    Your simple solution for being able to swing out your cook station and cook meals outside is the most elegant that I've seen by far.

      Thanks, that's one of my favorite features as well. I am building out a skoolie now and trying to figure out how to get the outdoor kitchen in it too.

    This is awesome,,, not fancy or all store bought , thats the whole charm of it, U actually used ur head and figured out a way to do things. I went and bought a battery operated bug sprayer I found at home depot.I had one I used around the house and thought hey this would be great out camping or hitting the rd.Sit it in the sun all day and its nice by the time I want to use it. I painted it black so it attracks the sun better , and I have a 5 gallon and never even use half of it . U would be surprised how little of water u can use and still have a good shower..The kitchen cabinets that turn to the outside is a great idea..Good job.

      How did you hang your entire kitchen off of the inside of that door ? What did you use to fasten it to the door, and is there any danger of it coming off the door when you open it up ?

    This is the most practical van conversion I've seen out of the 6 months I've been obsessed with watching camper conversions. This layout is exactly what I want except I want the storage sofas to double as pull out beds. My favourite parts have to be the closet and the kitchen. Love this.

    You can get a shower tent that looks like a teepee that could be separate from the van and have your potty inside. Thanks so much for sharing your van build. (: The first thing I"d do is pull out that carpet and lay some vinyl flooring, 1 its easier to clean, not to mention its cheaper to use a broom than it is to run a vacuum, 2 I"d add some inexpensive solar paneling ,best place for that would be Amazon, and last but definitely not least I would insulate the fan, and it wouldn"t hurt to grab one of those buddy heaters, also from Amazon. Other than that, for a first build you"re doing fantastic, and your imagination as worked very well for you, I look forward to seeing more.

    • @lukeFugate
      @lukeFugate  7 років тому

      LOL I already took care of pretty much all of that. Turns out the heater I built puts out more than enough for the factory insulation. I've got an updated tour here>>>ua-cam.com/video/JgimTht-vV8/v-deo.html

    Thanks Luke for this great vid. Nice seeing it from before the beginning. I bought a Swing Away tow bar that does what you explained for your back end. Works great as it allows both doors to open all the way and create a bath n shower between those two back doors. I just have to figure out how to keep the inside lights from coming on when those doors are opened. I'm sure it's just a fuse somewhere. Enjoyed your Ammo Can build too! :-)

      I pulled the light bulbs out of my interior lights. I use battery powered led lights for lighting the interior. They can be individually controlled and they don't drain the house battery.

    as far as lighting goes use as much LED lights as possible because they don't use very much power.
    As for the spare tire, maybe mount it underneath the rear of the van? This is how my Euro Ford van has it. When i need it i need to crank it down to be able to drag it from under the van.
    That shower idea is great. I just might do the same thing.

    I liked your van, very roomy and spacious. I would like to see how your bed arrangement works from those two small sofas. One caveat: the clamp that holds your kitchen door open against the side of the van, that could be very dangerous and I would suggest changing it to a flush mounted clasp (could use a recessed marine cabinet latch, which would be safer). Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks for the comment. I just did an updated tour video yesterday and actually just finished processing it. It will answer your questions about the beds(there are two) and also addresses the outside door latch, which was also a concern for me. I love the swinging sink cabinetry and the closet. Have you thought about putting the dinette from back to front and making it long enough to sleep in, put it up against the wall and move your side table to the other side?

    • @lukeFugate
      @lukeFugate  7 років тому

      It actually sleeps pretty good for my wife and I the way it is. I guess for someone taller than me it would be a little tight. When I was first mocking it up I put it in like you're saying but I noticed it blocked off the doors so I didn't have the aisle down the middle. I still occasionally haul lumber in the van and I can still get 12 foot long boards in there and still close the doors.

    hi Luke I just watched the video not a bad deal I have a 1990 Dodge B250 full conversion van I myself and planning on extending it into a camper van to do some traveling I was going to buy an RV Class C or Class B but why I have everything I need it's my own on Wheels if I decide to use it that way I will build a bed in the back and play storage underneath also I plan on getting solar panels so I can power the inside without the engine running just like everybody else does it I wish you the best of luck finishing your van I hope I don't run into any problems with mine but if I do it's trial and error I have approximately three hundred thousand miles on mine it's been well maintained would not be scared to take it across the United States and back also eventually I'd like to go up into Vancouver Canada and check out that part of the country since I'm an east coast native this is the time of my life to enjoy life on the highway good luck to yourself as they say in the Navy weigh anchor and Full Speed Ahead

      Everette Holland Solar panels are the way to go. I got some on mine now and they work great. If you maintain a vehicle properly, it will last a long time. I have a 68 Chevy truck with 600,000 miles on it,and I'd drive it anywhere. I wish you luck.

    You have done a great job with what you have. I love the way you made the kitchen swing out, which would be great, especially if you are grilling. It looks cozy and comfy. Where do you sleep ? is there a piece you put in the middle to make that a whole bed ? Have you thought of bringing a TV tray with you as a little table for inside. Looking good....will keep checking for updates.

    Some great ideas: hope you don't mind if I borrow some. I think that closet would be a great place for the toilet-very private. I know you already have an idea for locating that, but I'm jealous of all that space!

    I read the comments first and I agree with CB; Please remove that bracket on the right side in which you attach your swinging sink, table to. It really could hurt someone by accident. Use a bungee cord and hook it on the front lip of the rear wheel. Back when states had full car inspection they would fail people who had ripped sheet metal on the body as it could catch someone's clothing if they brushed up the side of a moving vehicle and drag or cut them. You would feel worse if some kid got hurt on that thing if you were camping and they were catching a frisbee or football and ran into that when the door was closed. I think your idea for the shower is Great! Use heavy duty magnets to temporarily attach the awning to the body of the van, top and sides. Nice build otherwise!

    • @lukeFugate
      @lukeFugate  7 років тому +2

      I could use a 1 inch round neodymium magnet that I have left over from a pma alternator conversion. That would hold the door open very well and would be safe. Thanks for the suggestions.

    the kitchen swinging to the outside is the best idea for space and kitchen idea I have seen. Two thumbs up, there. You are off to a really good start! The utube channel "into the mystery 13" has some really great info on van conversion builds, and how to make things lighter weight... Jed has a whole catalog of good videos that may be helpful for you.
