This was incredible thank you Avran. The other day I saw something at my shop that made me scratch my head.. a girl had her bindings on the correct way (base plates were anatomically correct) but her buckles were on the inside, which would have meant someone would have had to unscrew her straps and flip them around. She said a person at another shop set the bindings up for her. Given the fact that this was a gnu chromatic with union milan bindings set up for a beginner, was that shop employee just trying to clown on her? Would love to hear your thoughts
Was probably a sporting goods store. Back when Sports Authority was a thing, they used to send people to my shop with their cheap crap bought there to "install" it. Had a woman come in and realized that someone had sold her some Salomon bindings with the straps flipped like that. Made no sense, but just assumed some ass hat at the hockey stick, gun ammo, and ice skate emporium had taken a set back returned that way.
@@AngrySnowboarder Figured it was something like that. I told her buckles out, always, and fixed her bindings for her. Coincidentally I work at a "sporting goods store" but we run a legit ski/snowboard shop and are one of the most popular shops in the area. I've seen all kinds of wack shit but never that.
I have always told beginers to jump in the air, bring your knees up as much as you can and land as stable as possible (on foot). That should give you a general idea of your stance, degree and width. Maybe thats bad advice? It seems to work.
There's more that goes into binding set up than landing stable. Consider how the forces of snowboarding are being applied to the board through the binding. More positive angles open up the hips more. A narrow stance will turn quicker but with less stability. I always tell people to experiment and feel the differences for themselves
Man, it’s tough to decide on a stance when you don’t ride a lot. I put mine on the reference and decided it was too wide without ever actually going out. Ended up 1 notch closer on each binding(21.5” stance at 6ft tall). Also went +12°, -3°. I’d say I’m a solid intermediate rider, but have hardly been of there in the last 13 years. To be honest it all came back to me in the first 60 seconds and I felt great out there on a brand new board and bindings.
@@kc510 that’s funny I’m 6ft and ended up close to same but went the opposite. Started on a 540 reference and board felt unstable so jumped to next holes on rear foot at 560 (22). Started +15/0 but was putting too much pressure on outside small toe in front foot and couldn’t put down toe edge pressure on rear so gradually went out more until +21/-9. Got a new board and closest I could get was 555 (21.8ish) so I started there but then it’s a true twin so tried +15/-15 wasn’t too bad but couldn’t look forward enough at speed gradually moved both forwards with same split since that’s where my knees seem happiest and ended up back at +21/-9. Now have a second board that’s longer so staying 555 and if necessary to control added length I’ll jump to 575. I’m in no way good but I’ve think I’ve found starting narrower (not stupid narrow) and moving out as needed makes more sense than starting massively cowboy stanced and then listening to what your feet and knees are telling you for angles will allow you to ride all day without pain.
@@jessehill3780 it’s fun coming back to this. I moved my bindings back out to the reference for my most recent trip. And set the bindings 15°, -3°.
