All the people constantly moving here is destroying Minnesota. It's getting worse and worse every single day. It's super sad for me as someone who was born and lived here all my life. I've never felt like I needed to move, but I do now. People who move here from whatever crappy place they left, just turning Minnesota into the crappy place they left. Unless in a rural area, the public schools are terrible and I refuse to send my kids there. The TRAFFIC IS INSANE! Is it LA? No, but our infrastructure cannot handle all the people moving here. Minnesota WAS nice BECAUSE it was "empty wasteland" (even though farm land is literally the opposite of wasteland). The political situation is untenable and extremely divided. Crime keeps getting worse and worse. Minnesota used to be the kind of place where you could leave your doors unlocked while you went on vacation for 2 weeks and never had to worry about sending your kids outside to play. Now, you better get a security system.
Okay but if nobody moves to Minnesota and only moves to neighboring states then you'll get outclassed. Other states wages will get higher, their economies will, boom stronger, more houses and stores built. More people means more production, less people= a desert. There's been plenty of boom and bust towns, keep hating new residents your town will crumble to nothing soon with that attitude. 😊
Me to ..born in St Paul tho lived more in Mpls..I liked close to uptown..lake of the isles and Cedar lake..Nokomis..I haven't been back since way before Floyd was killed..it gives me the eebie jeebies what all went down in that area..i worked at Sears 13th floor way back as a data entry clerk and 8 credit lines..what they did to that liquor store and basically everything else makes me literally sick..I used to walk Prince home..not that he needed it but How are you to feel safe at all southside??! Lifelong resident (58 years) of Minnesota (St. Paul). Beginning in 1990 we began experiencing "white flight" losing educated middle to upper class while gaining lower-income residents from other states. Now a huge problem with social services (life rafts) being overcrowded - cities rotting inner core
White flight? Do you know the inner cities hand more money out than the suburbs and small towns? Seems to be really working right? Its the culture. That simple. These elite acting like they care so much and giving everyone white guilt are sick people that know what they are doing. My husband and I just watched this. We are both Minnesotans, living in the Twin Cities suburbs most of our lives. We agree with most of this! I think the reason it is going downhill here, (being brutally honest,) is our state welfare system, all the immigrants, and people coming in from other states that hear/learn about it come here to benefit, not to work, and the hard core liberals. They want, "Anything goes," and don't care how much they tax us to get it. It's sad... We're thinking of getting out of this state, soon! Maybe North Carolina, Florida, or Texas? I grew up and lived in Minnesota until my late 30's about 10-15 minutes from the Mall of America. Been away for quite a while now. Was heartbreaking to see all the riots last year, as I know that area of Minneapolis very well. Back then I had a couple of my siblings that lived out in that area, so I'm quite familiar of that part of town. Back then there was crime, but for the most part if you kept to yourself, you were fine. Sounds like it is much different now..

I agree the crime in the Cities is getting out of hand, but can we discuss it without the classist digs against poor people. The people in the poor neighborhoods are more likely to be the victims of crime. They're the ones who have to worry about their kids getting shot. And how many times were the homeless mentioned? Sure, some homeless have drug addiction and mental health issues, but it's really a sign of an affordable housing shortage. Like most trendy big cities, Minneapolis has been going hog wild the last decade or so, building luxury apartments and condos. That's fine, every city wants the wealthy to live there. But if that's all that's built, if low-income renters are kicked out then you're going to have a homeless problem.

I live in St. Paul but I grew up on the West Coast--and #6 is so true! No one takes the last of anything and many people here will cut what remains in half forever. The donut box photo was classic. Even after living here for 15 years, it's still one of the most endearing Minnesota phenomena.
Been in Minnesota all my life. 62 yrs. I'm seeing the changes from 60's, 70's ect. We are going thru some serious changes. People have to stand up for our neighborhoods and not let crime and drugs take over. We need more treatment facilities and more police. Remember Minnesota nice. Respect each other and our beliefs. Ever since I’ve lived here it hasn’t been nice. And that’s a thing I never understood why we say that. I’ve traveled all around and felt the southerners are the nicest. “ southern hospitality” I have had people invite me to there homes numerous times down south, there more honest too.
As a Minnesota native (50 years deep and still counting) most of what he speaks is truth, only disagree with the places to live part of the video. Most of the little cities in Minneapolis are spotty, and have both good and bad sides to them, and for the most part if you keep to yourself, then you have nothing to worry about. The people interviewed on here are going by what has been reported in the news (sensationalism) and never lived the experience to know what the cities is like
Thank you. I'm glad someone explained this well. I live in Minneapolis myself and there is good and bad sides to it, like you mentioned. But overall, things are ok and I feel safe for the most part. You just have to stay alert mostly during the night, but other than that, things are ok. Of course, it could always be better.
I agree ..been in Minnesota for almost 60 years and have never had one thing stolen or have ever been confronted anywhere .. and I’ve lived in all corners of the state including southern Minnesota ( the cities) and drove everywhere for my job.. young people are hardly ever outside because of gaming so they aren’t the best to ask advice.. ask anyone pre internet 50+ because we can compare the past century to modern day.

Born & raised in west central Minnesota. Sad to not see that area mentioned in this video because it’s probably the best area of MN to raise a family! Mostly rural where people still have high morals and willing to help out their neighbors. Great schools, lots of outdoor activities to do all year round, lots of manufacturing & agriculture jobs.
I'd take my small town rube status out here in the backwoods hick lands of Minnesota over almost anything. But that lady is correct...those hills in southern Minnesota are almost in motion when you first see that lovely green rolling away from you. God thats a pretty place.
I relocated to Minnesota a year and a half ago it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I would have never been able to obtain the quality of life that I'm living now in Southern California. If you're looking to stay in a nice neighborhood with a little bit of City south of Saint Paul would be great you have Inver Grove heights, mendota heights, Eagan and also by Mall of America anywhere within these area is very nice beautiful cities

I lived in Southern California (Redondo Beach) but moved because of the rat race. I planned on retiring in MN but changed my mind because of the liberal politics of MN. My parents grew up in MN but left after world war 2 and moved to Redondo Beach. My great grandparents immigrated from Ireland and Norway in the 1800s and lived in Buhl MN. I have to MN three times and liked it very much. My cousins all live in Minneapolis now and still love it very and wouldn't leave for anything. Where did you live in Southern CA.??
Wow! I appreciate the effort the channel made for this video, but things have dramatically changed in the last year following elections. MN Legislature (DFL) has over 3000 bills they are ramming through without committee or public comment to be signed by Governor (DFL). Normally there are about 250 - 300 bills. Bills include: banning of all fossil fuels and appliances including fireplaces by 2040. State will be 100% windmills and solar panels, but they don't work well in MN. On average windmills in MN generate only 57% of the energy it took to build, ship, maintain them before they are retired. Solar panels in MN do worse. Also, Income and Property taxes are sky rocking, an average of 25% increase in western MN last year. All in, Mn now highest taxed state in country and new and additional taxes are coming. Corruption, MN DHS was paying 750MM per year for daycare centers in the Somalian community that didn't exist, now last year DHS and MN Dept Ed was caught in a 650MM fraud for a Somalian School lunch program that didn't serve any meals, most of the kitchens and food services were PO Boxes. No one was fired for either, and no changes have been made to either program. Even the FBI got involved, but nothing happened and it was quickly dropped. MN codified into law that now a baby can be aborted after birth, and children as young as 8 years old can have sexual reassignment surgery without parental consent. A parent that attempts to intervene can be arrested and the child will be moved into State Care/Housing. There is all manner of firearm restrictions now too. For example, you cannot possess a firearm and ammunition in your home at the same time. There is a schedule and blanket search warrant the courts approved for random audits of citizens. Violation of this law is a class A felony, ten years in prison an $10,000 fine. Speaking of crime, car jackings, murder, rape, assault break records each year now. The U of MN forecasted to lose 25% of enrollment next year as parents pull their kids. It's just too dangerous in that area. Small businesses are also now required to offer family leave, which costs on average $38,000 per employee and affects businesses with 10 or more employees. Also, the GIG Economy has become unlawful, (something California tried to do, but couldn't get it passed) this had tons of push-back because it shutters whole industries and countless workers, but it was rammed through. The bottom line, is that the state is hemorrhaging businesses as well as the productive while gaining thousands of people each month that rely solely on welfare. While property taxes are scheduled to increase by 15 - 20% each year, home values are falling and there is a race to sell, particularly west of the Mpls. People are taking what's left of their equity and running, it's all happening so fast. After 50 years of living west of Mpls, we are doing the same. People are saying the only way to survive is work for the State Gov't, but even that will fail after businesses are gone, home owners fled and the tax base dries up. Even 3M in St. Paul are relocating significant branches of production out of state and Huber Lumber (they make Zip Siding for houses), just last week cancelled a proposed 440MM production facility they had already started building, but chose to cut losses and go to another state. Again, all of this is happening at a scale and pace not even large corporations anticipated. My advise to anyone productive or law abiding, STAY AWAY!!

I live in Duluth but grew up in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. Everything said in this video is accurate. Great paying jobs, good schools and universities, somewhat affordable homes, and overall a good quality of life. Has It's downsides like anywhere else
Too many culture clashes, conflicting politics, and general lack of maintenance has made the Twin Cities tough now. Everyone has too many different ideas and going through so many of them rapidly has given no foothold to anyone, so the regular people who don't adapt well to that end up suffering.
Saint Paul has just as big of a homeless issue as Minneapolis. The uptick is more to deal with construction Nicolett park to help with the super bowl as well as Allianz field in Saint Paul. They uprooted the the homeless population in those two which are huge spots for the homeless so now it's a issue for other places that aren't used to having them around.
I'm 64 and I've lived here my whole life, I stayed for family, job. I think it's a horrible place to live, can't think of 1 good thing about it. It is becoming more and more dangerous. A lady was beheaded in Shokopee recently. Don't come here! Not because we don't want people like Idaho, but your will be miserable and maybe unsafe.

Minnesotans have access to the world’s best medical care at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Rochester is a very prosperous city of over 100,000 people because of the Mayo Clinic, and many tech startups. IBM still has significant, though diminished presence in Rochester. Overall, Rochester and south eastern Minnesota is an attractive, family friendly and prosperous area to live with lots of opportunities for people who live there.

I'm from Minnesota, born in St. Paul raised in Minneapolis. I love my state, it's beautiful here. Cold, but beautiful😂. But I think the best place to live is Morris, MN. It's the safest place I've ever been in my life. Great school system, the community is for the community, everybody here is really welcoming here. I moved here last year & I love. The cost of living is affordable, we have a U of M campus here. If you love agricultural living, this is really a great place for you to live. I'm a city girl, but I love the peace of mind I get out here in the country. Don't get me wrong, I still love home(North Minneapolis), but I'll take peace of mind & safe living. Fun fact: Portuguese for Saint Paul is São Paulo so basically Brazil’s cultural and economic epicenter has the same name as Saint Paul except neither of them r similar cities. São Paulo is more like Brazilian NYC while Saint Paul is similar to Hamilton which is in Canada next to Toronto in Ontario (that interesting since I think Minnesota is basically like Canada in America cuz of the people and their friendliness, culture, economics, weather, etc. lol)
I've stayed in Sao Paulo, even though I didn't realize that fully while there, it is not like New York, closer to Minneapolis then it is then NYC, but smaller developed areas surrounding São Paulo then Minneapolis.
Thanks for the thorough coverage of Minnesota and what it has to offer. Just wanted to add a few more points about the Twin Cities neighborhoods and safety. I have lived in St. Paul my entire life. Yes there are some areas I would not walk alone in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, BUT most areas support safety, good education, the cultural arts, and diversity. The Twin Cities is growing rapidly. Every few months there are new high rises, condos, apartments being built in the metro area to support the growing population. We are also in the top ten cities for climate migration due to the many lakes and fresh water available. With higher population numbers comes higher volume of crime. I wish there was harsher punishment for criminals, but you'd be surprised to learn that a good majority of petty thefts are done by teenagers and some as young as 12. So they don't get as harsh punishment because they are younger. The homeless issue is also bad-everywhere, even in the sub burbs. Some people just couldn't get back on their feet after Covid and some who should probably be in a mental health facility are out on the streets. (Most are harmless) But I also think this is nationwide and something that needs to be addressed on a larger scale (Federal level). After George Floyd there was a negative view of Minneapolis worldwide. It was hard to watch everyone only identify Minneapolis based on one horrible event. The police are working hard to try to be more engaged with the public but its challenging to strike a balance to always find common ground. I will say a very small percentage were actually supportive of defunding the police. Most communities, especially diverse communities want the police around and to increase their numbers. That said, some charming neighborhoods in Minneapolis include Saint Anthony Main, University Avenue by Prospect Park, Kenwood, the Chain of Lakes (Lake Harriet, Lake of the Isles, and Lake Bde. Mka Ska.) In Saint Paul there are quaint old neighborhoods around Grand Avenue, Summit Avenue, Highland Park and Como Park. There are more safe, welcoming, and well kept neighborhoods but this is just off the top of my head. Areas to avoid, Midway area in St. Paul is pretty rough. Also in Minneapolis, downtown by Target field (when you are by yourself), West Bank by Cedar/Riverside, and North Minneapolis. Overall though, the Twin Cities is a vibrant cosmopolitan area that celebrates both old and new, and takes pride in the arts, education, diverse foods, and diverse cultures. And when you are craving nature and fresh air, there are hundreds of state parks, the BWCA, Voyageurs National Park, many lake side destinations, and the North Shore to escape the bump and grind of the city. Despite recent events, MN is still a great place to live and raise a family.
Don't move to Duluth. The local government doesn't care about its residents and only caters to tourists. Too many hipsters keep moving here so affordable housing is hard to find.

There's a lot of bedroom communities around Duluth - Esko, Cloquet, Hermantown, Proctor. Buddy lives in Esko. Not that bad of a commute even in the winter if you want to live near Duluth.
Hey there bud, I think it should be noted that the police stopped doing their jobs altogether, and it isn't because of the drop in funding. They stopped going on patrol, and stopped responding to call for a while in order to teach us all a lesson that we needed them, at least that's how I heard it from around here.
I heard they were ordered to not pursue. Not sure how long that lasted but it felt like police disappeared for a while. The carjackings and reckless driving are still going strong in 2023 lol.
During the planned riots, they were literally told to stand down and leave a few departments. The police alone could have handled those kids. They let them do what they did. ANY politician should know to stop a riot in its tracks immediately. Made it obvious it was one of many planned occurrences. The blm riots were planned and instigated by outsiders just like the jan 6 scam. The police lost faith in the leaders by watching all this nonsense happen. I would too if I were them. Until 2020, I thought Minneapolis was a gentile mid west city. However, I grew up with the Mary Tyler Moore Show and even Little House on the Prairie. I guess my perception was skewed.
Learned a couple of new things. Live in Minneapolis for at least 26 years. Minneapolis is a great areas to live in. No plan to move. I'm less then a mile In all directions to abody of water, walking paths, bike paths, and dog parks. Little hop to st paul. Minneapolis is 60 square miles, there are collectively only maybe 6-8 square miles spread around select areas that I wouldn't feel safe living in. We've had a rough year, but the stigma the riots created has been blown out of proportion a bit. You want to see a really dangerous city look up crime in Indianapolis.

I was born and raised in Nor CA l and have been living in WA State the past 20 years. West Side and East Side. We all know about the decline that this state is going through. Im currently living about an hour south of Spokane. I admit the cold is what was keeping me away from seriously considering MN but so many positives about MN trump the weather. Yea living in duluth my whole life, it's not a great place to live. For tourists it's great. So, if you live 15-20 mins outside of duluth that betters because you get out of duluths absolutely crazy tax rate, the big spike in crime and cheaper housing outside duluth, still experience the city, just not live in it

I’ve lived here my hood life.. we hit -60 the year she’s talking about and absolutely nothing shut down.. our schools don’t shut down until the windchill is -70 .. the worst parts to live in Minnesota is definitely the Twin Cities .. everywhere else is great.. she isn’t the best person to ask she’s to young ..I’ve lived in every part of the state.. drugs are not a issue only in north Minneapolis.. crime has always been the lowest in the country.. as far as living .. we spend more money on infrastructure, that’s roads , trails , nature ..etc.. than any other state.. we’re all Germans , Swedes and Norwegians .. the only problem we had was when they took in all the Somalians and Hmong’s in the late 90’s which skyrocketed our crime rate and theft .. so do the math .. also drug eaters from Chicago moved to Minneapolis which again started the murder , crime in general .. the black family unit is in shambles which drove crime up due to know fathers .. just don’t come here .. PS .. Duluth is not for young people .. in summer way to many tourists..and it’s colder because it’s on the lake and cost of living is higher. Remember when you say Minneapolis.. that includes the suburbs.. which are beautiful and very very nice.. St Paul is actually very small but a beautiful place for nature .. and historic areas.. Rochester is very nice but it’s a expensive city with most working for the Hospital and Mayo Clinic.

I know it's what the maps say but I believe the true source of the Mississippi is Lake St Croix in Wisconsin. Where equal size rivers connect it's arbitrary which they name the source of the resulting river. The French Voyages used Lake St Croix and the St Croix River to cross from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi to get to New Orleans. There is a short portage from Lake Superior's Brule River to St Croix Lake.

All the people constantly moving here is destroying Minnesota. It's getting worse and worse every single day. It's super sad for me as someone who was born and lived here all my life. I've never felt like I needed to move, but I do now. People who move here from whatever crappy place they left, just turning Minnesota into the crappy place they left. Unless in a rural area, the public schools are terrible and I refuse to send my kids there. The TRAFFIC IS INSANE! Is it LA? No, but our infrastructure cannot handle all the people moving here. Crime keeps getting worse and worse. Beginning in 1990 we began experiencing "white flight" losing educated middle to upper class while gaining lower-income residents from other states. I grew up and lived in Minnesota until my late 30's about 10-15 minutes from the Mall of America. Been away for quite a while now. Was heartbreaking to see all the riots last year, as I know that area of Minneapolis very well. Back then I had a couple of my siblings that lived out in that area, so I'm quite familiar of that part of town. Back then there was crime, but for the most part if you kept to yourself, you were fine. Sounds like it is much different now..

I live in St. Paul but I grew up on the West Coast--and #6 is so true! No one takes the last of anything and many people here will cut what remains in half forever. The donut box photo was classic. Even after living here for 15 years, it's still one of the most endearing Minnesota phenomena.

Ever since I’ve lived here it hasn’t been nice. And that’s a thing I never understood why we say that. I’ve traveled all around and felt the southerners are the nicest. “ southern hospitality” I have had people invite me to there homes numerous times down south, there more honest too.
As a Minnesota native (50 years deep and still counting) most of what he speaks is truth, only disagree with the places to live part of the video. Thank you. I'm glad someone explained this well. I live in Minneapolis myself and there is good and bad sides to it, like you mentioned. But overall, things are ok and I feel safe for the most part. You just have to stay alert mostly during the night, but other than that, things are ok. Of course, it could always be better.

I relocated to Minnesota a year and a half ago it was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. I would have never been able to obtain the quality of life that I'm living now in Southern California. If you're looking to stay in a nice neighborhood with a little bit of City south of Saint Paul would be great you have Inver Grove heights, mendota heights, Eagan and also by Mall of America anywhere within these area is very nice beautiful cities

I lived in Southern California (Redondo Beach) but moved because of the rat race. I planned on retiring in MN but changed my mind because of the liberal politics of MN. My parents grew up in MN but left after world war 2 and moved to Redondo Beach. My great grandparents immigrated from Ireland and Norway in the 1800s and lived in Buhl MN. I have to MN three times and liked it very much. My cousins all live in Minneapolis now and still love it very and wouldn't leave for anything. Where did you live in Southern CA.??

Wow! I appreciate the effort the channel made for this video, but things have dramatically changed in the last year following elections. MN Legislature (DFL) has over 3000 bills they are ramming through without committee or public comment to be signed by Governor (DFL). Normally there are about 250 - 300 bills. Bills include: banning of all fossil fuels and appliances including fireplaces by 2040. State will be 100% windmills and solar panels, but they don't work well in MN. On average windmills in MN generate only 57% of the energy it took to build, ship, maintain them before they are retired. Solar panels in MN do worse. Also, Income and Property taxes are sky rocking, an average of 25% increase in western MN last year. All in, Mn now highest taxed state in country and new and additional taxes are coming. Corruption, MN DHS was paying 750MM per year for daycare centers in the Somalian community that didn't exist, now last year DHS and MN Dept Ed was caught in a 650MM fraud for a Somalian School lunch program that didn't serve any meals, most of the kitchens and food services were PO Boxes. No one was fired for either, and no changes have been made to either program. Even the FBI got involved, but nothing happened and it was quickly dropped. MN codified into law that now a baby can be aborted after birth, and children as young as 8 years old can have sexual reassignment surgery without parental consent. A parent that attempts to intervene can be arrested and the child will be moved into State Care/Housing. There is all manner of firearm restrictions now too. For example, you cannot possess a firearm and ammunition in your home at the same time. There is a schedule and blanket search warrant the courts approved for random audits of citizens. Violation of this law is a class A felony, ten years in prison an $10,000 fine. Speaking of crime, car jackings, murder, rape, assault break records each year now. The U of MN forecasted to lose 25% of enrollment next year as parents pull their kids. It's just too dangerous in that area. Small businesses are also now required to offer family leave, which costs on average $38,000 per employee and affects businesses with 10 or more employees. Also, the GIG Economy has become unlawful, (something California tried to do, but couldn't get it passed) this had tons of push-back because it shutters whole industries and countless workers, but it was rammed through. The bottom line, is that the state is hemorrhaging businesses as well as the productive while gaining thousands of people each month that rely solely on welfare. While property taxes are scheduled to increase by 15 - 20% each year, home values are falling and there is a race to sell, particularly west of the Mpls. People are taking what's left of their equity and running, it's all happening so fast. After 50 years of living west of Mpls, we are doing the same. People are saying the only way to survive is work for the State Gov't, but even that will fail after businesses are gone, home owners fled and the tax base dries up. Even 3M in St. Paul are relocating significant branches of production out of state and Huber Lumber (they make Zip Siding for houses), just last week cancelled a proposed 440MM production facility they had already started building, but chose to cut losses and go to another state. Again, all of this is happening at a scale and pace not even large corporations anticipated. My advise to anyone productive or law abiding, STAY AWAY!!

Saint Paul has just as big of a homeless issue as Minneapolis. The uptick is more to deal with construction Nicolett park to help with the super bowl as well as Allianz field in Saint Paul. They uprooted the the homeless population in those two which are huge spots for the homeless so now it's a issue for other places that aren't used to having them around.
I'm 64 and I've lived here my whole life, I stayed for family, job. I think it's a horrible place to live, can't think of 1 good thing about it. It is becoming more and more dangerous. Rochester is a very prosperous city of over 100,000 people because of the Mayo Clinic, and many tech startups. IBM still has significant, though diminished presence in Rochester. Overall, Rochester and south eastern Minnesota is an attractive, family friendly and prosperous area to live with lots of opportunities for people who live there.

It's the safest place I've ever been in my life. Great school system, the community is for the community, everybody here is really welcoming here. I moved here last year & I love. The cost of living is affordable, we have a U of M campus here. If you love agricultural living, this is really a great place for you to live. I'm a city girl, but I love the peace of mind I get out here in the country. Don't get me wrong, I still love home(North Minneapolis), but I'll take peace of mind & safe living. Back in the day Minnesota had a great balance of social programs and businesses that could pay for said social programs; sort of a balance between income and expense, right? Thanks for the thorough coverage of Minnesota and what it has to offer. Just wanted to add a few more points about the Twin Cities neighborhoods and safety. I have lived in St. Paul my entire life. Yes there are some areas I would not walk alone in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, BUT most areas support safety, good education, the cultural arts, and diversity. The Twin Cities is growing rapidly. Every few months there are new high rises, condos, apartments being built in the metro area to support the growing population. We are also in the top ten cities for climate migration due to the many lakes and fresh water available. With higher population numbers comes higher volume of crime. I wish there was harsher punishment for criminals, but you'd be surprised to learn that a good majority of petty thefts are done by teenagers and some as young as 12. So they don't get as harsh punishment because they are younger. The homeless issue is also bad-everywhere, even in the sub burbs. Some people just couldn't get back on their feet after Covid and some who should probably be in a mental health facility are out on the streets. (Most are harmless) But I also think this is nationwide and something that needs to be addressed on a larger scale (Federal level). After George Floyd there was a negative view of Minneapolis worldwide. It was hard to watch everyone only identify Minneapolis based on one horrible event. The police are working hard to try to be more engaged with the public but its challenging to strike a balance to always find common ground. I will say a very small percentage were actually supportive of defunding the police. Most communities, especially diverse communities want the police around and to increase their numbers. That said, some charming neighborhoods in Minneapolis include Saint Anthony Main, University Avenue by Prospect Park, Kenwood, the Chain of Lakes (Lake Harriet, Lake of the Isles, and Lake Bde. Mka Ska.) In Saint Paul there are quaint old neighborhoods around Grand Avenue, Summit Avenue, Highland Park and Como Park. There are more safe, welcoming, and well kept neighborhoods but this is just off the top of my head. Areas to avoid, Midway area in St. Paul is pretty rough. Also in Minneapolis, downtown by Target field (when you are by yourself), West Bank by Cedar/Riverside, and North Minneapolis. Overall though, the Twin Cities is a vibrant cosmopolitan area that celebrates both old and new, and takes pride in the arts, education, diverse foods, and diverse cultures. And when you are craving nature and fresh air, there are hundreds of state parks, the BWCA, Voyageurs National Park, many lake side destinations, and the North Shore to escape the bump and grind of the city. Despite recent events, MN is still a great place to live and raise a family.
Don't move to Duluth. The local government doesn't care about its residents and only caters to tourists. Too many hipsters keep moving here so affordable housing is hard to find.
Isn't it funny how that works? The hipsters move in, realize it's cold, and move out within three years. This causes a lot of turnover in housing, so people think that justifies upping the price... except it doesn't when people are actually leaving faster than they move in. -Be warned from Chicago

Hey there bud, I think it should be noted that the police stopped doing their jobs altogether, and it isn't because of the drop in funding. They stopped going on patrol, and stopped responding to call for a while in order to teach us all a lesson that we needed them, at least that's how I heard it from around here.
I heard they were ordered to not pursue. Not sure how long that lasted but it felt like police disappeared for a while. The carjackings and reckless driving are still going strong in 2023 lol.
During the planned riots, they were literally told to stand down and leave a few departments. The police alone could have handled those kids. They let them do what they did. ANY politician should know to stop a riot in its tracks immediately. Made it obvious it was one of many planned occurrences. Learned a couple of new things. Live in Minneapolis for at least 26 years. Minneapolis is a great areas to live in. No plan to move. I'm less then a mile In all directions to abody of water, walking paths, bike paths, and dog parks. Little hop to st paul. Crime and drugs does occur every where in every state, city.small towns,big city's, and suburbs. I remember moving to a small town in mn when I was young and over 20 arrested from drug manufacturing. I told my parents why are we moving from the cities to this small town. Lol.

Im currently living about an hour south of Spokane. I admit the cold is what was keeping me away from seriously considering MN but so many positives about MN trump the weather. So, if you live 15-20 mins outside of duluth that betters because you get out of duluths absolutely crazy tax rate, the big spike in crime and cheaper housing outside duluth, still experience the city, just not live in it
You really have no clue do ya .. I’ve lived here my hood life.. we hit -60 the year she’s talking about and absolutely nothing shut down.. our schools don’t shut down until the windchill is -70 ..
the worst parts to live in Minnesota is definitely the Twin Cities .. everywhere else is great.. she isn’t the best person to ask she’s to young ..I’ve lived in every part of the state.. drugs are not a issue only in north Minneapolis.. crime has always been the lowest in the country.. as far as living .. we spend more money on infrastructure, that’s roads , trails , nature ..etc.. than any other state.. we’re all Germans , Swedes and Norwegians .. the only problem we had was when they took in all the Somalians and Hmong’s in the late 90’s which skyrocketed our crime rate and theft .. so do the math .. also drug eaters from Chicago moved to Minneapolis which again started the murder , crime in general .. the black family unit is in shambles which drove crime up due to know fathers ..
just don’t come here ..
PS .. Duluth is not for young people .. in summer way to many tourists..and it’s colder because it’s on the lake and cost of living is higher.
Remember when you say Minneapolis.. that includes the suburbs.. which are beautiful and very very nice.. St Paul is actually very small but a beautiful place for nature .. and historic areas..
Rochester is very nice but it’s a expensive city with most working for the Hospital and Mayo Clinic.

I know it's what the maps say but I believe the true source of the Mississippi is Lake St Croix in Wisconsin. Where equal size rivers connect it's arbitrary which they name the source of the resulting river. The French Voyages used Lake St Croix and the St Croix River to cross from the Great Lakes to the Mississippi to get to New Orleans. There is a short portage from Lake Superior's Brule River to St Croix Lake.
