine goes flat in 5 days even if the unit is turned off
Can someone provide " quotes" from Allinestars and mention the dates and title of what references materials you are quoting? This is too important to depend on anonymous comments...no offense intended.
Why is the equipment hump on the Tech Air 10 located so low on the back and stick out so much more than the 5 or the old Race system? I think this is going to make it harder to fit under suits even tech air ready ones. Please do a video showing you wearing the Tech Air 10 under your one piece track suit. No one has demo'd the Tech Air 10 under a suit. Also, are the newer tech air ready suits designed to accommodate a deployed hip bags? I ask since I am looking to buy either the old Race one that is proven but a bit bulky (compared to the Tech AIr 5 that is hard to use with a suit) or this new Tech Air 10 system.
can you please make video comparing race airbag options? - Alpinestars costs 1200€ every rechangh 300€ + that you need to send it. normaly when you go on Racetrack, you stay there for 2 days. If you fall first day, then you ride one day without Airbag. now i am looking for some better options, for example IXON Airbag, you can change the "bomb" alone. it seems like better options. we need some reviews what to do. Alpinestars and Dainesi are to expensiv to maintain.
great explanation of function; the only massive high-side I've ever had was 50-60mph 3-5 seconds out of my driveway on cold soaked tires when TC failed and the tire caught traction on a sewer lid after fishtailing ... guess the suit wouldn't have saved me but it looks like a great solution for an air undersuit.
Does the backplate stay well in a pair of separate leather race pants well considering it follows the spine so low? It definitely looks like the lower part of the backplate would also go down into the pants. Wondering how that would feel in a race position on the bike.
The lower part does go down in your pants, making it a uncomfortable/ inconvenient happening because it will make your pants sag down / however this is only a issue when off the bike, on it it will sit fine
Yeah I got it eventually and had it from June-Oktober but I men man... That velcro waist strap is sucha bad design.. I can't even put it on anymore because it wore out in like 2 months. I used it daily@@bartdevuyst713
Hey man great review on the tech 10 ! I plan on buying a tech air 5. I notice you got size medium for tech air 5. What’s your height and weight and chest size ?
I'm across 3 sizes, Med, L and XL, and these are not returnable from some retailers. I am average height for US and a healthy athletic BMI. Another person I know measured out to a XS or below on the sizing chart, and was told by the Motorcycle shop to go with the Small, after trying on their Med, which was the smallest size in that store. Since this is more expensive than the helmet or the leathers I last bought, and designed to save life and limb, I'd expect more "tailored" advice, beyond what a tourist buying a sweatshirt would get...
@@jr.6199 I agree! I used my chest size being that it is the larger measurement and I still went up one size because I was right at the limit for going to the next size.
Is it only me, or does anyone else wonder what level of protection is provided by the passive back protector in the event that the airbag does not fire?
Bought the Tech-Air 10 a little while back, completely bugged, does not arm (wtf?!), display doesn't charge, found more info on the interwebs; apparently major issues are common and a return rate of 80% (!!), do not buy until it's clear issues are fixed! will go for Tech-Air 5 which is commonly understood as a good working safety device..., considering protectors are removed to make place for airbags that do not arm, and therefor deploy upon crash, this is a serious safety concern !! check for activation in the app before riding!!
Some of the information you put out in your video is outright incorrect. You can wear a tech air 5 vest with any airbag comparable suit not just an alpinestars suit, the plug is only for the display on the sleeve of your suit. You cannot wear the tech air 10 with any suit, it has to be an airbag compatible suit to allow room for the airbag to deploy
I think this is your answer on the dual deployment or not: The Tech-Air® 10 Airbag System provides an even greater level of comprehensive coverage due to the additional protection of the riders’ hips and requires 2 argon gas inflators to fill the entire volume of the larger airbag when it is deployed in a crash situation. As such, Tech-Air® 10 does not have the dual charge concept like that of the Tech-Air® Race System.
I cant get anyone to comfirm the dual deployment on thr tech air 5.... i would assume the race mode will mimick the race air bag algorithm and allow 2 deployments. If anyone has any concrete statements from alpinestars please let me know. I do not want to by the race air bag since its being phased😊 out

7:20 - Alpinestars did admit fault and reloaded it for free, though, since he could provide it was a false deployment. It sounds like depending on traction control on two wheels for street riding sometimes gives a false sense of security, is that your take also?
