  • Building the Ultimate Clutch for your Honda Grom or Monkey. OEM Clutch plates will last longer and can be used in this build. I just had SMR's laying around which is why they were used. Still an awesome product. Cannot go wrong with either.

    I did the exact setup drilled and tapped the plate. I did run all 6 SMR springs at first, but I'm running 3 stock and 3 SMR now. Its nicer on the clutch cable and less fatigue on my hand.

    Nice, I literally just did this a week ago. Ended up buying a clutch plate already modded with the 6 bolts threaded since I don't have a drill press. I think MNNTHBX also has a lifter plate that allows for 6 bolts now, but I also got the chimera.

      I believe Drow Chimera and MNNTHBX are the big three who carry such.

    Like the video man! I'm doing a similar set up soon on my 15 grom. Have a new 6 bolt clutch basket drilled and tapped, 6 bolt plate, SMR %60 stiffer springs with SMR 6 disc clutch. Should be a strong set up by the end. I'm doing the high compression piston from DH motoring with TB cam and power Commander V for tuning. Been waiting for yoshimura to deliver my high mount titanium exhaust I ordered back in June.

    Can you share a pic of where you put the nickel to jam the clutch from spinning ?

    Hey man, i got this clutch pack for my grom and the clutch wont disengage. Ive taken it apart and back together multiple times and nothing. Found a few things wrong and corrected but im at the point where idk what it could be. I noticed your bearing on the lifter plate slipped right in, mine required a socket to tap in but on the original it flew, no tapping required. Is that normal and do you think that might be my proboem? Thanks

    Once the spring plate is installed, will the one washer inside the basket stay in place? Or can it still move out of its spot when slipping in the complete clutch basket?

    • @WickedGrom
      @WickedGrom  2 роки тому

      Yes, there is a small lip and usually there is oil residue that will kinda hold it.

    I did the same exact clutch mode u did. My question is does the center bearing in the lifter plate log-in flush or does it stick out 2mm? After adjusting the clutch cable & test riding. Everything works, except I can't get-it in neutral while the engine is running w/ stock shifter lever.

    • @WickedGrom
      @WickedGrom  2 роки тому

      It sticks out slightly. Rolling the bike back and forth makes it slightly easier to find N. Also you can Dremel the N slot on the star for it to sit more "locked in" vs rolling right over, It isn't shaped correctly for the roller to sit flush in it. If that makes any sense at all haha

    • @williamkazynski615
      @williamkazynski615 2 роки тому

      @@WickedGrom rolling back n forth does not work. I don't understand the N star. What about ditching the stock shift lever, put on a cnc billet hammerhead shift lever from MNNABOX.

    Any noticeable difference between the 5 and 6 disk? I have a 6 disk with 30% and it’s slipping bad with only 1300 miles, thought about going back to the 5 disk and 60%. I’ve tried adjusting cable to the best of my ability to no avail. Keep up the good work bro. Awesome vid! I’m also from NH, now residing in FL. 603 for life!

    • @WickedGrom
      @WickedGrom  Рік тому

      I prefer the OEM discs after running both. No need for 6th if your running 60%. If its slipping the adjustment is off somewhere. Did you soak the plates prior to installing? How do you survive in that heat, I couldnt survive ha

    • @13JSW
      @13JSW Рік тому

      @@WickedGrom yea I ended up adjusting it AGAIN and it’s great now, once the plates wear away I’ll go back to the 5 disk and 60% right now it’s 6 plate and 30%. The disks were soaked yes. It’s definitely warm AF 100 today, 105 the other day lol

      The shifter shaft rod on the bottom make sure the pin goes in between the 2 rods inside the case. If its not aligned that most likely is your problem.

    What is the problem being solved here? Unless you're implying the cover plate flexes without the extra 3 bolts (it isn't), the plates already have evenly distributed pressure and all you're doing is adding weight to the clutch assembly.

    • @WickedGrom
      @WickedGrom  2 роки тому +2

      Its been proven to help apply even pressure all across the plates and also less chance of breaking a post. Has been covered many times over the years by multiple well respected people in the community. As mentioned in the video its really a "Do while your in there" type of mod. As for weight being added, if you are that concerned over 3 bolts..well its probably best to stay stock then lol. I simply just made a video for those who want to do it themselves.

    • @MrSaturn7085
      @MrSaturn7085 2 роки тому +3

      @@WickedGrom Asking as an engineer that is already running a hydraulic setup on my Grom - how has it been 'proven'?.
      3 bolts at 120 deg vs. 6 bolts at 60 deg is equal pressure, no matter how you cut it. The weight of 3 bolts was something of a joke - the detrimental effect of the weight of 3 bolts here is probably a bigger deal than whatever benefit this is supposed to provide (meaning, both are minimal).

    • @Image-X
      @Image-X 2 роки тому

      @@MrSaturn7085 Strength is the benefit as well as MORE evenly dispersed load. You have six mounting posts now vs three and twice the strength.

    • @outon2s
      @outon2s 2 роки тому +1

      @@MrSaturn7085 No real benefit doing the 6 bolts. The pressure is the same on the plates. Just extra work for nothing really.
      It might help with with the whole braking a post thing idk. But I I've owned several Groms and know countless Grom stunt riders who wheelie.
      None can say this mod has kept there post from braking.
      Main way they brake is on a bad install.
      Still good stuff if you're board. But I'd say better to invest your time doing wheelies :)

    • @MrSaturn7085
      @MrSaturn7085 2 роки тому

      @@Image-X The load is already evenly distributed and the posts (or plate ears) only break when a side load is applied by someone removing/replacing the cover incorrectly. I can't wait for someone to come out with a set of studs for the clutch basket next, saying that it has 'been proven' to fix another non-issue.
