  • A brand new 2019 Honda Grom with only 300 miles on it is having clutch issues so I take a look at it and end up replacing the clutch with a KOSO heavy duty clutch and clutch spring kit (tinyurl.com/y8epydq4). Support Photogromer by:

    Literally just done the same thing on my 2020 Monkey. Went off road (owned it just over a week now (400 miles on clock)) and slipped the clutch to stop it dying on me going up some proper steep hills. Had to take it real easy to get home as it was slipping in every gear with any kind of load on it. This morning just been for a ride and it feels solid again no slipping but I'm expecting what you showed in this video to be the case with my poor clutch. Lesson learnt, will be looking to upgrade the clutch components, thank god for the many grom / monkey videos and discussions out there - plenty of knowledge sharing including this video! Keep it up and much love from Australia!

    My family in thailand ride honda waves 110cc with centrifugal clutches, they last time i was there the grandfathers bike had like 90k kilomtres on it, and they barely do an oil change and they ride it true the fields in the farms everyday on bumpy roads, they are just smart and dont abuse it. Everything can break if you mis use it.

      I've got a Wave 125i, almost same as the Grom engine but also Semi Automatic. 58,000km still going strong.
      Only thing ever to break was the cable going to the speedo and the low beam switch burned up.

    I think, he might have adjusted the clutch lever such that it would hit the handlebar, and even if the clutch lever is depressed the clutch might slightly be enganged.

    When I release the clutch it only drops in gear at the very end of clutch lever release. I tried to adjust clutch cable to give it more slack so it grabs more but still same. Would that be a symptom of a burnt up clutch?
    My grom is brand new, got only 90 miles.

    I need some help. I think I lost my clutch today while down shifting to a stop. It simply lost the gears and doesn't move as if I have the clutch lever pulled. The shifter feels right. It still goes through the gears but I get nothing to the ground. Any comments or hints for good parts would be great.
    Thanks for the video.

      1 bad ombre you can burn up a clutch in 5 miles when you ain't operating it properly. It sounds like he was holding it half in and riding like it was an auto clutch to keep from stalling in sand; that is a big no no. Give it hell and let it spin.

    • @xaviermccloud4586

      @@thomasdigs This comment is over rated. Yes you can burn up a clutch in 5 minutes... Give a little, if you keep dripping from 4th to 2nd or 1st at 40mph or dumping the clutch into 1st or redlining very hard while hard shifting or skipping gears but this is VERY unusual.

    • @Photogromer
      @Photogromer  4 роки тому +1

      If it was directly after changing your oil, like you rode the bike and it didn't do it, I'd say change the oil unless you used Mobil 1 Motorcycle Oil 10/30 10/40 or Honda Red Cap oil they recommend in the manual. That's all I run in my bikes. However, it could be a clutch cable adjustment issue, if the clutch isn't fully disengaging when you pull in your lever it could make it feel harder to get up and down the gears. Try revving up the motor as you downshift aka Rev Matching. See if that helps.

    I have a 125cc pit bike, cheap one not worth paying to get it fixed I was going to fix it myself to save money. I don't want to pay more than I bought it for to fix it, when I bought it I never got to ride it much because the laws changed making them illegal. It was sitting in the shed with fuel and oil in it because I forgot about it, doesn't start anymore and it's had nothing but problems since I bought it from broken tubes and tires to faulty electric start and now it won't kickstart. I tried some trouble shooting the spark plug works but the bike won't start, in your opinion what do you think is wrong with the bike? is there anything I should check or do to get it started or do you think I should get rid of it? the bike isn't worth selling either I bought for $800 on ebay brand new in the box now i'd be looking at $200 to sell it for parts

    • @patrickdk77

      Almost always the issues is you need to tear down the carb, clean it, don't damage the jets (or replace the jets) and put it back together. It might take doing this 2 or 3 times, till you learn where all the tiny passages are and dont miss any when you clean it. Then it's just a matter of setting the air/fuel screw and idle. This will have to be done anytime you leave gas in the carb for more than a few weeks. I find it starts to act up after 3-4weeks when using 10-15% ethonal gas here.

    • @GrowingDownUnder
      @GrowingDownUnder 5 років тому

      @@patrickdk77 thanks i'll research it, the carb was replaced by a mechanic shortly before it stopped working, it did work when I got it back from the mechanic I don't know if it's the carb or another problem the carb was new. I'm wondering if I accidentally left the fuel switch or choke on

    The problem could be from cheap Chinese eBay clutch lever

    • @chuckbowen4334

      The cheap ones have a tendency to fail when you least expect. Also...if you had no play in the clutch cable.. that would has a adverse affect on clutch life.
      Stay away from cheap Chinese stuff.
