I searched High and Low here on UA-cam and could not find a video on the best recommendation on removing the turbo silencer but also how to get out the turbo housing to do so. I hope this video helps you in the long run and will state I AM SO GLAD I DID THIS.
Removing the Silencer Ring has allow my turbo to whistle like crazy "which I Love" but has also allowed my diesel to work and sound like it supposed to be. The nice thing is for the diesels out there that are not deleted and you want to free up some airflow "AND" add let your turbo stand out then definitely get this done.
All in all took me about 3 hours to remove the necessary parts to get to the housing, drill out the 3 pins, and then put everything back together again. Only a few simple tools such as sockets and wrenches will get the job done.
NOTE removing the wheel well/rock gaurd will allow more light in the areas needed to work on plus will free up space to get the boost tube boot sleeve on vs. doing it up top on the engine side.
You should have searched high and low on the numerous forums out there about this. You would have learned that this isn't a "silencer ring" and you shouldn't remove it. The "whistle" you now hear is from increased turbulence because the thing that helped air flow more efficiently into your turbo is now gone. If you want your 6.7 Cummins to sound like a "real diesel", you're going to have to remove the EGR/Cooler, manifold, VGT and throw on a 2nd gen style manifold, fixed vane turbo, and a straight pipe.
Thanks man, was just about to do this
Do you just comment on ever video with a 6.7 cummins ring remove?
@@ZayneMcDonald No, just the ones that come up on my recommendations. But if I could, I would leave this comment on _every_ "silencer" ring removal video.
Just delete if you want the spool sound
Crazy. Wonder why they put them in 5.9s just to reduce noise. When any other 5.9 cummins application didn't have it. Now it helps with turbulence? Of course it does if you know anything about aerodynamics.
I did this a 2 years ago. Now I’m replacing my turbo. Just a heads up
Lol. Added turbulence into the intake. Got some sound, lost power and mileage.
The engineers that designed that turbo did not put that in there for sound reduction. I can assure you it improves the aerodynamic flow of air into the turbo. Oh well less power but it sounds good. You know what else helps airflow? Full delete!
All the people saying turbo is "ruined" does a vacuum cleaner care what shape is on end if it is the same opening size? That turbo is making boost regardless of that ring or not. That turbulence definitely ain't stopping it from making boost. Just like the waterfall ain't changing depending on the whirlpool on top of the dam being there or not.
Does a vacuum cleaner spool at over 100k RPM's? Does heat up to 800 degrees causing bearings to stress?
@dennisprow7576 Show me all the custom made silencer rings that teams use that invest thousands of dollars and hours dyno tuning and competing if it was needed.
The video doesn’t do it justice, I’ve put over 200k on my turbo since I “ruined” it in 2008
That is not a silencer ring!
Just put a intake cone air filter!!!!
Remove that big ass air filter box and you will hear the difference!! I did it on my
09 cummins!!
Wow. Shoulda researched a little harder on this “mod” lol
This is a bad mod. That ring helps air flow into your turbo easier. The whistle you are hearing is vortexes inside your turbo that is restricted air around the intake on the turbo. If you want a louder truck delete it, straight pipe it, and get a tune done on it. DO NOT RUIN YOUR TRUCK WITH THIS MOD!
Not that I care to even take mine out I got plenty of noise deleted and exhaust with a cold air intake but this will not ruin your turbo or any other accusations these guys are saying😂🤦🏼♂️ only YOU ruin your turbo by beating the hell out of your truck tryna hear the turbo at every light 😂
@@Tonka_6.7 Well said Tonka_6.7!! I appreciate the reply, this video is intended for free Mods, loosing up the air flow and hear the turbo. After all these are diesels and should be able to hear these beasts coming down like a Peterbuilt or Freightliner! Our Rams 6.7 come too restricted from factory to say the least.

You should delete that ccv hose so that oil don’t back in your turbo.

My 13 3500 longhorn with everything deleted and straight piped sounds louder then that one 😂😂😂. Don’t do what he did lol
Wow!!!!!!
LoL…….yes….do it!!
Still sounds like a grandma car. Just delete it and straight pipe it like a real American.
What makes a true American is being humble and graceful. You will never know what it took for the other person on the video you are watching to get what and where they are. Learning how to lean on your brother or sister in Christ is also American. You may want to review what a real American is and try being humble with grace.
That's not a silencer..... That guides the air into the center of the turbo and reduces turbulence. Your bearings are gonna wear out. Don't do this if you have any common sense.

I removed that ring on my 3rd gen. 100k miles like that, and still no shaft play.
@@keilmillerjr9701 Thanks for watching and your experience. I too have at least 20,000 miles and not one single issue. If people viewed other turbo makers they’ll notice that there’s really no other obstruction to help air move into the turbo. Yes, if I did a wind test I could agree that the cap on this Holset would or could help air flow in. It’s simple aerodynamics. That my 2 cents.

Absolutely do not I repeat do not do this you will cut the life of your turbo in half if not more!
Well, not sure about that. Mine has been out since new and I now have 500,000 miles on original motor and turbo. Don't post it if you're not sure you're right.
@@benjamenjennett6482 I know I'm right. Every person I have ever talked to has said the same that has done it or seen someone do it. It's stupid to do and pointless makes the air extremely turbulent going into the turbo which is also stupid. You are either full of shit have an older truck or extremely lucky
@@benjamenjennett6482 plus if you want to make your turbo loud and improve milage do it correctly and get an intake
Yup don't do it you'll trip your CVV code and you can't fix it
I’ve tons of miles on it and pull my 40’ trailer and not a single problem. May be a hit or miss not sure on that other than I’m glad I did the mod and no issues thus far. Thanks for watching.
@@OperationRV mine is also a 21 5th gen
And the cvv hose gose straight in to the tubo not into the air box like all the other
Guy doesn’t know anything 😂
This everyone is why you don't buy used trucks
