  • Took the 2.5 NC out to Chuckwalla Valley Speedway to shake down the car and see if the car improved after the new aero from Racebred splitter and rear wing were added. Was able to P.B. at 1:59.60. By the data, that's down 3.26 seconds from the last outing

You are correct in wanting a little oversteer to be faster so you can get what they call slip angle! You might get some from stiffening the front sway bar up a notch if you haven't already tried that (since the video is 10 months old)

Glad the car is back up and running well. Congrats on the PB. Aero will be one of my next major mods so this video was great insight.🏁🏁🏁

How far back does the splitter go? Racebred's website makes it look like just a blade, which might be why you're getting understeer. Not enough front aero to match the wing.

Hey Mitchel, first of all I'm a huge fan of your build, love the humble not too crazy expensive but practical set up situation that you've got going on 👍🏼 and that wing is 🔥
I'd like to ask you about a few things giving that I have my own 2.5 swapped NC.
How much weight did you save with the weight reduction and more importantly how much of a difference did it make?
I have a 1.6inch header, do you recommend the 1.8, like do you feel like that's worth the money 🤷🏻‍♂️?
Was your car originally hardtop or soft top and how much weight do you reckon you saved by switching to what you have now?

Thank you for the support. Greatly appreciated!
So I have had the car weighed with and without me in it. Without me in it, (before the wing and splitter so add maybe 25 pounds?) was 2323lbs. With me in it (im FAT) was 2600. I guess I do not know how much of a difference it made as before I even hit my first track day, the carpets, plastics (still have door panels) and soft top were removed so I never tracked the car in full weight.
I would def go to the bigger header, there has been gains even on a stock engine 2.5 without cams or intake. I believe its worth the money.
Car was originally soft top, when I purchased, the soft top was removed and the hardtop you see today on the channel is what was on it. The soft top mechanism is pretty heavy, much heavier than an aftermarket hard top. Maybe by 30 pounds?

Nice! Were able to dial out the oversteer? If so, how? Thx.

Technically with the rear wing and front splitter and my current sway bar settings, I didnt have any oversteer. So that technically dialed it out. I am now wanting to add some oversteer with the current setup.

I can tell the car is more stable because you are not having to correct with the steering as much as your other videos.
Does your data tell you if you lost any mph at the end of straights?
I don't have Aero experience so can't advise. But if my car was pushing out where it was I would run with more rake or stiffer rear bar or softer front bar.

    • @MitchelYardley

Data doesn’t show any loss of mph at least on that track. I have data from other tracks that I will compare when I finally go to them with the aero but with zero AOA I don’t think I’ll loose any dramatic MPH. And yes I will need to mess with the sway bars to try to get some more rotation in the car

When you remove the rear sway bar doesn't that give you the understeer? I did the same thing and went back with a stock rear bar and it improved turn-in.

I have only removed the rear sway bar once, and that was when I was running the front splitter and no rear wing. It 100% made the car not twitchy/not oversteer much. I didn't notice any understeer with that setup.
