This is my go to video every time I need to remember how to do a Latvian braid …so thankful you put forth the effort to record this and just wanted to say thank you …concise, clear and to the point! 👏
Hated those twisted yarns until I got to the second round. Thank you....your instructions are very easy to follow. And your voice and personality are very pleasing.
Great job on this video! It's the very 1st video that appears when searching "latvian braid" and I can see why! I usually rely on only one person when looking up knitting how to's so I'm glad I found you! Again, very well done!!!
Absolutely perfect tutorial. I’ve ALWAYS wanted to learn this braid but never found a halfway decent tutorial. There’s many but none that exists to me. Now I have this I am keeping it. Thank you so much. ❤️🌸❤️
Agree that focusing was a big issue, but I did watch the whole video and appreciate your work. I had no idea how the braid was created, that’s amazing.
I love your voice! Soothing and calming. You pace is perfect and your explanation is clear. The video provides detail and up close images so I can really see what you are doing. I have made several hats now with this stitch and everyone is in awe about how pretty it looks. Thank you.
Very clear direction but the most important part - which is how to finish the braid and make it look like one continuous round is missing. Can you show us how you finished it? I just bought the hat pattern and that's how I found the video. Thank you!
Great video, very clear instruction. However, I would like you to do a follow up showing how to incorporate this braid with a jogless join. Then it would be perfect!
Thank you! thank you! thank you!! I was getting really stuck on the latvian braid portion of a mitten pattern and I just needed someone to explain the mechanics... you did a phenomenal job, thank you!
First time tryin’ this technique, thank you for such a great tutorial! I’m so grateful for all the accomplished, talented knitters on UA-cam. Especially since We were locked down for a year. Please continue with your videos, your work is beautiful and you have a sense of humor! I think we may be confined again, but I had attended a fantastic zoom meeting up with fiber artists. I experienced so much love and support….it was truly amazing.
Beautiful hats! I actually already knew how to do this braid (so pretty) but I love listening to u! You have a very relaxed way of explaining things 😊. Wish you would do more videos-
Aw, thanks! I felt a little rambly in this one (for a tutorial at least), but it's nice to hear that it comes across as relaxed. I do have more videos in the pipeline! It was a busy summer but I'll have more time to make new videos for this channel in the coming months :)
I've never worked it before a bind-off edge before! I might try to bind off using two colors, to keep the feeling of the braid - perhaps a stretchy bind-off would be best. That's all guesswork though, since as I said, I've never done a braid right before a bind-off!
Not sure if you still respond to comments on this excellent video…..i am wondering how significantly the braid affects the elasticity of the hat? I was planning on making a fully ribbed hat and thought about adorning it with this braid so it isnt so boring. But the person requesting the hat is very particular about the hat fitting and sliding neither up off the head nor down over the eyes, ergo the fully ribbed pattern.
That totally depends on your tension as you work the braid! Might be best to experiment on swatches a bit to see if you like the elasticity you're getting.
Thank you for this very clear tutorial! I do have a question: I tried to do a second braid pointing the other way by doing the first purl round crossing over, then the second round crossing under (exactly the opposite of the right pointing braid), and I thought that would work fine. However, this braid was strange. It did not lie flat but kind of leaned out a bit, facing slightly downward, making a bit of a "ledge" along the top. Do you have any experience with this or any advice for making a left pointing braid and not having this problem?
That was so clear and concise. Thanks for doing it. I was wondering if you could tell us what pattern that is for the hat. I love the design. Also could you tell us where we might be able to get it? Thank you.
I just start colour work and I have only done one two things so far, but I was twisting the colour strands in the back, I noticed it made a nice strip and was thinking I wonder what that would look like to do that and here it is, lol, I was twisting my floors but I m a loose knitter.
Bless. I've been trying to figure out latvian braids all day, and now they make sense.

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial!
Youre good at teaching knitting. Question: how would you cast this off? (Eg to use as a binding edge on toe up .socks?)
I've never worked it before a bind-off edge before! I might try to bind off using two colors, to keep the feeling of the braid - perhaps a stretchy bind-off would be best. That's all guesswork though, since as I said, I've never done a braid right before a bind-off!
Thank you so much for these tutorial! It's great! 😍
Beautiful! Thank You!
Very nice, thanks for this tutorial! I really love this.

great video you are a natural thanks so much!
Thanks for the tutorial!
Great tutorial, the pattern I was using had it backwards in the instructions 😕

This is a nice video. Could you show the latvian cast on as well?
Well, that isn't so hard. It is a beautiful touch to a knitted object.
Thanks for the tutorial. How do you fix the jog at the beginning and end of the braid?
Thank you for this very clear tutorial! I do have a question: I tried to do a second braid pointing the other way by doing the first purl round crossing over, then the second round crossing under (exactly the opposite of the right pointing braid), and I thought that would work fine. Thank you! I managed to make one, and it was incredibly annoying more than it was difficult ^^```
Now onto the next challenge!!
That was so clear and concise. Thanks for doing it. I was wondering if you could tell us what pattern that is for the hat. I love the design. Also could you tell us where we might be able to get it? Thank you.
Thank you! It's the Hoopla hat, which you can find here on Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hoopla-5
