Appreciate the break down! Simple & to the point
No problem 🙏
Highly advise running 1500 for relatively newer vehicles AKA 2017 and up, isn’t necessary to go lower unless you have extremely faded headlights then start with 800, go to 1200 then finish off with 2-3k
I have extremely YELLOW oxidized lights, what grit should I use in order??? Ty for your advice
It's better to use more time, and start with 1500 or 1000 at most.
When you sand with the coarse grit, you do the actual sanding. You are basically knocking stuff down, to the level of the scratches. Then the rest are (basically) just to polish it, to knock down the grooves made by coarser paper. Each step is basically to get it down to the level that paper leaves, maybe a micron more.
Then the compound to make it gloss, although it can be done with papers, as long as you go to fine enough grits, step by step.
If you seal the headlights with wax or something like it, remember to reapply. It won't last forever, and then it goes to worse than before real fast.
I recommend a polishing kit with UV hardening lacquer, but remember that they hate water, and really need hard sunshine. But they are good when the weather is right.
I did this with a kit i got from Walmart . I bought 2 and the more expensive one didnt work. The regular "shell brand" worked so well!!! Also i still have enough to do it again if i need to 😊
Do you still
Need to sand with this shell
Kit
I did two headlights on a same car, on the same day, with the same kit. Other was good for years, other side went bad in months. Weather turned to just a bit cloudy and a smallest water droplet came from somewhere to that light when I applied it. It just didn't harden like it should have.
That's exactly how I do my headlight restoration. Unfortunately you do have to continue buffing if you don't use a clear coat it will get damaged again quickly.
That what I was wondering.. so this solution won’t last long Vs clear coat?
@eddylopes9535 it'll last until the wax or oil comes off but I highly reccomend doing a clear coat with uv protection and then putting on car wax or whatever on it. Also I'd reccomend re-sanding it with 2000g if you have orange peel and put caw wax on it.
@@FugaConManolospray a clear coat over it when you finish sanding
Lol I needed this for the exact same car… my 07 Altima.
I kinda fucked mine up cause I use 400g sandpaper 🤣
Oops 😬
Haha I’ve done that before too.
@@seizethespeedcan you explain the sandpaper to me rq. I never understood it. It’s like- the bigger the grit number, the more sanding it does?
@@Squiidgythe smaller the grit the more material it takes and the higher you go is for detailing, so 400 grit is really rough but 2000 grit is way less rough
@@abject_sky1915 okay.. so I bought a kit and made my headlights look BEAUTIFUL- then I put a clear coat over and it absolutely ruined what I did and I couldn’t smear or wipe of or anything, so I had to restart the headlight I did. After restarting I scratched it up I supposed and now there’s a smudge that couldn’t be sanded away(It looks like a bunch of bug splats).. would I have to go really low in grit to get it off- then work my way up? I used… wet 800, wet 1500 then dry 3000 and a polish.
Just use 1500, 3000, then lightly 5000 or 7000 no need for polish then clear coat 😉
The amount of videos that show this with the wrong grits is wild, use 2k 3k and 6k then polish and use a 2 stage clear to seal, then a week later wet sand with 3k and polish again and your good for life 😂 y’all got it all wrong
What do you recommend to seal with?
2k sometimes is not enough if the headlights is really bad
500,800 dry sanding, 3000 wet sand, then you compound using a mini high speed polisher and a heavy cut pad, finish off with HEADLIGHT specific clear coat and your headlights will be brand new. DO NOT USE 2k clear coat on headlights
I have extremely YELLOW oxidized lights on m 2009 Mazda 6, what grit in order should I start this process??? Thank you for your advice
Start with 2k? Might as well use notebook paper. lol. I’ve done headlights for 10 years and I always start with 1k depending on the headlight of course. Sometimes when they’re really bad I start with 400 or 600.
Nice one. Brought our lights up a treat. Thx. 😊
Easy and beautiful
Gotta dab before spinning, can see it flying on the paint 😂
Best way to keep things permanent is to wet sand then spray a couple coats of clear. Youll see the haze from the sanding start to disappear and as the coats dry the headlight will look brand new. You can even wet sand after with 2000 grit and then polish and wax for wet finish.
Good overview, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks man !!
Your link for the ceramic spray is actually a link to the wax.
I'm Sure you could find it yourself on Google
Instantly!..
You want him to come and polish your headlights too?😂
Will it help more if new clear coat is applied?
Yes. Then you have to wet sand the clear. Then a protective sealant and wax for a better more protective finish. Sealant and wax works alone as an easier but more temporary solution.
You can also add 2k clear after you buff it, let it dry and cure for a day(if you have the time to let it sit) then wax it
Will the clear coat last pretty long ?
@@mojojoji5493 basically you are removing the old clear coat by sanding it down and then adding a new layer of clear coat so it should last like 5 + years
DO NOT USE 2k clear on headlights they will develop crows foot cracking over time GUARANTEED
Sylvania kit is the best one- project farm
Gotta do it
Open the hood and won’t have to mask that area.
Great thanks 🙏🏻
But then the engine gets all dirty, even more if you use power tools. An engine is way more difficult to clean than a panel
Or just take the headlights out, it's very straightforward on my car
I got the exact same results using toothpaste with baking soda in it.
how bad were your lights tho? Super foggy?
Dude your mom ever show you how use hood release. That taken out my be 40 percent surface in way 😂 to sand
EXACTLY!!!!! NOBODY EVER DOES THIS😮😮😮
Tysm dude
Anytime!
@@seizethespeed I saw another interesting method that involves using a heat gun to evaporate acetone and pipe it onto the headlight, supposed to make it look brand new immediately. You can even just put acetone in a red bull can and hook a small pipe through it and torch the bottom of it. Maybe you could look into this method too
I will do this soon
What is the name of the compound? and is the polish importante or just the compound is enough?
Polish makes for shine using micro abrasives like toothpaste. Compound is a heavy duty aggressive cleaner.
Instead of masking, why not just lift the hood?
To avoid getting compound all over the engine
Go up to like 3k and put clean on it then a coat of wax or uv protection
How long will it last sir
Are those plastic lens?
Yes
crv th 2008 km 200.000an hadir😁😁
Doesn't last it's better to spray UV coating
Can it be any UV coating? If not, then what type?
@Tas46139 not just any UV. Get some good shit. 1k or 2k for better clear coat. I usually do 800g, 1500g, 2000g and do a little soft cutting and wipe with IPA and clean with IPA and wipe and use 2k clear coat. Looks good as new
Hi i have t-cut compound and polish will it work if i buy a polisher machine and do exactly what you done with the t-cut solution? Thanks
DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT - IT MELTED MY HEADLAMP COVERS AND VERY COSTLY TO REPLACE £175 EACH!!! *WARNING* *WARNING*
T cut destroyed my paintwork be careful what chemicals you're applying to your carl!!
I Little foggy still but much better! Besides nobody would notice if they weren’t looking for it. 👍🏻
Put a new clear coat on that has uv protection thats gonna last way longer
Spray some clear, wet sand, buff.
OPEN THE HOOD!!!!!!
nic
just done mine t cut by hand, finish with wd 40 takes 10mins no masking just hard graft !!!!!!
I used 80g then I bought new ones
😂
Chris fixed in this exact same video basically
Is that a Maruti Suzuki Swift or Nissan Altima
Nissan Altima
He said Vax 😂 lol
Mine is not yellow but very blurry, please help, I paid so much money for those products, please help 😭😭😭
Did that happen after you sand it?
@@seizethespeed yea after I sand it's blurry and I thought it would go away after applying all the products but it's not and still blurry (look like after sanding )
You need apply some pressure when you polish the light, also make sure your using 2000 grit before you polish
@@michaeltuang5554 you would’ve been better off buying on of those kits at auto one for like $15
a professional restored my headlights but there’s a very small hint of haziness and fog, will polishing it help rid of that?
Just buy new.the coating of these plastics headlight covers wont last long.Maybe 2 yrs and start to peel off depends of temp and weather condition.Ignore sun light try to parking in garage.
If i dont have a polisher i can just do it by hand with the microfiber pad right?
Yes it will just take longer

@@johnjohn-cs9eu wow
Bro had a buffer the whole time and still used sandpaper 😂
That just calling for a damaged clearcoat
I would use 2000 grit
You’ll damage and burn with the machine on plastic…
@@mojojoji5493 not true, took autobody for 2 years and we’d buff them with a machine all the time, just turn the power on low and go easy that’s all
Have you tried acetone for the coat you are sanding down?
Acetone can damage the lens, and make it brittle on the top layer.
@@StartRestoringHeadlights are we talking about pure acetone or regular acetone?
Try WD40 first! a simple spray to wet some paper towel then apply. You’ll probably find that in most cases this will be more than enough to get the job well done👍
careful with the wheel on plastic
Domt you want to take the clear coat off?
Didn’t you watch the video?😂
@Jerico I've just heard of pple doing more rough sandpaper is my poiny
Best way is to wet sand. I usually do 800g, 1500g, 2000g and do a little soft cutting and wipe with IPA and clean with IPA and wipe and use 2k clear coat. Looks good as new
@@asilaydying672 what is IPA
@Stefen Phillips where do u get 2000k clear coat at? And what is a soft cut?
This is a temporary fix. To really repair the factory plastic look you should use 2K clear coat instead of the polishing & wax phase.
She leaving in that thang
everything went correctly up until the "sealant" part... neither of those products are a sealant, just protectant to use AFTER its been sealed by either another clearcoat or an actual ceramic coating😂
Can you recommend one and where to find it?
@@LoveLightVibration ceramic coating kit is usually available at most chain auto parts stores..like auto zone
I do that every two years, but now i must replace the headlights, damn shitty plastic headlights, i swear i had a 1989 with factory headlights looks on new, and the only reason i replaced a headlight on a 95 camaro was because the bulb died, those modern plastic headlights are shit, I can't believe new luxury cars come with those plastic headlights
Different cars see dent
Can someone help me listen what’s needed and the brief process of what comes first. I don’t understand what he said. English is not my mother language.
Sand, then polish
I usually do 800g, 1500g, 2000g and do a little soft cutting and wipe with IPA and clean with IPA and wipe and use 2k clear coat. Looks good as new

Nooo just used a can of plexus cleaner
You don’t gotta use the tape 💀
Sounds like jake paul
Torch would have been far more time considering
You should never torch headlights! The thin plastic isn’t going to hold heat. Also the UV coating on the headlights must be redone, simply torching it doesn’t do anything. Torch can work for faded black plastic trim that’s made of an entirely different material
Too complicated!!!
Lol
He’ll not bad so bad don’t used
Nambe just use toothpaste
Guys just use bug spray
Bug spray with the sandpaper?
Lol don't use bug spray it's just gonna come back thats like putting a bandaid on a tire with a gash in it
I HATE this song.
Don't do this it's fake
shouldnt have to go back to glass cheap ass car makers.
