cool....if I play an amp that has no fx loop in my home I am going to hire a sound man and have him bring along his mixing desk, thanks for the great advice.
I have to go to bat for the Tone King. Was anyone here expecting alchemy? The guy is explaining a work around. The given is that you have no effects loop. Saying "what if" is just changing the given situation. Saying "just buy a new amp" is side stepping the given. Sorry, but I fail to see any stupidity here. I played live for years and did exactly what he is explaining. You were hoping he could wave a magic wand or something?
your advice is if you don't have an effects loop to use someone else's right on man..... If you don't have a good amp then borrow one if your guitar sucks just borrow one if you walk into a club with a lunch box for an amp don't worry the sound guy will hook you up but wait a minute ( what if there is no sound guy)
wtf did I just watch... What a ridiculously stupid piece of advice! "Go ahead, throw in a little reverb and delay pretty much however you feel like it. Is that a Chorus?? Throw some of that on there too! No no, having my guitar smothered in all kinds of mod effects the whole time is perfectly fine. I don't need to change these sounds at all between songs and am perfectly happy with you controlling these crucial and important parts of my sound" - said no guitar player ever..
I don't think this will work for a guitarist with many pedals for different songs, unless he accepts to have the very same tone for every song. So I prefer to stick to the old school advice -standard chain of effects for a single channel amp- until I find a way to mod my Night Train for the effects loop.
im using an orange crush without effects loops. Can i use a pedals like delay, compressor and noise gate combine it with distortion, OD everything directly to the input front of the amp?
on: InspiredProphecy Off: I use my pedals infront of my amp. That is generally the idea behind a pedal board. You have to know though that everything infront of your amp will effect your tone. It would go, Amp to volume/modulators/delay-reverb/compressor/over drive-distortion/wah. You just have to find a happy medium that you like involving both your amp, and your pedals.
You realize that you have it exactly backwards you always put your wah pedal first followed by any overdrive or distortion and then time-based effects at the end
Stupid answer: for effects O.o Seriously though, it's a loop that you put effects in, especially delays, flangers, choruses, reverbs, so that the effects are added AFTER the gain/distortion of the amp. Sometimes if you add those effects in front of the amp or before the distortion, it doesn't sound right. This is not really an issue is you only use a clean tone in your amp.
another thing you can do is you can put effects pedALS threw the mixing board loop on the sme channel that your amp miked is on meaning you add effects to the miked signals
Because people are dumb as fu...k!!! If you use a tape echo you can use that in front off the amp and it gonna give you extra boost ! Or use your amp clean and put a distortion pedal similar to your amp gain and the delay after in front off the amp!! See !! two better solutions !
This idea only works if the sound man in question knows your songs and when and where to add effects. There are plenty of outboard effects loopers to loop pedals etc on the market.
...or...if you have jacks for preamp out / power amp in...you can treat as an effects loop in most cases. Just be certain the impedance coming from the preamp is compatible with the pedal input you're using. Another thing is to make sure you separate the tone-shaping pedals - comps, OD, distortion, EQ - from the true "effects" pedals - reverb, chorus, delay, synth. Of course, there's exceptions to this standard arrangement but it'll help get you started on a clean path. Experiment and have fun. You may discover a truly unique tone that makes your heart sing.
Maybe a stupid question... but would it be possible to put an effect pedal between your head and your cab? I mean It's like the exact same cable that runs from your guitar to the amp. Or am I wrong?
You are wrong. It’s actually NOT the same kind of cable. One is an instrument cable and the other is a speaker cable. If you put effects pedals between your amp and cab, you will fry your effects.
well I've a VOX VT50 modelling amp without a FX Loop.. I also own a BOSS MT2 (which I've recently discovered is a in fact a preamp pedal designed to be put in the effects loop) not to be put into the Input jack of a clean amp.. I'm also getting a BOSS NS-2 pedal soon so I'm just curious how to resolve those issues?
@@LFC-Star use the manual mode to put all your effects. the preset mode actually models inbult effects so maybe thats why it doesnt have a good response to any external stompboxes
If you dont have an effects loop all is not lost.... just dont use your amps distortion and use a pedal instead, then you can put eveything through the front.... its not until you start using the amps distortion that an effects loop comes in handy...... try it and see.... make sure you put stuff like reverb, delay and so on inbetween your distortion/overdrive pedal and amp..... job done.
yea that’s honestly a way better alternative lmfao i always keep a Friedman BE-OD deluxe on my board just as a safety net, that way if something happens to my amp, i can just pick up any cheap clean combo amp and still get a good gain sound
If you watch the whole video, he explains how. If you play a gig and mic your amp, your sound is running through the mixing board, so you can ask the sound guy to add some delay, reverb or other effects to your mic'd signal. Also works if you have an effects loop, but can't afford to buy any effects pedals.
several things to do if the mixing has an fx loop and you got pedals run them threw the channel your miced into or like Tone king says have the sound guy add fx from the board
if you're not playing live with a soundman then you're pretty much screwed. I play bass, and run bass, effects, amp. And my amps had effects loops. but I've never owned a tube amp, so my tone was consistent at lower volumes as it was at higher ones . But great tip for those who do play live and in pro studios.
ok then what if you've a BOSS MT-2 and a BOSS BF3 Flanger which is really designed to go into an effects loop of an amp and you've a BOSS NS-2 noise suppressor pedal too.. Yet you've no effects loop on the amp what does someone do in that instance?
You mentioned that the Vox Night Train was running thru a 4X12 Cab. I know you mix and match many of your heads with different Cabs. Do you think the Cab that comes with the Head sounds the best? Just asking cause Egnater's 2X12 Cab is almost the same size as some others 4X12 cabs and weighs 65lbs, very well made also.
Effects are more of a personal thing (especially those used in a loop...reverb and delay) and are sometimes playing aids. The majority of people hearing you could either care less or not notice if you have reverb or delay. And I don't know what sound guys that you have ever dealt with or even if you have ever played a gig but they are not the type of people who you would tell to do this. They will probably laugh at you and make your sound bad. Just my advice/experience.
"Use the loop in the board" he says... Or for those of us that don't have a $5,000 rack of studio effects or a sound crew how 'bout just running your effects into the front of the amp? Sheesh
Hey TTK, I just want to say that this was pretty helpful. It's always awesome to get some real TIPS from real players. Sure you're a "shred" or at least heavy genre type of guy, but these tips can be used by anyone in any style! keep up more vids like these! 5* + Fav!
hey man, people are jerks on youtube.. i don't dig all the negative comments, your playing sounded good to me. but i think you sort of asked for it with this vid. 1st, u never explained for the beginners why u wouldnt just put the delay in front your amp... 2nd, this is not really a solution unless u want the effect on throughout your performance. 3rd, at a lot of gigs theres not a full on sound guy, like bars, parties, etc. IMO one answer is, have a distortion pedal that sounds close to your amp's dist. tone.. put the delay pedal after.. if u want to switch on delay w/dist, go to clean+kick in both pedals. thanks for the vids, keep rocking!
The tone king? Ask Jesus for forgiveness! Time based effects (with the exception of a few) will only sound good in an effects loop. Such bad advice. What's more is that you are so confident, which makes beginners believe you.. Here's some advice people; if you don't want to waste your time, then seek guidance from people who know what they're talking about. Word!
So when you have a small amp with no effects loop buy a Mic an XLR cable a Mic stand a mixing console an extra power amp some speaker cables some speakers ….effects for the mixing console and two small jumper cables for the effects loop on your mixer... See how simple that was....duh
This is always why you want to try to get along with the sound man at the club you are playing. If you go in with a chip on your shoulder and act like an ass not only can he make you sound like shit you can also forget getting any effects.
if you watch the video? He's talking about in a live context.. In a live context it should be expected they'll be someone with a mixing desk.. So the guy in the video is saying ask the sound guy at the gig to add in effects such as reverb from the mixing desk from your mic'd up amp from the mic. It's quite obvious really..
Is this like a parody Channel? This is a joke right? Did this guy do one where he teaches you how to never go hungry by going to your neighbor's house and asking them if they have a sandwich?
Searching options on what to do with amps w/o an effects loop and this comes up. Only stayed long enough to downvote amd post a negative comment about these videos.

Really? Its NOT an answer to the problem, its monumentally stupid.

You can also run your delay level at 25% in fornt of the amp
How about I drill 2 holes in the back of the amp and shove the cable in?... Surely that will work.
What size drill bit do I need? I assume 1/4" to match the jack plugs? 😂

Yeah you can and it’s been done a lot like that . Drums with DBX miked lots of variations and sounds great
I read the negative comments, none had their own solution to the problem. In the studio thats exactly what happens. Stop hating.
Because people are dumb as fu...k!!! If you use a tape echo you can use that in front off the amp and it gonna give you extra boost ! Or use your amp clean and put a distortion pedal similar to your amp gain and the delay after in front off the amp!!

one does not simply play at the church.

what if I need to add some phaser in a particular part? I won't play with the phaser the whole song.
