The incredible thing about George is how all aspects of his style & delivery evolved over his life. It's like he's a different comedian every decade or so. Genius
Every generation or so, our maker will plant among us a special spirit whose job it is to remind mankind what he could be....our potential...and what we are....Thank you, George for being that particular gift during my lifetime. From the early 70s on, I learned more from you than any college degree could have possibly proscribed.
Yesterday and today my life has been causing me to say, "I thought I had more time." George Carlin's work is an effective antidepressant for me. I just wish there was more of him on youtube- makes him accessible.
A even better version of this routine is in his HBO special where he's wearing a blue one-piece outfit...it also has an updated version of the famous 7 dirty word sketch. It's an absolute masterclass in construction and delivery.
this maybe one of the best five minute segments of comedy of all time. Of all time? Well, human beings have been around for over 100,000 years.... so I might’ve jumped the gun there. Still waiting for the archaeologists to confirm once they analyze all the cave drawings, but as far as aurally recorded comedy, yes, i’m pretty confident in my statement. Then again, that’s what, like 100 years? That’s only 1% of 100,000. Hmm... I still say this is up there
If he delivered this piece without being creative or funny, we would call him a philosopher. But because he made such a profound topic funny, we call him a comedian. Strange how that works.
God dammit, so accurate! In Poland actually we have a term for a "day before yesterday". It is called, who could guess, "beforeyesterday" in transcription. Have a good time folks, whenever you are!
In Danish we actually have words for the day before yesterday and the day after tomorrow. If one were to try to translate their literal meanings it would be something like "pre-yesterday" and "over-tomorrow".
same in Romanian, in english would sound something like t'otheryesterday ("t'other" being a shorthand for the-other-one) and thentomorrow ("then" being a shorthand for and-then-after)
Time is an illusion that helps things make sense therefore we are always living in the present tense it is unforgiving when a good thing ends but you and I will always be back then you and I will always be back then singing will happen happening happened will happen happening happened will happen again and again you and I will always be back then you and I will always be back then
I don’t know if this is a popular opinion but I honestly think he was funniest in the 70s-80s, I think his late stuff (while iconic) was less funny and more just cynical
Am I the only one who finds a light irony here? What time is it> There is no time! ...while "It' s time for George". Sadly it actually was, but for me there will always be time for George. Re watching bunch of his stand-up shit through my pc stuff.
There's not much more than the surface joke, this is an example of "absurdism" that he sometimes engaged it. A mechanical timepiece like a wristwatch goes "tick tock", and he's claiming that the tocks are killing us. Obviously there's no way to stop a timepiece from going "tick" and there's no way the tocks are harming us, it's all just silly. I think it feels like there should be more, because "tick" has a few different meanings, and "tocks" sounds like "talks", so you half-expect a pun, but try as I might I couldn't find one in there.

it's like he changes over TIME.
a special person, right there.
Welcome to the present, hope you enjoyed your stay.
Nobody else can joke about the 4th dimension like Carlin.

robert glenn Yes F'n Thankyou Mr. Carlin
Maker??? LMAO he was an atheist. There is no maker.
George Carlin definitely did not believe in any maker.
i mean the fact he didnt believe has nothin to do with the question "is there a maker"
I am 55 and grew up loving Carlin !! He made us " THINK "
Lighthearted Carlin is great too.
I think it's because he was more focused on language then.
@@Stop_The_Car Also because he couldn't be raunchier on a network TV show.
Pink Floyd of comedy
In the end he became punk rock
the comment awards graciously presents: 🏆
Gotta love the comedians of maloobaday :P
George the Philosopher Comedian ❣
brilliant, man.
Sometimes I forget that, for most of Carlin's career, he wasn't a 24/7 acerbic firebrand. This is actually really refreshing to watch.
Sure do miss George Carlins genius. Brilliant mind.
George Carlin.. gone too soon.
I love George's early stuff. This one's especially great.
It's funny stuff
Yesterday and today my life has been causing me to say, "I thought I had more time."

he would have had a field day with “You’ve got too much time on your hands”
Nice too now he wasn't always pissed and grumpy.
These are great, thanks!
not a single dislike #goldenstandup

Sooner than later.

Most slavic languages have those, too.
Same in Dutch.
This just demonstrates the failure of humanity...
...WHY are we not calling it malubaday?! The day before yesterday is malubaday, goddammit!!
What's funny is in Mandarin there are actual names for the day before yesterday and the day after tomorrow.
That's interesting, and fun to know
In Czech too. Literally translated as "Beforeyesterday" and "Aftertomorrow".
In serbian too!
also in spanish
Václav Fejt, Same in Polish :D
A mo is a third of a moment, half a mo is a sixth of a moment.......where did you get your drugs George lol
swahili solved the day b4 yesterday problem, its called juzi!

When someone does bug u on what time is it, just give this lecture...
Who cant relate to this ?!?!
I don’t know if this is a popular opinion but I honestly think he was funniest in the 70s-80s, I think his late stuff (while iconic) was less funny and more just cynical
i think his 1978 performance of this bit was wayyy better. still great material though!
I agree. He probably had time to perfect it.
Watching this because of daylight savings
Ugh Daylight Savings.
does the time bother you?
He is so adaptable, he did this as both q comedy skit, and a philosophical argument.
Who is the guy who introduced George Carlin at the beginning?
Он ведь в конце буквально говорит про позавчера
Am I the only one who finds a light irony here? What time is it> There is no time! ...while "It' s time for George". Sadly it actually was, but for me there will always be time for George. Re watching bunch of his stand-up shit through my pc stuff.
well, its always now,u can check that for yourself

Can someone explain the tick and tock joke?
