Removing the silencer ring from the compressor housing by drilling out the 3 pins holding the ring in. Before and after sound is little more then half way into the video.
I have a 2012 Cummins and had also removed my silencer ring. It does make the turbo louder BUT you might think twice before removing it. So I removed mine before I installed my mm3 tuner and sounded awesome. Have been running with tuner and no silencer ring for about 3500 miles. Would usually run 30hp tune or 60hp tune and it will boost around 27-28 lbs on 30hp and 30-31 lbs on 60hp tune. My personal experiences with removing it causes air cavitation as it goes into the compressor side because of the compressor wheel from the sleeve that the ring is attached to is removed. Long story short I reinstalled silencer ring and checked boost psi and found I gained 1.5-2lbs boost back. Not worth removing silencer ring in my opinion. I believe it my also cause premature wear on the turbo shaft bushing long term possibly causing internal failure.
That’s because it’s not a “silencer ring”, it’s an inducer that directs airflow. It’s a dumbass mod, if you can even call it that, to get a whistle with zero performance gains. Proper mods, tunes, and exhaust, and that turbo screams anyway.
I have a 2012 6.7 and I just did this last night and ran out of daylight and called it a night rather pissed off because I couldn’t get the housing to line up without stopping the turbines ability to spin freely. I got up this morning and found my mistake smh... you have to leave the strap that holds the housing together on the turbine and line it up that way. But now my turbo is loud AF!!! So thanx again
Thanks for a Very nice video. I have a 2016 ram 2500 cummins crew cab, with dpf def and egr delete with a 5" straight pipe and custom tune. Money well spent. I removed all this before I hit 1000 miles now have 9600 miles pulling trailers from 7000 to 10000 lbs I am still getting 17 to 17.5 mph. Unloaded I get 24 mpg. And I have very noticeable power gain. Do you know if my silencer ring is the same. I've heard that the 2016 has a new kind of turbo which works on demand now. Still learning more about this set up.
Alex aj without a trailer keeping my foot out of it I have gotten 26.4 on a 700 mile trip. It's hard to do as my foot really want to just smash the throttle but that was taking it very easy on the throttle and getting up to speed like a big rig would.
Ottis the Capacitator dont do it. The 6.7 cummins turbos aren’t designed to have a removable ring. You lose boost and it causes wear and tear over time
Did you mean that they can be driven out with punch ? You sound like you've done this modification . Would you say it's worth my time doing this on a 2017 Cummins ? Thanks for your information !
Def wanna leave that in. When you remove it there is no longer a smooth path into the turbo, there is that flange, that is going to cause massive amounts of turbulence, cause too much negative pressure in front of the compressor vanes
It’s somewhat of a debate, guys say they go years with out the silencers and no issues but there is always the argument that “it was put there for a reason”
Power gains? No. If anything and it might not be noticeable to you but you'll lose power and efficiency. Fuel mileage will suffer and your turbo will wear out quicker. But other than that you'll get a bit of turbo whistle so that's worth it right?
That is not a silencer ring! Just put a intake cone air filter!!!! Remove that big ass air filter box and you will hear the difference!! I did it on my 09 cummins!!

U should make a video brother .
Boy thanks u save me work lol

Does this make your turbo Surge to much ?!

Frank Olbrot how many miles per gallon without any trailer I'm thinking about doing the delete on my

I have a 17 model g56 truck amd the turbo will show 0 psi at 1800 rpm if cruising but if you roll on the throttle it shows the psi rising
You must live real close to me. I recognize those roads. Just picked up a 2017, but I think I'm gonna wait a while before I do this to mine.

What bolts did you undo for just the housing to come off?
Fun fact just for information you can beat the pins in using a punch it's a lot less mess to clean up as far as metal shavings and works great

what exhaust are you running..? truck sounds good
4" turbo back, no muffler and 5" tip
2nd Gen swap on it?
Kade Hurda Nope
Took mine out also about a month or two ago. Sounds great!
Has it cause any issues after 5 years?
@@zaneelliott7538 no ways this could damage your engine or turbo. It’s only that. A silencer ring
@@nolman38 bet
@@zaneelliott7538 just a pain due to having to drill out the pins but besides that it’s easy
Wow, what a difference. Nice.

Makes no difference on a turbo engine gas or diesel.
Aluminum dowels?
Damn I just got an 08 and you cant hear the turbo at all.. :/ looks like i know what im gonna be doing!
any problems now?
It's not a silencer ring on the 6.7. It's an inducer
A stage two turbo sounds like that with windows up and dose this do wear and tear on your turbo
It’s somewhat of a debate, guys say they go years with out the silencers and no issues but there is always the argument that “it was put there for a reason”
amazing sound. 6,7L is four time the average size of a french diesel engine.....wish I could live in the us....
Its also designed to move significantly more weight. I wish we had many of the small diesels that are available outside the US.
The grass is always greener
Any problem afterwards?
Dave 333 Just a constant loud whistle coming from under the hood. Might be coming from the turbo....
Will that work on a 2019?
Stay tuned on my channel I’m going to post a video this week of figuring it out on my 2022 3500
wish someone would do a drive by video ;)
I'll see what I can do!
pretty sure my dad stuck a grinder to the silencer to take it off his 6.7 😂
is this with the stock intake?
afe intake
Mike Daley I have a 2014 Dodge Ram diesel took the silencer ring off and that's what it sounds like with the stock intake
Alex aj would it sound like that even if I have all the emission control stuff on it?
Alex aj Did you have the pins holding the silencer ring in or the large c-clip? I have a 2014 also.
Do you feel any power gains with your ass-dyno? The silencer ring looks constrictive.
No change in power from what I can tell.

@@CHILLHP Yeah another reason to 2nd gen swap. Been running it without a ring for 130k miles with no problems
@@TonyfromAB Does it sound good with the ring removed? What intake do you have?

Dam sounds good man!
Lmao that has created more static pressure on the turbine you just fucked your ride up. Bet you lost mad air density
