Great video but snow doesn’t slide on rubber. If it was pvc, Tpo or metal it could slide off but prob wouldn’t with that pitch. We just did an 800 square job with pvc last fall here in New England. About the same pitch as that, no parapet walls, only a gutter and edge metal and they had zero snow slides all winter. Which was actually a surprise to me I thought we were going to have to install over 1,000’ of snow guards. The way these boys installed this system on a roof that doesn’t hold water is fine and I don’t think it will ever leak. The only thing I would correct them on is that when you use primer for the peel and stick 12” patch don’t let it dry to a tacky consistency. Let it dry all the way. Any amount of primer that is tacky/sticky will lead to gasses becoming trapped in between the layers that cannot escape and therefore leads to a bad bond that will peel up over time. The misconception I think happens because back in the day rubber roofing before they used peel and stick patches, all patches needed to be cleaned, primed and glued. The glue would dry to a tacky, almost dry consistency and you would stick them together that way. It’s a different system nowadays and you only need cleaner and primer. Cleaner is a huge part of patching old roofs but we even clean our patches on new rubber from footprints dirt etc. ..oh and cut a small square of the peel and stick and stretch one side a bit. Use that to feather the lap sealant instead of the crappy tool that comes with the caulk.

The back side roof is rubber with a very shallow pitch, and every time there's a couple days of thaw the snow from the second story roof THUMPS hard on the first story roof. Same from first story to back deck. I need these snow guards ASAP.
Love these shows when they try and act like they know what they are doing, when in reality they have never done it one time in their life, just got a quick crash course on it likely from the manufacturer of the snow guards, and not the EPDM manufacturer. 1. EPDM walk pads will work better and cost less without penetrating the roof system. 2. Doesn't have wood blocking under the EPDM where the base plate is being mounted. He is talking about wood blocking under the decking which is likely plywood. This means he is installing it directly over the insulation, which will not provide the proper support for railing base plate. This is evident by watching the fasteners go in easily at first then resist once they hit the wood. If he had wood directly under the membrane, as is standard practice, the fasteners would immediately provide resistance going in. You can also see the base plate crush down the insulation when he snugs the screws up, especially the corner ones. 3. There should be water cut off mastic under the membrane where the bolts of the base plate penetrate the membrane. 4. He failed to clean the membrane using membrane cleaner prior to applying the membrane primer (It's not contact adhesive like he called it) 5. He sealed his cut using lap sealant, a no no. He should have made a hole, not a slice in the membrane. The slice now needs repairing not caulking. 6. It's called a grommet. 7. He didn't apply primer to the bracket base prior to applying the lap sealant around the base of the bracket. While the lap sealant will adhere to the metal, the longevity of the lap sealant adhesion is shortened by not applying primer first. 8. On a snow guard pipe system the ice and snow will still slide off under the bottom pole, but to a lesser degree than with no snow & ice protection. Hence walk pads are more effective. 9. Appears to have greater than 6' of fall in his rope. In fact the guy on the left appears to have enough to fall all the way to the ground. 10. Safety harness is loose on both of them. 10. Missing gloves and safety glasses. (Basic PPE) 11. Using red chalk in his chalk line. Experienced low slope roofers don't have red chalk in their line since they also work on white membrane systems. Minor, but a bit of proof he isn't an experienced low slope roof installer, just a general contractor the show picked out. 12. Side note: who is the hack that didn't apply the seam tape on the field seam running up the wall in the background prior to rolling the membrane up the wall? Love guys like this, it provides me with lots of work having to go out and correct what they have done when it fails.

William Miller what do you mean “even” on shingle roofs. The point is that there is not enough pitch on this roof to make snow fall off. If the roof has shingles that mean that it has a 4/12 or greater.

Who is the manufacturer of this system? It looks like it might work to keep the snow from sliding off my solar panels onto the roof and then onto the ground in front of my garage door.
Question to those in the roofing industry: are you legally required to wear those safety harnesses? Even on roofs only 1 story high? They seem like they would get annoying real fast.
Osha requires ropes and harnesses any work over 6ft., it is ridiculous. The ropes are trip hazards as Osha doesnt allow cords on factory floors but not when you are high up. Both these guys would get fines for no eye protection if you get the wrong pissant inspector shows up.
They might be annoying, but if it could potentially save your life then I'd say it's worth dealing with. Better than having your children find out one day that they no longer have a father, or your wife (now widow) finding out her husband just had a freak accident.
Life with Murph Not if it’s deep enough. If the snow becomes wet and builds a layer of moisture between the snow and roof surface, then it slides. If it’s wet enough for that to happen, then the snow usually has enough moisture/surface tension, that it sticks to itself.

Where they are in the Boston area has CRAZY code restrictions. I'd bet it was needed to meet today's code.
