- A cover of Gary Numan's "I Dream of Wires" by Tim Eilers. From the album Telekon recorded in 1980. I must have listened to this album a couple hundred times. If I had to pick a favorite Numan song, this would be it. Finished Sept. 10, 2010 in Northridge, Ca. Set to clips from the Steven Spielberg movie "AI Artificial Intelligence".
Been following Gary Numan since 1978, yes I know that makes me old but I still class him as my hero. This track was my favourite from the Telekon album as well, I played it constantly. This version is OUTSTANDING....Excellent work

There is before Gary and after Gary... For those of us who get it, we can listen over and over to this music throughout our lives, it never ever gets old, it is ALWAYS fresh, new and exciting. It provides the soundtrack to our lives and speaks to us with different voices at different times depending on what we need. The sound activates us, makes us sad, makes us vibrate and gives us pleasure. You cannot explain it to someone who has not been exposed (infected?). Unless you have spent hours on a Saturday night alone in front of a mirror in your parents basement with the lights off and a flashlight for a microphone screaming "Death Death Death Until The Sun Cries Morning", there is no need to go any further...
Extremely well said Stephen! It is an infection, a glorious one. I still am moved much more by the ice-cold synth riffs of his early work but because of that gift he will always have my support. Damn. This a bit different to listening to Telekon in a car in the pouring rain on holiday in Torquay in 1980.
I usually hate Numan covers and most get them wrong, but this is brilliant.

I normally hate covers, but, this is a rare case in which Numan was done justice.
When I bought Telekon I probably played I.D.O.W. about the same number of times as this video has been viewed. Loved it. I also think this cover is brilliant!!

To be fair,the quality of the tapes were poor.Not until I,Assassin when the chrome came out did the last and sound better.

Man. I have never heard this particular song before. I thought it was the original, not a cover. Then I read the description. Hell of a cover. I don't know if I want to hear the original, ever. Beautiful.
Its like 1980 all new again sitting in my blue neon light lit room listening to TELEKON as it washed over my mind in a sparkling cascade awakening..creating a new id within.

Hey Tim, I want to say thank you for the absolutely beautiful covers of Numan's work. I've been subscribed and listening to you for about 10 years now (crazy how time flies) and your covers still hold some kind of magic to them I've never been able to put into words. I remember spending many nights on the metro on the way back home listening to your music to keep me entertained. Many nights out in the city listening to your music to keep me company. I even used to use your music to help me fall asleep at night. When I discovered Gary Numan I was instantly hooked and spent several years listening to his music frequently. When I discovered your covers, I often found myself torn on who's renditions I liked more. Your covers are incredible and I hope you've had a good life all these years. Thank you.

Tim, this is absolutely incredible! It Literally ripped at my soul! The video imagery combined with your almost naked vocal tone sold it! Love that CR78 and the drums you chose. The subtle syncopated groove in the bass line towards the end gave me goose bumps! The Video! Holy crap! What is this? You and Dave are freakin me out! Bravo!

Brilliant cover and you are a genius for putting this song with clips of the film AI. The whistling at the end as with the synth just completely works on a haunting level with the film. If I ever get to be a a big director, I'm going to make a robot film similar to this with "I dream of wires" resonating through the story

I take back what I said. This whole thing is totally awesome. I listen to it a few times a day. It's true the very first part of the vocals is a bit too soft-spoken, but otherwise it's awesome, WAY better than the original (which was already great).
