Thanks for the nice comment. I'm really glad you are enjoying the videos. The photos in these videos were taken by both my brother and myself. We never realised how important they were at the time. But it just shows how important it is to take photos of the ordinary (boring even?) things in life, because before you know it, they've gone and there's no record of them.
born and brought up in Irvine during 50's,60's 70's. well done for recording the disappearance of some of Irvines iconic buildings. brings back memories....sad to see them go but an interesting compilation,
Yeah, exactly. The world evolves so fast around us that its hard to even notice all the little things changing. Irvine being such an old and established town too makes it interesting how the new developments grow around the old and in most cases inherit their land.
Glad you enjoyed it. I sometimes forget how much this place has changed, 'cos I've lived here all my days and it's happened bit by bit. Jogs the memory when I look back at the photos. You may have passed by me on the bike last night when I was out with the dog in Bank St. I was getting a few "after" shots with the camera for the next production (the info tag on the photos says 6.35pm).
Very nice. I have a load of old super 8 films of the Thornhouse Avenue/Duncan Drive/Beech avenue area somewhere. Would love to see some images of Curries Sports Shop and the old Cinema down the lane. Thanks for uploading.
The Safeway was opened about april 1988! I was Just out of hospital after having appendix removed and Safeway was first store i visited with my mum out of hospital lol
The East Road supermarket site was never Morrisons. Opened as Presto in March 1987, converted to Safeway late 1989. Closed down late 2004/early 2005. Demolished and site became an Aldi.
You should start a "Lost Ayrshire" group. Invite folk to send in copies of Irvine, Kilwinning Saltcoats etc for your channel! I'm interested in this sort of thing. I would love to see 1970's/80's photo's/Films of Kilwinning. I was born there and lived there until I was 9, I moved to Edinburgh. I'm always keen to see other viewpoints.
Thanks for that :-) There's more to come when I have time to work on them. Also, my brother took a lot of the photos I post, so it's as soon as he can dig them out and we can meet up, time and work permitting.
Aww worked there after leaving St.Micks William McClure and Son Great Company and the People to Great Squads .Tony+A. Apprentice Brickie.👍🏻🏴✝️🙏🏻💪🏻⚽🍻👍🏻. 0:58

Nice to see the old building again
Really like these videos, live in Irvine myself. Not old enough to remember most of these changing. Nice to see how the town developed.
It's so important to record these things whilst we can; once they're gone, they're gone.
