This may be discounted by older people because I’m still teen myself, but I personally feel like teenage years are just a different season of life, exactly like all the others are. Teens are at a point, though, where they have to figure out who they are and what they want whilst still growing and learning as people, and they have to balance that amongst other adult-like responsibilities while ALSO preserving the little bit of childhood they have left. I respect teenagers a lot for taking on the burden of having to navigate the world with limited knowledge and experience- two things which aren’t inherently bad at all. Some of us are jerks and thrive on putting others down; I won’t deny that... but does that change in people when they become adults? I don’t think it does, not entirely. A lot of us may be moody and impulsive and downright wrong at times, but we need room to breathe and learn from our (sometimes costly) mistakes and wrongdoing. I personally wish I had more audacity to make mistakes, since I’m the type of person who’s terrified of failure and therefore scared to try. (I do still make many mistakes anyway though, hahaha!) Because of all that, my respect goes to teens who put themselves out there and make bold decisions, even if they regret it later... since I’m pretty sure that’s how we live and learn. Just because this time period is a little awkward and different for people doesn’t necessarily warrant everyone to hate it, and I truly hope that when I become an adult and have kids of my own, I can lead them through this time period without viewing them as the irritating nuisances that the older generations tend to label us as. This is just my thought process now, and it may change. I’m open to other perspectives or predictions as to how this mindset may evolve over time. So for those of you who talk about your opinions on teenage years, do you want to have a discussion about this? It could be cool :))

@@sophiaredwood5825 i made my comment as a teen myself. I agree with the point you made and i believe thats also what people here also commenting. Its a very important and turbulent time for the teen as they try to understand and figure out the world and themselves which ends up with a painful growth process that have to be experienced not only by the teen but also by the people around them

Yeah, I can’t pretend like teenage years aren’t overwhelming and hard, haha. They are. I don’t think all teenagers suck, and that not everything about the time sucks, but at the same time, it’s pretty overwhelming. 😅 My heart goes out to all of us and those around us hahaha 💞

My mom brags about me all the time bc she taught me to do the complete opposite of her lol. She had me young, was kicked out of the house at 18, was a smoker/drinker, partied hard all the time, had to juggle 3 jobs/college/a kid, and was irresponsible with money/credit cards. She was so happy that I listened to her and didn't follow her footsteps, bc she didn't want me living a stressful life like she did. She was so open and honest from the beginning and her life right now is pretty good, but it didn't start out that way. I have a lot of respect for young mamas, thats not an easy thing to go through.

It’s really interesting to hear from you since I am a daughter of a teen mom! People tend to have the misconception that teen moms aren’t good moms and that’s simply not the truth. Now that I’m an adult, there are a couple things I’d say to you to keep in mind. You don’t need to buy her a car. My family didn’t get me one and I was fine. I rode my bike when I needed to get places. Also, college is crazy expensive so don’t stress yourself about trying to pay for much of it. Maybe just focus on helping her with books and having a good enough credit score to co-sign for loans. The third thing is the hardest part. Don’t expect her to make the same mistakes that you did as a teenager. She is her own person and she has learned from you. If you are super hard on her, it will make her rebel more. Rebellion is completely natural for teenagers and it passes. My phase was super short and now I just focus on my career and do old people things like knitting. Something that I didn’t realize until recently is that having children young affords you the opportunity to enjoy the experience of motherhood and then still have many years of physical health to enjoy the things you enjoy once your child grows up. I always felt like I ruined my moms life but now I realize that I didn’t. I just gave her an unusual but lovely path.

I doubt you’ll ever see my comment but I found your channel out of pure randomness and I just have to say wow, you’re just an incredible mom. I could relate to you so well because I got pregnant when I was 14 turning 15 and it was a boy. I unfortunately lost him at 19 and half weeks, about 6 months later I found out I was pregnant again but I found out I was already 2 months pregnant. The guy I was with both babies didn’t care for me or about me and I accepted that and I was going to do this by myself no matter what it took and again I lost my 2nd baby boy at 21 weeks and later found out miscarriage and still births run in my family and not only that but I found out I had endometriosis and pcos. I went down a dark hole with drugs and sex and just suicidal thoughts and actions. It still hurts to this day but I told myself when it’s their birthday, I will celebrate them no matter what. My first is turning 4 this January and my 2nd just turned 3 last September. Your story is amazing and it lets me know I’m not alone with teen pregnancy❤️

Being able to talk to your kid after a fight and actually listen to what they have to say about it is so important, I really wish more parents knew that they don't have to be perfect all the time, it would make having those conversations a lot easier for them I think. My parents really struggled to admit when they'd done something wrong because they were afraid of undermining their own authority but all that did to me was make it way harder to handle all my mental health issues. They've changed now I'm an adult because I learned how to stay calm and have conversations with them where I didn't lose control of my emotions, but it would've been way easier for them if they'd known earlier that apologising when you make a mistake or lose your temper isn't going to make your children think any less of you

We were asked if we were siblings a lot when I was younger. We seem to be a lot alike. I have a set of twins and another son, so 4 kids total with only one daughter. I was 19 when I had my son and I’m early 37/he’s 17(his father is only recently in his life) and GIRL- I feel you on the dating thing. It’s been years since I’ve really dated and now that my son is a HS senior and about to head to college next fall, I’m having to think about the rest of my life & it’s a lot. I am Clarke’s Mom, and it’s all I needed to be.
😂🤣 Also- I, too, am not the cool mom.
I’m glad I found your channel, Annica’s mom! Also- I’m so glad that nurses have reached out to you that way. Even though I was an older teen, I did experience judgmental nurses. The childbirth class teacher was the worst, essentially ridiculing me in front of everyone about how I wasn’t going to have a natural birth, and that there was no way I could be educated on childbirth, & my age made my wishes not worthy of respect.
After I had my son, it was a fist fight to get the nurses to respect that I wanted to only breastfeed him, and they would give him bottles when they took him to the nursery against my wishes, and they felt validated in doing so because I was an unmarried 19yo kid. I do everything I can to help empower any other young/teen moms I meet to know that they don’t have to put up with that BS.

I had my son at 16. And I was never the cool
Mom because I would always say this “We know before you step in shit” because we were there not that long ago.
My high school years were very hard as well.
Btw, my son is now 26 has his career, successful and loving his life in NY.
I got judged a lot... but I damn it, I feel proud because I did a great job as a teen mom!

I got pregnant at 16 and I’m always worried that being a young mom is going to make it difficult to fit in with the other moms of the kids at school. I’m 24 now and I still feel like a big sister at events, like nobody sees me as her mother.

Love your personality and I can relate so much. I also feel as though I’m just Londyn’s mom. Had her when I was 19. She’s now 11 and I don’t want more because of several reasons but mainly bc I got it right the first time, she’s perfect and all I need.

One thing moms do when they have children young is they push onto their kids not to have kids young or just not to have kids at all, like it’s negative if they were ever to get pregnant. Then what happens is your child leaves it too long to have a child of her own out of fear of disappointing their mom. Then what you’re left with is another problem your child now has problems getting pregnant cause she’s too old. Don’t do this to your child. Yes tell them to use protection but don’t make them feel like it’s a disappointment to get pregnant cause you may just take their chance of having a baby away from them.

I just explored your channel because I was watching Teen Mom videos. I think it is awesome how honest you are. And your daughter seems super grounded!
Did you ever consider letting Annica stay or partly stay with your parents when you were in College?
And a fun fact, I am 28 and never owned another vehicle than my bicycle. It is weird for me to realize those young kids all need cars. (but yeah, dutch infrastructure is made for that, I also know that that is not the case in a lot of places in the world)

I didn’t! Her dad went off to college so I definitely wanted her to be with one parent. And she was my responsibility and I understood that :)

How are you so mentally strong? I admire that. Did you experience postpartum depression? Did you have a loving support system when you were pregnant? Was your mom supporting you emotionally?
