Hey - I'm in the Seattle (FW) area too. Just found your channel. Excited to see your greenhouse build.

do you have a footing under here or is it just 2 rows of cinder blocks on dirt?

Hey, Tim, thanks so much for these greenhouse videos. I found them after beginning to plan mine and I found our thinking was pretty similar - which was very encouraging! I'm getting toward installing the roof. I have one question for you: how did you install the bird block? In the videos I can't see the fixings you used; seems to be not that easy. (My structure is all screwed and bolted together, not nailed. But if it's easier I'll nail the bird block.) My alternative would be to use taller bird block and attach it outside (screwed horizontally into the top plate). That needs more material, though, and I'm trying to minimize my use of new timber.
Incidentally, I'm in a very different climate: central Portugal. Very hot dry summers, cold and often very damp winters. I'm hoping my greenhouse is going to be durable. The timber is local European cedar.
I'll send you some photos if we can private message somehow.
Once again, thanks a lot. Your effort is much appreciated. My greenhouse is going to be way better than it might have been as a result of your careful and measured explanations.

Thanks so much for the kind thoughts about my greenhouse. I wasn't in a hurry so I just nailed everything except the poly carbide plastic roofing. That was definitely screwed. I didn't use bird block because I wanted to completely seal up the house to retain the heat during the coldest nights. We get a small amount of snow in the winter and it does get down into freezing temperatures. In order to combat the growth of mold I keep a fan going inside with a small oil heater that circulates the air around. This typically maintains the temperature on the coldest nights to about 40 degrees.
I beveled the tops of each bird block 2x6 board to parallel the pitch of the roof. I also ran horizontal corrugated spacer boards along the top of the bird blocks to fill the gaps between the valleys and mountains of the corrugated roofing. Several parallel rows of these corrugated spacer boards were installed under the roofing.
Let me know if you have more questions. You may send me pictures of your project at my e-mail - tblairkairos@hotmail.com
      Thanks again- Tim Blair

Hey, this looks fantastic and we are about to start this project. What was the process for the footer? What are the cinder blocks sitting on top of?

I should have actually poured a footer that was squared and leveled but all I did was to dig a trench and laid the cinder blocks and dry fitted them and leveled them all around. After eveything looked level and fitted correctly I ladled in the mortar all around and filled the insides of the cinder block. This may have created a less stable foundation but the weight of the structure hasn't produced any cracks in the foundation.

@@timblair3004 Hello Tim, your videos are very inspirational, especially the mystical garden. I am starting the same project and currious if you have found the 30 inch door to be wide enough for moving all the "stuff" in and out of the greenhouse ?

@@jeffcritchlow6309 Thanks Jeff... I have enjoyed my green house for several years now and the 30" door has been just fine. I just moved my two citrus trees back inside a few days ago and that was easy enough. I'm sure in the coming years as they grow larger I may have some concerns about how they spread. I'll just have to prune them appropriately to maintain their width.

@@timblair3004 Thank you, my foundation is just about complete, working on the door wall. I noticed your j hooks/achor bolts stick up through the sill plate, but for the door sill plate, they look to be flush. How did you do that?

    • @timblair3004

@@jeffcritchlow6309 yes.. I drilled out the lower pressure treated 2x6 with a forsner bit so that the nut on the j hook anchor bolt would be recessed. That is all I did to make sure the bolt wasn't protruding up above the threshold 2x6 board. Thanks for you question. Keep up the work!

Make it wooden with the help of the Woodglut instructions.
