Welcome back! This community is graced again with your talents and kindness for sharing your musical soul to us mortals! You have been greatly missed and we’re all hoping your health is in good stead. Thank you again for your mentoring.
By far the most articulate and accurate guitar teacher on youtube. I've learned much from you Andy. You've taken me from campfire strummer to a higher place on my guitar journey. At 65 years of age I'm playing better than I ever have in large part to your tutoring. Thank you. Your life and love for teaching guitar is making a difference for so many out here. Praying for you and your continued health improvements. Gods best to you and yours. 🙏❤
"Good-time Charle's got the blues." Man, this song takes me back. It was one of my father's faves...he's been gone since '04...and I miss our conversations. Thanks for sharing this Classic.
I'd also forgotten about this song! Great tune, simple but powerful. Somehow it got lost amongst my memories of a million other great '70s songs. Man, music is like the universe- endless.
Thank you for posting. I remember my dad who was a country boy himself listening to this song on the radio of a j 10 pickup, grinning and singing along. That is a great memory as a kid. I'll have to try learning this song now. Music brings back such great memories. Bless ya for posting. Your the greatest.
He's back in black! And UA-cam is a better place, because of that! It's hard to say anything that hasn't been said already about your work Andy... I did not know this song, but I knew I was going to get something out of the tutorial, as usual. And am I ever glad I swung by the channel today. Beside the incredible accuracy of your transcriptions, whichever the level of the piece, you always seem to capture and push the Feel of the songs accross...so Yah: thank you, thank you and thank you.
Andy, there aren't proper words to thank you enough for what you continue to provide us on your channel. This is another great example of your ability to "nail" it every time. Many thanks.
What a wonderful guitarist and a kind person. How could one find a better teacher than this talented and patient teacher! His approach is efficacious as a teacher but has intangible qualities that are rare these days! God's Peace!
So grateful for this. My 21 year old son shared this song with me and here’s a tutorial from one of the best instructor out there! I learned Rain Song and several others from this Chanel - now here’s another great tutorial.
You probably wont see this but i felt the need to say; i could claim that i learned guitar by myself, or teacherless but in reality i think you personally are the man who taught me the most on guitar. Ive fr learned so much about music from this channel alone so... thank you for being a great teacher and i hope u start posting more agin. God bless
Excellent. I just discovered this site. I'm largely a jazz player but all the great music I've heard in my life (like this) also gets to my heart. Thanks!
This song projects such a powerful Sad Emotion, it can be felt from the beginning to the end, this is a rare fact. It is one super Song, Thanks to you Andy for showing us how it is performed, my guess is a lot of people were subconcially waiting for such a demonstration. Cheers to you.
@@lnhislmage You got me Wrong completely, I do love this song more than any other, believe me , I was simply talking about this huge emotional strike, this song projects, nothing negative about it.
Lovely to see you back! I hope you are alright and feeling better then ever! When I saw the UA-cam notification I thought it was a trick of my mind but you are really back! I'm so glad, thank you for this tutorial, lovely song. Kinda hoping you do more Greg Lake tutorial (because you have the sweetest way to play them) such a The Sage or maybe Watching Over You or Lend Yoir Love To Me Tonight!
nice to see you back on the tube again! I really missed your unique method of teaching which takes something that looks & sounds so complicated & breaks it down to simple basics, creating a gateway of sorts for players like myself to begin to work w/ the arrangement.....much appreciated :)
Andy, I've been watching your videos for several years and just donated to your website today! We share similar tastes in music and I enjoy every video. I've been playing for years and can usually figure songs out on my own but I appreciate the details you offer. I have owned many guitars over the years but recently bought a Taylor 314ce and want to learn some more songs from you. Thanks again and keep picking!
I was fortunate enough to hear some of this being recorded in Memphis at American Studio back in the early 70s. The musicians were the "Memphis Boys", including the great Reggie Young on guitar. The studio was in it's winding down days and it was like an analogy for all the great musicians leaving Memphis for Nashville and LA.
Thank you! One of my favorites from my younger years and having heard it last year I was inspired to once again pick up the guitar but this time I was determined to learn to play. I can strum this song but I can’t get in the licks that make the song what it is. I’ll be spending time to learn it. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I found your channel a while ago, working on your tutorials has really improved my playing (e.g., meeting the challenge of "Never Going Back Again" was a real turning point for me). So every once in a while I'd play around with the Goodtime Charlie melody but was not really satisfied - your tutorial clarified the arrangement - combining the recorded version with a live performance was a really cool idea - well done as usual
Very nice... When I met my wife, she played this song with me on evening, her showing me she new it. She has a different way of picking it out, but hey, she learned it 30 some years ago and it's her recollection of it. Thanks for doing this. Though I am afraid to show her she isn't correct in a couple of things. LOL... I'll pick this up and play it and see what she says. Hmmmm. Thanks for another amazing lesson. I'll be sending in another support amount to you as soon as I can.
Danny ‘O was originally from Spokane WA. Spokane was a logging and railroad town. The song was written because the area was going through hard times back in the’60’s. The song is about people leaving town and moving to California. The crazy thing is today Spokane and the surrounding areas are loaded with people from Southern California who sold their homes for cash and then bought homes in Eastern WA. Thanks for posting this song. I could never figure out the C fingering. One of my most favorite songs of all time. Hal Ketchum does a great version as well
Awesome song and amazing timing! I just started working on this one a couple weeks ago but wasn’t very inspired. This arrangement and tutorial was just what I was looking for! Thanks for all you do to keep us plugging away!
Dwight Yoakam recorded a cover of this song - great version . Not familiar with the original, I’ll have to check it out- but a great progression, nonetheless! Great lesson , Andy - hope all is bright n shiny in your world!
You have the absolute best ear for music and have always inspired me to keep reaching and thisvis one of my all time favorite bittersweet tunes.(Rosewood Bitters is another)
Great tutorial - many thanks for this! The reference to "Travis-pick" is a curious one - it's not possible to achieve the nuanced picking in this song if you only use your thumb and 1st finger (the way Merle Travis always played)
Man what a beautiful sounding guitar! And your playing is so crisp, clear and unmuddled. I Applaud You on Many Levels here. The Sound is to die for! Such a Great Song. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, playing and beautiful sound with us. I greatly miss the great guitarists of that era - JT's version of You've Got A Friend is my Request. So glad to see you perpetuating this kind of guitar virtuosity for the youngsters. GREAT STUFF! BTW Who are you?
A couple of suggestions for future episodes - maybe you like them? Spooky by Atlanta Rhythm Section Carnival by Natalie Merchant (Jennifer Turner on guitar)
Hey Bro: I have admired your skill and humility for several years now, and I have always learned something from you that served as a catalyst for the Muse. I have been playing for over 55 years, and about 20-25 of that was on the Pro Tours. I still have several Albums of Original Material (no, not under my YT name) and a Member of SOCAN. In other words, suffice to say that “I know that of which I speak”. I was a working Singer/Songwriter back when this came out, sang it 1000 times all over North America, but until checking out your work a few days ago…. I guess I never really heard it. Listening to it several times a day since, and yeah man… Really sweet piece. Love your rendition… Anything in Model Tuning (Stephen Stills/Al Stewart) up your sleeve? A friend of mine from Montreal taught me Nostradamus (Stewart) in Open D back in the early ‘70’s, but it’s been a long while since I’ve been able to catch it all… If you’re interested??? Merry Christmas from British Columbia, Canada. -36 C this morning… Thank you 🙏
hey dude !! Thanks again for your ACCURATE tutorials ... unlike many folks , you have and do take the time ,and have the skills to work things out properly .. big respect to you and gratitude . I was wondering if you could do "over the hill' by John Martyn ? or other of John's beautiful songs ?
Take it easy during your recovery brother. We want you around for a long time. Allow me to request "Soulshine" (w/solo) by Warren Haynes, when you are feeling up to it.
This is wild. I’ve been listening to this song over and over for the past few days. I kept telling myself I need to sit down and learn how to play it. And look at this video now lol. Interesting fact, the radio version lyrics say everybody’s moved to LA. But the album track just says moved away.

Man, this song takes me back. It was one of my father's faves...he's been gone since '04...and I miss our conversations. Thanks for sharing this Classic.
My Dad felt the same way, but he was never much for conversation, when he was even around.
We are so glad to see new lessons from you, Andy. We hope you are getting well. Thanks for your amazing tutorials, and for your time.

I really liked this song back in the days. The way you play and explain makes me love the song.

Thanks Claude such a killer tune. Break this one out around the campfire as the evening is wearing down. Beautiful powerful emotional .

You're back!!! We've all been wondering how you are and thinking about you. Wonderful tutorial, as always.
New subscriber! I'm glad Claude requested it too. I was 11 in 72 and I've always loved that song. Thanks for doing it.

You are truly a gifted player...and a very detailed teacher. Beautiful progression Thanx
Sounds really good as an instrumental. Retains the addictive melancholy of the original record.
More dude we've missed you.

You song choices to teach are so aligned with my tastes it’s almost scary.
Great to see new content from the best teacher online
Pretty piece. 1972 was a good year for many fine pieces 😊. Now shut up and play!
This has always been one of my favorite songs. Mr. O’Keefe is a forgotten master song writer.

Man, your a beast. Great tune. But there's something about the way you play it. Can't say enough.
Great, clear, concise lesson, I will repeat I am sure. Muchos Thanks amigo!

Welcome back! Looking forward to more.
I wasn’t aware of this great song. Will be worth the time to learn to play it.
Always love your tutorials! A nice simple song with some good sounding licks
first couple of bars sound a bit like wings song Let em in - but of course the other way around time wise. Thanks for the tabs - they are great

Reggie Young was on that track. Not sure if he was the acoustic player or if there is an electric part buried.
Great Andy thank you!
Hey, have you ever considered "Let there be music" by Orleans? Thank you!
No idea whom it is,but it's lovely, gotta a bit of a Simon & Garfunkel vibe to it,1 of my favourite picker's along with Lyndsey Buckingham
God, your guitar has awesome tone xx
