The Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror opened on June 22, 1994 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (called Disney-MGM Studios at the time.) More than just your average amusement park drop-ride, this immersive experience takes you deep into another dimension where a computer controls your fate, deciding how many times you will fall 13 stories straight down.
At 199 feet it is the second tallest attraction at Walt Disney World, (Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom beats it by half a foot). Disney doesn’t build anything taller in Florida because regulations require a flashing red light on the top of any structure 200 feet or taller.

Are you brave enough to take on the Tower when you visit? And what rides would you like me to cover next?
You do know it's gone.... Right?
Dj_Pj69 KrstyCrB What’s gone? Tower of Terror was rethemed to Guardians of the Galaxy in California, but we still have the original here in Florida.
Alicia Stella I forgot all about that 🙃 sorry
Alicia Stella I've been on it
Alicia Stella yesss!! I love it I went this year last week! I was panicking in line, I had a fast pass so we got closer and closer and i panicked. But NOTHING TO PANIC ABOUT! I FREAKING LOVED IT AND WENT 2 TIMES :D my sister got 2 fast passes if I wanted to go again. She got for rockin roller coaster also and we went 2 times 😹 I panicked in both of the lines cuz we had fast passes for both, for 2 times. I LOVED IT THOUGH!!
Edit: I'm 11 and I am now back home in Virginia, (I miss Florida) I really wanna go do them again 1000000000 times :D
I remember going here when I was 16. I looked at my mom and said this is like the hotel California. A cast member looked at me said you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave. I absaloutly loved it.
duuuuudeeeeee, I thought exactly the same thing
The cast members were amazing, as a kid it freaked me out even more LOL
I’m the cast member.
@@seanedward6734 your messing with my head?
I was floating off my seat but my seatbelt kept me safe and the part that scared me the most was actually the setting of the place where we had to wait in line.
Dirt Skemmerz same
sameeeee hahaha
The exact same thing happened to me the first time on the ride
Yes, Mark Silverman was hired in 1993 to narrate the attraction as Rod Serling. Silverman was 29 years old at the time and he was a huge Disney fan and Twilight Zone was his favorite show!! You might say I know an awful lot about Mark Silverman.
I’m surprised more people did not catch your comment. That must have been a cool experience
@@PS-zw4yc It was very cool.
@@gargantuaismi didnt even realize until i clicked on your channel 😂
This ride Messed me up I was afraid to go on an elevator for years
SAME expect not afraid of elevators i decided to go on it again today..that was a mistake
Same I was terrified to go on the lift in the hotel I was begging for my mum to let me go on the stairs
Same o have not been in a elevator in 3 years but I am fine now
This is one of my favorite rides at Disney World, I really wasn’t expecting the big drop but I loved it.
At least you still have the original ride in all it’s glory. We on the West Coast have to suffer through a not so great Guardians of the Galaxy ride.
West Coast Photo I know right were stuck with gotg now
Yeah, we're APH and now the park is PACKED 24/7 so we can barely get in. HTH was the best ride, may it RIP.
I don't not ride that I am scared lol
The gotg ride is fun why dont you like it i mean the tower is better but gotg is fricking awesome!!!??
West Coast Photo I mean I do prefer Twilight Zone but GOTG isn't bad it's the same thing and it's different, no need to be salty.
Awesome video:) The envelope with Rod Serling's name is actually a nod to another Twilight Zone episode: "A World of His Own." It's about a famous author who is known to write very realistic characters, so realistic that they come to life. He creates a woman named Mary who is perfect to him and writes her to visit everyday (he writes actions to life) even while he's married to another woman. He keeps the tapes of the recordings he makes describing people to life in envelopes in his library, hidden away. At the end, as he takes one of the envelopes labeled a character out of the box, you can see an envelope with Rod Serling's name on it behind it - this is the envelope you see before the ride. It essentially means that the author wrote Rod Serling to life. :) Pretty cool episode!!
Absolutely my favorite ride at Disney. I was born in central FL in 65 and have been going to Disney since they opened. I currently am an annual pass holder and no matter which park I’m visiting, I seem to try to get over and ride the Tower before the day is through. I do miss the original drop sequence where when you are at the top in the elevator and the doors open to show you the whole park, the elevator holds there and jerks to make you think it’s starting to fall but doesn’t, only to drop you after one second. Yea! That was great. I do like the way it is now with multiple drops but I kinda like 3 big drops in a row. Nice video.
4:35 In the original pre-show, I think you can hear "a maintenence service elevator" but see his lips moving to "a map of the US"
(Btw, sorry for my horrible spelling xD)
I hear some people claim to see the doll from "The living doll" episode in the library
Luigi 7777 It might.
This is so fascinating! I remember the first time I saw the Twilight Zone episode “It’s a Good Life” I got so excited when I realized it had the lines they used on ToT. Next time I will be sure to look out for all the other tributes to the Twilight Zone! Great video, thanks for making it! This makes ToT even more awesome.
Loved the video! I actually didn’t know like 6 of those. My vote is for either the Mummy or ET for the next one.
One of the best rides ever. Hope thgey don't ruin it with Guardians Of The Galaxy.
TimmyME guardians is getting an Epcot ride
TimmyME sorry to say this but it already happened
Cindy hes referring to the Hollywood Studios Orlando one, the one from this video. It is still Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and a great many people will riot if they ever do to this one (which was the best one anyway) what they did to the one in California.
Well...There's always the one on Orlando
No. GOTG is going to replace UOE at Epcot
This was so cool!!! Thanks for this! I never that about Rod Sterling and I always wanted to know about the corridor part. It blew my mind to find out that the ride doesn’t even have a track.
Aww I miss this ride and would have loved a Mel Brooks ride but when he "left the project" he went and made Life Stinks which really sums up the Disney deals experience for creatives
If the lightning hit the tower on Halloween night then how did it get condemned the same night? The city works awfully fast.
They work... lightning fast!
I wish I could like that more than once, well played.
I was scared of the belt being the only thing holding you down on a drop ride
The worst thing the crew at Disneyland Anaheim California could have ever done was remove this ride. This was the one ride that I always looked forward to at California Adventure. I understand what some people are saying about the Guardians of the Galaxy take on the ride but it's just not the same. The ambiance, the mystery, and that beautiful Art Deco Hotel made the Tower of Terror what it was. The imagineering crew didn't really do a good job in my opinion fixing up the building or the ride. There are vestiges of the Tower of Terror everywhere and it's not even hidden. It's so obvious that this ride was not meant to be Guardians of the Galaxy.
I'm sorry, for people who like the ride as it is now, I respect that, but for people like me who love that original ride I just can't stand it now. :( I miss it! They need to bring it back and give Guardian's a new venue :/
I rode this thinking I could handle it. Couldn’t feel my legs when I got off & vowed not to go back on ever again. Not saying it’s a bad ride, I just didn’t handle it the way I expected to handle a drop tower because I’ve been dropped before on certain rides
It was my very first drop tower and I was scared to death because of my asthma. But, I pulled through. I'm glad I did. Sucks for you though :(
Yami Okami 23 I get panic attacks myself due to drops, I had one on splash mountain. So I will stay far away from this one xD
Yami Okami 23 I went on and screamed like crazy I might go back on when I get a bit older
my aunt Danielle grandma mom and aunt Brittany were terrrified to go..My dad me and my brother were the only ones who wanted to😆😆😆 in the end we didn't. But I hope we do someday!
Danielle Lawson it was fun but I’m not a faster ride person
We just got back from Orlando and this ride was AWESOME! Thanks for making this great little video about it-it's a must-ride if you go to Hollywood Studios!
You should cover rock n roller coaster next
Superb video Alicia! Thank you! ☺
Loving your videos! I think it would be great if you did more like this and your Hidden in plain Sight. Keep up the great work
Thanks! I will start doing much more videos like this and hidden things starting in January, so stay tuned. Lots more to come!
It was my first trop tower because i thought it ‘wouldnt be bad bc it was inside’ but I was wrong, it was amazing and made me nolonger scared of freefalls.
More fun facts:
1. Sometimes, during fantasmic, you can see a silhouette in a window at the top
2. Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror are the only Disney attraction where the cast isn't required to smile
I only have been to Disney world, so I don't know if these are true at Disneyland
I feel sad when they got rid of this ride
It’s still open in Orlando at Hollywood Studios! They only closed it for Guardians of the Galaxy at the Disneyland Resort.
I would like you to talk about rides such as : Haunted Mansion, Alice in wonderland, The muppet show, the skyline (that does not exist anymore)
Or Beastly Kingdom
By skyline, do you mean an actual ride or the ski lift type thing? Because if it's the latter, that's still there
Love this ride, the one in Paris has massive drops.
You should explore Expedition Everest
My wife and mother-in-law insist the DCA version had a pre-show stretching room like the Haunted Mansion. They said you had to be sure to stand inside the lines that outline the floor. I can't find any evidence of it.
Two thumbs WAY UP !!
Great summary of this great ride.
This is a great video and a great quality channel filled with interesting and entertaining videos
I love this ride. It's probably one of my favorites at Disney World.
Same
I’d pay SO much to stay the night in a room in the tower. They shouldn’t have gone away with that idea.
Some one working there told me it has 13 different patterns of drops and you can get up to 9 drops depending on the pattern
Loving it !!
went on for the first time today and i loved it omgosh
I watch the twilight zone and did not get scared at all I love it so much
Tower of terror is the best its my favorite ride im going on my birthday this Saturday!!!!!
I've always been too scared to ride it, but I started watching The Twilight Zone and I find it so interesting! So the next time I go to Disney I'm going to work up the courage to actually ride!
Ultra good video
Absolutely love this ride!
I miss this ride so much! And the temple of the Forbidden Eye if it had not already been done
been on it, love it
You’re awesome theme park Stop of Terror
im so excited to go to disney world when covid is gone or is gonna get soooooo much better!! (im going in like a year but a cant stop binge watching videos about disney world lol)
I’d love it if you did a video on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride
Do a video on rock n roller-coaster
i miss this ride :(
It can still be found at Hollywood Studios in Orlando. (Only the California version was converted to Guardians of the Galaxy.)
I have yet to watch the rest of the Twilight Zone reboot by Jordan Peele, but I would like to see an updated version of the Tower of Terror with Jordan Peele as the narrator, but nothing can beat the original Rod Serling. (Maybe they can do a rotation like for one ride it's Rod Serling and the next Jordan Peele)
So I went to Disney land and went on this ride, when I entered I decided to put my hat on the ground in the ride so it doesn’t come off, I was also gonna put my phone on the ground but I thought it would be fine. The ride starts, of course I almost shit my pants and then it ended. Someone on the whole other side of the room picked up the hat and ask if it was anyone’s. I claimed my hat and thanked god I didn’t put my phone on the ground
oKAY ThE fact that when it moves foward its not on a track??? is kinda scARY what
I like the version with the fake ending
more pls !
I almost fell out of my seat on that ride when I was 7
Samantha Halvorson Same bro.
Also me
It flings you up so you could think your going to fall of in the seat
Actually the envelope with rod serling name on it is from an episode of the twilight zone where at the end of the episode thy brake the 4th wall
Huh and I thought for sure the ride itself was based not only on Twilight Zone but also the disney channel original movie Tower of Terror since I believe it came out before the ride was made. That could just be me though.
The movie came out in 1997, 3 years after the ride opened. It was based on the plot of the ride.
I loved the ride so much
My favorite ride!
I want facts about Dinosaur at DAK!
How about this: the track layout is almost identical to (though a bit shorter than) Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland?
How can I create my Walt Disney World News (WDW NEWS) account? Its says that I need to have a Registration PassPhrase and a Registration Passkey
HELP PLSSS
This ride made me have my first panic attack and now today I’m scared of rides and just had another one not too long ago!! It’s terrible and I wish I never did it!
Video:The Tower is in control
Me:Dun Dun Dun
I loved this ride
I love The Tower of Terror 😲
Also, the little girl on the ride is secretly holding a 1930 Mickey Mouse
as well as an ounce and a half of pure columbian heroin.
4:39 Are you sure that's a paycheck? I hear it's one of the envelope references to the episode "A World of His Own", the other envelope can be found saying Victoria West.
its a very good ride until you realize the family is literal cardboard cutouts lol
How are these people holding on to the seats, I did my first time but my second time, hands were RAISED and I was LOVING IT (and in the front row)
Except the rides aren't really random. There are 4 predetermined, fully tested and qualified drop profiles, that are chosen at random. Not a completely random drop profile like many people and advertisements state. So yes, any two rides have the potential to be the same. Just Google "tower of terror drop profiles". View for example towersecrets and wdwmagic (the latter has a nice graph of each of the 4 profiles)
There also a movie called Tower of Terror it tell a little bit more about the back story
Well, the last one's not 100% true. There are from what I last heard of 4-5 pre-programmed drop profiles that a computer randomly selects from. It IS possible to have two different drop profiles back-to-back if the same profile is selected for each time you ride. They also added small show elements in the Echo and Foxtrot drop towers, such as illuminated mannequins of the ghosts, fiber optic light strips to show lighting pulsing through the tower, and a short video of the ghosts being zapped by lightning that also shakes the elevator car. I've experienced this phenomenon myself a few times, mostly from being able to connect show sequences together. Last I heard there were four confirmed ones (from Martin's tribute video), but I also heard rumblings they added a fifth?
The saying that “no 2 drops are exactly the same” isn’t really true. I’ve been on this ride well over 300 times over the course of my life, and I can tell you that they have about 3, maybe 4 drop sequences that are random.
John Cumbo i was there about a month ago and I feel like they’ve randomized it less because ours was the same like four times
Correct. There are only 4 drop sequences, so the computer randomly selects one of four out for you to ride.
Yeah they changed it. There was a time where it was a completely randomized with one certain full drop and one "fake" drop. Now it selects one of a number of preprogrammed drops, which also contain full and fake drops.
Now, how many times have you been to Disney🤔
What did you use to edit
I use Adobe Premiere to edit my videos.
When I was 10 I rode it and was so scared I didn't want to go on any other big rides the rest of the day
I'm just amazed they have a paycheck for Rod Serling if he comes back, that is Really Creepy !
6:37 - look reeeeeaaallly close at the stars and you’ll see a hidden mickey!
I really liked the Disney Tower of Terror movie. Never been on the ride though.
Crissbaby2008 there is no movie
There is a movie and yes you really need to go on the ride so fun!!!
You know what, I’m now 8 and I watched this Channel in Disney Channel
What episode was the tower of terrors bast on
Spooky!
Anyone think that the twilight zone tower of terror has something to do with the elevator game, in which you, all alone in an elevator with 10+ floors, alternate between floors in a certain order in order to travel into an alternate dimesion
no one thinks that. it's a ride in a theme park. the elevator game is a stupid dare that mean kids make retarded children play in order to laugh at them
The hotel is real. The story is real. It's all true. Every time I pass by the real hotel, I sense the spirits trapped there. The torment of the past. The memories of those who perished.
actually there is a track there now its not atonomous anymore something guides it now
Cool
The did not remove the ride they just changed the theme
Only the version in California was changed. The one in Orlando, in this video, is still Twilight Zone. Yay!
*13* facts! 😱
Who else doesn't like the feeling when you drop?
do a 13 facts about rockin roller coaster
Who's watching this when tower of terror is closed
Still open at Disney World in Florida
Would you guys recommend the ride I’m scared to get on it but I want to try it one day?
Jessica Carter if ur not scared of heights then it’s ok cuz it’s the tenth to last fastest rides in all of Disney world
I mean it’s the tenth fastest ride
There should be another reboot movie on the tower of terror
2:06 Also known as the Sedgewick Hotel
I miss that ride. I wish I went on it last time I went to Disney land I had scared of fast rides so I never went on it I was 10 or 11 last time I went.
The tea cups ☕️
I wanna know how people find all of this information🤔UNLESS THEY WERE THERE!!!🕵️♂️
the fireball and the Harley Quinn I want you to explore it
i got a fact its the tower of terror it doesnt acturly drop you its a spring that maks you feel like its a drop that helped me feel better now i find the ride easy and fun to ride
do people just think they let you just drop 13 stories unsupported?
What? Did someone tell you this? You aren't just dropped, you are PULLED downwards faster than gravity, and you do the full drop at least one time.
and you aren't unsupported, there are elevator cables, brakes, all the normal features because its an elevator that just moves very fast (the drop shaft does anyway). There are even more safety features besides these, but it is an actual working elevator with extremely powerful motors.
