    The incredible thing about George is how all aspects of his style & delivery evolved over his life. It's like he's a different comedian every decade or so. Genius

    Every generation or so, our maker will plant among us a special spirit whose job it is to remind mankind what he could be....our potential...and what we are....Thank you, George for being that particular gift during my lifetime. From the early 70s on, I learned more from you than any college degree could have possibly proscribed.

    Sometimes I forget that, for most of Carlin's career, he wasn't a 24/7 acerbic firebrand. This is actually really refreshing to watch.

    Yesterday and today my life has been causing me to say, "I thought I had more time."
    George Carlin's work is an effective antidepressant for me. I just wish there was more of him on youtube- makes him accessible.

      A even better version of this routine is in his HBO special where he's wearing a blue one-piece outfit...it also has an updated version of the famous 7 dirty word sketch.
      It's an absolute masterclass in construction and delivery.

    this maybe one of the best five minute segments of comedy of all time. Of all time? Well, human beings have been around for over 100,000 years.... so I might’ve jumped the gun there. Still waiting for the archaeologists to confirm once they analyze all the cave drawings, but as far as aurally recorded comedy, yes, i’m pretty confident in my statement. Then again, that’s what, like 100 years? That’s only 1% of 100,000. Hmm... I still say this is up there

  • @danevitch9196

    If he delivered this piece without being creative or funny, we would call him a philosopher. But because he made such a profound topic funny, we call him a comedian. Strange how that works.

    God dammit, so accurate! In Poland actually we have a term for a "day before yesterday". It is called, who could guess, "beforeyesterday" in transcription.
    Have a good time folks, whenever you are!

    In Danish we actually have words for the day before yesterday and the day after tomorrow. If one were to try to translate their literal meanings it would be something like "pre-yesterday" and "over-tomorrow".

    • @DreamingConcepts
      @DreamingConcepts 5 років тому

      same in Romanian, in english would sound something like t'otheryesterday ("t'other" being a shorthand for the-other-one) and thentomorrow ("then" being a shorthand for and-then-after)

    Can someone explain the tick and tock joke?

    • @DC_Prox
      @DC_Prox 2 роки тому +1

      There's not much more than the surface joke, this is an example of "absurdism" that he sometimes engaged it. A mechanical timepiece like a wristwatch goes "tick tock", and he's claiming that the tocks are killing us. Obviously there's no way to stop a timepiece from going "tick" and there's no way the tocks are harming us, it's all just silly.
      I think it feels like there should be more, because "tick" has a few different meanings, and "tocks" sounds like "talks", so you half-expect a pun, but try as I might I couldn't find one in there.
