    R.I.P. Marshall
    As far as the light goes, he's right about the included battery. Electronic switch is a bit too sensitive. But what I didn't like is that Klarus highlights that this light comes with a free battery included. And they make a good 14500 battery that is direct USB charging. Not a great battery, but a good one. So I bought another Klarus 14500. Thinking I'd have two that I can rotate in this light since I do have a AA delrin battery locker as well. Nope! Cheap, generic, AA alkaline. Practically worthless. So ended up with just one Klarus 14500 that lives in the light. Charging times definitely a bit too long. Thankfully since then, gotten a couple of other 14500s _from a different brand._
    Overall: A good light for EDC. Just make sure that the sensitive switch is to the side of the pocket-carry clip. And best to clip it to the top of a back-pocket on your pants. Would have happily paid a bit more if Klarus included one of their 14500 cells as the free battery, instead. Toss in a cheap USB to micro USB charging cable. Honestly, the Mi7 was never a popular light. Part of that has to do with the User Interface. The clip is far from great. Electronic switch too sensitive, and finally the whole Included Battery fiasco. Don't hype up your light as one of the best 14500-based flashlights on the market, say a battery is included, and then toss in a crappy AA alkaline as that battery. Going to upset a lot of people to your brand. And honestly, I can't see Fenix, Olight, or Nitecore making such a blatantly bad error in judgement.

    I carry mine in my pocket and the lockout switch imo is necessary but easy to activate/deactivate. Great light!

      I agree. But I don't use the electronic lockout, just loosen the head. A quarter turn or less is fine and it has never accidentally turned on.

    I don't know what's happened to alkaline batteries. When Duracell alkaline batteries came on the market they where guaranteed not to leak (or your equipment would be repaired/replaced). A couple of days ago, I found 2x AAA Duracell in a remote control. The expiry on them was 2004. They still have over 1.5 volts in them so work perfect, and there's no signs of leakage. Nowadays, Duracell leak like there's no tomorrow - even ones in their cardboard pack with plenty of expiry date on them. But back in January, I found that 2x AA Duracell in a Zoom recorder had leaked. The recorder had been used during the early part of when I put them in. I think they'd been in for a total of around 4-6 months. The expiry on them was 2021. I wonder where it all started going wrong with Duracells... Quality control? Shoddy manufacturing? Bad materials? Lowest bidder?

    I do not understand that the standard is not that the pocketclip can be reversed? The lights of this size is so very convenient to put on your cap when both hands are busy and you need to see what you do. For me that is a big big minus on a flashlight like this. It's no big deal for the manufacturer to produce the flashlight with that possibility, whether on the design or the functionality point of view. Ffs It's "almost" there already in this light, why not give it that fantastic ability??? Otherwise, it seems to be an amazing light that I probably can not resist buying anyway ....

    Some lights start looking nice when the anodising is scratched and you can see the metal, but it only really works with black anodising.
    It's a similar reason to why people like their jeans with holes in and with rub marks.
    But with flashlights, it says a lot about the company, if the anodising comes off easily it can mean it's poorly made but if it stays on it's usually a good product.

    5 lumens in moonlight is too high. Should have made it lower like 0.5.

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson 6 років тому

      HarryUnchained agreed. That is not moonlight. The mode spacing in general is terrible. There should be something around 50 lm to get better runtimes.

    I think it's safe to say if a customer bought a premium flashlight only to have it fail and needs to wait months to have it again, that brand has likely lost the customer permanently.
    The build quality on my first XT12GT was a joke.

      The expensive/lengthy warranty process is what keeps a lot of my friends from getting into expensive lights. They'd rather carry a cheap light from the hardware store knowing they'll exchange it if broken, or at least be cheap to replace if they won't. To them it's a definite deal breaker that you pay more to get worse after-sales service.
      My first XT12GT had bad build quality all around; the plastic ring around the magnetic charging port was cut badly and fraying around the edges(also seen this on other samples in videos and pictures), the magnetic keychain charger had deep scratches to the surface of the brass(?) coating, the light flickered on Turbo, and made a buzzing noise from the head on all modes but Turbo.
      Luckily I had bought it from Amazon and was able to do a quick and painless exchange; new one was better except that it still has a pretty bad whine on High mode. Lots of others have reported the same buzzing issue as well. Have you checked the ones in your inventory at all? Perhaps they have gotten better over time, but more of them seem to whine on the lower output modes than not.

    Hi! awesome review! it convinced me to get one of this for my collection. I have a question though, will a 14500 IMR battery work on this? will it make it light brighter? Thanks Marshall! been a long time subscriber. keep up the awesome reviews!

    Not bad, like the size. Pocket Clip looks like it could be 'attached' w\ string, on one of the Lid's Holes, to keep it 'in place', ("oriented"). ~ Thanks
    ~ * Just read of Marshall's death, how very sad! - peace to his family and friends ~*
    Marshall - It's said, 'you can't take it with you' - no worries, You carry the Brightness 'taut'.

    Hi, I really enjoy your videos! I was just wondering if you have any recommendations for work in very wet, humid, and hot conditions. Because of this all my flashlights I buy seem to break from humidity? I had the jetbeam t6 pro but I think humid and heat may have hurt the interface? I've went thru about 4-5 flashlights. Just because of humidity, and heat?

      I can't speak from experience, but perhaps diving lights are something to consider, or at least something with potted electronics.

    Marshall, I think you're being generous. The infomercial lights generally don't have anywhere near the advertised output, and sometimes even have safety issues. An example of such lights is this model: i.imgur.com/4ENWIJo.png

    • @oktosite_
      @oktosite_ 7 років тому

      I get that. It's better to let the quality of your products speak for itself, especially as a vendor.
      As an independent consumer though, I'll be happy to crap on any product that deserves it. I did make it a point not to call out a specific brand in the comments on your video.

    • @TheFrogInYourClosetWatchingYou
      @TheFrogInYourClosetWatchingYou 4 роки тому

      Stainless steel is not great for lights... I have a stupid overpriced triple A light that's stainless and gets way to hot way to fast versus its aluminum counterpart. I don't think a stainless version could even use a 14500 and if so it could only run for seconds on hi mode. You want aluminum copper or titanium

    Anyone know why marshall chose the name going gear? Where is it going? Is it going to get lost or trashed or thrown out of your window or maybe used for target practice? Since I don't seem to hear anything from the former owner I am assuming its going out of business maybe? I don't get it.

    Dims at 1.2v on my Fujitsu LSD's even on low to a useless amount of lumens, garbage unless using lithium.

  • @50kArchipelagos

    69 bucks. No appreciable battery. No charger for any type of battery you might employ. Buy your own 14500 battery, charger, sheath, put up with a blue dinosaur era light to ruin your night sleep if using it to book-read, no hcri option. Add it up it's a hundred bucks for accessories and light, for you to lose sleep over... no thanks. This is a very optimistic and good video but it's not a product for the conscientious.
