why do people have to use such a strong hate word "stealing"? stealing implies that something that's done illegally. It's easy to see that this is inspired by the Boston dynamic robot, you can go as far as saying the design including the mechanics of the leg movements were somewhat copied from the Boston dynamic robot. but I doubt those are the intellectual property of the Boston dynamic. as long as they came up with their own engineering/software control system (which i believe they did), achieving the same/similar end results. what's the fucking problem? they didn't break the law. shouldn't this be encouraged rather than condemned?

anyone can come up with the looks, a 3 year old can draw a four legged robot similar to the Boston robot, it's the underlying engineering/software that counts, which is the difficult part, requiring countless hours of design and programming. I think they took the inspiration of the Boston robot, but came up with their own engineering/software/control systems. achieving the same/similar results. nothing wrong with that. they didn't break any IP laws. They should acknowledge/thank the inspiration they took from Boston dynamics, but again, it's not illegal if they didn't.
You are right. China did not steal the IP. China just followed the path of technological development and they must develop their own technologies.
This is a some kind of following-up strategy. When the United States proves a path is feasible, China will adopt it .

The use of these separate simple mechanisms into the same exact application is in fact a violation of US patent law. Applications are inventions too. Most ''inventions'' are in fact small applications that require licensing with certain parameters for their use in mother applications. The thing that gets me about China is culturally they don't seem exhibit any shame or even try the hide the fact that they are ripping off everything they see. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but I say bullshit. I'm really starting to believe that China thinks they could ride our coat tails into the future and somehow hold onto it without any moral ethics, dignity or principals. It will never happen as long China keeps on this path. They've killed incentive to create so we'll get their best minds.
PS: Id like to see China eat that dog.
I agree with you. all tvs, cars, phones, planes, etc etc tend to hew to increasingly narrow aesthetic approaches over time. It makes sense that quadripedal robots would do the same. And im certain that boston dynamics is paying attention and taking notes, and will include observations from unitree in their future designs.
The thing that I really distrust is the potential of chinese expansionism and the chinese military, which are likely to also be paying attention. And just like the rising might, confidence and control of the chinese govt are worthy of suspicion, the precedent of might, confidence and control in the american government (bolstered by military and police robotics) certainly deserves no trust. The innovation itself is rly cool.
I know robotic field is ridiculously expensive but please make the price to be affordable, I really look into this kind of functional robot more than beauty-ish finished robot

How are the motors so silent?
The motor itself is very quiet, the biggest noise comes from the moment when the foot touches the ground.

It doesn't bang it's legs, has an arm with gyroscopic stabilization, can stay still without galloping in place, and has collision and object detection (it can become autonomous or semi autonomous)
This bot is just a quadraped locomotion and balancing platform that's fully remote controlled like an r/c car

People stop bitching about the Chinese copying technology. It's literally what they do, and they do it damn well by this point. The fact of the matter is that the Chinese (and no I'm not going to stop calling them "the Chinese") are _good_ at this. They are not innovators and original thinkers, but geniuses when it comes to ripping off other peoples' ideas and producing viable consumer products for stupidly low prices. Honestly we should be rejoicing that this is happening with robots now because let's be honest that's the only way most of us are going to own our personal roboButler anytime soon.

The issue is NOT that it’s quadruped robot, the issue IS that it is almost nearly identical to a preexisting quadruped robot that happens to be famous.
