Making the husband incompetent to make the wife look better and to not appear biased when it in fact is. If the wife character was so smart why would she choose someone who can't take care of the kids, ahem RAYMOND!!
I was gonna say possibly to reflect the idea that women just end up sorta marrying their fathers but then you mention[Everybody Loves]Raymond if I'm not mistaken and her father on that show is nothing like Raymond's character|
ALSO
This is ultimately never not(as it is with a parking lot of these other tropes)tha fact that writers + some audiences are convinced that happy is boring when it's also true(ear-regardless of how you feel about tha former)that they just flat-out lack tha talent to make happy serviceable in tha story proper|

People getting facepalmed in pies (or other substances) and jokes that involve wasting food. I can accept it if it happens in a cartoon, but absolutely despise it when it happens in live action shows/movies.
I tried rewatching The Golden Girls after Betty White passed and I couldn't make it through a single episode because of the laughter in a can.
